TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

What plant is cultivated on every continent except
Antarctica?

What are the six "kingdoms" into which we classify all
living things?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Do apple seeds contain arsenic?

No, but they DO contain another potentially lethal toxin:
cyanide. That's the bad news. The good news is you'd have to
eat at least a bushel full of apples all at once, seeds
included, to suffer any harm.

Can plants grow underground?

At least one can. Scientists have discovered a rare
meat-eating plant that grows underground. The unusual
species of utricularia is carnivorous -- eating nematodes
and other tiny underground creatures with a nodule that
sucks the meat into the plant. It was discovered at the
Central Florida Archbold Biological Station in Lake Wales,
Fla. Scientists say by growing underground, the unique plant
is protected from evaporation. It has leaves that grow
upward and roots that grow downward from the underground
main stalk.

Harmony At All Times

Whenever your kids are out of control, you can take comfort
from the thought that even God's omnipotence did not extend
to God's kids. After creating heaven and earth, God created
Adam and Eve. And the first thing he said was, "Don't."

"Don't what?" Adam replied. "Don't eat the forbidden fruit,"
God said. Forbidden fruit? We got forbidden fruit? Hey,
Eve...we got forbidden fruit!"

"No way!"

"Way!"

"Don't eat that fruit!" said God.

"Why?"

"Because I am your Father and I said so!" said God
(wondering why he hadn't stopped after making the
elephants). A few minutes later God saw his kids having an
apple break and was angry. "Didn't I tell you not to eat the
fruit?" God asked.

"Uh huh, " Adam replied.

"Then why did you?"

"I dunno" Eve answered.

"She started it!" Adam said.

"Did not!"

"Did too!"

"DID NOT!"

Having had it with the two of them, God's punishment was
that Adam and Eve should have children of their own. Thus
the pattern was set and it has never changed. If God had
trouble handling children, what makes you think it would be
a piece of cake for you?

Advice for the day: If you have a lot of tension and you get
a headache, do what it says on the aspirin bottle: Take two
and keep away from children.

Boy, isn't that the truth! I wondered where all that
started.

It seems in the nature of man to be contentious. Yet it is
in harmony that one grows to great things.

Practicing harmony in all things, at all times, at all
costs, sounds, on the surface to be a little too much of a
demand. It isn't, when you know the real truth.

We are not saying here, simply, get along with others. That
should go without saying, for there is value and reward
enough for that. What we are saying is practice harmony with
all of nature, the trees, the air, the rocks, the land, the
lakes, as well as with all creatures in it, including man.

Harmony is not only getting along with man. It is being one
with all things in your environment. It is recognizing the
life force in all things and being at peace within and
without, with all things. It is a flowing through the earth
in a smooth and non contentious manner in order to quietly
and solidly slip into the position you are seeking.

Contention with anyone or anything merely occupies your time
and energies. It is in harmony that we silently succeed at
the things we want.

To be contentious is to emotionally attempt to boost your
ego, to show your smarts, so to speak, to let the world know
you exist. To be harmonious is to quietly slip past all the
roadblocks and arrive at your destination while others
struggle.

It is quite clear Adam would have been better off if he had
not eaten the apple. So, too, with you. As you harmoniously
blend in with your environment, your environment begins to
appear as you wish.

Harmony in all things, at all times, at all costs, pay
larger dividends than you can possibly imagine. Clearly it
is worth your efforts. Surprises are in store for you.

Remember, Harmony At All Times

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -

Cold Feet and a Warm But Tired Out Heart
Trying to live a quality lifestyle when things
are falling down around you.
PART 2 of 2

So my obvious questions were about what he had for breakfast
(it was after 11:00 AM) and how did he sleep last night.and
wasn't he cold with just that thin shirt and open sports jacket (it was
mid November). Even in the midst of crowds, you can have very
meaningful conversations!

He shared with me that he hadn't had breakfast yet and wasn't
sure what he would have. He couldn't bother to shop. It was too
confusing and he never got the right stuff! So I took him over to
the food section and introduced him to power bars.

And why didn't he sleep well at night? It turned out he was
always cold and his feet were icy and kept him awake. Did he
have a pair of woolly sox, I asked? He smiled and said he
had a drawer full from Christmas presents, which he never used.

So now we had him munching on a power bar, promising to wear
warm, woolly sox to bed.next was the shirt and jacket. It was
obvious he wasn't destitute. And even I found out he owned wool
shirts and had several crewneck sweaters!

Things were really looking up! I discovered he had a microwave
oven and could operate it, ditto with a kettle! So we discussed TV
dinners and seniors' meal prepared by certain community groups
and "Meals on Wheels". He was given a quick lesson in heating \
his favorite soups as drinks instead of the convenient colas he
drank when he was thirsty. And lastly, I planted the idea of him
being the driver for a group of women in his apartment block
who no longer wanted to drive in the evenings. In exchange, he
could offer to arrange for a group meal on a regular basis so
everyone could eat and socialize.

By now I had gathered quite a group of interested bystanders.
This gentleman didn't need money. He needed someone to help
him get past the next few weeks with ideas and understanding.

