TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

Does London Bridge still exist?

How did they move the bridge to Arizona?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

What is the "lion's share"?

Most people assume that the "lion's share" is the biggest
share. In fact, the "lion's share" is EVERYTHING. The phrase
comes from a fable by Aesop. I've reprinted it below:

THE LION'S SHARE
The Lion went hunting with the Fox, the Jackal, and the Wolf.
They hunted and they hunted till at last they surprised a Stag,
and soon took its life. Then came the question how the spoil
should be divided. "Quarter me this Stag," roared the Lion; so
the other animals skinned it and cut it into four parts. Then the
Lion took his stand in front of the carcass and pronounced
judgment: The first quarter is for me in my capacity as King of
Beasts; the second is mine as arbiter; another share comes to
me for my part in the chase; and as for the fourth quarter, well,
as for that, I should like to see which of you will dare to lay a
paw upon it."

"Humph," grumbled the Fox as he walked away with his tail
between his legs; but he spoke in a low growl.

MORAL: "You may share the labours of the great, but you will
not share the spoil."

Did the famous London Bridge really fall down?

Remember the children's rhyme about London Bridge falling
down? Well, actually, the bridge was PULLED down. Back in 1014,
when the Danes controlled London, their enemies the Saxons
and the Norwegians rowed out to the wooden bridge, tied ropes
around its pilings, and took off. The bridge was built again, of
course. This time it was made of stone. London Bridge actually
went through several incarnations. It was London's oldest bridge,
first built by the Romans in 43 AD as a temporary pontoon bridge.

My How We Busy Ourselves
With Unimportant Things!
by Ken Darby

Do you know what would have happened if it had been
three Wise Women instead of three Wise Men? They
would have asked directions, arrived on time, helped
deliver the baby, cleaned the stable, made a casserole,
and brought practical gifts.

Yeah, and do you know what they said when they left?
"Did you see the sandals Mary was wearing with that gown?"
"That baby doesn't look anything like Joseph!"
"Can you believe that they let all of those disgusting
animals in the house?"
"I heard that Joseph isn't even working right now!"
"And that donkey that they are riding has seen better days too!"
"Want to bet on how long it will take until you get your casserole
dish back?"

This is just a joke and the biblical story is just a story. Again,
though, it points out a human trait that cripples many.

We get ourselves involved in talking this way about others.
It is a judgment talk and ultimately has the power to cut the
legs out from underneath us. We have no business
interfering with or trying to tell others how to live their lives.

That includes your own children, who, by the time they leave
the nest, are well able to live their own lives, whether you
like it or not.

It might be worth your while to consider your own personal
need to be independent, and insist on your right to live the
way you decide.

That right belongs to everyone else on this planet. If you
insist on that right yourself, you ought to be aware that what
is fair for the goose, is also fair for the gander.

Many parents just don't want to let go. They continue well
past the time it is necessary, to tell their offspring what to do.
If you make that mistake it will come back to haunt you.

Learn to be quiet. They are bound to do things you did
not do. They must do things you did not do. Moreover, if
you want to worry about them, then worry if they don't do
things you did not do.

The world is changing. You raised your kids to be better
than you. Let go and let them.

As to the lives of others, you should be aware that folks
make decision for their own reasons. Many of those reasons
you will never know. It it literally impossible for you to know
what another's reasons are and therefore you are not in a
position to judge whether those are good or bad reasons.

It is not your life anyway. Why would you want to talk about
someone like the joke suggests? It is your job to help others
as we travel together on this spaceship earth.

In truth, how important is it anyway? If someone, everyone,
lived their lives the way you want what good would that do
you, give you a false sense of pride? Live your own life and
let others be.

My How We Busy Ourselves With Unimportant Things!

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -

I Wish Doctors Had More Time to Listen.
Then You Wouldn't Be Looking For Your
Own Solutions On The Internet. (How To
Use The Internet Knowledge And Still Keep
Your Doctor!)
PART 8 of 10

