The Grimm fairy tales are full of infanticide, murder, mutilation,
cannibalism, and incest. But that's no reason not to read them.
They're also rich with heroism and adventure and generally
end with the bad guys getting their just desserts.
Is it true that the yo-yo was based on a weapon?
Yes. American Donald Duncan conceived of the toy after
watching a Philippine yo-yo in action. The Philippine yo-yo
was made of large wood disks and twine and was used to
hunt animals. The hunter would hurl it at his prey and the twine
would catch the animal by its legs and throw it to the ground.
The name "yo-yo," in fact, was a word from Tagalog, an
Indonesian language used in the Philippines. Duncan made
HIS yo-yo smaller, but kept the name. Duncan's yo-yo wasn't
really the first yo-yo toy, though. Kids in China played with
similar toys as far back as 1,000 BC.

A NEW YEAR, A NEW BEGINNING

Do you know what you like? Do you know what is right for you?
Brian Tracy says that it is important to know what is right for
yourself before you think of what is possible. Do you know what
brings you joy? If you do know, how often do these things show
up in your life? Do you plan for them?
It is interesting--and powerful--to focus your attention on what
you want in life...experiences you wish to repeat, attributes
you wish to develop, goals you wish to reach and, fulfilling
ways to spend your time and energy. When you keep your mind,
time and energy on these things, there is little time for
anything else--and the "anything else" fades away!
At this time of year it is traditional to decide on next year's
priorities. Do this very carefully. Make it a balanced plan with
desires in each area of your life to move your physical, social,
educational, financial, mental, emotional and spiritual self,
forward. Once you have decided on the priorities, assign a
daily, weekly, monthly or annual amount of time for each that
will satisfy you. This is important. There is no right answer.
What will cause you to feel good about yourself when you do it?
It can be different for different people. Some folks want to run
a marathon and that is what they mean when they are planning to
improve their exercise program. That will take more time than
for a person who wants to increase their time doing
weight-bearing exercise to prevent osteoporosis. Know what
your goal is and why. That will help you assign the appropriate
amount of time to each priority.
Make sure that your goals are "do-able". Build in success this
way. Make them very specific, measurable and time-bounded. Your
mind can capture a goal that says, "I will lose ten pounds by
March 1 by eliminating ice-cream from my diet and walking three
miles three times a week", whereas it has difficulty
understanding "I am eating less and exercising more." Be
specific.
Often, there are many things undone in our lives. Things we wish
we had done, things we know are always sitting at the back of
our minds draining our energy. These are ‘energy leaks’. You
know the “(Expletive) I still haven’t ___________yet!” that hits
you while you’re waiting for a red light to change. It’s a ‘leak’!
Here is a process that I find amazingly effective. Complete this

Excel
Excel contains a category of number formats called Special.
The Special category contains the following four number formats.
Zip Code: Retains any leading zeros in the value
(important for zip codes and of absolutely no
importance in arithmetic computations). Example: 00456.
Zip Code + 4: Automatically separates the last four
digits from the first five digits and retains any
leading zeros. Example: 00178-7777.
Phone Number: Automatically encloses the first three
digits of the number in parentheses and separates the
last four digits from the previous three with a dash.
Example: (701) 777-3434.
Social Security Number: Automatically puts dashes in
the value to separate its digits into groups of three,
two, and four. Example: 777-00-8888.
When creating databases these Special number formats
will come in handy.

