When winter hits this country it seems folks like to travel.
Have a look at this MediaDailyNews article. Interesting...

Nielsen: Online Travel Surges
By Gavin O’Malley
Friday, December 17, 2004

The number of people who used online travel sites in
November rose 13 percent year-over-year to 68 million,
Nielsen//NetRatings said yesterday in its holiday
e-spending report, done in conjunction with Goldman
Sachs and Harris Interactive. Consumers spent
$919 million online for travel during that month,
according to Nielsen--up 11 percent from $828 million
in November '03. This spike is attributed to record
travel numbers, since Christmas and New Year's
each fall on a weekend this year.

The report found that 23 percent of Americans, and
46 percent of all active Web users, visited a travel site
in November. "The market is great, and customers
are more comfortable with the Internet and are
responding to incentives that companies are offering,"
said Heather Dougherty, senior retail analyst,
Nielsen//NetRatings.

MapQuest, part of Time Warner Inc., ranked number
one in online travel destinations in November, with
31 million unique visitors. Expedia followed, with
14 million visitors. Travelocity drew 11 million Web
surfers, and Orbitz.com and Southwest Airlines made
the top five, with 11 million and 7 million unique
visitors, respectively.

Much of the online travel spending stemmed from
lower- to upper-middle-class households, according
to Dougherty. Households with incomes of $50,000
to $74,999 made up 28 percent, or the largest group
of online travel visitors, during November. Those
households with incomes of $25,000 to $49,999 made
up 20 percent of online travel visitors. A close
third--online surfers with household incomes of
$75,000 to $99,999--comprised 19 percent of those
visiting online travel destinations.

Those living in household with incomes of $75,000
or more tended to favor brand-specific travel Web
sites over any other category of travel sites, while
those earning $75,000 or less tended toward
multi-category travel sites such as Expedia and
Travelocity for comparison shopping.

"The really interesting thing going on in travel is the
contest between online agencies like MapQuest
and suppliers such as American Airlines who are
finding that they can sell directly to consumers,"
commented Dougherty. "Agencies serve a purpose,
but suppliers are making more of an effort to cut
out the middlemen."

World air travel has recovered well from the
9/11-triggered recession, Airbus, the European
civil aircraft maker, said Wednesday.

Separately, Nielsen tallied the top ten advertisers
during the month of November, ranked by
impressions and based on data from AdRelevance,
Nielsen's advertising research service. First was
Netflix, Inc., with 2,188,890 impressions served.
Following was LowerMyBills.com, Inc. with 2,074,115
and Dell Computer Corporation with 1,865,072. The
only travel-related company to make the top 10 was
Orbitz, with 1,020,835 impressions served.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson

I Wish Doctors Had More Time to Listen.
Then You Wouldn't Be Looking For Your
Own Solutions On The Internet. (How To
Use The Internet Knowledge And Still Keep
Your Doctor!)
PART 7 of 10

Back to my conversation with Nancy. She also
mentioned that sometimes her face and that side of
her body became numb! Her doctor had sent her for
an EEG (Electroencephalogram . . . a test to check the
activity and structures of the brain for abnormalities.)
No problems were apparent there. That's good and
that's bad. She still has no idea how these symptoms
come and go. And the severity of them is increasing.
What was interesting as we tried to come up with possible
causes, we discovered things she was doing herself to
try eliminate her symptoms. Such as herbal and over
the counter (OTC) remedies. Then we discovered some
chemicals such as cleaning products that might be adding
to the symptoms. Who knows... The point is that few doctors
have the time to investigate like this. My point in describing
Nancy's predicament is that this lack of investigative
time is normal in a doctor's office. They are not given
adequate time to do a thorough workup and discover
relevant possibilities. (One of the most fascinating activities
in big medical centers is "Grand Rounds'. If you participate
as a patient, it means that you have something complex
and all "brains" are needed to come up with a possible
diagnosis. If you are a spectator, it's fascinating to hear
all the cross-speciality thinking!) Just to add another
comment to Nancy's information . . . I had sent her some
information about possible "triggers" for her symptoms
and she has just sent me an email back. She and her
mother found several things that might be contributing
to the throat and ear problem.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Tim knew she was out there. He was sitting in
the living room at home watching a little TV and
sensed she was outside the house. His folks were
down visiting Eloise, so the boys were at home
alone. At the moment Tom and Billy were out
somewhere.

Sharon Smithson was pacing. She had walked
past the Henry house to the end of the block then
turned around and walked past it again. She had
done this a number times in an attempt to build up
the courage to go knock on the door. Finally she
did.

