--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Where do we get the phrase "sea change" and what
does it mean?

Shakespeare coined the phrase (as he coined many,
many words and phrases). The phrase, found in
"The Tempest," refers to a radical or profound change
or transformation in the nature of something, much like
something submerged under water for a long period
is radically changed.

Is it true that cockroaches can live up to a month
without their heads?

If someone cuts YOUR head off, it's a big deal. But a
cockroach can just shrug his shoulders (assuming he
had them) and move on. Cutting off a roach's head doesn't
have to kill him right away, because he doesn't have the
blood pressure you do, and he won't bleed to death from it.
Roaches also don't need their heads to breathe. However,
since the roach cannot eat anymore, or figure out where
he's going, he probably won't last more than a few weeks.

Broadband Likely To Broaden With Price War
By Ross Fadner, Staff Writer
Friday, January 30, 2004
Broadband Internet service providers had a great year in
2003. U.S. broadband usage surged more than 25% in 2003
to 21.5 million, or about one-fifth of all households,
according to a new Jupiter Research report, "The DSL
Market Opportunity: Closing the Gap with Cable Modem
Providers." Jupiter believes that greater competition in
the broadband landscape could result in increased DSL
adoption and lower monthly prices for the high-speed,
always-on, cable and phone line services.

Super Bowl Poll: Game Beats Ads
By Paul J. Gough, Staff Writer
Friday, January 30, 2004
It may be TV advertising's annual center stage, but consumers
say they don't watch the Super Bowl just for the ads, although
they acknowledge they're paying more attention to ads during
the game than during the other 364 days of the year.

Boomers Target Super Bowl For 'Ad'-vocacy Campaign,
Want Advertisers To Recognize Older Consumers
By Joe Mandese
Editor, MediaPost
Friday, January 30, 2004
In what has to be one of the most surprising attempts by an
advocacy group to influence how people are depicted in
mass media, a group representing what is perhaps the largest
of all "minority" groups--U.S. Baby Boomers-will utilize the
Super Bowl in an effort to get Madison Avenue to rethink how
it creates and targets ads for older people.

All sorts of interesting little tidbits today. It "sorta" shows
what is going on around the net. As I see it the broadband
thing is setting up to cause the internet to become so
useful and fast it really will "disappear" as we heard in
an article a while back. It will disappear in the sense we
get so used to it the net will cease being "something else"
and will be used as regularly as the telephone.

COMPUTER TIPS - - -
-------------------------

Word 2002

You can use tabs to line up columns of information or
to indent paragraphs or lines of text.

Here are some other tab things

Pressing the Tab key inserts a tab "character" in your
document. That character moves the toothpick cursor,
and any text you type, over to the next tab stop.

Pressing the Tab key does not insert spaces. When you
use Backspace or Delete to remove a tab, you delete one
character -- the tab character.

Word can display the Tab character for you if you like.
It looks like a tiny arrow pointing to the right. To display
this character, choose Tools, then go to Options. Click
the View tab. Choose Tab characters from the Formatting
marks area. Click OK.

Tab stops are set at half-inch intervals on each line
of text -- unless you specify otherwise.

It helps if you have the ruler visible when you work
with tabs. Choose View, and then Ruler from the menu.

Tab is short for tabulator. It comes from the Latin
root for table, which is handy because that's what tabs
help you do: line things up into tables. Even so, Word
does have a Table command.

Drug Interactions Or Side Effects:
Not To Be Taken Lightly Or
Ignored Altogether
PART 3 of 3

I wrote an article a while back about the "rebound"
effect of certain medications. It simply means that in
some drug products, if you take more than the prescribed
daily dose, the drug works against you! All these drugs,
taken independently, look pretty innocent. You can
probably tolerate the side effects without too much
trouble. But taken in groups, they pose a potentially
serious problem.

I honestly don't know who to send you or my friend to,
except the Medline link. You must do some very
detailed research for yourself. It is the same caution
I give for surgical consents. Read ALL the possible
side effects and complications. If you can live with
them, go ahead. But if they are too debilitating, you
MUST ask for more information and a second
opinion.

By law, this information has to be included. Someone
has to have ended up with these negative results.
For instance I spoke with someone tonight who had
a surgical procedure for which the surgeon gave her
a 90% success rate. So 10% of the people who had
this surgery had a failure. If this is you, can
you live with being one of that 10%?

It's the same with drugs. Someone has to have these
side effects. Or interactions. In my friends' case, all
her drugs had similar warnings, yet she was prescribed
all of them. Then I realised why the last drug, the
newest one, was prescribed. Why she wasn't taken
off any, I don't know. I used to send people to their
pharmacist for a "profile", but I don't think they are
doing those any longer.

One of my students printed off 9 PAGES of fine print
for her medical condition. Needless to say, she didn't
understand most of it despite having a medical
terminology background.

The other sad thing I notice, no one offers any
non-drug treatment suggestions. My friend has
sinus congestion. It would be very easy to show her
how to clean them quickly and without drugs. Here
is a copy of this article if you want to try it.

mailto:sinusclear@rr-email.com

So in the end you are the one person who has your
own interest at heart and health. Please read
everything you can about your condition(s). Ask
detailed questions. Write out all the drugs you are
on and side effects, including any you may be having.

