Why did Roman mothers take care to cover their
baby's yawns?
It wasn't good manners. It was to protect the baby's soul
from escaping. Romans feared that a yawn might permit
the soul, or life itself, to depart the body. The fact that infants
tended to die in much greater numbers than adults was
explainable, they thought, by the fact that babies couldn't
cover their mouths to protect themselves from a yawn.
How did they film King Kong atop the Empire State Building?
You can see the Empire State Building in at least 89 movies.
The most famous of them, King Kong, was filmed in 1933.
The King Kong film was made using stop motion photography
with a puppet-like King Kong, model airplanes, and a
miniature replica of the top of The Empire State Building.

It is the purpose of this column to bring information to

fortune overnight. These columns, here, are to give
you a bit of a breather and let you know what else
is happening, outside your world.
The internet is a huge place. There are many players,

January Ad Revenues Spike at NYTD (an excerpt from
Media News)
By Tobi Elkin Executive Editor
Thursday, February 19, 2004
The New York Times Co.'s digital unit said that ad revenues
for January spiked 42.3 percent compared to January 2003.
New York Times Digital reported the increase yesterday,
attributing it to growth in display advertising and in all
classified ad segments at NYTimes.com and Boston.com.
The increase comes on the heels of the digital unit's $25
million profit in the fourth quarter of 2003.

Salt And Potassium:
Keeping A Healthy Balance
In Your Diet
PART 5 of 5
How can you eat out and still stay within your
limits? Order selectively. Use pepper. Become
familiar with foods low in salt and look for them
on the menu. A heart or other symbol often
identifies foods known to be low in salt or
prepared for special cardiac diets. Restaurants
are now very aware and concerned about food
allergies. As side issue, many people have
allergies to ingredients such as MSG. It is high
in salt as well. So if you are allergic to it,
advise the manager of the restaurant. They do not
want a problem on their hands. It is perfectly
acceptable to be specific about what you want and
how you want your food prepared. Request that they
prepare your dish without salt. Use fresh lemon
juice for fish and vegetables instead of salt.
Here is a very practical site for salt
information. http://oto.wustl.edu/men/sodium.htm
Altogether, become a little daring in your meals.
Become creative in your meal preparation and
experiment. Use fresh herbs and spices to bring
out the natural flavors of food. Use lemon juice,
wine, and fresh ground pepper to accent natural
flavors. Marinade meat in orange or pineapple
juice. For poultry, use garlic, mushrooms,
cranberries, orange slices, wine, curry, paprika,
parsley, sage, and onion. For fish, use a bayleaf,
marjoram, onion, fresh mushrooms, dry mustard,
green pepper, and ginger. For pork, use
applesauce, apples, garlic, onion, sage. Use
seasoning "POWDERS" instead of seasoned "SALTS".
For example, use garlic powder instead of garlic
salt. Do not add salt or "condiments" (special
pre-packaged sauces) to your food: they could be
very high in salt. Avoid foods prepared in a sauce
unless they prepare it especially to your
requirements. Eat salad instead of soup and have
the dressing on the side. Use unsalted salad
dressing or plain oil and vinegar. "Toss" your own
salad. Have fresh fruit or fruit juice as an
appetizer or dessert. A plate of assorted, cut up,
fresh fruit is a lovely "coffee meeting" snack.
Read labels carefully. In addition to sodium,
watch out for the following ingredients that are
also high in sodium: "hydrolyzed vegetable
protein, baking powder, sodium nitrate, sodium
benzoate, salt, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda),
soy sauce, sodium ascorbate, whey solids,
monosodium glutamate (MSG or Accent)". These are
used in the foundations of food preparation and
may not be recognized as "salt".

