What is an "Achille's heel"?

An "Achille's heel" is a vulnerable spot. The phrase
originates in Greek myth with the hero Achilles. Born of a
mortal and a sea-nymph, Achilles did not, unfortunately,
inherit his mother's immortality. In an effort to provide
immortality for him, she took him to the sacred river Styx
and dipped him in. She had to hold him by the heel to do it,
so that was the ONLY part of Achilles that was not covered
by the waters and remained prone to injury. You couldn't
hurt him anywhere else. Sadly, while at war, Achilles got
shot with a poisoned arrow in - you guessed it - the heel.
He promptly died.

What is a caduceus?

You may not know the name, but you've probably seen it: a
caduceus is the serpentine staff long associated with the
medical profession (two snakes entwined around a staff).
It's actually the symbol of peace carried by the Greek god
Hermes (Hermes was the messenger god and so a pair of wings
was later added to denote the winged sandals he had). The US
Army medical corps adopted the caduceus as their insignia
because it looked so similar to the staff carried by the
mythical Asclepius, the famous Greek physician. Ascelpius'
staff, with only one snake and no wings, is considered the
true symbol of medicine and was adopted by the American
Medical Association.

Apple Selling More iPods Than Ever As Piracy Flourishes

Scarcely a month after the launch of the video iPod, Web
users have already started watching pirated TV shows and
movies on the portable media devices, the Wall Street
Journal reports. File sharing technologies like BitTorrent
make the formatting of TV shows and movies for devices like
the iPod relatively simple for savvy Web users. There are
also a sizable number of programs on the Web capable of
cracking copy protection on DVDs. An analyst estimates that
the average number of song purchases per iPod has fallen
from 25 to 15 in the last year, while the amount of
downloading from file sharing networks is nearly double what
it was two years ago--nearly a billion songs per month,
compared with iTunes' 600 million downloads in its
two-and-a-half years of existence. Another analyst says you
can't blame Apple for profiting from piracy, because piracy
existed long before the iPod. Rather, he said, all you can
do blame the 21 st century.

Study: Middle-Aged Fond Of Online Video

CONSUMERS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 35 and 54 accounted for
almost half--45 percent--of all online video watched in
August, according to a report released Thursday by comScore
Networks and StreamingMedia.com. The report, "State of the
Consumer Streaming Market," also revealed that more than 100
million users, or 60 percent of the U.S. online video
population, consume online digital media in a month.
Additionally, more than 17 percent of U.S. Internet users
streamed content from a music site, and 15 percent did so
from a retail site.

The Brain And Spinal Cord
Parts Of Your Body's Nervous System
Part 3 of 6

The Visible Picture
If you touch your head right now, you would (probably) feel hair
and skin and know that the thick bony "thing" under the skin and
hair (scalp) is your skull. And in the bony "hollow" of your
skull, (which resembles a cage), nestles or encloses your brain.
"Attached" or connected to brain is the vertebral column: your
spine or backbone. Once inside this cage or hollow space (skull)
you will find an incredible "machine" that keeps you alive 24/7.
The unbelievable thing is that you are kept alive by something
you can't see! And it will keep you like that until you cause it
to run out of fuel...either by an accident, degeneration, or by
the normal aging process. Scientifically, we know your body can
remain healthy for many, many years.

Suppose you banged your head. You would think the soft, fragile
tissue of the brain would be scraping the rough undersurface of
the bone. But you would be wrong. Your bone is lined with a
protective layer of special cells.

Your entire brain is "bathed and swimming" in a special solution
called cerebral spinal fluid called CSF. It acts as a buffer and
carries lots of nutrients. This fluid keeps the brain from being
bounced around and damaged. It also has three layers of
protective tissue before you get to the actual brain matter.
The bone with its absorbable structures and the fluid absorb
most of the shock. Now if you are a boxer with repeated blows to
the head, neither the bone nor the fluid can protect all the
shock. Something will eventually break down.

Some people think their heads are just a cap where in fact it's
a total cover, with many openings. The eyes, ears, nose, and
spinal cord all have their own openings and are all connected in
a variety of ways. Bone is also a "tissue" but we tend to use
the term for soft pliable material. And it's easier to say bone.

So how does your head stay on your body ...why should you care?
You should care tremendously as without your head and all its'
related functions, you are dead! Essentially all the invisible
"power" that keeps you going is not "disconnected".

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.
It will change your life. Go to

Billy was keen on working with the kids but the hour was
getting late and he knew folks would soon begin to turn in.

He was again noticing an emptiness in his heart. He sent
a message, "I think I'm falling in love with you." It wasn't
long before he got a message back. "I think I am with you,
too. What happened?"

Billy sat silently. The very idea she loved him too was
both thrilling and scary. He sat there, his heart pounding,
wanting to be with her, but he was scared too. "What happens
in a marriage? Am I up for it?" These were questions he
asked himself.