I had an email from a gal who stopped at the side of
a road to watch a small plane do that she thought was
doing acrobatics. To her horror and her health, she
discovered the plane was crop dusting a very large
area of farmland! And she was in the direct line of
the plane's spraying path! Ten days later, she is in
hospital in a coma. She is severely disabled. Can
someone easily connect the incidences? It's tough.
So how can you use your Internet searches to "help"
your doctor? After all it is your health and you have
chosen to participate actively in your wellbeing.
I would suggest you read all you can about your
particular problem. Get at least three and hopefully
more, articles from recognized authorities. Read
what suggestions they make if you like the information.
DON'T do anything yet! Just read and think. Gather
information and confidence in the subject. Digest
this information. Do you agree with it? Disagree? Do
you feel you can trust the writer? If you like a certain
train of thought, ask questions of the writer. Don't
accept anything just because someone wrote it. I am
sure you know that on the Internet, anyone can link
to a very credible site and hope that credibility rubs off.
Now that you have learned a lot about your condition,
plan your next doctor's visit carefully. DO NOT take
your research with you!!!! (MY husband proudly
presented his doctor with several thick packets of
Internet research . . . and was told not to come
back . . . And if his doctor heard of any cure for his
condition, he would be the first to hear it.! The irony
is that he indeed found the solution to his problem via
an email from the Internet!

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.

Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.

The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.

The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------

They slept for only a short while before it was feeding time
again. Eloise rose and brought the child to bed with her,
feeding her.

Mazunta was studying her and the child. "How often must a
Mother do this?" he asked.

"For the first while, Maz, she will want to be fed about every
four hours. Later, in a couple months, I hope, she will settle
down a little and will not need feeding in the night, then, if this
goes like the rest of the village women, I will wean her between
six months and eight months, and we will begin feeding her
the mush that the village Mothers give their children."

"I like a Mother feeding her own child at her breast. I always
have. It has always impressed me that the child is getting the
very best food it could ever get."

"That's right Maz, but it can't go on forever, for both the child's
sake and the Mother's. They slept.

Far away in Matto Grosso, Romao and Oomano were caught
by her Mother in a deep and longing kiss. These two were
going to be married soon and it was plain they couldn't keep
their hands off one another. They even hated to part at night
when Romano had to go home.

Both lived by higher law and they were deeply in love.

"Come on in for supper you two. There will be plenty of time for
that kind of stuff." Abetta laughed, as she remembered how she
and Miguele had been at that age. They couldn't get enough
of one another either.

The couple went in the house for supper.

The kids had all beaten them to the table and, like kids,
were in there eating like they were having their last meal.

This is the part of the day Abetta enjoyed the most. Few of
the children said thanks before they began supper, but their
eating sure sent a message. It told Abetta they liked her
cooking and it made her feel as if she was getting some good
food into them. The kids were taught to be polite and every
one of them put away their dirty dishes and thanked Abetta
for supper.

"I caught these two outside smooching. What do you think of
that?" said Abetta, to the youngsters.

"OOOOOOOOOOOO" went up the chorus, as the kids teased
Oomano and Romano.

Romano made a sham move as if he was going to clip one
of the kids head. He ducked.

They all laughed and were away, outside again, for a
game of ball.

"I don't know where these two are going to get married Mother.
There is no one going to the churches any more. I delivered
a parcel to the big church, the one with the two conspiring
fathers that had Riata shot? There was no one there. I had
to knock on the door for ten minutes before the father
himself came. I don't know where all the other priests have
gone. This one didn't look too good. In fact I think he was
drunk." said Miguele.

"They can get married at the shrine, Papa." said Riata, "I'm
sure we can find a judge, or someone who will make it legal.
It seems man's laws require some sort of record keeping. Or
maybe they can get married in that office downtown that
issues marriage licenses."

"Oh!" pouted Oomano. "I had hoped for something better
than that."

"Ah! So be it. Every young girls dream! We'll work out
something that will be the finest wedding this city ever had.
Don't worry Oomano." said her Father, Miguele, "Have you
given consideration to who you want to ask to your wedding?"

"Papa, I would like to ask Eloise and all the folks she had at
her wedding. Maybe not all the folks, but remember Sonora
and her folks, Eloise, Mazunta, David and Pam, and David's
Mother. Mr. and Mrs Henry, and even their friends. They are
all such nice people and they enjoyed themselves so much.
Can we do that. You know you don't need to worry about
the money, Riata, Romano and I will look after everything
we want." asked Oomano.

"My sweet little girl. You can have anything you want without
my permission. I know that, and I appreciate you asking, so
your Mother and I are kept informed. Anything you want
sweetest." answered Miguele.

"I tell you what, Oomano, why not have it at the orphanage.
The kids would like very much to help out, and they would
like to be at the wedding, I am sure. Is that okay?" asked Riata.

It is nice to have Christmas and Boxing Day fall on a Thursday

our time off and enjoyment of the season. Yet, if you publish
a daily newsletter, things must go on.

I have once more jumped into planning and preparing for
