thePEBBLE - 12/21/05 - Whose Path Are You On?
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
A typical, obviously American, community. Two young people
given an opportunity for an a adventure with an attainable
financial reward. Their adventure into the inkonwn, not
restrained by dogmatic rules or community restraints, leads
them to resources that change no only the two adventurers'
attitudes, but attitudes of others.
The reader will either come away with a a feeling of
wonderment or question the writer's declared source, his
Maker, for the content.
I was not envious of the characters' adventures but enjoyed
the book as it refreshed the wonderment I had as a youth and
now as a practical adult, to "think outside the box" about
powers that are within us.

It took me back to my youth and now inspires me to "think
outside the box".

In the Nazi army, what was the difference between the
Brownshirts and the Blackshirts?
What's the difference between a hurricane, a typhoon, and

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Didn't the group worry about poisoning the American guards
at the camp who also ate bread?
No. The Nazis were served black bread, which the Americans
would not eat. The group did not attempt to poison the white
bread served to the US guards.
How many Nazis were killed by this attack?
No one knows for sure. The New York Times reported that no
prisoner actually died, though many were hospitalized. Other
papers reported that thousands died.

ANNOUNCEMENT! ANNOUNCEMENT! ANNOUNCEMENT!
thePEBBLE will no longer be publishing on weekends, beginning
in 2006.
For those of you who are steady readers I thank you for your
support and loyalty. I also ask you to understand there is
considerable commitment required to get thePEBBLE out
on a daily basis. New and different things are happening
in my life that make that close to impossible some days.
Giving me a break on weekends will go a very long way to
relieving that pressure because it will give me some "spare" time
in which to organize.
I thank you for your continued loyalty and support.
By the way, for those of you who have not purchased the book
The Saga of Pinehill, I ask you to do that today. The publisher and I
are coming to terms concerning the next book in the series and I
think we'll see The Saga of Pinehill II on the market next year.

Whose Path Are You On?
Have you ever followed a friend's or parent's suggestion for
a career path or relationship only to find that you were
going in a completely wrong direction for yourself? People
can be very persuasive...or directive. And, we listen.
When I was twenty-four, I was madly in love, the kind of
love that almost hurts it is so enthralling. I hope you've
had that experience. For several good reasons, that
wonderful love turned sour and I walked away. My parents
and godparents did not, though. They held onto the idea
that this was the man for me. No matter how much I tried to
tell them that it was wrong, over, done with, finished,
kaput, they carried my torch for me.
Eventually, I succumbed and married a man to whom I was now
completely indifferent. One wonderful son later, I was on
my own, having experienced many kinds of pain. Of course,
by then, the marriage had been "all my idea" and I "should
have known better". At least, that's what the parents said.
Oh, and along with it, "We never really liked him in the
first place!" Sound familiar?
But, now, I'm wiser. I make my own decisions and my own
mistakes. The mistakes may sting, but, at least, they are
mine! And, I learn from them. That's what makes them
worthwhile.
I understand that I have complete responsibility for the
decision-making AND the consequences. This calls for both
clarity and courage. I must know what it is that is
important and significant to me and make sure that what I
value is evident and respected in my decision. No one else
can know that as well as I do.
How about you? Are you making your life-decisions based on
what is important, significant and valuable to you? There is
a huge industry with lots of money that is dedicated to
influencing your choices. Advertising suggest what will
make you feel better, look younger, get your more friends,
more money, more prestige, success...and even cause Prince
Charming to make house calls. But, is it right for you?
Only you know the answer to that.
Once I read a Buddhist saying that suggested that we are
happy when we know what with dignity we can live without.
Thinking about that was a worthwhile exercise. We often
have opened too many boxes in life and never spent enough
time or gone to enough depth to savor the value. We're like
children with too many wonderful birthday gifts: very
excited about the acquisition but never exploring the
possibilities.
Have you read a personal improvement book but glossed over
the exercises? Ever taken a life-transforming course and
come home exhilarated? Many folks do and all too soon
return to their old patterns. Maybe, you've taken a
vacation and sworn to keep your commitment to health and
balance when you returned refreshed. Did you do it?
Through practice, the truth is that I make better decisions
now. How about you? Do you know what you prefer? It might
be as simple as knowing what kind of food you want to eat
right now, or which movie you want to see. More importantly,
though, it may be that you're feeling vaguely dissatisfied
or bored, or even, downright miserable. Do you know what
lights you up? What warms your heart? What feeds you? It's
your choice, your decision.
Now is the time to live your dreams. You've heard what
Goethe said: "What you can do or think you can do, begin it.
For boldness has magic, power, and genius in it." Listen.
Begin.
Whose path are you on? Hopefully, your own.

Stress And How It Affects Your Physical Body
A Few Ideas To Enhance Your Fitness Level.
PART 6 of 9
I mentioned earlier that everyone is unique...so you cannot take
on the responsibility of the other person's feelings. They have
to learn to deal with those themselves. Those are THEIR choices:
with accompanying causes and the resulting effects. They too
need to set their own boundaries. It's important to remember
that those belong to them: not to you.
And once you practice this with a bit of confidence, it's
immensely freeing! And, of course, much healthier for your body.
This is prevention at its best because it is caught right at the
source! Yes, in the short term, it will be stressful, but in the
long run, it can possibly prevent unhealthy conditions. One you
practice this conscious activity and experience practical and
positive results, it will help everyone move back to their own
corners, allowing you to be yourself. And others can be
themselves. This is the classic cause and effect, and it happens
everywhere and to everyone. It took me a long time to "get it".
Once I learned how to do this diplomatically, I felt it was time
to help them apply it to their lives. Let's talk a little more
about boundaries. It's all part of the rule-setting that goes
along with conscious decision-making and taking control. Let me
give you a negative example. (Here boundaries were in place and
discussions were had, yet the cause and effect had long-lasting
results.)