The doorbell rang. Tim got up to answer it
knowing full well who was there. "Hello Sharon,
how are you?"

"He...hello Tim. May I come in?" She was
nervous and sensitive about this visit.

Tim knew why she was here and admired her
courage. It took a lot for her to do this.

"Sure Sharon, come on in. How would you like a
coffee?" Tim was polite and courteous. He led her
into the kitchen. "Here, have a seat."

Tim then went to the coffee maker which was
always on in this house, and poured two cups of
coffee. Bringing them over to the table he said
"Sure is a nice day out there isn't it?"

"Yeah."

"Well, I'm glad to see you Sharon. I did not
expect your visit."

"Oh! Tim! I'm so sorry." And she bust out
crying.

Tim walked over to her and pressed her head
against his stomach. "I know. Don't worry, I know
what happened and what was going on. I expected
that much at least, maybe more. That you have come
here is a good sign for you. Things will be all
right for you from now on."

It was as if Tim had washed her conscious
clean. Something happened and she knew not what
but she felt clean, pure, fresh and free.

Tim returned to his chair and fixed up his
coffee the way he liked it.

Sharon now felt as if she could speak of past
events without getting emotional about them. She
wanted to explore them with Tim.

"What happened to me Tim? Why did I do things
like that thing in church?"

"Do you really want to talk about it Sharon?"

"Yes."

"Then what you did was the normal human thing.
So long as you live in man's world you shall do as
man expects. You spent time with me and the family
and you thought things were fine. I am not sure of
your motivation. I think it was because you wanted
a relationship with me and thought I might be
impressed when you continued trying to live by
higher law. When that did not culminate in having
sex with me it angered you, a natural human
emotion. Do you know why I did not have sex with
you Sharon?"

"N...no."

"It takes no skill, cleverness or courage to
have sex. People in this country use it as a form
of recreation. They are obsessed with it. They
know not what they do. Life is filled with stress,
the continual pursuit of the dollar and for a
'place in the sun'. Sex is used as temporary
relief, as a fun thing and to manipulate people. I
want no part of that. Sex takes away my power and
draws me down to the level of man when used the
way you wanted to have it. I want sex with you
when both you and I know it is right, on an
emotional level, on an intellectual level, and for
the right reasons. You shall not use sex to trap
me into doing things I do not want to do,
therefore I refuse to have sex with you or anyone
until there is the correct understanding between
us. I am in control of my life. You don't control
me and neither do my emotions control me. Only
clear thinking controls my life. Does that make
any sense?"

"Some, I guess...?"

"As for the rest of it, well, you felt like a
jilted woman. You went to where you thought you
were accepted and you told your story. It happened
to fit right in with what your pastor wanted to
hear and with what message he wanted to deliver to
his congregation. He is always searching for
material he can use to 'keep his flock in line'
and 'for their good' of course. Your story hit at
just the right time and he exploited you. I
witnessed it happening and decided untruths should
be shown for what they are. That Jesus came to
reinforce my stand was something I had not
planned. It was wonderful and no one at that
church that night mistook who he was."

"Hardly anyone goes to church anymore.
Whatever happened that night set them all on a
different course. The church is empty. Even the
Board of Elders is powerless and are talking of
shutting down the church."

TODAY'S REPORT:

Things have slowed down a little here on the net so I am
doing preparatory work for next year. That means getting
all my year end accounting up to date, setting objectives
for next year, and when Mom needs me for Christmas
things then I do some of that.

The closer to Christmas we get the more tension is in
the air. Folks are rushing around doing last minute things.
Slow down folks. Enjoy what you see. Enjoy what you
are doing. Think about what you are doing. Christmas
will be a lot more fun that way. Stay safe. Be happy!

HA! HA! HA!

After the Great Britain Beer Festival, in London, all the
brewery presidents decided to go out for a beer.

The guy from Corona sits down and says, 'Hey Senor, I
would like the world's best beer, a Corona.'

The bartender dusts off a bottle from the shelf and
gives it to him.

The guy from Budweiser says, 'I'd like the best beer in
the world, give me 'The King Of Beers', a Budweiser.'

The bartender gives him one.

The guy from Coors says, 'I'd like the only beer made
with Rocky Mountain spring water, give me a Coors.'

He gets it.

The guy from Guinness sits down and says, 'Give
me a Coke.'

The bartender is a little taken aback, but gives him what
he ordered.

The other brewery presidents look over at him and ask,
'Why aren't you drinking a Guinness?'

The Guinness president replies, 'Well, I figured if you guys
aren't drinking beer, neither would I.'
