What (now extinct) bird was the only parrot native
to the United States?
There once was a parrot indigenous to the United
States. The Carolina Parakeet (a parakeet is a small
parrot) ranged from the Ohio Valley to the Gulf of Mexico.
The bird had a yellow head with a scarlet mask
around the bill and green body feathers. Unfortunately,
the parakeet was considered a pest by farmers
because of the damage the birds did to corn and
fruit trees. They were also prized as pets. Like the
Passenger Pigeon, the Carolina Parakeet was
hunted to extinction.
What was "Decoration Day"?
That's the name "Memorial Day" was originally known
by. It was a time set aside to honor U.S. Civil War dead
by decorating their graves (often with flowers or flags). The
holiday was instituted in May 1868 specifically to
commemorate Civil War soldiers. It has since grown to
honor all those who have sacrificed their lives in
service to their country.

Comcast/Disney Deal

Agency execs freely admitted to being blown away by
Comcast's surprising and not-so-friendly offer to acquire
Walt Disney Co., but quickly turned their attention to the
potentially broad implications of the deal--broadband,
that is. With more than 20 million subscribers, media
buyers said the coupling of Comcast's distribution with
Disney's content could be a catalyst for driving a
broadband video marketplace.
It seems the Comcast/Disney thing is continuing to stir
up a great deal of discussion. The ramifications of this deal
are huge and will affect all of us.
In fact, it could change the way we think of the internet.
Comcast is known to be a very aggressive organization.
They will do what they can to capture market share. One
of the ways of doing that is to provide the "sparkle and
glitter" business, not necessarily anything of substance.
Nonetheless you can be that will capture the imagination
of those who do not use the internet for business.
In other words it will continue to create a normal brick and
mortar business's biggest competition - time fragmentation.
Time fracturing will continue to take many folks away from
supporting local businesses and keep their attention on
the "sparkle and glitter". It is much the same thing as folks
having fun by sending out internet "greeting cards" or the
kind of thing you must pass on so you don't break any
"magic" chain.
That is why it is so important for all businesses to have
a newsletter. They must keep their name in front of their
prospective audience in a way their audience sees,
knows and understands.
The internet is no longer a place to play games. It takes
away serious attention from you, and the only way you
can get it back is to talk your customer's language and
be where he is.

Salt And Potassium:
Keeping A Healthy Balance
In Your Diet

If you have been diagnosed with any kind of heart
condition, or disease, chances are that you have
been put on a low salt diet... told to watch your
salt intake and maybe even given a diuretic. This
is a drug intended to increase the excretion of
urine. There is another kind of diuretic that
manipulates the excretion of salt (sodium
chloride) in the urine and to a lesser extent,
that of potassium. It is not necessary to go into
great detail as to what each does. For our
purposes, we need to recognize that salt and
potassium are important in the life of someone
with suspected heart conditions. It is also a
recommendation in people with Meniere's and other
conditions. So basically you have to watch that
you are not getting too much salt, yet enough
potassium. And how much is too much or not
enough...and how do you adjust your life the
easiest way possible. We'll work with potassium
first, as we ususally deal with it last!

David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

you can interview Ben and Helen Striker as well." said Sam.
"Wow! I wondered where Chief Striker was. I might have
known he was at your place. I'll be there in fifteen minutes,
Sam. May I bring our photographer, please?" asked Darryl.
"Yes you can Darryl. We'll see you soon. Oh! By the way,
don't hang up. I am going to leave this phone off the hook
for a while. It's going crazy. Just put your phone down on
your desk, if you don't mind." said Sam.
"I'll do that for you Sam, and thank you. I appreciate your
trust." said Darryl.
Sam put the phone down without hanging up and walked
over to the table where Alewka had a fresh cup of coffee
waiting for him.
"Hi Sue! When did you get here?" asked Sam.
"I saw Ben drive up, Sam. He seemed to be in a terrible fix.
I thought I would come over here to see what was up. By
that time you had been to the hospital and back. I was
surprised to find Helen here, and Mae. It seems just like
old times here." said Sue Miles, the Henry's next door
neighbor.
"That was Darryl Sparks on the line Ben, Helen. He is
coming over for an interview. He is well aware of what
happened the last time this got out of hand and he has
promised to treat the story with the respect it deserves.
Your authority, Ben, will undoubtedly help remove the
sensationalism. I am afraid if we say nothing this could
get out of hand. But if we deal with someone as
responsible as Darryl he will help take the heat off. He
has forbidden any of his reporters to touch the story.
Only he will handle it. So I asked him over. He's bringing
a photographer."
"What did I tell you. We didn't even get a chance to get
home here, before the press is all over you." said Ben.
"Don't worry about that Ben. That is their way. We can
control it. It is better we participate some, though, rather
than nothing at all. That way, with Darryl's help we can
diffuse it some." said Sam.
"I agree. Thanks Sam." said Ben.
"Sam, I'm not so sure I want to be interviewed. I am not
a celebrity. I'm uncomfortable about all this." said Helen.
"I don't think there is much to worry about honey. Part of
the news is that you are the wife of the Police Chief. They
will only ask you questions about what happened that
put you into the hospital. You don't know any of the
rest." said Ben.
"I also don't think, Helen, that they are going to make
you the center of the story. I think it's me they are after,
and Ben is right, it may not get near the attention if you
were not the wife of the Chief of Police." said Sam.
"Oh well! If he starts to get out of hand, you two stop
him." said Helen.
Just then the doorbell rang.
"That was fast." said Sam.
He walked to the door and let in Darryl Sparks and his
photographer. "That sure didn't take you long Darryl. You
weren't speeding were you?" Sam winked at him.
Darryl Sparks laughed. "Thank you Sam for granting this.
I know well what happened last time. I actually thought I
could be of service this time. If I do a responsible job, rather
than the sensational stuff, it might take some of the heat
away. Also, and I know you will do what you wish here,
but if I am the only one granted interviews, then other
news agencies would have to come through me. That will
throw cool water on their enthusiasm. You think it
over." said Darryl.
They walked into the living room, and there sat Ben,
Helen, Alewka, Sue Miles, Mae and David Wiley.
"Hello to all of you. I'm Darryl Sparks, Publisher and Editor
of the town newspaper. This is Henry Deans, one of our
photographers." said Darryl introducing himself.
Alewka got up and invited Darryl and Henry to sit, while
she went and got them coffee.
"Well, Mrs. Striker. I hear you had quite an adventure this
morning." said Darryl.
