What is phrenology?

Phrenology is the study of the conformation of the skull
based on the belief that it is indicative of mental
faculties and character. Basically, the idea is that the
bumps on your head tell a lot about you! It was extremely
popular among Victorian parlor society, and widely accepted
at the time.

What was the US population at the start of the Civil War?

The US population in 1861, the start of the Civil War, was
small in comparison to today: just over 30 million
Americans. More than 600,000 Americans would be killed over
the next four years, and more than 500,000 wounded.

Climate summit opens in Montreal

The first United Nations climate conference since the Kyoto
agreement came into force in February has opened with the US
still resisting targets.

Delegates meeting in the Canadian city of Montreal are to
discuss how targets on cutting greenhouse gas emissions over
the next seven years will be met.

Thousands of scientists, officials and environmentalists are
attending 12 days of talks.

They will also look at what measures will follow in 2012
when Kyoto expires.

As host government, Canada is trying to find a formula which
would enable the US, other industrialised countries and the
developing nations to unite under a combined statement on
future action.

A no-confidence vote due to be held in Canada later on
Monday may disrupt proceedings as the minority Liberal
government looks set to lose, and its defeat would trigger
an election campaign.

US resistance

The US, which fears the Kyoto deal could harm development
and economic growth, has in any case said it would resist
the Canadian proposal.

President Bush's chief environmental advisor, James
Connaughton, made clear the US would not support binding
targets.

"We don't need them," he told reporters, pushing the case
that "many of the more consequential initiatives [on cutting
emissions] have occurred outside of a treaty process."

Because the US has not ratified Kyoto, it will take no
formal part in discussions held under its provisions.

However, the Americans do have a place at the table in
Montreal, because they are participants in the UN Framework
Convention on Climate Change - the broader agreement which
gave rise to the legally binding protocol.

Canadian Environment Minister Stephane Dion told the BBC he
was interested in seeking a rapprochement amongst countries
with different views on the best approach to tackling
climate change.

Developing countries' share

Environmental pressure groups argue it is pointless to
attempt to re-engage the Bush administration on meaningful
worldwide action on global warming.

"The one thing... we cannot afford is to allow this US
administration to hold the rest of the world hostage while
they go on about voluntary this and voluntary that," Steve
Sawyer of Greenpeace told the BBC.

UK government officials, negotiating on behalf of the EU as
Britain holds the current presidency, are determined to use
the Montreal talks to demonstrate that binding targets on
cutting greenhouse gas emissions are here to stay.

They also believe flexibility will be needed in the measures
developing countries may be persuaded to adopt to limit the
growth in their own emissions as their economies expand.

That is an extremely sensitive subject, our correspondent
says.

A key measure of the success or otherwise of this conference
will be if the first tentative signs emerge that countries
such as China, India and Brazil are prepared even to talk
about taking on formal commitments of their own in the
global battle against climate change.

The Inflammatory Process
A Special Gift From Nature To You
PART 12 of 12

Near the beginning, in introducing the Inflammatory Process,
I said, “You have no warning it will happen, BUT its
INTENTION is to PROTECT you.” You do have a good idea of
what your allergies might be, right? So you know that if you
are exposed to them, they would give you possible trouble.
Now you can put your new knowledge to work. Think as to how
you would choose to handle the symptoms.

You have been blessed with abundant common sense. Use it.
Ask questions. Think for yourself. Don’t sign away your
rights without knowing the consequences and being able to
live with those consequences. If you don’t understand the
words or the implications of the proposed intervention or
treatment, ask. Get clarification. Ask for alternatives. I
am seeing a decided shift in the number of people who choose
to take control of their own health. Fewer and fewer people
are just blindly doing things without thinking what is going
on or what consequences may be waiting for them.

When I worked in a hospital setting, I used to ask people
why they did things without knowing what was going to happen
to them. Often they would actually sign surgical consent
form without having any specific idea what might happen.
They had no clue what the terms meant. Of course they knew
generally what their surgery was about, but had no idea as
to the specifics. They were told it needed to be done. That
doesn’t make much sense. These same people could run the
other parts of their lives very well. They just didn’t know
they had a choice to make and it was theirs to make.

This all sounds very simplistic, doesn’t it? And it sounds
as though I am “anti-drug treatment”. I believe drugs have a
very important part to play in anyone’s life. But I urge you
to understand how they work and how your own body responds
to any intruders. But do this before you take the
responsibility of putting this chemical into your body.

Wasn’t your entire goal based on getting help to relieve the
unwanted symptoms? Sometimes we don’t really understand that
nature has already built in some amazing support. Could you
maybe be looking for help in places other than nature had
already gifted you? Guard your immune system and enjoy the
protection of your inflammatory process. It has incredible
power to keep you healthy!

