Is the current British Queen, Elizabeth II, related to King
George III?
Yes. She is his great-great-great-great-granddaughter. Queen
Victoria was King George's granddaughter.
What place receives the longest period of daylight on June
21?
The North Pole! Hopefully Santa and his elves get a lot done
during this period (June 21 and several weeks before and
after). The sun doesn't set then and they've got plenty of
light!

thePEBBLE will no longer be publishing on weekends.
For those of you who are steady readers I thank you for your
support and loyalty. I also ask you to understand there is
considerable commitment required to get thePEBBLE out

in my life that make that close to impossible some days.
Giving me a break on weekends will go a very long way to
relieving that pressure because it will give me some "spare" time
in which to organize.
I thank you for your continued loyalty and support.
By the way, for those of you who have not purchased the book

Squeaky-Clean Skater Michelle Kwan Is A Marketer's Dream
NY Times
Being viewed as a "goody two-shoes" apparently has its
advantages. At least that seems to be the case for figure
skater Michelle Kwan, who has never won an Olympics gold
medal but nonetheless has secured a number of lucrative
endorsement deals usually reserved for athletes who bring
home the gold. In an age when many contracts for celebrity
endorsers contain "behavioral clauses" stipulating that if
the athlete does anything to damage the brand, the company
has the right to terminate the contract, Ms. Kwan enjoys a
sterling reputation that makes her attractive to marketers.
"I never have to worry about her making a bad decision that
would embarrass us," said Dominic Ng, the chairman,
president and chief executive of East West Bank, just one of
the many companies who have signed deals with Kwan. Other
major advertisers on the list include Coca-Cola and Visa,
all of whom are hoping she will enhance her reputation even
more in her performance at the upcoming Winter Olympic in
Turin, Italy.

NBC Buys Up More Of MSNBC From Microsoft
by Wayne Friedman,
NBC UNIVERSAL HAS PURCHASED A controlling interest in MSNBC,
the all-news cable channel, from Microsoft Corp.--a move
long anticipated, as the large software company moves away
from media businesses with content. NBC will now have an 82
percent stake in the network, with the option to acquire the
remaining 18 percent after two years. NBC and Microsoft will
continue to share ownership of the network's Web site,
MSNBC.com. The NBC-Microsoft deal is a 99-year deal that
began in 1996. Since the network's launch, NBC and Microsoft
have been equal financial partners in a venture that has
struggled to grow in ratings and overall advertising. NBC
totally directed its editorial and advertising sales effort.
Despite years of debt--hundreds of millions of dollars,
according to analysts--both MSNBC and MSNBC.com are now
profitable. That occurred over a year ago, in July 2004.
MSNBC has 83 million subscribers. NBC Universal does not
break out profit and loss of MSNBC--but now as a majority
owner it will, according to business analysts.
"Now it can show up as a line item, contributing to revenue
and profit," said Dennis McAlpine, managing director of
McAlpine Associates. "It could give them a boost."
What is the channel now worth? Analysts say it's hard to
estimate. It depends on how much debt MSNBC has been
carrying. As a comparison, Hallmark Channel--which isn't as
big as MSNBC, with only 68 million subscribers--carries a
large debt portfolio, and is struggling to find buyers north
of its asking price of around $1 billion. On the open
market, MSNBC should command more money.
MSNBC takes in about $150 million to $175 million a year in
national advertising dollars, and around $200 million in
cable affiliate licensing fees, according to industry
estimates.
NBC News has been struggling in recent years to find the
right prime-time and daytime programming formula. In recent
years, conditions actually became worse when Fox News
Channel overtook CNN. Recently, CNN launched a rebranded
Headline News, which began to make further inroads into
MSNBC.
MSNBC's third-place position in recent months now became a
fourth-place spot. MSNBC did make some rating gains last
year--during the Presidential race--from coverage of the
Republican and Democratic national conventions.
Executives have contemplated that NBC, as a majority owner
of MSNBC, might alter the network--possibly even changing
the name because the "MS" of MSNBC stands for Microsoft.
"Now they might switch to something else," said McAlpine.
While programmers of fully distributed networks have done
this in the past--TNN converting to Spike TV; Fox Family
turning into ABC Family--executives warn that cable carriage
agreements generally prevent media owners from changing
content overnight without permission of cable operators.
Microsoft has long wanted to get out of the content
business. Last year it sold Slate, its online magazine, to
The Washington Post. Now it seems to have modified that
position somewhat, as Microsoft is holding to MSNBC.com.
Recent positive results point to a growing industry-leading
business--more so than the MSNBC cable network side of the
business.
"Together, Microsoft and NBC Universal have grown MSNBC.com
to the No. 1 news site," said Bruce Jaffe, Corporate Vice
President of Microsoft, in a statement.
In November 2005, MSNBC.com drew 22.3 million unique
visitors--which the company says for the tenth straight
month, topped all other broadcast and cable news Web sites
including CNN.com, according to Nielsen//NetRatings. Since
March 2005, MSNBC.com has averaged 24 million unique
visitors, more than the combined unique visitors of
ABCNews.com, CBSNews.com, and FoxNews.com.