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .
----------------
His name was Hank. He was no particularly special man,
just an ordinary guy working two jobs to support his family
of a wife and three kids.
Early on in their marriage Hank and Kathy decided they
would both like Kathy to be a stay at home Mom. They really
felt they did not want to put their kids out to daycare or
to babysitters while both parents were out working trying to
earn a dollar.
That decision put pressure on both parents. Kathy
had a lot to do at home with the kids but she realized early
on she would have to do a lot of supporting and encouraging
toward Hank because they both knew his pay from one job
would not quite stretch far enough.
But then things happen. And they happened in Hank and
Kathy's life too. One thing they decided they would do when
they made the decision that Kathy would be a stay at home
Mom was that they would talk every day about where they were
and what each was doing. They realized early that busyness
would soon take the pair of them apart and cause each to
take one another for granted, making assumptions that sooner
or later would lead to things not getting done and arguments
resulting therefrom.
So the pattern of daily life was Hank would get up early
and go to his main job. He would be home for supper and then
leave for a three hour stint every week night as a help desk
advisor at an internet service company. His main job was as
a computer technician for a local firm that had a 100
computer network. Hank's second job wasn't a big step in
terms of the task, from his day job.
When one is young it is not too bad keeping up this
pace, but as the kids grew both he and Kathy wanted them to
get into organized sports or music lessons or some other
activity that would keep them being creative and off the
streets. Both parents realized that kids with idle time soon
got into trouble, besides they wanted their kids to have the
very best opportunity at life they could provide.
That desire led to the need for two cars and once that
was done it meant that getting each of the three to school,
then to hockey, music and karate lessons was somedays a very
hectic thing. Some days Kathy was double booked and on the
days when Hank had to work overtime because something came
up at work there were times when neither parent could do the
job.
This family was fortunate. Both Hank and Kathy had
parents who liked one another as couples. They often got
together to play cards or just plain visit during an
evening. It wasn't long before all the grandparents were
into the action too. They would often give the kids a hand
taking grandkids to games or appointments. That helped out a
lot.
Life remained hectic for the couple and became the more
so when the elementary school the kids attended needed
someone to supervise lunch hours. Kathy volunteered and was
surprised to learn it meant she was on a payroll. It didn't
offer too much but it did pay $100 a week, plus it helped
with the relationship with the kids. They were proud of
their Mom being a lunchroom supervisor.
When all the kids were in school that freed up Kathy's
time during parts of the day. She had a friend who was a
career woman and wasn't very good at housework. She asked
Kathy if she would clean her house for her on a weekly
basis. Kathy saw an opportunity to do so when the kids were
in school. Some days the timing would be tight but she could
make it. This paid her another $100 per week. She was now
bringing in more with her work than Hank's second job paid,
so they decided, together, that Hank could and would quit
his second job by the end of the year.
They hoped this would give Hank more time to take the
kids to their after school activities, most of which
happened during the evenings anyway.
What a relief that was to Hank. He was becoming quite
discouraged and tired with his daily grind. He had been
doing it steady for over seven years. It had done the job
for the family, but it was wearing him thin.
On the other hand, Kathy seemed to love the things she
was involved with. Even cleaning someone else's house was no
problem for her, in fact she was so good at it and so
organized, she received several recommendations from her
friend and now she was doing two houses a week.
Both parents were now adapt at prioritizing and being on
time. They found they had to be organized and fast at their
tasks because there was always another task in the day that
had to be attended to at a certain hour.
There was no question life was hectic and exhausting for
the couple. They did their best always and thankfully they
had support from their own parents.
Hank was driving home one night from work. It was near
Christmas and he was looking forward to when he would no
longer have to do his second job. He had already given his
notice to his employer.
It had snowed that day. It wasn't the dry snow of winter
in a far northern locale. It was a wet sloppy snow because
the temperature was too warm. Plus this was not a few
flakes. For some reason the snow was coming down heavy. By
the time Hank was finished that night and on his way home
the city had already received six inches of snow and it was
still falling heavy. Hank knew he would have to drive
careful, but he was also thinking about one of the problems
he was able to solve tonight for one of the company's
customers. It gave Hank an idea and his head was so excited
he was thinking about it as he was driving.
He didn't know where the car came from . . .

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Back Number: Where did we get "back number" as a name for a
person who is behind the times?
From the newspaper and magazine trade. Because each
succeeding issue of a periodical bears a consecutively
greater number, old copies are referred to as "back
numbers?.

The man told his doctor that he wasn't able to do all the
things around the house that he used to do.
When the examination was complete, he said, "Now, Doc, I can
take it. Tell me in plain English what is wrong with me."
"Well, in plain English," the doctor replied, "you're just
lazy."
"Okay," said the man. "Now give me the medical term so I can
