TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

Can birds sing songs of birds from other species?

Why do migrating geese fly in a "V" pattern?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

How much does lightning heat the atmosphere?

A lot. The typical bolt of lightning heats the atmosphere
to 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Are birds born with the ability to sing?

Young songbirds appear to learn singing from their
parents or adult birds of the same species. If separated from
their species at a young age, the birds do not develop
normal song patterns and may simply produce odd
warbles.

OPTIMIZE LIFE NOW!™
with Dr. Rhoberta Shaler
---------------------

What Are You Saying And Who Is Listening?

When you speak, who is listening? This is the most important
question you need to consider if you want to change or improve
your life!

Certainly, words are important when you are talking with
another person. My point today, though, is that they are
doubly important when you are speaking to yourself. You
know--those times when you think no one is listening, no one
can hear you! A very important person IS listening. You.

The most important conversation you will ever have is the one
you hold with yourself. And, we're all very sneaky about it.
We say things to ourselves that we would NEVER say to another
person. We are too thoughtful, too polite and too concerned
with keeping the other's self-esteem intact to ever say those
things our loud, aren't we? Yet, we will say them to
ourselves.

In my keynotes and seminars, I often ask my audiences to make
me a promise. At first, they are tentative and unsure as to
the wisdom of making any promise--especially to a person they
do not know. After thirty-seconds or so, though, most folks
raise their right hands and repeat these invaluable words
after me: "I promise to never say anything about myself that I
do not want to be true, even when I am speaking to myself in
my head."

Wow! That is a very large promise with much larger
repercussions. What if you truly gave up any conversation in
your head that did not reflect the person you most want to be?
That might create a fair amount of dead air space in your mind
at first.

Many people beat themselves up, tear themselves down and
repeatedly undermine their self-esteem in a relentless way.
You've heard people make self-effacing remarks.

"Oh, I'm so stupid."

"There I go again. I always make that same mistake."

"I'm just not cut out for success."

What is the chatter in your head? If you had to record it,
would it be uplifting, affirming and inspiring? If not, the
good news is you can change it. And, changing it will change
your life.

When I wrote my book, What You Pay Attention to Expands, I
included insights and ideas on how to change your focus to
change your results. It all begins with the conversation in
your mind with the conversation.

Focus on what you want to create in life, not on past
failures. Focus on what you like about yourself, not on your
faults.

When you look at yourself in the mirror, pay attention to the
parts you find attractive. Bernie Siegel related a story
about a woman with multiple sclerosis who was quite overweight
and wheel-chair bound. She decided to learn to love her body
and daily sat naked in front of a mirror. She began with
loving her eyes and loving herself through her eyes. She went
on to be grateful for and appreciating other things about her
body until she could honestly love and accept her body as it
was from head to toe. The miracle was that she went into
remission about the same time as she came to honestly love and
be thankful for her body and how it served her.

Coincidence? Maybe. Each one of us would certainly be
healthier if we could come to appreciate the vehicle that
allows us to function in this world. Yet, we often insist on
seeing our flaws in a much brighter light than our beauty, our
shortcomings more clearly than our gifts. We measure
ourselves by some air-brushed magazine image, or some other
comparison that makes as little sense. Change that!

Take charge of the conversation in your head. Focus it to
reflect your best self at all times. That does not mean that
you are unaware of things you wish to improve, but that you
focus on the outcomes you most want. Spend no time
reinforcing the negative by giving it air-time in your head.
That's a waste of energy.

Speak well of yourself to yourself and others. It is not
arrogant or conceited to speak well of yourself. Arrogance
and conceit are only present when you compare yourself to
others and insist on your superiority.

It may seem strange at first. Keep at it. Be your own best
friend. See the good in yourself and make that the
conversation in your head. Try it. Never again say anything
about yourself that you don't want to be true! Your life will
change.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -

Courage: How To Find It And Be Yourself
PART 3 of 8

One of the most important things you will ever have to do
is to find the real “you”. Unless you have already done
this, you need to be aware that you don’t really know
yourself (or even believe this idea). However once you
trust this concept, you can start to uncover this
hidden “you”. In order to make desired changes, you
will have to develop this “personality”, uncovering
this part of you. Sounds a bit involved and scary, but
it’s really not because you grow with each stage. One
level leads you to the next. In the academic world,
this is called” personal growth” or “development”. And
we spend thousands and thousands of dollars taking
courses or workshops to learn this! But to me it’s
discovering your courage and getting on with living
your own life, having chosen the pieces of it with
conscious deliberation. This helps you to uncover the
person you are meant to be. That’s much nicer, doesn’t
it? Doesn’t this also now give you the impression that
there is more to you than you already thought you knew?
This takes courage. And wouldn’t be as exciting as
perhaps opening up the best gift you can imagine?

