How much does lightning heat the atmosphere?

Are birds born with the ability to sing?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

What is ball lightning?

Imagine seeing a strange glowing sphere that moves
through the air. Experts cannot explain what ball lightning
is, but it occurs during lightning storms and may be an
ordinary bolt of lightning. Witnesses who have observed
this rare phenomenon typically report the ball of light is
about the size of a grapefruit (but it may be much larger
or smaller) and that it survives for only a few seconds.
Some also report a bad smell.

What is St. Elmo's fire?

St. Elmo's fire is a luminous electric discharge that appears
on sharp projections such as steeples and mastheads of
ships during intense storms. Sailors have a superstitious
dread of it, but it is actually an explainable natural
phenomenon. Mediterranean sailors named it for their
patron saint, St. Elmo.

5 Warning Signs of a Scam Business
by Sandra Stammberger

For years now the rush has been on to mine the Internet and find
"gold." Just like miners in the old U.S. west, people flock to
the Web hoping to strike it rich. Is it possible? Sure it is!
However, those miners of old had to watch out for "fool's gold."
You - in the days of the Internet - have to watch out for scam
businesses.

Most scam business offers have five things in common. Before you
decide to invest your hard-earned money in an Internet business,
be sure to compare the offer to this list. The following warning
signs might very well help you avoid a financial disaster!

1) No Contact Information or Limited Contact Information - Most
scam artists don't want you to be able to locate them easily.
After all, if you could find them easily, so could the
authorities. That's why they often only give an email address
(usually from a free provider like Yahoo or Hotmail) and/or a
post office box. On the other hand, reputable companies DO want
you to be able to contact them quickly and easily. They'll offer
several ways... telephone, physical address, email, fax, etc.

2) No Verifiable References or Testimonials - Notice I said,
"verifiable." Anyone can make up references or testimonials that
would make you think a business opportunity is wonderful. But
can you verify them? Do they list Web site addresses or email
addresses for the people who supposedly gave the testimonials?
Is there a way to contact the satisfied customers? If not... if
you only see a reference ending with "John D. - California" -
beware.

3) Phony Association Information - Many times, we take for
granted the fact that someone offering a business opportunity is
a legitimate company just because a Better Business Bureau or
iCop logo is posted on the company's Web site. Not true! These
logos can be simply copied and pasted onto the scam artist's
site. There is a way to verify whether the company is a
legitimate member. Click the logo. If it goes to a profile of
the company (on the BBB or iCop site), you'll know this company
is an authentic member of the association.

4) "Make Thousands With No Work On Your Part" - This is the
biggest lie on the Internet today. Everyone loves the idea of
making thousands of dollars while they sleep. Is it possible?
Yes! That part isn't a lie. The statement that it will take no
work on your part is the lie. Even if the company gives you a
free Web site, free products to sell for 100% profit, and a free
shopping cart, you still have to work - and work hard! How will
people find your new Web site? You'll have to market it. That
takes a LOT of work in and of itself. Beware when people tell
you that their business opportunities take no effort from you.

5) Rushing You To Make A Decision - I'm not talking about the
product sites that offer special discounts if you buy before a
specific date. I'm talking about the business opportunity
companies that - instead of answering your questions - pressure
you to go ahead and buy in. I advise you not to trust anyone who
is unwilling to give you the information you need to make a
qualified decision. I can almost promise a scam is involved if
that is the case.

The bottom line is this: Any company offering legitimate business
opportunities will want to talk with you, will want to give you
all the information you need, will not give a false appearance of
credibility, will help you work through the financial aspects of
joining the company, and will have verifiable references that you
can contact. Beware of anyone who does not offer these things.
By keeping your eyes open for the five warning signs listed
above, you can save a lot of trouble and money.

Courage: How To Find It And Be Yourself
PART 2 of 8

It takes courage to be yourself, but you need to know
you do have the choice. I strongly believe it is very
stressful for you to go against your inner values. In
the media, some people (talk show hosts) would have you
believe your values are meaningless and you should
embrace theirs. Wrong!! You are not that person. Do you
think trying to emulate a TV star will change your
present situation? I am acquainted with a gal who
speaks about TV personalities by their first names and
feels a “connection with what they do”. That is a
little unrealistic, for me, anyway.

Here is where you start to exercise your own courage…to
unearth it...to dust it off and give it life and
meaning. But one word of caution, it might lead you to
areas that might be also be challenging. However by
that time you will have accumulated enough insight and
knowledge to make better and informed decisions. Know
that wherever you are, use that as your starting point.

