What did Houdini tell his wife he would attempt to
do after his death?
Houdini was a skeptic on the subject of spirits returning
from the dead to speak to the living. Nevertheless, Houdini
and his wife Bess devised a secret message that was to be
used to test whether it was possible to send a message
"from beyond." For a decade after his death, Bess conducted
a séance on Halloween, the day of his passing. She never
received the message. Magicians and fans of Houdini have
kept up the tradition; each Halloween, there are numerous
séances held worldwide.
Who played Darth Vader in the Star Wars trilogy?
Seems easy, I know. But actually, four people played the
intimidating villain. James Earl Jones did the voice,
David Prowse served as the body, Sebastian Shaw was
the face, and a fourth actor performed the heavy breathing.

OPTIMIZE LIFE NOW!
with Dr. Rhoberta Shaler
---------------------
Why Meet?
I was recently consulting in a company that seemed to
work on wishes. They wished they knew what people
were thinking. They wished they could do something
about lack of trust. They wished folks would come
forward with their issues rather than chatting in halls.
They wished they were "all on the same page". Why
wish? Meet!
Three things are impossible: to know what's needed
unless you ask, to know what another is thinking unless
you talk, and, to move an organization forward without
trust. They become possible when you meet.
Why do we shy away from meeting? There are many
reasons. You may not feel comfortable speaking up in
a group. You may feel that there are dominant folks in
your group and you'll never get a word in anyway.
You may think it is a waste of time when everyone
could be at their terminals 'getting things done'. You
may not know how to run a good meeting. You may
have been coerced to attend non-productive, boring
meetings and never want to go through that again.
Whatever your reason, think it through again.
"There is no such thing as an organization! There is
only a group of people joining together around a
common purpose to produce sustainable benefits
and profitability for all concerned." You may have
read my quote before on the home page of my
website. I believe it's true. The operant words in
that quote are 'joining together'. The most effective
way to join together is to talk together. That is what
a meeting is.
Recently I met with a newly established management
team. They had an agenda filled with employee
concerns they had recorded as the result of a new
reporting line process. I asked them this question: How
will you communicate the results of this meeting to your
staff? One person said that the staff would be informed
on an as-needed basis. Another said that a meeting
would be called if they felt they had something important
to communicate. My next question: How will you
build trust with these folks? Oh, then there was silence.
We talked about the trust issue. Staff needed to know
that their concerns had been addressed. They needed
to know what progress or decisions had been made on
the issue. They needed to be able to trust the
management team. Oh, there IS a reason for having a
staff meeting following each management team
meeting.
One of the problems with our technologically oriented
workplace is that computers are great for hiding behind.
Have you noticed that?
Another issue in the workplace is that many positions
call for a high level of technological competency and
folks are promoted to supervisory or management
positions on this basis. Uh-oh, where are their people
skills? This is a very important consideration, isn't it?
People lacking people skills often dislike meetings.
Are you seeing a pattern here?
Why meet? Because it is the only effective way to
make informed decisions. Different people see different
sides of issues. Different people have different priorities.
Different people process information differently. Only
a meeting can create a true forum for maximizing
potential. Sure, it's more complex. Sure, it's an invitation
for conflict. Sure, it's time-consuming. Is it more complex,
conflicting and time-consuming than having
multitudinous side conversations in hallways and
lunch rooms with wide gaps between
management and staff? Absolutely not!
Why meet? Because it is cost, time and energy efficient!
Oh, yes, it does require good meeting skills for this to
be the case! Fortunately, these can be learned.