Think you might not like the results? I have never yet
found anyone who in the end didn’t find comfort and
confidence in their new being. All were surprised and
excited! I suspect it is because they fit in with the
newly-discovered real personality.  It’s almost like
getting permission to be yourself. This is also very
stress-relieving. Somehow just being your natural self,
lets you live in harmony with all that it
represents. Few people take the time to find this
personality. One of my favourite people was Jackie
Kennedy. I can’t imagine her allowing anyone to change
her personality. She was who she was and didn’t care if
people felt she didn’t fit in. Good role model.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Romano knew this man carried about three
knives and usually a pistol. Romano had been
shown by other masters how to handle guns, so that
did not worry him. And he knew how to handle
knives. So, as Pedro was calmly walking up to him,
Romano had already disabled all Pedro's weapons.
Pedro was now nearly at Romano who stood
quietly, in one place, and broadcast love to all
in the room.

The room was silent. All present knew there
was a nasty confrontation coming up. While not too
many present knew Romano, most knew of him. All,
however, knew Pedro.

Pedro was a man, or maybe a teenaged boy in a
man's body, with a vicious temper. He was leader
of this gang because he was the most ruthless and
led by fear. Any who went against his word paid
the price, dearly. He had several scars on his
person that were visible. He has two nasty ones on
his arms, the result of knife fights. Additionally
he had a misshapen nose that was actually
grotesque. That was a result of another malicious,
and pointless, fight. And there was a knife wound
on his face as well. It had not been properly
tended to when fresh, had taken on bacteria and
become infected for a long time before it finally
healed. It left a scar that puffed out and did
nothing to render the man more handsome. Yet that
is how Pedro wore these scars. To him they were as
important as a badge of honor. To him it qualified
him as leader of this gang. No one else in the
gang had the guts to do what he has done.

So Pedro was now at Romano. "You stupid son of
a bitch. You think you can come in here and show
me to be a fool? You think that because you live
you are tougher than me, Pedro? You haven't got
the balls to hold my drink, let alone fight. You
are a traitor, the lowest scum on earth. You are
disgusting. Your mother threw away the kid and
raised you, the afterbirth. You are not only ugly
you bring a stench into this place."

"Funny you should speak this way, Pedro. Up to
now I haven't said a thing, not even hello."

"Shut up you filthy cur. You are a mangy dog
and all these people know it." Pedro threw a punch
right at Romano's solar plexus. Romano didn't
move. The shield he had earlier put in place
caught the blow and Pedro was now holding his hand
and jumping up and down in pain.

"You asshole. You think you're tough huh? I'll
show you tough." In karate style Pedro lifted a
leg and gave a resounding kick to Romano's chest.
Romano never budged. Again his shield did the
trick. This time it did not hurt Pedro, but it did
take him off balance. Romano, remaining solid,
unmoving, meant that all the force was now
transmitted back down Pedro's leg. He went flying,
as if he had kicked a rubber ball. He banged his
head on a concrete pillar and was now bleeding.
Worse yet he felt his dignity was damaged and
he was angry.

Pedro uttered a string of expletives that
would have made a trucker blush. He stood up and
came at Romano with a knife. Romano stood there
until the last fraction of a second, then turned
sideways, allowing Pedro's strike to go right on
by. As Pedro was nearly past, Romano stuck out his
foot, tripping Pedro.

Pedro went headlong into another dive, face
first onto the floor. This was the second time he
was flat on his face in front of his gang. This
was completely intolerable. He could not have
this.

All the while Romano was calm, emitting love
and even offered to help Pedro up from the floor.

Pedro slashed at Romano's hand with the knife.
the instant it hit Romano's hand it broke in two
pieces, leaving no mark on Romano at all. Pedro
was surprised, bewildered, confused. He could not
understand what was happening. He scrambled around
on the floor and rose with the spring of a
gazelle. He now had another knife in his hand. He
moved to Romano, who never moved a muscle.

Romano's calm composure was creating a
condition that was showing Pedro's bluff and
bravado as being the most foolish of all
behaviors. Pedro was strutting like a peacock with
the ferocity of a wounded tiger. Romano was
standing there calmly and broadcasting love. There
was no sign of fear in his face, neither mocking
or laughter. In fact Romano pitied Pedro. He felt
sorry for him, remembering himself what it was
like to be here as a gang member.

Pedro swiped a fast vicious swipe with his
knife. It went right through Romano and back out
as if there was nothing there. Pedro's knife went
through Romano as if Romano was only smoke, an
image, a three dimensional hologram. Pedro swiped
again, and again, all to no avail.

HA! HA! HA!

A poor vagabond, traveling a country road in England,
tired and hungry, came to a roadside Inn with a sign
reading: "George and the Dragon." He knocked.

The Innkeeper's wife stuck her head out a window.
"Could ye spare some victuals?" he asked.

The woman glanced at his shabby clothes and obviously
poor condition.

"No!" she said rather sternly.

"Could I have a drink of water?"

"No!" she said again.

"Could I at least sleep in your stable?"

"No!" by this time she was fairly shouting.

The vagabond said, "Might I please...?"

"What now?" the woman interrupted impatiently.

"D'ye suppose," he asked, "I might have a
word with George?"