Luckily we are all born as a ‘mold or vessel” to be
“filled”. We may have bodies, hair, eyebrows, and
height that are alike, but our DNA is unique. It means
you and I are probably very similar, but we are
definitely NOT identical. This alone proves we are not
alike. So your ambitions and future will be very
different than mine. Even if we are both scientists,
our characteristics will be different. Our perceptions
and all of our dreams are unique. Ironically although
we may be different or unique, we still want to be like
others in our circle of acquaintance. We still strive
to look like someone else. T-shirts, nose rings,
tattoos, hairstyles…How confusing!

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Romano kept on walking. He reached a set of
stairs in a back corner of the building. There
were no lights here. The power had long been
turned off. Even in the daytime it was dark inside
this building. He had to cause some "light" to
appear so he could manipulate the stairs. They
were always full of junk and debris. Looking back
he wondered how no one didn't trip and fall,
breaking bones and getting injured. He surmised
that all learned quickly where all the junk was
and kept that blueprint in his head.

He started up the stairs. The closer he got to
the top the more noise he heard. There was a
raucous party going on. Someone must have come
across some liquor. That was the only time there
was a party. He was at the top now and walked down
a short walkway to a door that was to an office.
Years ago, he remembered, this office was small.
But the gang, while he was leader, took some
hammers and wrecking bars and demolished walls
between two or three offices. The result was that
today the office was now a very large area where
the gang conducted their "business".

It was in this room that he was stabbed then
hauled off to the city dump like a piece of meat.
That was before he had learned higher law but was
then thinking about dedicating his life to it. He
had advised the gang and the then leader became
angry. He had gang members hold Romano while he
took his knife and proceeded to carve Romano up.
After inflicting much pain on Romano the gang
leader just gave up and drove the knife deep into
Romano's belly. The blow let out gas, fluids and
blood. People in this city did not recover from a
belly wound. Because of the heat and the filth
gangrene would set in almost immediately. That is
why the gang had taken him to the city dump.

So much for memories. His eyes once more
adjusted to light as he entered this office area.
Just like the rest of the building this place was
piled high with garbage. It smelled of rotting
food, opened beer bottles, whiskey bottles, pop
cans and sex. Yes, his eyes opened to four more
bodies over in on corner. There were three men and
one woman. It was clear she had her hands full.
All three men were demanding her attention. They
had ripped her clothes off and she was lying on
the floor while they had their way with her.

Over in another corner were five men, some of
whom Romano knew. They were playing cards and
drinking. There were all sorts of noises coming
from that table as gamblers lost a hand and some
gained a hand.

The whole combination of sights, sounds,
smells took Romano back to the days of his youth.
He was no longer proud of those days, although he
knew that at the time he knew no better, and he
had long ago forgiven himself for this kind of
foolishness.

One of the card players hollered "Romano! I
thought you were dead."

Romano walked up to the table "Thats the way
you left me isn't it Pedro? Thats the way you
wanted it wasn't it? At the time you couldn't
handle the fact that I had guts enough to get out
of this gang. That scared you big time, for you
thought you were losing control over the gang.
Well, as you can see I am very much alive and
well. I don't even have any scars where you so
bravely stuck a knife in my gullet. You couldn't
do that all by yourself though could you. You had
to have the boys hold me. You weren't man enough
to handle me all by yourself. Do you think you're
any better now?" Romano wanted to challenge him,
anger him, goad him into some reaction. He was
hoping Pedro would come at him, wanting to fight.

His plan was working. Pedro would not tolerate
being called a coward in front of gang members.
But the man had matured a little and instead of
coming flying over the table in a rage he merely
rose and walked calmly around the table and out
front to meet Romano. That was fine with Romano
for he had already place a shield of love around
him that no one here could penetrate.

Pedro walked calmly toward Romano. There was
going to be a show down. Those in the corner
playing cards left their chairs and were standing
on the sidelines waiting their chances and
awaiting commands from Pedro. The challenge that
Romano had given Pedro demanded that Pedro do his
own work.

The four people in the corner who were having
sex, also stopped what they were doing, realizing
there was going to be trouble. They all rose and
watched. All were in an assorted state of
disarray.

Romano knew he had challenged Pedro in a way
that Pedro could not overlook. Pedro had to do
something to Romano if only to save face.

HA! HA! HA!

A lady who was speeding had an officer pulled her to the side of the
road. She didn't have her seat belt on so as soon as she stopped,
she quickly slipped it on before the officer got to her window.

After talking to her about speeding, the officer said, "I see you are
wearing your seat belt. Do you believe in wearing it at all times?"

"Yes, I do, officer," she replied.

"Well," asked the officer, "do you always do it up with it looped
through your steering wheel?"