In A Terminal Illness, Everyone

In discussing this overall situation with my friend, it was
clear how strong and binding emotions can cripple clear
thinking. And yet, isn't the emotion of love the very glue
that holds families together in times like these? There
needs to be a third party looking out for all the players:
not just the patient, in this case, the dad. It needs a person
who isn't afraid to step forward to fulfil the physical and
maybe psychological needs as well. Lets' s look at each
player in this dilemma: 1) my friend a daughter,
2) the mother, 3) the dad, 4) the other daughter,
5) a cousin, and ,of course 6) the dad. Let's do the
dad first . . . The dad slips in and out of consciousness
all day long. When he is conscious, he can carry on a
short, lucid conversation. He is wearing "incontinent
underwear but really dislikes it. So when he is aware
of his surroundings the mother gets him to stand up
and together they go to the bathroom. . . a very difficult
thing for them both. He has a feeding tube, so meals
aren't much of an issue except these must be ready
at certain times. And that again, is the mother's
responsibility. When he is unconscious, he must be
turned frequently to prevent skin breakdown . . . , which
could lead to infection. And cream must be rubbed on
any pressure points. Then he needs his incontinence
pads in place, as he isn't able to go to the bathroom. So
the dad's physical needs are related to good nursing
care and lots of love. And kindness. His psychological
needs are apparent in his periods of consciousness.
Emotionally he needs a very quiet, safe, loving, and
responsive environment.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"They are, but Riata says the kids will get that under control
for long enough for us to have our wedding, then we will
leave and have a reception kind of thing over at Mom and
Dad's. Their yard is big enough to put up fifty tents, so we
might have to manifest them, so folks can stay for two or
three days." Oomano was doing some of her thinking
out loud.
"Well, I'm looking forward to coming, and I am very happy
for you. I am especially glad you found a partner who lives
by higher law. Your life will be long and wonderful. Your
wedding plans sound terrific. Just let Maz and I know how
we can be of help." said Eloise.
"I think we have it under control, but thanks." answered
Oomano.
Down on the beach the two men were sitting, watching
the river, the beautiful day, and the kids having their ball
game. They had all come over to ask Romano to play with
them as he had the last time he visited, but he declined.
"This is a big step for you, my boy. Are you ready?" asked
Maz.
"To tell you the truth, I don't know if I'm ready. All I know is
I love her so much I can't be away from her. It isn't the sex
thing either. It is beyond that. It is like we were soul mates.
It is like we are somehow attached inside. We have abstained
from sex, wanting to keep it for our marriage. It's tough."
answered Romano.
"Sure is. We went through that too. Believe me it is more
than worth the wait. You will both be glad you waited. And
I would say you're ready. The secret isn't that you are
prepared, like some magic road map. The secret is as you
just told me, being, somehow, soul mates. When the
relationship is one where there are no doubts, you will get
through anything. That you both live by higher law will also
keep you in love forever. I'm glad you decided to marry
Oomano. Bueno and I will be glad to come to your wedding.
We will also be happy to help if you need us." said Mazunta.
"Well, actually, I will need your help. I don't think my family
will be there. I don't think it will be good for them to be there.
They will not only not fit in but they will be hitting everyone
up for loans, money or anything they think they can get. You
know where I came from. So, I want you to be my best man.
Will you do that for me?" asked Romano.
"You bet I'll do it. Bueno and I will be there a day or so early
so you can direct me in what I have to do. Here we don't
have things like best men, so I am not altogether sure I know
what you are talking about, but I will do anything for
you." said Mazunta.
"It isn't a tough job. It is a custom we have where you will
stand at the front with me. You will keep the wedding ring
with you and when the Justice Of The Peace asks for it you
will give it to him or her. Then, of course, you look after me.
If I faint from the pressure you pick me up." Romano laughed.
Mazunta laughed too. "Don't worry, things will go just fine.
I'll bet, though, the shrine will be busy that day."
"It will but the kids will look after it. We'll just have lots of
people at our wedding, that's all." replied Romano.
"I am amazed at the law sometimes, even though I know
and understand it well. I see the people leaving the
churches in your city and I think the churches will soon
have no money to support them. They will become empty
symbols of all the wrong the church has done over the
years. The terrible thing, as I see it, is that the church as
a whole will not learn the lesson. Who can blame the
people. Even if I did not live by higher law I would not
under any circumstances follow a church that did not
practice the principles it teaches or the laws of the land
in which it operates. The church has violated the trust of
the people up in the United States too. If I were there I
would stop attending. If they do not practice what they
preach then the entire system is phony." said Mazunta.
"I have heard of this problem in the States. What are
they doing about it?" asked Romano.
"The same thing the church has always done about it.
They have swept it under the rug and hope the people
will forget about it. Even if the people do the law will
cause the church to reap what it has sown. I feel sorry
for those who follow an empty religion that does not,
itself, believe in doing what is right according to it's
laws or the laws of the land, for they, too, shall
suffer." said Mazunta.
"Maz, how is it you came to live by higher
law?" asked Romano.