I Wish Doctors Had More Time to Listen.
Then You Wouldn't Be Looking For Your

Use The Internet Knowledge And Still Keep
Your Doctor!)
PART 9 of 10
Your research information is just like any other research
for a school project.
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/uspdi/202108.html
Use the Medline link for conditions and drug side
effects or possible complications. It's a government
site and most doctors believe the information. Check
out your prescription drugs or even the over the counter
(OTC) products. I would check them out first. I used to
send people to their druggists first, but lately they too
are very busy and don't really want to answer all these
questions. I find people are sent to the Internet to do
their own research!!! You also want to check out anything
you are putting into your mouth and thus body. A while
ago I wrote an article about possible triggers for certain
symptoms. These could be dental work and mold, or
cleaning products, or many other things. We live in a
world filled with chemicals, preservatives, and toxins.
But we demand them as they make our lives easier.
We are beginning to learn that there is a cost attached . . .
our health. One of the challenges your doctor may
have is believing that our environment is connected
to your health. And they may also not have the time
to really study the concept. So now you come along
and ask them to connect all the symptoms. It's the same
as twenty years ago, when we had no idea that diet
and heart disease or cholesterol could be connected,
and it took the medical community a long time to accept
this as truth. They tend to seek out double blind studies
and these are very costly and take a long time. In the
meantime you are not getting any better. And your
research tells you that the answer is at your fingertips.
So be understanding of their cautiousness and their
need to learn this their way. You can't force anyone to
see what you see. And understand that they are very
busy. Realize you are the most important person to
yourself. But your doctor has hundreds and maybe
even thousands just like you. Their appointments are
usually in ten-minute increments. That doesn't give
you much time to present your case . . . Alone try to
have them see it from your point of research.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------
"Man has learned to be greedy. Beyond that he
is a self centered creature that needs his 'place
in the sun'. So he spends his time trying to make
himself appear great amongst his peers. Even those
who say they are unselfish and giving do so to be
seen as such. I once visited a friend in the
hospital. While there her minister came in to
visit as well. He proceeded to tell her he had
held two prayer services for her. The only reason
he told her that was so he could get some credit
from her and be thought of as a good man. His
motivation was not to help her but to be seen as a
good man. That is typical of all men's motivation.
They say they are kind, and good, and giving. Yet
the more they say that the more evident it becomes
that they do these things that they might be seen
as kind, loving, giving, and not truly doing it
for the benefit of others. Can you see that?"
"Yes but you still haven't answered why it is
difficult to learn higher law."
"We are getting there, Sharon, we're getting
there. Spiritual law is something like printing a
color picture on a page. When one looks at the
picture it appears completely like a color
photograph. Yet it is not. If you look closer you
will find that all color printing is no more and
no less than four colors , Cyan (light blue),
Magenta (a wine red), Yellow and Black, all put on
the paper in a series of dots. The dots are so
small and arranged in such a way that to the naked
eye it appears for all the world to be a color
photograph. Yet when you look at it through a
magnifying glass you will see the dots. That is
what spiritual law is. It is there all the time,
it is in effect all the time, it is the basis of
all things, but you cannot see it because you are
not looking at it, or for it. Once you stop seeing
only what you have been taught and begin to look
further afield you will then be able to see
spiritual law. Is that making any sense?"
"Some, Tim, but how do I do that. I want to
but I haven't been able to see."
"In truth Sharon you have seen. You just have
not been able to define it in ways you know to be
correct. The other night when I was at church I
was hovering over the floor for a bit. Man does
not know how that is done but he calls it
levitation. Once he has put a name to it he
accepts it and goes on with the rest of his life.
He pays no attention to it. When Jesus and I both
disappeared through the back wall of the church
you folks thought that a miracle. You saw what
happened but you could not explain it so you
called it a miracle. It was no miracle, Sharon.
There are spiritual laws that permit all men to do
that, once they learn them. Am I right? Isn't that
what the congregation thought after we left?"
"Yes. They still speak of it today."
"Well in the thinking it was a miracle they
have concluded their progress toward higher law.
They fail to look at spiritual law as being the
means whereby that is possible. The doubts they
have been given, both in and out of church, being
told it is not possible for man to do these
things, prevents them from accomplishing any
growth in spiritual law. The irony is that the
very man they purport to follow is the man that
told them that 'Whatsoever things ye shall ask of
me in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.' They
say they follow Jesus but they do not do as he
says."
"But you still aren't telling me how I can
learn higher law."
"Well I'll give you this much, you certainly
are focused on getting the answer you came for. I
hope you will be just as committed once you learn
the answer."
"I will, Tim. I'm sick and tired of this
confusion and I don't want to live my life
according to the greed, the fighting, the fear and
the worry I see my folks go through, and everyone
else for that matter."
"The first thing you must learn is to overcome
your emotions. You must learn to keep them so much
in control that all things you do is because of
clear thinking only. When you get into a situation
where you know you can do some good you must do
that only because you know it is the right thing
to do and not so people will see you and praise
you. Do the good deed and get out even before
people have a chance to say thank you. It is not
for praise that you do these things. Do them
because your clear thinking has directed you to do
so, then leave. Remember, 'Your Father which sees
you do these things shall reward you in secret.'
That is the point at which you want to arrive.
Next, you must gain that much control over your
emotions that you never again think evil of any
person or thing. You learn that life is, that all
things in life are, and that nothing is good or
bad except your thinking or your emotions make
them so. Accept things just as they are without
pronouncing judgment upon them. Leave your
emotions at home and live by a higher standard. Do
what is right just because it is right, and for no
other reason. Can you do that?"
"I will try."

The cop got out of his car and the young man rolled

The guy replied, "Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could."
When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid
