Who was "Piltdown Man" and why was his skull famous?
In 1912, the first of two skulls believed to represent the
"missing link" between man and apes was found. Called
"Piltdown Man" because it was found in the Piltdown
quarry in Sussex, England, the skull was reexamined in
1953 by scientists who determined it was a fake - the skull
of a man combined with the jawbone of an orangutan.
Who perpetuated the hoax? No one knows, though ONE
theory is that the famous author of the Sherlock Holmes
mystery books, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, was responsible.
Do snakes lay eggs or give birth to live young?
Both. Most snakes (about 70 percent) lay eggs. Tree-dwelling
snakes, for instance, find their young too heavy to carry, so
lay eggs. However, some snakes, especially those living
in cooler climates, give birth to live young. For those snakes,
laying eggs doesn't work so well, because the cooler climate
makes it harder for them to develop properly. Giving birth
to live young is also common among some terrestrial
snakes in warmer climates.

ARE YOU A PLAYER, SPECTATOR
OR A BENCH-WARMER?

It is so common to write goals that I'll bet there are very few
people who do not know how. I'll also bet, though, that there
are thousands of people who are diligent goal-setters who
seldom become goal-getters.
Why is that? Why do we quit on ourselves? We talk a good
game and then sit on the bench. Sometimes, we even give
up the uniform and become a spectator at other people's
games. An armchair quarterback! We have great advice for
others that we seldom heed for ourselves. Have you noticed
how much easier it is.and more brilliant you are..when you're
watching someone else's game?
The sad thing is that there are far more bench-warmers
and spectators than players. Of course, that's not unusual,
but, goal-getting is a game everyone can win! It's a waste
not to play. You deprive yourself of exercising your potential,
your imagination and your wings!
Want to make sure you stay in the game? There are four
important tactics in the Goal-Getter's Handbook:: self-esteem,
procrastination, risk and focus. These will have you on the
field and winning the game every week.

SELF-ESTEEM
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
In some games, height, weight, strength or talent play a large
part in your ability to play. The great news about the game of
life is that you can achieve no matter what your size or
ability. It's simple to learn and all it takes is persistence.
Of course, you cannot win if you're talking trash. Sure, you've
got good manners. You don't talk trash to the others players.
But, are you talking trash about yourself in your head? If so,
STOP! Your first step to being a first string player is to
believe you deserve to win. That's the key.
It's a head game. First, you believe it is possible for you.
Then you see it already done. Visualize. And, then you
go and do it!
The writer, Ray Bradbury, said it this way, "First you jump off
the cliff and build your wings on the way down." You have to
believe that you are a 'wing-grower' before you jump. Trust
me, you are.
Until you are willing to put on the uniform of a winner, you'll
only be a cheerleader at someone else's game..and, likely,
resenting it all the while. You deserve to play!

PROCRASTINATION
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
According to that brilliant philosopher, Anonymous,
procrastination avoids boredom. One never has the feeling
there is not something important to do. And, as a bonus, you
can feel guilty, too. Terrific!
Strangely enough, procrastination is related to self-esteem.
You keep putting off your own good and sabotaging your
success. What a way to keep yourself small!
Overcome procrastination by taking one action step every
day on each of your five major projects. That's all. Just one
action step.
The productivity guru, David Allen, defines a project as
anything that requires more than one action step. You get
stuck when you try to think about taking more than one
action step. You get overwhelmed by all that needs to be
done. So, you do nothing. The problem is that that course
of action also gets you nothing.
Think of basketball. You know that you're going to need a
whole lot of points to win the game. But, you can only take
one shot at a time
So, write one project at the top of each piece of paper.
Write the next action step required beneath it. Take that
one simple action step. Return to paper and write the next.
Do it. And, so on. You can do one thing easily.
Make sure you're on the floor steadily taking one shot
at a time. Keep practicing.

RISK
^^^^^^
Scary? For some, even the thought of risk sends them to
bed with the covers pulled over their heads.
If that is you, remember that there are degrees of risk. You
get to decide the size of risk that is a stretch for you. You
just need a gentle stretch to grow. It is not necessary to
leave family, home and country, bound across the world,
learn a new language or two, and sleep on tree platforms.
Just do one small thing that makes you a little bit
uncomfortable. Work up to it!
You've heard the adage: Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Well, it's true. Do nothing, get nothing. What are you waiting
for? No one can take your shot for you.
Once you're in the game, you'll forget about the spectators.
You 'll forget about your fear. You'll get out there and play
the game. Sure, it requires gumption. For some people,
just suiting up is a big step. Do it. Then, take the next step.
Show up and declare that you're a player.
Step up. Step Out. Place both feet firmly in mid-air. Just do
it, as Nike says.

FOCUS
^^^^^^^^
No matter what your game, you know how to score. That
ball has to go in that goal, over that line, into that basket.
Keep your eyes on the prize. Never lose sight of it. When
your glasses fog up or your eyes close, re-focus.
You have to know what you want. Be like Michael Jordan,
the great basketball player. He was cut from his high school
team. Vince Lombardi did not become a coach in the NFL
until he was forty-seven. Both these men kept their eyes
on the prize. They knew who they were, what they could do,
and, most of all, what they wanted. Focus and persistence
won the game for them.
So, where are you in the game of life? Sitting in the
bleachers? Warming the bench? Cheering for the players?
Or, scoring big-time? It's your choice. Be a player!