Make it as easy as possible for your medical
practitioner to give you the best service possible.
It may seem a bit "redundant" if you have a great
specialist, but hopefully they won't mind. And really
appreciate those doctors who know your pharmaceutical
history. But do start to take full responsibility for your
own health and that of your family. Drugs have a very
important role to play in our lives, but they should not be
fooled with or taken for granted.

What did I finally do with my friend? I sent a lot of
information of my "discoveries" to her family and
suggested they study this with her. Then, if they could,
to please go with her to her next doctor's visit. Hear
what is being suggested. If another drug is to be part
of the discussion, ask for interactions and possible
side effects, and how this would fit into her present
medical profile.

Most people don't believe there is "power" in taking
someone to your appointments. There is. Use it.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.

Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.

The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.

The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Reno had come to Riata's invitation. She was now with
Riata and Eloise. The baby had awakened and the ladies
were fussing over it. Eloise put the child in a blanket that
she was able to wrap around herself, and they decided to walk
down to the river to meet the men.

Reno was amazed at the view as she cleared the forest
and stepped onto the sand of the river beach. The
panorama was wide and included the bright sun, the river
as a wide expanse, and the lush green forest. Then there
were the three men walking back to the beach. Somehow
that seemed perfectly natural to Reno.

"Hi Reeny. Isn't this a wonderful place? I never knew so
much more was available to us when we lived by higher
law. This is terrific." said Amenti as the men approached
the ladies.

"Sure is Am, it's wonderful." answered Reno.

The ladies had been speaking with Reno much in the same
way as the men had been speaking with Amenti. Both
newcomers to higher law were getting accustomed to
their responsibilities.

"You know what, you guys? The other day I had a call to go
help a girl in Australia. She, too, decided to live by higher
law, but I haven't been back to see her since. It is time I went.
How would you two like to come with me?" she asked
Amenti and Reno.

They both agreed and after saying their goodbyes they
vanished.

They reappeared in that instant in a small town outside
Sydney, Australia, in the home of Sandra Geddes.

Their appearance gave Sandra a start, for a second.
"Oh! Hi Riata, how are you?" she said.

"I'm fine Sandra, and you?"

"I'm fine." Sandra answered.

"I brought two friends of mine over to meet you. This is
Reno and this is Amenti. They have each committed to
living by higher law, just this day. There was an incident
at the orphanage in which I was involved, that triggered
their decision. I thought we would come visit you and
see how you are making out in your new
state." said Riata.

"I'm doing just great. I have been spending some
time with Sadhu and he has been showing me lots
of things. I am so glad I made the decision to live by
higher law, I haven't thought even once about going
back to the old way. This is wonderful. I sure hope you
kids keep it up too." said Sandra.

"We will Miss Sandra. We will." responded Reno.

"I am glad you are working with Sadhu. The first few
days are pretty important. You did not give me a call,
so I left you alone. I am happy to see your
resourcefulness." said Riata.

"Well, Riata, as you know, I now have all the information
in the world available to me. I want for nothing, I need
nothing, The financial pressure is removed from me
and I am learning and enjoying. All in all it is wonderful.
I don't think she told you, but one dark and stormy night
Riata saved me from walking over a cliff and getting
killed." said Sandra.

"She is always doing stuff like that." said Amenti.

"Enough talk. Come. Sit down and lets have a little lunch
and coffee. You two drink coffee?" Sandra asked.

The three of them sat down at the kitchen table while
Sandra busied herself with preparing a lunch.

The conversation was going on all the while. "I am thinking
of shutting down my shop in Sydney." said Sandra, "I have
no need of it and I want to concentrate on any duties and
challenges I may receive as a result of higher law."

"You will get them. It is wonderful to be able to help out
those in need. By the way, my sister has set the date for
her wedding and wanted me to ask you to attend. Will
you be able?" asked Riata.

"Most certainly. I would even think about missing it."
answered Sandra.

"You will meet many of higher law. There will be many
coming. You will enjoy it very much." said Riata, "Nearly
all the kids from the orphanage will be there. Many are
participating in the wedding."

HA! HA! HA!

A drunk stumbles along a baptismal service on
Sunday afternoon down by the river.

He proceeds to walk down into the water and stand
next to the preacher. The minister turns and notices
the old drunk and says, "Mister, are you ready to
find Jesus?"

The drunk looks back and says, "Yes, Preacher,
I sure am."

The minister then dunks the fellow under the water
and pulls him right back up. "Have you found Jesus?"
the preacher asked.

"Nooo, I didn't!" said the drunk.

The preacher then dunks him under for quite a bit
longer, brings him up and says, "Now, brother, have
you found Jesus?"

"Noooo, I have not, Reverend."

The preacher in disgust holds the man under for
at least 30 seconds this time, brings him out of the
water and says in a harsh tone, "My God, man,
have you found Jesus yet?"

The old drunk wipes his eyes and says to the
preacher... "Are you sure this is where he fell in?"