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"Oh! Come on Darryl! Yes you will. There are so many new
things happening today, in police work, it takes a younger man
to keep up. There are plenty of good men around. I've been
training a man I think would be perfect for the job. I hope the
city fathers will think likewise." said Ben.
"And who might that be, Ben?" asked Darryl.
"I can't reveal that Darryl. You know that. Let the machinery
do it's job. You will know in due course. Let the procedure
go the way it is supposed to work." Ben replied.
Over the next few days there were many meetings with city
officials, many retirement parties and many requests for
Ben to be here or be there.
Eventually the city decided on their man, and Ben retired.
Going back a few days to the incident with Helen, the Henry
household had, again been turned into a gathering place
for all those who wanted the Henry's to heal them, give them
money, make their lives better, or do anything else they
wanted. Not one in the crowds thought, even once, that they
should be dependent upon themselves. They all saw a
chance for the miracle they wanted in their lives and came
begging for attention.
The sad part about that is that if given their "miracle" they
simply find another need and come asking for another
"miracle". It never ends. Historically, people have reacted
this way to anyone who could do them favors.
The Henry's did not respond. They prevented damage to
people and property, but they did not give the people what
they asked for.
Occasionally, when Sam saw a real and genuine need he
caused that to be filled. But he did this quietly without being
seen and without fanfare. Often the person involved did not
realize until much later the need was filled. That helped
prevent any sensationalism from breaking out at the house.
Within a week things settled down, although the news media
in Philadelphia went crazy with all sorts of stories, many untrue.
David and Mae had long since returned home to the
waiting arms of Pam and the children.
"Hi Honey! I missed you today. Did you and Mom have a
good trip?" asked Pam when she saw the pair of them.
"It was eventful, Honey. How are you?" David asked.
"Hello Pam." said Mae.
"Hi Mom! I hope you enjoyed your trip." said Pam.
"Well! Yes and no." answered Mae.
"Gee, that doesn't sound so good. Tell me about it." said
Pam as David and Mae were hugging the two children.
They all sat down around the fire spot and had a beverage
as the two travelers relayed their story.
"It really seems like Eric has dropped off the deep end,
doesn't it? I'm sorry Mom. That must have been a blow. In
time it will come around. That must have been some
incident with Helen Striker. I hope she's alright." said Pam.
"She's fine Pam. Sam made sure of that. The Henry's will
have a bit to contend with for a few days, but all else is well.
I think Ben Striker is going to retire and commit to living by
higher law. He and Sam are real close, and Ben has been
thinking on these lines for a long while." said David.
"That would be great, wouldn't it. I, too have done a lot of
thinking that way. Eloise and I have been talking." said Pam.
David jumped up and went over to give her a big hug and
kiss. "Really? I didn't know. That's wonderful. Let me know
if I can help."
David knew he did not know of Pam's progress, because
he lived too close to her. In these matters it is always better
when someone not quite so close helps out. That is why
Eloise did not know Mazunta was working on living by
higher law, before they were married.
David also knew he had to stay out of it. The inclination was
to meddle, to try to direct ones thoughts, rather than allow
a person to make choices and make the approach their
way. David committed to leaving Pam alone on that subject.
"Mae, David and I and the kids love you very much. Please
feel you have done right. You have here a wonderful life,
wonderful grandchildren and things are just fine. David
tells me that Eric can reach you if he wants, but do not let
his ignorance throw a long shadow on your happiness.
Go with the flow, Mae. Stay with us and our life. You can
be happy here." said Pam, worried that Mae would be
sad for a long time over Eric.
"It is hard for a Mother to see her children do these things,
Pam. I raised him to be a better man than that. He has
taken to his Father's ways and will, I fear, pay the price for
that. David, too, took to his Father's ways and learned. I
can only hope Eric will come to his senses without paying
too high a price." said Mae.

HA! HA! HA!
The Church members were accustomed to always
answering with "And so with you" when the pastor said
the prayers. But, one day, he was having problems with
his microphone. It went something like this:
Pastor: "God bless all those with a meek spirit"
Members: "And so with you"
Then a long silence as the pastor fumbled with the
microphone to get it to work, the microphone started
working just as the pastor said
"This thing isn't working"
Members: "And so with you"