"Come over and see me." He received this message maybe
10 minutes after the first. He could hardly wait.

"You know guys, I want to go 'girlin'', is that okay
with you?" He knew he was going to get teased.

The kids almost simultaneously all put their hands to
their foreheads and said "Oh! No! Not you too?"

The adults all looked over to see what was happening.
All laughed. Billy was right, he was right in the thick of
it.

He rose. "Okay for you guys. You teased me right out of
here." He sent love unto them. They all knew all was well.
"See you folks all later." He waved goodbye and was on
his way.

In the flash of an eye he touched down and began to walk
to where he knew she was. She came around the corner of the
house and saw him. "BILLY!" She shouted and was instantly on
the run. She ran him over like she was an animal.

They hugged, held one another, kissed and did it all
over again.

"Oh! I love you." He was overcome with emotions and he
let his feelings all out.

She wouldn't let go of him. She held him, squeezed him,
kissed him. It was as if she had been preparing for this
moment her entire life.

Billy noticed she was a strong woman. She hugged him
tight, as if she never wanted to let go of him.

The floodgates had been opened and would not now be able
to close. Both their hearts were becoming one. It was as if
this was a relationship that had to be. It was completely
unexpected by either of them yet, suddenly, it was there.

"This is all happening so fast. I'm not sure I know what
to do. I have not experienced this before."

"Nor I. This is all new to me. I didn't see it coming. I
find it wonderful. I don't want to let you go. You must stay
here with me. We'll take it day by day and see where things
lead. Oh, I love you." She kissed him again. It was more
like consumed him. Her mouth was wide open as if she were
going to eat him alive.

This was a strong and independent woman. That is one of
the reasons he loved her. She was beautiful. In the flash of
an eye he knew he wanted her to be the Mother of his
children. He had gone the distance. He knew that from this
time he would be permanently with this woman. What a
beautiful creature she was.

"Whoa! We better come up for air." He tried to dislodge
himself from her grasp, so they could sit down on the grass
and talk. She didn't want to let go. He broke her hold but
she still hung on to his arm.

The pair of them sat on the grass and watched the most
fantastic sunset Billy had ever seen. Maybe it was that
before now he never really had much of an appreciation for
beauty. He felt this sunset was arranged just for them. He
took a photograph with his heart. This moment would be
etched in his soul forever.

Billy's heart was thumping. He could not believe it was
possible for a man to be this drawn to a woman. He wanted
her physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. He, too,
now wanted to consume her.

He reached over to her away shoulder and pulled her to
him. They lay back on the grass. They hugged, kissed, rubbed
their bodies together. Their breathing was becoming short
and ragged.

"Oooohhh! I love you." He almost moaned it out. It was
hard for anyone to hear over her own moans, but she heard
it. She pushed herself to him. She now wanted him physically
as much as he wanted her yet she knew she would not go that
far. She also knew he would not. He would wait until the
relationship was officially sanctioned in front of others.

"We better get up and go for a walk. We can't keep
holding each other like this for I can't promise how long I
can keep my hands off you."

"I don't want your hands off me silly. I want you to
touch me."

"I know. That is the problem. There will be a time and a
place for that, but not now."

"I know. I agree."

They sat up, then they stood. Billy took a very long and
deep breath. "Phew! That was powerful. I thought I was lost
forever."

"You are Billy Hendricks. You fell in love and that will
be forever."

"I love you." He put his arms around her and held her
tight. She came to him, willingly, wantingly.

"I love you too, Billy, more than I ever thought
possible. I'm glad you came. Maybe we should go tell my
parents."

"I doubt we'll have to say anything. From the look on
our faces I am sure they will know."

"Yes, we already know. With you two making so much noise
out here and with all the sweet nothings you are saying into
each others ears, we know. Billy, Sonora, come to the fire."

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Salary: Where did we get the word "salary"?

From the ancient Romans. The word literally means "salt
money". The Roman soldier was once given an allowance of
salt; then he was given an allowance of money for the
purchase of salt. This was called a salarium - from sal,
meaning "salt".

HA! HA! HA!

The dazed crew of a Japanese Trawler were recovered off the
Sea of Japan clinging to the wreckage of their ship. Their
rescue, however, was followed by immediate imprisonment once
authorities questioned the sailors on their ship's loss.
They claimed that a cow, falling out of the clear blue sky,
had struck the trawler amidships, shattering it's hull and
sinking the vessel within minutes.

They remained in prison for several weeks, until the Russian
Air Force reluctantly informed Japanese authorities that the
crew of one of its cargo planes had apparently stolen a cow
wandering at the edge of a Siberian airfield. They forced
the cow into the plane's hold and hastily departed for home.
Unprepared for live cargo, the Russian crew was ill-equipped
to manage a rampaging cow within its hold. To save the
aircraft and themselves, they shoved the animal out of the
cargo hold as they crossed the Sea of Japan at an altitude
of 30,000 feet.
