The Saga of Pinehill, The Adventure - a many faceted read
you won't put down. It's an exciting adventure in which the
author has incorporated a study of human nature. Beyond that
he has taken us into a refreshing new world that appears plausible
and possible.

To give your mind an exciting run read as if you were one of
the characters. Read as if you hope that what is said
can truly be your world. It will change your life.

Exciting! Thrilling! Uplifting ... all that in one book is a
milestone.

Can a sea wasp kill a human?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

What in the world is a sea cucumber?

The sea cucumber is not a plant, but a marine animal. It's
in the same class as sea-urchins, sea stars, and starfish.
Called "cucumbers" because of their shape, the sea cucumber
can grow three to four inches thick and range in length from
one inch to almost five feet.

Why do Australian lifeguards sometimes wear pantyhose on
their arms and legs while swimming?

To protect themselves from the deadliest of poisonous
creatures: the sea wasp, or marine stinger, a type of
jellyfish. Pantyhose doesn't seem like it would offer that
much protection, but it does. Turns out that the stingers
along the sea wasp's tentacles are triggered chemically, by
touching the skin of a fish or human. If the tentacles DON'T
come into contact with the chemicals on human skin, the
person won't get stung.

Exhausted Or Exhilarated - Which Do You Choose

The answer to that question would seem to be obvious. If we
stop to look at behavior, though, it seems many folks
prefer exhaustion. They might say differently, but,
behavior seldom lies. There is no question that folks are
busy beyond belief. But, what are they busy about?

Tonight I was giving a teleseminar helping direct sales
people overcome reluctances and resistances to succeeding.
I asked tonight's class what it was that kept them from
swimming for shore. Their answers: fear of success, kids'
needs, procrastination, lack of organization and working on
things that don't really need doing. That last one reminded
me of a quote from that great philosopher, Anonymous, who
said: "In the absence of clear goals, we become strangely
loyal to daily acts of trivia." Are you caught in the
trivia of your work or your life?

It's similar to treading water, I think. You can get very
tired treading water all day. In fact, it can exhaust you.
The exhilaration replaces that exhaustion when you actually
swim and reach shore--when you get somewhere. The big
question is 'Which shore are you headed for?' and 'Why?'
Unless you know exactly where you want to end up and why
that is your choice, you may tread water for a long time.
Some folks do it for a lifetime. Goals are quite
superficial unless you are clear about your compelling
reason for choosing them.

Last June, I was speaking to a group of women in Dallas
about some similar things. I told them that treading water
is really getting ready to get ready to swim. They laughed.
Really, though, it's very common for us to spend our lives
'getting ready to get ready' to really do something. How
many folks threaten to write a book? How many threaten to
run a marathon? All too often these are empty threats.

Talking about doing something someday makes great
conversation. Each time you do it, though, my guess is that
you feel a little disappointed in yourself. I know I do. I
have to stop and ask myself, "If this is important to me,
how much time have I given it this week?" That's a sobering
thought! Surely, if it's important enough to tell folks
about, it must be on my calendar. Right?

That's why it is important to choose your destination--the
shore you will swim to--and keep it in sight until you
arrive. Give up treading water. Reaching the goal is
exhilarating. Treading water is endless...and exhausting.
You choose!

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson

Meniere's Syndrome
"Meniere's" is a condition affecting the
nerves of one or both inner ears.
PART 4 of 5

Why does it affect people differently? Why is it more severe in
some and not in everyone?
As mentioned previously, the symptoms can vary in intensity and
severity. You have to realize that the human body is different
for each person, so their reactions are completely "their own"
No one CHOOSES to have these symptoms, and they cannot predict
or prevent them.

How did it gets this unusual name?
"Meniere" was a French physician who recognized the group of
common symptoms and gave them his name. It is sometimes easier
for the medical community to give things a name and then
everyone can recognize the required treatment and follow through
quickly without further testing.

Prognosis: what's in store for the Meniere's sufferer?
Most doctors, after exhausting their "traditional" medical
treatments, will tell the person they "have to just live with
it".an immensely difficult and depressing "treatment"! Often
this is seen or discussed as "all being in your head" or having
an over-active imagination! How wrong that is! These symptoms
are as real as having appendicitis: yet it's not recognized the
same way.

This condition has a negative affect on the entire family. Not
only does the person have the attack and knows the very real
loss of control and dignity, but they are also afraid to move in
case any movement will set off even a more severe episode.
Frequently they are speaking to a person that can't hear them
very well, in either one or both ears. That's very frustrating
and tiring. They feel physically exhausted and mentally
terrified. Each episode's onset is so completely out of their
control and can come quickly without any warning. People who are
not familiar with this condition tend to avoid Meniere's
sufferers, thinking they are drunk or dangerous. How sad and
incorrect a perception!

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.
It will change your life. Go to
http://www.the-pebble.com OR order yours from
your favorite bookstore. ISBN # 1-4137-4723-X

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------

"You were nearly out of food, Mom. What did you do?"

"Come with me. I want to show you something."

Eloise first took them down the path where she had found
fruit, lots of it. The kids had never given much thought to
the fruit hanging in the trees. When they were hungry they
merely reached up and grabbed a fruit and ate. Not all trees
bear fruit but in the jungle there are enough that one
should be able to find fruit easily.

"You kids take this food for granted. You have had it
all your lives. Back then I had never seen this kind of
fruit and I had no idea we were living in abundance. So this
is one of the things we ate, now come."

Next, Eloise walked them back into and through the camp
and took the half hour hike to the watering hole.

"Here is where we got out water and then David cut a
bamboo stick one day, sharpened it and waded out into the
water. Standing very still he was able to spear fish that
came around him. So we now had fish, fruit and water. We
knew we could live a long time on those three things."

"Wow! Mom, that was neat."

"Ahh, Sammy. It might look that way to you now, but to
David and I back then the significance of it really never
sank in. It came about because of guidance and leadership
from within. We kept calm and we looked and thought. Only by
remaining calm did we come up with the answers. Panic has no
place in a situation like this."

"But Mom, you ate and survived."

"Sure we did AliAnn. Yet, to you, being familiar with
the things of the jungle, to you it would seem obvious. To
us who had never been here before we had to figure
everything out, every last detail. I spent a lot of time in
meditation, learning about the environment in which I found
myself."

"What happened next, Mom?"

"What I am about to tell you must remain with you. I ask
you to understand we were just a couple kids from the U.S.
and we had ideas that were consistent with what kids did up
there. Up there kids get involved with sex pretty early in
life. David's ego, at the time, allowed him to want to be
the "boss". He started coming on to me and wanting to get
involved sexually. I didn't want anything to do with it. We
fought. That settled things down for a while. Then a while
later we fought over the same issue. I had forewarned him I
would leave him all alone if he ever did that kind of thing
again, so I left, early one morning before he was up. I
wasn't sure where I was going, but I was led. Come, let's
walk to where I went."

Eloise began to walk down the trail she had originally
used when she came to this place. After about 30 minutes she
turned off the trail onto another one. The trail she was on
now was grown over with jungle, it was faint and hardly
noticeable, but small game was still using it for one could
see that under the brush.

With a wave of her hand, Eloise caused the trail to be
open. "This is easy today, kids, but back then I did not
live by higher law and I had to cut my way through all this
stuff with a machete. I still had no idea where I was going.
All I wanted to do was get away from David and his ways."

They walked for about an hour before they began to see
things that were familiar to Eloise. Finally they came upon
the remnants of the old hut she had built. The kids ran
ahead. They could see the fire circle and they could see the
remains of the hut. They studied it and were impressed with
the construction.

"Let's sit and have a drink." Eloise thought they might
want to talk further.

"Mom, this is super. Wow! You done good, Mom."

Maz and Eloise smiled at each other. It was a joy to
share this part of her life with her kids. It was good that
they knew her story.

The kids lifted up the fallen roof of the hut and inside
was the raised bed Eloise had made, still standing and
strong. Her cupboard was still standing, too.

The kids explored around just trying to get a feel for
the place. Soon they came and sat down.

"How long did you live here, Mom?"

"For nearly six months, Sammy. It was here David healed
from a nasty wound and it was here we found both Midnight
and Boolanga."

"How did David get back into the picture?"

"I guess when he got up that morning and saw I had gone,
that he was alone, he panicked. He decided he was going to
go home, that he knew enough and was a man, after all, he
could make it. He didn't think it out very well, but that is
what he decided to do. He struck out and did fine until he
got to where he had to begin cutting his way through the
jungle. He ended up slashing the machete into his leg, a
real hard blow. He rested the balance of the day and by the
next morning his leg was infected. He tried to go further
but he could not. He had no idea how an infection can get
away on you out here. Before nightfall he was in terrific
pain. He tried to sleep but every time he moved he was
awakened with pain. Blood poisoning was crawling up his leg
and if he remained there he would have died.

I was told to go find him. In my meditations, I knew he
was in trouble. I set out down the path we just came and
after a number of hours I found him. He had set up his tent
and was inside. I called to him but by now he was
unconscious. I lifted the tent flap and phew, the place
stunk of his wound. I went into the tent to see what his
trouble was. One look at his leg and I knew. I knew he was
going to die if I didn't do something. His leg was red,
swollen and had puss draining from the wound. He had tried
to bandage it but to no avail."

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Yankee Dime: Why do we call a kiss a "yankee dime"?

This name for a kiss has its origin in our habit of
attributing to other sections of the country such behavior
and characteristics as we do not especially approve of.
"Yankees" were said to be so thrifty that they would rather
pay for something with a kiss than with a "coin." A kiss is
also called a "Quaker fip" (that is a five cent piece) for
the same reason.
