Why do wedding guests throw birdseed instead of rice now?
The custom of throwing rice at the bride and groom at
weddings has been largely replaced in the US with the
throwing of birdseed instead. But the trend has nothing to
do with the myth that uncooked rice causes birds' stomachs
to explode. Birds can eat uncooked rice without the rice
swelling in their stomachs and exploding (how many exploded
birds have YOU seen?). The hardness of uncooked rice isn't a
problem either. After all, birds will swallow gravel and
stones! But birds don't really LIKE uncooked rice and
they'll usually leave it alone. Throwing birdseed makes the
church custodian's job easier. Czech newlyweds, by the way,
get peas, instead of rice or birdseed, thrown at them. The
custom of throwing anything at all originates in pagan times
and it's supposed to ensure that the union of the bride and
groom is a fruitful (i.e. fertile) one.
Why are wedding rings worn on the fourth finger of the left
hand?
Engagement and wedding rings are worn on the fourth finger
(third, if you don't count the thumb) on the left hand
because it was believed in ancient times that the vein of
love led straight to the heart from that finger.

Is Your Inner Critic Working Over-Time?
Do you have an Inner Critic who seems to always be on duty?
It is that voice that sounds so sure and authoritative as it
tears at your self-esteem and whittles away at your
self-confidence. You can actually look spectacular, healthy
and fit and it will fixate on the part of your body you like
the least. Sound familiar?
It is not the exact words that this voice utters that
matter. It is the quality of the energy behind the
words...and it is often not positive. Interestingly enough,
the voice is usually not telling the truth. In fact, it is
not even close to being based in reality. It is such a
strange phenomenon. A hundred people could tell you that
you look terrific today, and that one lonely, miserable
Inner Critic can cause you to decide that all one hundred of
those folks are wrong! When you look at it that way, it
seems ludicrous, doesn't it?
Let me tell you a story from my own life. From the time I
was nine years old, I was told that I needed to diet,
change, do more, do less, reach, settle, conform, stretch.
The message from my folks was that no matter what I did I
would never be good enough. Sound familiar again? Once I
was an adult, the content of that message shifted from my
weight to my career and mothering ability, but the outcome
was the same--no matter what I did I would never be good
enough. If I paid attention to my career--and, as a single
mother of three, there was no choice if we wanted to eat--my
parents insisted that I was not giving my children enough of
my time. If I paid attention to my children, I was wasting
my life being a mother. What a Catch-22! My parents were
invested in control. Making it impossible for me to "win"
allowed them to think they were in control. Fortunately, I
saw their game when I was seventeen and gave their opinions
less weight than they thought. Or, at least, that is what I
thought!
At forty or so, I was making photograph albums for my three
children. As I went through all the photos from my parents'
home and mine, I found myself in tears. Why? Because, in
looking at forty years of photos of me, I could see no
evidence of the person they described when I looked at
myself. The person in those photos was just fine just the
way she was. And yet, that Inner Critic had been
well-informed with those repeated messages. My tears were
for the early years of striving to gain the approval of
folks whose opinions I really did not value. I tell that
story because I know it is a common one. Fortunately, at
age nineteen, Maxwell Maltz and I became friends through his
books. Everything changed!
If your Inner Critic has way too much to say, consciously
turn it off. When it begins, change the channel to one that
is supportive, one that encourages you to live fully,
stretch and grow--all on your own terms. You can do this!
REMEMBER, WHAT YOU PAY ATTENTION TO EXPANDS!

Who Can Get This Condition? And how does it happen?
Anyone can get this.male or female, and any age. We work with
children as young as four and five and old as 88 & 92!
Treatments
Traditional treatment includes giving a diuretic: a drug that
draws off excess fluid (feeling of fullness). It will most
likely include a low salt diet...again to prevent fluid
build-up. It will often include a drug to alleviate or prevent
the vertigo or dizziness. And often it will include something to
help the person relax or lessen their fears of facing the
unpredictability of the symptoms. Because sufferers are willing
to help each other in a somewhat hopeless situation, many
"unusual" remedies are surfacing. One of the more hopeful ones
includes a certain complete and balanced group of nutritional
supplements as recommended by medical doctors. They are
achieving surprisingly good results. Essentially they are
providing appropriate nutrients to the body to help itself.
Why does it return after a long period of peace and confidence
that it has gone for good?
There is some thought, and ultimate hope, that an underlying
inflammatory reaction is occurring to create pressure on one or
both of these nerves. If this is real, then it follows that
finding and dealing with this process could eliminate these very
debilitating and unpredictable symptoms.

Belligerence and Stupidity Go Hand In Hand
I hope and trust you each had a perfect Christmas. In my
family it was a terrific time of love, peace and good will.
I see the world goes on its merry way, Christmas or not. The
world’s medical community is acting as if it is really
scared the “bird flu” is going to get loose. They are now
making predictions that between 62 million and 80 million
could die if this thing ever gets loose. They are no less
concerned over TB either. Apparently there is a mutated
version out there that is already killing people around the
world by the thousands.
North Korea, of course, remains belligerent. They receive
more food aid than anywhere else in the world and all they
do is sell it to their countries rich. They are insisting on
getting more and, wouldn’t you know it, if not they will
continue their weapons development program. This is one
loose cannon who one day will cause the world much grief.
Iran promises to be another. The sanctions imposed upon them
by virtue of a UN resolution has caused them to become stiff
necked and belligerent.
So it seems SNAFU (Situation normal, all fouled up)

The vet shook his head sadly and explained." If you
had taken my word for it, it would have been $50, but
with the lab test and the cat scan, it's extra.