Your Skin: A Really Close
Friend Under Scrutiny

What I am giving you here is general medical knowledge
and it's not to diagnose yourself. It is for you to recognize
normal skin and it's function so you can question anything
you feel might be out of the ordinary. If you aren't sure or
have questions, always ask your health care professional.
Skin is the major part of the "Integumentary System..... It means
a covering and it covers all of you, plus it includes hair, nails,
and glands: both sweat and sebaceous. Your skin is the
largest organ of your body. One of it's major function is to
give you form and hold you together. The oxford dictionary
definition is the flexible, continuous covering of the human
body (or other animal.) (My sense of the ridiculous is starting
to perk up here! What would I look like without my skin?? It
defies description!) I am not going to discuss skin colour.
That is pigmentation and has little if anything to do with the
anatomy or physiology of the body. However there are spots
on skin (which will be described later on) that, if they are
seen to be changing in colours, pigmentation, or texture,
which MUST be reported. Apart from holding us together
and giving us form, why else do we need skin? Basically
it protects us from injury and infection. It regulates body
temperature ands responds to sensory perceptions. And
it is also used for some waste elimination.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

The light very slowly subsided.
Eloise whispered, "Thank you." for she knew what Sien
had done. His blessings were especially wonderful.
Eloise put the child to her breast and fed her.
The three of them continued their talk. When Aniata
had finished her meal the three of them decided to go
for a walk.
It was not long before they met Boolanga, who, spotting
Sien, came running up to meet him. "Hello Sien! How are
you. I haven't seen you for a long while. You must have
been very busy!" he said.
"Hello Boolanga. It is nice to be with you again. All is
well with you, I trust." said Sien.
"All is well. How long will you be with us today?" asked
Boolanga.
"You know, I have never attended one of your nightly fires.
I would like to do that if you will permit." said Sien.
"Of course, of course. You will be a most welcome guest.
Excuse me a minute while I run an errand. I will be right
back." said Boolanga.
He disappeared into his hut. There he spoke with Karmuz
telling her of their visitor and advising of how important
or special a guest he was. Karmuz knew what to do.
"But, for the moment, please come with me and meet him.
He was a big help to me and my learning higher law. You
will like him." said Boolanga.
Karmuz agreed and the pair of them left the hut and made
their way to Sien.
"Sien, I want you to meet my wife Karmuz." said Boolanga,
introducing her to Sien.
"Hello Karmuz. It is nice to meet you. Boolanga talks about
you often. At least he did when I spent some time with him
some years back. It is nice to finally meet you." Sien held
out his hand.
Karmuz took his hand and was immediately imbued with
deep love. She knew and understood this, as her husband,
Mazunta, Eloise and David all were the same. She accepted
it with pleasure.
Karmuz excused herself and set about her task.
Sien observed that within thirty minutes all the village women
were busy getting ready for the evening fire.
They, now four, with Boolanga, walked over to David's hut.
David, as you might imagine was not there but at work at the
carvings. They said hello to Mae and Pam, who already knew
Sien was visiting, and proceeded toward the beach.
"Hello David." said Sien.
"Sien. Hello. It is nice to see you again." said David.
"It is my pleasure my friend. You have made big changes
since I saw you last. Welcome to our world David." Sien
walked over to David and gave him a hug.
"It took me long enough, Sien. It was all that training I received
as a kid that I allowed to keep me from seeing the truth. It was
not until I lived here for a year or so that my mind slowed down
enough to see the truth. That veil, that simple truth of spiritual
power, can be a brick wall for most people. It takes a certain
level of faith to see through enough to make a commitment
to live by higher law. I was, of course, aided by my good
friends, yourself included. Thank you." responded David.
"None of us did anything David. It was you who made the
choice and commitment. It was you who said 'Yes' and
followed through. Just as with any person, it is a private and
individual thing." spoke Sien.
"What are you working on here?" asked Sien.
David took Sien and introduced him to the men working at
the site. He showed him the present carving and spoke of
the new idea. "We all thought it would be good for trading."
said David.
"I'll bet it will. It looks beautiful. I have seen your work on the
canoes and they are very lifelike. You have a good talent. I
also respect your working method, that of working with your
men, rather than using higher law. Good thinking." said Sien.
Sien left the work site, David with him. Now all five of them
walked down to the beach and sat down. Little Aniata stirred,
but then fell back to sleep.

How to Build a Campfire
16 Easy to Do Steps (Follow in order):
Split dead limb into fragments and shave one
fragment into slivers.
Bandage left thumb.
Chop other fragments into smaller fragments.
Bandage left foot.
Make structure of slivers (include those embedded
in hand).
Light Match.
Light Match.
Repeat "a Scout is cheerful" and light match.
Apply match to slivers, add wood fragments, and
blow gently into base of fire.
Apply burn ointment to nose.
When fire is burning, collect more wood.
Upon discovering that fire has gone out while out
searching for more wood, soak wood from can
labeled "kerosene."
Treat face and arms for second-degree burns.
Relabel can to read "gasoline."
When fire is burning well, add all remaining firewood.
When thunderstorm has passed, repeat steps.
