thePEBBLE - 12/11/05 - Do You Know What You're Doing?
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
The Saga of Pinehill, The Adventure - a many faceted read
you won't put down. It's an exciting adventure in which the
author has incorporated a study of human nature. Beyond that
he has taken us into a refreshing new world that appears plausible
and possible.
To give your mind an exciting run read as if you were one of
the characters. Read as if you hope that what is said
can truly be your world. It will change your life.
Exciting! Thrilling! Uplifting ... all that in one book is a
milestone.

What plant is cultivated on every continent except
Antarctica?
Wheat. For more than 7,000 years, wheat has been cultivated
just about everywhere you can think of. It is the most
widely grown plant and a staple of Western diets.
What are the six "kingdoms" into which we classify all
living things?
Biologists classify all living organisms according to a
system introduced by Carolus Linnaeus in 1735. Linnaeus and
his colleagues divided all living organisms into just two
kingdoms: plants and animals. Since that time, biologists
have realized that there are enough fundamental differences
between living organisms to warrant adding an additional
four kingdoms. We now recognize the following kingdoms:
Plants, Animals, Fungi, Protists, Monera, and Archaea.

Do You Know What You're Doing?
The boss ordered one of his men to dig a hole eight feet
deep. After the job was completed the boss returned and
explained an error had been made and the hole wouldn't be
needed. "Fill 'er up," he ordered.
The worker did as he'd been told. But he ran into a problem.
He couldn't get all the dirt packed back into the hole
without leaving a mound on top. He went to the office and
explained his problem.
The boss snorted, "Honestly! The kind of help you get these
days! There's obviously only one thing to do. You'll have to
dig that hole deeper!"
The joke is funny only if you realize that earth expands
about twenty five percent once you dig it up. Had the "boss"
ever had a shovel in his hands he may have realized that. It
would not matter how deep you dig that hole, when you filled
it in you would still have some left over, a mound on top.
This joke puts me in mind of those bosses who, knowing
nothing about computers or software, purchase both thinking
they have given the staff all the tools to do the job. So
often they end up with the wrong machines, the wrong
software and give the staff the most inefficient of tools.
It is too bad when someone, who doesn't know what they are
doing, gets involved in a task. So often fear, frustration
and failure are the result.
Such a waste of time, effort and emotions when a little
simple research and gathering knowledge ahead of time would
create a condition from which success could rise like a
phoenix.
How about you? Do you barge into things, thinking on the
surface it is bound to succeed? Have you really done your
homework before you've taken the plunge?
It is very easy to do, especially on the internet. All the
advertising and all the hype one sees on the internet has an
hypnotic effect. One sees so much of it that soon one gets
to believe you can make a fortune on the net.
That is true, you can. However, if you think it happens
automatically you had better wake up. Succeeding at anything
takes work, even on the internet. Oh, yes, there are tools
that make the internet a little more automatic, but there
are other conditions on the internet you don't see in a
brick and mortar business.
For example I make sales, often, to folks who have been
watching what I do for periods up to two and three years.
They look at our service, then go looking around. They wait
to see if we are still going to be here. They do not
realize, at first glance, that we've been here nearly ten
years. It takes time for them to trust themselves and to do
the research that allows them to understand what they are
doing.
That is really why we started the Cornerstone, to give folks
all they need to create a living on the internet. There is
no hype, no rah! rah!. Just plain useful tools and
facilities as well as counseling so people can succeed
without being given a bunch of hype.
Do your research.

Meniere's Syndrome
"Meniere's" is a condition affecting the
nerves of one or both inner ears.
PART 1 of 5
I want to share a little about a very disruptive and
debilitating condition. I wrote about it a while ago, but not in
much detail. Through thousands of emails, I have learned a lot:
about health care and about people, and it's time to say a
little more.
Normal Ear Function
Each inner ear has two nerves running side by side: the balance
(vestibular) nerve and the hearing (acoustic) nerve. Normally
the balance nerve will send and receive messages twenty four
hours a day to keep your body in whatever position you choose to
be in.bending over, shifting your weight, turning your head,
etc. And the acoustic or hearing nerve is there to receive and
interpret sounds so they will have meaning for you. For
instance, if you are exposed to loud noise, you will be able to
do some correction because it feels so uncomfortable. And
normally sound-wise, you have a lot of silence interspersed with
ordinary noises or unusual tones. You can handle all this
nicely. If you are exposed to some balance problem, chances are
you won't know about it, but the brain senses this imbalance and
sends a message asking the inner ear's "vestibular" or balance
nerve to correct it. Unless you are "hearing -impaired" you will
have these nerves working properly, but you most likely take
their activities for granted. And it's important to know that
each ear and its parts functions fairly independently. Just as
one hand can manage lots of activities, so can the ears.
Although it can be troublesome and often terrifying, Meniere's
is not something that's contagious. Meniere's symptoms usually
occur in only one ear. It affects both ears in only about 30% of
people.
Signs & symptoms that cause most of the difficulty are
characterized by abnormal sensation of movement (vertigo), loss
of hearing, and noises or ringing (tinnitus) in one or both
ears, and pressure or fullness in the ear. Vertigo is most
easily explained as the sensation of a room spinning out of
control, but there are different degrees of this spinning. For
some people it's a very fast spin.for others, it gets to the
point of dropping to the ground without any prior warning! And
still for others, it's a gentle movement, still unpleasant, but
the person can "live with it". For some, it's a dizziness that
comes and goes.usually without warning. Tinnitus is noise: again
different degrees of loudness or shrillness. Hearing fluctuation
is the changes of the sounds: high or low pitches. And pressure
or fullness in the ear is the sensation that there is
"something" in the ear.a very frustrating and uncomfortable
feeling. Our nerves automatically carry through with these
messages or commands. It is our body's intention to be "in
balance" at all times, so it adjusts for any differences.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

It is hard to understand why man wants things so bad he
is willing to kill another for it. Killing is expressly
forbidden in every religion in the world unless you warp the
teachings into some man made doctrine that permits it. What
we see in the world today is just that kind of condition.
Men are committing suicide in the false belief they will
bring about a new world order. Those who teach that are
weapons of mass destruction. They have aborted their
religions into something the gullible believe and killing is
the result.
The same condition happened years ago when the christian
church tried to convert indigent North American and South
American tribes. Those who did not convert were pronounced
heathens, heretics and burned at the stake. There were
hundreds of thousands who were killed that way in Latin
America, Mexico, Central America. The same thing is being
conducted today in other parts of the world. Convert, or you
will not have food provided for you, or medicines, or water.
Millions upon millions of dollars in medical aid and in
food are poured into countries needing help, yet that
material never reaches the intended recipients, too often
for religious sponsored political reasons. There are not
many more effective ways to take control of the country than
by stamping out opposing political areas by delaying or
preventing needed aid when such an area has suffered an
earthquake or tsunami or other natural disaster.
That is the nature of man and surprise, surprise, it
happens right here at home. There is not a government that
does not withhold some things in favor of gaining others.
And control can be sinister and frustrating. What looks
like a simple and necessary change in government can keep
the people under control. That is why governments change the
names of departments, switch areas of responsibility from
department to department, move department offices and change
phone numbers. All this change keeps the people always busy,
even frustrated, trying to keep up. While the people are
doing that the government usually gets away with the things
it wants.
So the condition that night in Africa was extreme, true,
but not unique or unusual. It is typical of man to do such
things. And it does not have to be within government. Anyone
who wants to "climb the ladder" is usually looking out for
opportunities to foul someone else seeking the same
promotion. It is in the heart of man. "Keeping up with the
Jones'" is merely a nice expression that really involves
much of the same thinking.
Is it any wonder those who come to higher law are so
relaxed, happy, peaceful. There is no need for man to
conduct himself this way. And those seeking peace of mind
can have it the instant they realize they must go inside to
establish communication with their Maker. Then and then only
will they have peace of mind. It also happens that
prosperity and happiness are also found there.
"Hello folks! How is everyone here tonight?"
Sam and Alewka Henry surprised everyone. They had been
so intent on talking about what had just happened they were
unaware of Sam's and Alewka's presence.
"Hi Mom, Dad, What brings you here?"
"Hi Tom. Oh! We just thought we might visit. It is
always nice to be around young lovers. They remind us of how
we were so many years ago, right Mombudo?"
"Humphf!" Mombudo laughed. "I think we did it better."
He laughed again.
The whole group laughed. Mombudo did not usually tease
but it was fun when he did.
"Come, join us you two. We were just sitting around the
fire talking." Amenti invited Sam and Alewka to sit.
"I know. I listened in for a while. I guess you just had
another incident."
"We did. We were just talking about how man always seems
to want to take things by force, even if he must kill. They
are so long in learning the law 'As ye sow, so shall ye
reap.' If they really understood that he who lives by the
gun shall die by the gun, them most would not take up the
gun."
"That is true Sonora, but man is first lazy. Rather than
do his own thinking he prefers to follow a leader, even if
that leader is doing the wrong things. To do one's own
thinking imposes upon man the responsibility of looking out
for himself. Most prefer that someone else look after them."
"But Mr. Sam, it is so plainly obvious. Why don't men
see, and learn? They go through so much pain, suffering and
limitation. They see themselves as separate of their God and
as limited in ability and thereby cause pain and poverty
where prosperity, peace, health and happiness are the norm."
"Yes, Reno. We all scratch our heads over that one. Why
is right, when it is so clear to those who think things
through."
As the night wore on the conversation continued to
search out reasons for man's actions. They also listened to
the night sounds of Africa. There were the lions hunting,
hyenas hunting, and all sorts of activity. It took some time
to get used to the sounds, if you weren't used to it.
The fire was warm, the company was great and
occasionally they had a beverage. All in all this fire was
like so many they attended It produced a comradeship and
togetherness that was hard to find any other way.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Ventriloquism: Where did we get the term "ventriloquism" as
a name for "throwing the voice"?
The word comes from the Latin and literally means "to speak
from the belly" - venter meaning "the belly", and loqui
meaning "to speak." The Romans thought that ventriloquists
spoke by using the air in their stomachs.

How to Place New Employees in a Proper Department
Take the prospective employees you are trying to place and
put them in a room with only a table and two chairs. Leave
them alone for two hours, without any instruction. At the
end of that time, go back and see what they are doing.
If they have taken the table apart, put them in Engineering.
If they are counting the butts in the ashtray, assign them
to Finance.
If they are waving their arms and talking out loud, send
them to Consulting.
If they are talking to the chairs, Personnel is a good spot
for them.
If they are wearing green sunglasses and need a haircut,
Computer Information Systems is their niche.
If the room has a sweaty odor, perhaps they're destined for
the Help Desk.
If they mention what a good price we got for the table and
chairs, put them into Purchasing.
If they mention that hardwood furniture DOES NOT come from
rainforests, Public Relations would suit them well.
If they are writing up the experience, send them to the
Technical Documents team.
If they don't even look up when you enter the room, assign
them to Security.
If they try to tell you it's not as bad as it looks, send
them to Marketing.
If they are sleeping, they are Management material.