Anatomy And Physiology (A&P)
The Make Up Of Your Body And
How It Functions
PART 1 of 9
I love the idea how police are trained to detect counterfeit
money. They are taught to recognize it by spending the vast
majority of their time seeing and feeling the legal bills. Once
they become familiar with the good ones, they are innocently
introduced to the counterfeit bills. These are now easy to spot.
The student is now confidently recognizing the real ones and the
fake ones stand out. Why is this important? How can you fix
something if you don't know how it works or what it is supposed
to do?
You want to learn the truth about your body. What it's all about
(anatomy). How it's meant to function (physiology). Once you put
this information together, it will then be much easier to
recognize "ill" or negative results. Your corrective action will
present itself. Be confident in its functions. In the vast
majority of people, the vital organs are of similar size. They
are definitely of similar actions or behaviors. So consider
yourself normal and learn to use this information. It can make
your life either very, very good or very bad. The choice is
yours and no one else's. So often we blame others for our
results. But in our bodies, the only person who can possibly be
responsible is that individual. No one forces you to drink a
super sugar-loaded drinks or high salt content fries. Someone
may cajole or shame you, but you do the swallowing. Let me
encourage you to at least become aware of this "distinction". As
part of this anatomy and physiology "lesson", I am also
mentioning the connection to the aging process and how it
differs from the degenerative process. These are important
issues to learn and then to apply if you wish to live a healthy
lifestyle.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.
The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.

"Oh, my gosh!" Kathy was suddenly reminded of how
inhospitable she had been. "Yes, certainly. Forgive my
manners. You have taken us by complete surprise. We had no
idea what to expect. Who are you?"
The room was filled with love and peace. Hank and Kathy
could feel it. There was no air of threat and they felt warm
and comfortable.
"My name is Tim Henry. This is my wife, Sharon. We live
in a small town called Pinehill, Pennsylvania. I know you
think Denver is a very long way from Pennsylvania, but as we
travel it is not. But, please, don't let things like that
worry you. Let us please just sit back and enjoy the visit
and Sharon and I will explain. When we are done you will
have a much better idea of what has happened to you both.
All will be well, I assure you."
"O - okay?" Kathy was perplexed, as well she might.
"Would you like a cup of coffee?"
"Certainly, that would be great, please."
Kathy went to get the coffee.
Sharon got up and walked into the kitchen. "You know, at
home we do most of our heavy talking over the kitchen table.
I know you and Hank do, too. Shall we call the guys into the
kitchen?"
"Sure, that would be okay." Kathy poured coffee for
everyone.
Sharon called the guys into the kitchen. Hank and Kathy
sat on one side of the table and Tim and Sharon on the
other.
"You surprised us by appearing in our living room. We
thought you might have rung the door bell and come in the
house that way."
"Kathy, we are going to tell you how it is possible to
live according to the rules of your Maker. Those laws permit
one to have dominion over all things. It was important we
introduce ourselves in a way that causes your mind to be
open and querying. The things that have happened to you, to
bring you back from the results of that accident are all
things that can happen when one lives by the rules of their
Maker. We are not here speaking of church or religion. That
has nothing to do with it. We are speaking of living
according to the rules and laws our Maker has laid out for
all men."
"I'm not sure I understand." Hank was perplexed.
"Hank, Jesus a very long time ago told man to seek the
kingdom of God first and that in so doing all the things you
want or need would be given you. Man has not successfully
done that, except for a very few. When one lives by what we
call higher law, the spiritual laws Jesus told us about,
then all things are possible. That is how you were called
back from death, Hank. That is how you were pulled from the
car and that is how you were transported to the bush by the
side of the road. No you didn't leave tracks, Hank. You were
set down there. You, too, can do this if you make the choice
to live by your Maker's laws. The choice is for every man to
make and it is available to all men."
"Are you saying I can do these things, and so can
Kathy?"
"Yes, Hank. That is what I am saying. Sharon and I have
come to talk about those laws and to show you the way. We
are not here to force you, but to give you knowledge so you
can make choices on your own."
"You said you were asked to come help us. Are there more
of you?"
"Yes, Hank, there are thousands around the world. All
are doing the work of our Maker. This work with you is only
one example. It is our job to work with man to help him out
of difficulties and show him the way. Yet we cannot make
promises or 'sell' the concept. Man can only come to his
Maker on his own and alone. If we were to cause you to do
this, without your making any commitment it would do you and
us harm. Yet you cannot make choices if you do not know
there are choices that can be made. So we came to show you
what is possible and to show you the way. Then, if you wish,
you can make the choice to live your Maker's way. Or you can
decide to go on with life as you were. Those choices are
yours. Be not suspicious. Please relax and simply look. We
ask nothing of you, nothing."
"Why do you do this?"
"Kathy, we have been blessed to find the way. Each of us
had to make a decision just as you will have to make that
same decision when we are done. When you have all there is
to have or need, then all that is left is to help mankind.
It gives us great joy to help out in time of need. It is
just that simple, Kathy. Those to whom much is given, much
is expected."
That seemed to satisfy Kathy. It made sense to her.
"Why us?"
Tim smiled. He was getting all the usual questions.
"Because you were in trouble, Kathy. Hank was killed in that
crash. What would your life be like without Hank, and his
income?"
"I don't even want to think about that. It would be
terrible. I don't think I could make it."
"Yes you would, Kathy, but it would have been very
difficult, but it would have been worse on the kids. They
would not have understood and their lives would have been
changed dramatically, some of it not to the good."
"So we came to help. I called Hank back from death,
pulled him from the car and then you know the rest. Hank
himself told you he was dead."
"How can that be. How can you call someone back from
death. That is God's business."

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Dark Horse: How did the phrase "dark horse" get its present
meaning?
At one time it was the practice among racing men for the
owner of a well-known horse to dye its hair in order to get
better odds. Such horse became a "dark horse" since you
can't make horse hair lighter by dying it.
