TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

Why are we more likely to snore as we grow older?

What creature can still reproduce after two hundred years?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Do animals laugh?

Chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans make a panting
noise similar to laughter when they play. But there's little
evidence that other animals laugh. However, researchers
in Ohio believe that rats can laugh in a way that is
inaudible to humans. When tickled, the scientists claim,
the rats emitted a high-pitched, chirping whistle, outside
the range of human hearing. It also matters how you
define laughter. If a dog wags its tail in joy, is that a
puppy form of laughter.

Why can't we tickle ourselves?

Scientists think the reason we can't tickle ourselves is
that tickling relies in part on a surprise element. When
we're tickled, we have a kind of panic response to an
unexpected sensation. It's a natural defense that lets us
know when creepy critters, such as insects, might be on
us. But when we tickle OURSELVES, the cerebellum
part of the brain, which monitors our movements, is
AWARE that we're trying to tickle ourselves. It's not
fooled - the sensation is expected - and no panic
reaction occurs. Of course, if you ask me, that doesn't
explain why we respond when someone else tickles
us and we KNOW beforehand they are going to do so.
I guess the part of the brain that needs to know
doesn't quite get it?

Here's To Think On ...
by Ken Darby
-----------------

Be Careful What You Ask For!

Two priests died at the same time and met Saint Peter
at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter said, "I'd like to get you
guys in now, but our computer's down. You'll have to go
back to Earth for about a week, but you can't go back
as priests.

What'll it be?"

The first priest says, "I've always wanted to be an
eagle, soaring above the Rocky Mountains."

"So be it," says St. Peter, and off flies the first
priest.

The second priest mulls this over for a moment and
asks, "Will any of this week 'count', St. Peter?"

"No, I told you the computer's down. There's no way we
can keep track of what you're doing."

"In that case," says the second priest, "I've always
wanted to be a stud."

"So be it" says St. Peter, and the second priest
disappears.

A week goes by, the computer is fixed, and the Lord
tells St. Peter to recall the two priests. "Will you have
any trouble locating them?" He asks.

"The first one should be easy," says St. Peter. "He's
somewhere over the Rockies, flying with the eagles.
But the second one could prove to be more difficult."

"Why?" asked the Lord.

"He's on a snow tire, somewhere in Upper Michigan.

Don't you love it? Here we all thought that priest was
going to be something else, right up to the last line
of the joke.

But don't laugh too hard. One must be careful what
they ask for. As a case in point why don't you go
looking for a lottery winner who has successfully
weathered the storm sudden money can bring on a
person, a family.

Go ahead, try. I would be surprised if you can find
such a person. You see they buy lottery tickets
thinking they will be on easy street when they no
longer have to worry about money. Think again.

Usually it means they buy a new house, buy a new
car, maybe a cabin, a boat, and other toys. They
take trips. They give some money away to the relatives.
But sooner or later there if far too much money left
at the end of the binge. Then comes the trouble. They
learn they have to report their tax situation. In other
words they have to keep paperwork. They learn
there is now no sense of purpose in their lives and
that sitting on a beach with drink in hand just doesn't
cut it somehow.

They learn, too, that suddenly they have way more
friends than they thought they had, each in their
own way with their hands out.

It becomes easy to take folks out and treat them.
Now you can drink all you want, or worse, you can
get into all the illicit drugs that suddenly come
your way.

And then, one day, you find yourself fighting with
your mate. You find the kids are getting into trouble.
You find you no longer have control of either you or
the situation, so you associate all the more with your
"friends" who are there so long as you are buying.

Soon you have no family, no home, no toys.
Depending on how deep you go you might even be
courting a relationship with the law you don't really
want. Your friends begin to leave. When you stop
buying they disappear for good.

Have I painted the story enough yet? Do you see
what happens to 99.9% of big lottery winners.

On the other hand, a person who works for a long time
to earn similar amounts of money can handle it. Not
only has that person maintained a sense of purpose
along the way but the money came gradually and
they were able to learn the tasks needed to properly
manage that amount of money.

Think on these things ...

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
PART 2 of 8
Inflammatory Process

QUESTION: Can you explain the inflammatory process? What
are the symptoms? How does it all work? ANSWER: It is
impossible to give a lot of detail about this most helpful and
wonderful body response to any sort of "invasion" by many,
many intruders, i.e. foreign bodies.

ANSWER: I did find a really interesting and helpful article by
Time magazine. However, when I asked for permission to use
the article, the fee was $500.00. So I declined and will use the
link TO the article instead. It describes this process in good
detail and uses our general knowledge about heart disease
as an example.