So the ideas flowed freely. Everyone joined in! He left with more
than just a rather long list of things to eat, to shop for, and to
wear to bed! He left with hugs, a much more hopeful heart, and
a huge smile. And we were left with warmth and a feeling of
having made a difference in the life of a fellow "earthly" traveller.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.
It will change your life. Go to

your favorite bookstore. ISBN # 1-4137-4723-X

"We thought you folks would be back for the fire. Have a
good walk?"

"Yes, Daddy. It is nice to be with friends and it is
nice that they are all in the same situation."

"Have you people eaten?" Kenyata, always the Mom.

"We chewed on some dried meat slices while we were
walking back. We just wanted to be around the fire tonight.
We're okay, Mom. Thanks.

Mombudo and Hemno were adding more wood to the cook fire
which, by now was only smoldering ashes. The wood they put
on the fire was so dry it took no time to catch and soon
there was a nice fire shedding its dancing light on the
faces of those sitting around it.

The conversation was casual, no longer the private
information talks the young lovers had while walking on the
plains. They chatted about such things as the honor Riata
received, about Tim and Sharon's wedding, about the work and
the things they had done.

Suddenly they heard gunfire. It was the gunfire of war,
not a hunter or a casual shot. In the distance they heard
reports from automatic weapons and they could hear people
scream.

There was no thought or no conversation given to the
situation. In that instant eight people disappeared from the
fire, leaving only Kenyata.

The situation was another warlord in Africa bent on
ridding his country of any who might oppose him. He knew he
could gain control of the country by killing all his
opposition. Otherwise his life was in danger every second of
every day. In this land there seemed to be the attitude that
if you didn't like your leader you shot him. There was no
impeachment more definite and the time frame was more
immediate. Rule of law has not yet occurred to many in this
land.

Sure enough, when the group arrived at the source of the
gunfire they were watching men marching in a line into a
village. They were shooting anything that moved, man, woman,
child or animal.

The group immediately imposed constrictions in the
barrels of the weapons and the next shot each weapon fired
caused the weapon to backfire. In an automatic weapon that
causes a considerable mess because there are so many shots
fired so rapidly one can't take a finger off the trigger
fast enough.

With that having happened the screams were now coming
from the killers. They had not expected any such condition
and that they were now with parts of faces burnt or blown
off, hands maimed, eyes blinded, all by the backfire of
their weapons, was a shock.

How did that happen? What went wrong? Looking around
there was not one man among them that was not hurt of
bleeding, in need of medical attention.

Now, the people in the village that had not been shot
came running with machete's held high. For sure the injured
killers were going to get their due.

Tom made himself visible, and stood between the killers
and the oncoming villagers. He broadcast love unto them as
they approached. He was able to stop the rush by raising
hands and he spoke calmly to them advising against the
expression of hatred in this way regardless what their
provocation was. Clear thinking was far more important than
emotional reaction. They stopped.

Tom turned now to face the killers. "This you have
brought upon yourselves. You shall have no favor with your
Gods. The killing of innocent people is forbidden in every
land in the world. You shall be left alone to tend to your
wounds. You can limp back to where you came from. From this
day forth you shall encounter terrible, severe pain whenever
you think of having a woman. That pain shall be in your
groin and it will be hard for you to walk. The pain will be
so severe you shall nearly go unconscious. This will last
all your life. You will also enjoy this pain any time you
pick up a weapon to harm anyone, including yourself. You
shall live long and this pain will be with you anytime you
think of doing any harm to anyone. Only if you love and give
will you be free of this pain. Go, shake hands with your
leaders, tell them of what happened here and as you tell
them of this punishment they, too, shall become afflicted
with the same pain. None within your organization shall be
free of this pain. All who planned and sought to do this
shall suffer this affliction."

With that Tom raised his hands in the air and sent a
white light of love unto all the wounded killers.

One man, a leader, became angry. "You shall not tell us
what to do. It is we who have the weapons. As he reached for
a knife in his belt he bent over screaming. Then he fell to
the ground in the fetal position and holding his groin.
There was no more opposition from any of the killers

Tom stood his ground with a brilliant white light
emitting from him in all directions. To the killers he was a
supernatural being. They were scared. In any way they could
they picked themselves up and left as quickly as they could
get out of there.

The group now put their attentions to the wounded. All
were healed, though the dead were not brought back to life.
There was great sadness in the village. When all were helped
that could be helped, the group withdrew.

They returned to the fire that Kenyata had kept burning,
patiently awaiting their return.

The conversation for the balance of the evening was
about the situation they just stopped.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Vaudeville: How did "vauseville" get its name?

The word is French and comes from the phrase "chanson du Vau
de Vire," meaning "a song of the Valley of Vire." The Vire
is a river in Normandy and in the fifteenth century Olivier
Baselin, a fuller of that region, composed a number of light
satirical songs that became very popular.

HA! HA! HA!

Breakfast is a lovely meal,
Which for me has great appeal.
I like the smell of coffee most,
But, oh, the sight of golden toast,
With two fresh eggs superbly fried,
And crispy beef fried at their side.
And fruit according to the season.
Breakfast, breakfast, you can't beat it,
Someday I hope I'll have the time to eat it.
