TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

What ancient people used birds to help them navigate?

Are all bones white?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Can birds sing songs of birds from other species?

Yes. Birds can learn the songs of other birds and when
they do, they can pass the "foreign" songs onto their
offspring.

Why do migrating geese fly in a "V" pattern?

To conserve energy. When flying, the bird's wings churn the
air and leave an air current behind. By flying in a "V" pattern,
each goose is positioned to get a lift from the air current left
by the bird in front of him.

Most Businesses Overlook This
Valuable Resource. Does Yours?
by Keith Barnett

Your sales figures are sky rocketing, your employees are
at capacity, and office space is diminishing. Your business
is thriving, but you want to push forward while your market
is ripe. It's time for some more dedicated employees! The
only problem is your current office space just won't allow
it. You have your accounting department crammed in a
small, back office as it is. It's time for that larger
building you've had your eye on this past year.

Wait! There's a better and much cheaper way...

You may not have realized it, but there's a talented and
highly qualified workforce out there desiring to work for
your company. And they don't need that extra office space
you've been eyeing because they have their own. They are
hidden all across the world in the comfort of their own
homes.

Not in a million years I hear you say? There's no way you'd
hire someone you can't keep your eyes on eight hours a day?
Well, your missing out on some of the most talented and
dedicated workforce in the world today. I'm not talking
about those wanna get rich stuffing envelopes and
assembling crafts dreamers out there. I'm talking about
highly educated and qualified, career-oriented individuals
wanting to work for legitimate companies from their homes.

Not everyone wants to be crammed up in that stuffy,
overcrowded office of yours for 8 hours a day. It's
nothing new, employees have been doing this for over 30
years. However, with today's advances in technology this
workforce is growing at a rapid pace. More than you
probably know. And if you, as a business owner, refuse to
notice this valuable resource you are truly missing out on
a goldmine of dedicated, hardworking employees.

Utilizing work from home employees have proven to increase
productivity and employee satisfaction while decreasing
the expenses of high real estate costs for those business
owners willing to hire them. You'll soon learn that
telecommuting isn't about a convenience for the employee,
but a smart way for business owners to save money while
growing their business. In the next few paragraphs I hope
to convince you of this.

Four Reasons Why Your Company Should Hire Telecommuters

1. Telecommuters Save Their Employers Overhead Expenses

Because those wanting to work from their homes already have
an office, a computer and access to the internet, the
employer isn't required to provide and pay for these
services. I should note that some employer's do offer
compensation for this, but most teleworkers don't demand
it. And the internet provides many ways of communicating
with your telecommuting employees from across the globe.

By using a virtual work team, you can avoid the expense of
a larger office, along with the increase in your utility
bills, and invest that money in other areas to grow your
thriving business.

2. Telecommuters Are More Productive

There's no hanging around the water cooler talking to
colleagues about plans for the weekend in a telecommuting
arrangement. In fact, home workers tend to work harder to
prove to their employer that this working arrangement is
indeed worth it...for the both of you. Office gossip and
politics never get in the way of a telecommuter.

Full days off due to car problems and doctor visits are a
thing of the past. And those two hours spent in traffic can
be used more productively to finish up that project before
it's deadline.

Statistics show, time and time again, telecommuting
employees are more productive than their fellow in-office
associates.

3. Telecommuters Are More Dedicated Due to Higher Morale

Telecommuters are able to control their own schedules and
avoid those long, stressful commutes in heavy traffic. This
alone leads to an employee that is more loyal to you as an
employer. Therefore, you'll see a drop in absenteeism and
days needed for time off.

Recent research sponsored by AT&T has shown that employees
who telecommute can save their present employers as much as
$10,000 due to less absenteeism and increased job
retention.

4. Telecommuters Present No Geographic Boundaries

No more having to place an ad in the paper hoping the
right employee will march through your doors. And no more
expensive relocation expenses for those that qualify, but
live in another locale.

You will have the ability to pick the best talent from
across the world. This will enable you to find that
perfect employee with the right set of skills for your job
opening. You'll no longer be restricted to the talent in
your local area.

So are you convinced yet? These are only a few of the many
benefits of hiring at-home workers. According to the
American Interactive Consumer Survey, employed teleworkers
have increased from 11.6 million in 1997 to 23.5 million in
2003. The trend is here to stay and smart business owners
should tap into this valuable resource of telecommuters.

To learn more about the statistics of telecommuting take a
look at the Annual Telework America Study conducted by the
ITAC and sponsored by AT&T:

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson

Courage: How To Find It And Be Yourself
PART 4 of 8

Let’s work through some examples. Have you ever had the
thought that you would love to go fishing someday? But
time and family responsibilities prevent you even from
thinking this way…or do they? At least, for the
present, but it doesn’t have to be “for ever”.  Or you
love to fly, but can’t see how you could possible get a
license? Have you ever felt a tug at your “apron
strings” and wished you could learn to cook
professionally? Or paint? You sigh because these
possibilities seem so far out of your reach and
probably far into your future. And that in itself adds
to your stress level. If you are “normal” you would
also feel a tiny bit of resentment of being caught in
the life you chose, love to live, yet dream of doing
still more things. Those are the parts of your
personality you want to unearth. But again that takes
courage. Know that this courage is very powerful. If
nothing else, encourage your spouse or children to
develop those little hints of their hidden
personalities. Share your insight with them once you
have mulled this over. It gives them permission to live
a more confident and productive life.