H E A L T H Beyond Cholesterol Inflammation is emerging
as a major risk factor - and not just in heart disease By ALICE PARK

Please make yourself familiar with this information. It could well
either save your life or prolong it. Again, we are speaking of a
degenerative condition. A degenerative condition is not a normal
aging phenomenon. It is abnormal and as such might well be
altered with certain nutritional and healthful practices. And as
already mentioned, this is reversible and preventable. You are
obviously reading this information because you are interested
in health issues. There is so much going on with degenerative
conditions and how to reverse the symptoms, how to get more
energy, and how/where to learn about nutrition. Become aware
of the term "oxidative stress".

For example, exercise is good in moderation, but becomes
harmful in excessive amounts. Figure out how that works in
your body. You might be setting up a negative response in
your body by over-exercising when in fact all you want to
do is be healthy.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------

Life was not the same for Riata. Ever since
she left the orphanage and the kids had all
learned higher law, there was not much need for
her time or talents.

Even at home, her Father, Miguele, was not
bringing home stray kids any more. He, too, had
learned higher law and while often away, he was
not doing his former work.

For a while Riata was all taken up with her
sister's baby Maria. She was now a year old and
the family was doing wonderfully. Romano's
brothers and sister lived with them. They, too,
had learned higher law. The household thrived.

Yet Riata was an aunt. She had no boyfriend of
her own. So she decided to go visit Reno and
Amenti in China. That was a life she was used to.
She would thrive in the orphanage there in China.

That is what she did and the first person she
saw was Mae Wiley. "Hello Mae. How are you?"

"Riata! How are you?" Mae came running to meet
her and gave her a big hug. Mae was excited to see
Riata because it had been a while. "It's good to
have you here. Are you going to stay a while?"

"I hope so. We'll see. How are things here?"

"Well, as you might expect, Reno and Amenti
are running things just as you did back home. It's
wonderful and the kids love it."

Riata was about to open her mouth to speak
when she saw people running toward her. Reno and
Amenti had seen her with Mae and were running
excitedly toward them.

"Hi Riata! Boy it's nice to see you." Reno
gave Riata a big, long hug.

Amenti did the same only his hug was not quite
so long because of the male/female thing.

Riata was pleased she was welcome here. She
liked it here the time she was here earlier. "I'm
fine you guys. It's good to see you. Everything
all right?"

"Oh everything is fine. There is never any
problems when you live by higher law, you know
that." Reno really meant that any problems that
came up were easily handled.

The truth is life at the orphanage was easy.
It was filled with love, peace, fulfillment. Those
who lived here felt loved, wanted and were filled
with confidence. They also learned the rules of
living by higher law and were sufficiently
isolated from the outside world they could
practise here. Additionally, living by higher law
was all they saw here. It was a natural thing for
them to follow the examples before them, without
question.

Mae and Susan had been away several times in
the last two months, sometimes for a week. They
were gradually weaning Tlang from her need to have
them around. Some of those trips were to aid in
some problem somewhere, but some were also
arbitrary just for the purpose of weaning Tlang.
Maria, since she had arrived here fully six
months earlier had not left. She had left her old
life behind and loved it here. She felt as if she
were needed here and she rightly felt she was a
contributor.

Reno and Amenti, while they were in charge,
did not "rule" the orphanage with an "iron hand".
There was never a need for discipline. All the
children wanted to please, to share, to help. That
is what living in a continual environment of love
can produce. The love that one felt here was
almost tangible, touchable, intense.

The orphanage had grown some, not much, but
from time to time a stray youngster would wander
in and never want to leave. Reno and Amenti
clarified each time that the child was indeed
parent less.

So life at the orphanage was nice, wonderful.
It was not, however, boring. With over a hundred
kids now, there was always something new and
different happening. Someone would find something,
someone else would see something, or someone would
fall and hurt themselves. Anything was bound to
happen, and some days it happened in bunches. That
is what this day was. Not only did Riata arrive,
much to everyone's pleasure, but there were
screams of fear coming from the other side of the
orphanage at that very moment.

Everyone dropped what they were doing and went
to see why the screams. It wasn't much. A young
lady had been walking at the edge of the bank of
the stream. The earth had given way and she
tumbled down the bank, or at least partly. Her
foot had gotten caught in the Y of a tree branch
and she was left hanging upside down with her head
about a foot above the stream. Her foot had caught
in such a way she was unable to free herself no
matter how hard she tried.

The other kids were there on the bank looking
at her and laughing. The sight did look funny, but
it was frightening to the little girl. Within
seconds one of the older kids had freed her and
she was fine but for a few scrapes. She had
been scared nonetheless.