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.
It will change your life. Go to

Billy Hendricks was one of the fortunate few who, being
well established onto a path that would ruin his life, ran
into the Henry boys and made an escape from his
circumstances.

As with all young men who begin walking down the wrong
road, Billy was a quick study. He watched Tim and Tom and
worked with them. He was ready when Jesus provided the
catalyst at Tim's and Sharon's wedding. He learned higher
law and pursued it hungrily.

Here he was in China having the privilege of witnessing
the ceremony for Riata. He was entirely familiar with her
story, having visited many times the shrine in Matto Grosso.

Billy had already been all over the world. He was an
unattached and willing worker. He had therefore, been asked
to aid at many earthquakes, floods, hurricanes and other
disasters man made or otherwise.

His good fortune was continuing. Here, for the first
time he had locked eyes with a woman that captured his heart
and his imagination. Now she was gone. She just left and
already he was feeling a hole in his heart. He had not felt
this way before.

Even when the Henry boys found mates, leaving Billy
pretty much to fend for himself, he didn't feel lonely or in
any way lacking. Now, suddenly, he was missing something. He
didn't know exactly what it was that he was missing but
somehow there was a big hole in his heart, as if truly a
part of him had been removed.

He hung around because the Henry family was all there
but for Tim and Sharon and Maz and Eloise. He always liked
being around the Henrys. They not only were the ones who
rescued him, fed, clothed and looked after him, but they
were just nice folks, friends.

Billy gave Riata a big kiss and a hug. He loved her in
the same sense all those who live by higher law love one
another. It was a deep knowing and respect one for the other
in which the libido had no part.

He was also a lover of kids and here was a group of
youngsters who had just crossed over the veil of simplicity.
They were all newcomers to the knowledge.

Billy settled in among them as if a kid himself. He
spoke with them answering their questions, and they were
many. This was a whole new world to them. The quicksand was
no longer in front of the orphanage, but every one of the
kids knew full well if they had tried to walk through it
they would have been in trouble. They had each been forced
to accept higher law as the only way out of their
predicament. They had all chosen correctly, having been well
trained by Riata, Reno, Maria and Amenti.

The kids had been ready. Sam had only provided the
reason to make the move now. Sam Henry was pretty astute at
measuring such issues.

Billy looked over at the group of adults. He observed
for the first time a romance he had not seen before. It
seems that young love begets young love. There seems to be a
part of it that is contagious. Tom and Tlang were so
obviously in love the emotion spread around. It had struck
Billy. He wasn't just too sure about it, but it had nailed
him.

The one he was observing now was Reno and Amenti. These
two had been together for years, first in the orphanage in
Matto Grosso and now here. They had always had an attraction
for each other but here, in the middle of the
congratulations to Riata, Amenti had, without thinking,
hugged and kissed Reno, and the blood started coursing
through the veins of each of them. When they parted they
looked into each others eyes and that was it. Soul to soul
they met and knew.

Now they could hardly get enough of each other. They
were new to this and so everything was a bit embarrassing.
That their sudden closeness was seen by all was
embarrassing. That they wanted to touch each other all the
time was at first embarrassing. That the kids saw, was
embarrassing. For the first couple hours after that first
kiss Reno was in a continual blush.

The pair of them got up to go for a walk, as young
lovers do, and the kids began to whistle and holler with cat
calls. The couple were so embarrassed they just took off
running. Billy calmed the kids down. "Hey guys! Don't you
know first love when you see it? It is beautiful, wonderful.
Be careful for each or you will be going through it. It is a
fine and nice thing. You should be happy for them."

One of the kids answered. "We are, Billy. But that
shouldn't stop us from teasing them. It just makes it better
for them. They'll remember it for a long time. It even helps
them get together." This young person was wise beyond her
years.

"Yes, you're right. I think we should all tease them,
but not unmercifully. Give them some chance to get away and
to be together. Encourage it. They are right for each other,
and good for each other."

Riata, Maria, Sam and Alewka, Miguele and Abetta and
Oomano and Romano all knew what was going on with Reno and
Amenti. They all smiled and sent their whole hearted love
and support unto the kids, who, by now were well out of
site.

Amenti stopped his running. They had run out the front
of the orphanage and onto the road. They were running toward
town, yet they didn't want to go there.

Puffed out he looked up and down the road. Reno, too,
was puffing from the exertion. Each was bent over holding
their knees for support. In that posture they looked at each
other. Maneuvering around, still with their hands on their
knees and out of breath they put their heads together. They
put the top of their heads on top of each others shoulders,
thus in this position their ears and cheeks were together.
They stayed that way for quite some time, gathering their
breath.

Then he said it ----- "I love you Reno."

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Neat as a New Pin: what is the reason "neat as a new pin"
means extremely neat?

In the days before pins were made of brass or tin coated,
they were made of iron wire and rusted quickly. Only a new
pin was without blemish.