The more confidence you portray to the outside world,
the more people leave you alone. One would be
hard–pressed to find someone telling Wayne Gretskyor
Colin Powell or Margaret Thatcher what to do. These
people may have stress, but it surely isn’t reflected
in their lack of courage. Can you imagine anyone
telling them they need to conform? Even Wayne Gretsky’s
hockey style was different. So don’t be afraid at least
to think about this and ask “what if I could”? “Should
I”, “how can I”…”do I dare to”? And don’t allow anyone
to dictate your “self” to you. I learned that my dreams
were not my family’s plans. Yet I have the inner
abilities and personality to be my own self. It took
courage to be a new person but the stress level reduced
dramatically once I figured out what I needed to do
with my life. And the accompanying peace and courage
allowed me to stand firm in the face of conflict.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"Are you through. You think you can harm me,
get me out of your hair? You think you are some
kind of hero to your followers. Your actions have
put you to shame and shown you the fool. Stop now
while you are ahead. Anything more will only bring
harm back to you. Love only is the way."

That angered Pedro to a point beyond sense or
reason. He lost all composure and became the
raving fool that he really was. He reached for his
gun.

Everyone in the room held their breath. They
had all been here before. This is not the first
time Pedro had done this, neither was killing
foreign to him. Where Pedro's pride was concerned
nothing else mattered. No one was going to make a
fool of him.

It is like pride in all men. They get to a
point where they feel someone is putting them down
or making a fool of them and they are completely
blinded to the fact it is themselves, alone, who
are the fools. Self pride in any form and in
situation is folly in its highest form.

Pedro didn't wait for any more talk. He
leveled the gun at Romano and pulled the trigger.

He screamed in horror. The gun had backfired
and took off his own hand. The pain was instant
and then over. As with all enormous wounds
the body somehow put Pedro into a myopic state. He
stood there looking at where his hand was. Blood
was dripping on the floor. The gun and
disintegrated parts of his hand were lying about,
spread by the explosion.

Others in the room could not yet know what had
happened. The roar of the gunfire in this small
space was still reverberating on their eardrums.
It was as if a cannon had been fired.

Pedro sat, or rather fell back on his behind,
holding his arm and looking at it. Shock was now
taking over his body. He was loosing
consciousness.

Romano stepped closer, towering over Pedro
now. All in the room knew they had lost a leader.
The woman was busy trying to get dressed. There
was noise heard of people coming up the stairs, as
the two lovers from the room below came running
in. Not having seen what had happened the man
immediately became the "tough guy" and began to do
all the kind of things Pedro had done.

Even in front of Pedro the scene was repeated
all over again as this newcomer went through all
the motions again. He did a few things different
but not a lot. Eventually, he, too, was sitting on
the floor next to Pedro.

All in the room were now confused to the point
of fear. They had never witnessed such a one as
Romano. They now cowered in fear, thinking Romano
was about to turn on them.

Even though Romano was broadcasting love none
received it for what it was, but for one of the
women, the one who had been upstairs here with the
three men.

All of them had witnessed a situation where
this man, calm and composed, had without any
effort, virtually destroyed the two men sitting on
the floor. They had not seen Romano do anything.
He just stood there. He hadn't even spoken a dozen
words. All this happened because of the work of
the two men on the floor.

Both men were wounded to the point where they
would have bled to death. Romano moved toward them
and they cowered.

Raising his hands, palms toward the two on the
floor, Romano broadcast love unto them. "Fear not.
I am not come to condemn but to show you life.
Rise up and walk."

His words, while quiet, might as well have
been shot as from a gun. They blasted into the
heads of all present in a way that would never be
forgotten. Then it happened.

Without even thinking about their wounds the
men on the floor stood, completely whole.

The members of the gang could not believe it.
They held Romano in awe.

"I came to say hi and to see how you were
doing, yet you treat me like this. Your foolish
pride did to each of you what you deserved. Why?
What have I done to you. That I lived is no
dishonor to you Pedro. I bear no malice toward
you. I came in peace and I will go in peace. It is
that blessing I send onto you now. Go in peace."

"How do you do this. Why was I not able to
kill you? What have you done?" Pedro was no longer
angry but in that state where he was asking
questions as an individual beholding something
incredulous.

"All men can do as I have done, Pedro. This is
not any magic it is only knowing the laws of life.
Some are known as higher law and I have been
fortunate enough to find them. It is for this
cause I left this gang, and it is for this cause I
have returned. If any of you should like to know
then I will be at the corner by this warehouse,
tomorrow at two in the afternoon. I go in peace
and I leave you all with the blessing of love."
With that Romano held out his hands wide and
encompassed everyone there. All felt the love he
broadcast.

Romano vanished, disappeared as if he had been
smoke.

spring already. Mom and I go for walks and then come

HA! HA! HA!

After a church service on Sunday morning, a
young boy suddenly announced to his mother,
"Mom, I've decided to become a minister when
I grow up."

"That's okay with us, but what made you
decide that?"

"Well, I'll have to go to church on Sunday
anyway, and I figure it will be more fun to
stand up and yell than to sit down and listen."
