TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

What is the only bone in the body that does not connect
to other bones?

Why do we call twins who are attached to each other
physically, "Siamese twins"?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Are living bones brittle?

Bones are actually not brittle or even solid. They are
living tissues -- extremely porous, and pulsating with
blood. They are soft, light, and sort of spongy on the
inside.

What are human bones made of?

Human bones have four layers: a core of marrow (where
white blood cells are produced); an area of thick, spongy
material full of blood vessels; a wall of hard, calcified
material; and a thin area of skinlike tissue on top.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
-----------------

So You Like to Ski - But at What Cost?

The slave driver of the Roman ship stared down at his
slaves and yelled, "I've got good news and bad news.
The good news is that you'll be getting double rations
tonight."

The mumbling of the happy slaves was interrupted by
the bellowing of the slave driver.

"The bad news is that the commander's son wants to
water ski tomorrow morning."

Well, we all like to have get our "jollies" somehow don't
we? In this case the commander's son had no real
knowledge of how he could water ski, and it is for sure
he didn't care. Are you like that?

Think on that question a little. How many of us go out for
a good time without any thought of the cost thereof?
Oh! I know it will cost you some money but have you
thought about other costs?

How many times do we get our kicks without realizing it
is an inconvenience or even a direct harm to others? It
happens, particularly where drink, drugs or sex are
concerned.

This is not a judgmental article. It is written only to have
you think of the the consequences of your "fun". Too often
our "fun" leads to death. All you need do is ask those
involved with Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Then there
is the case of the drug overdose. Or there is the case of
the showoff who dove into waters he did not know and
never returned.

These things happen, all the time, because we don't think
about what we are doing or the cost thereof. During the
time we are having fun we can lose sight of what's right.
That can cost.

Bear these thoughts in mind for a while. For everything
you do there is a cost. Consider, in advance, how much
you are willing to pay.

So You Like to Ski - But at What Cost?

Courage: How To Find It And Be Yourself
PART 6 of 8

I have never, ever had any desire to do a parachute
jump. But I love the courage of those who do! I once
had a patient who, in her initial jump, was distracted
and ended her “jump” with a broken ankle. Her passion
to jump again allowed her to put up with the
inconvenience of pain, surgery, cast changes, time loss
and family problems. Can you imagine trusting yourself
to the power of a sheet, some cords, the wind, jump out
of an airplane, and hope you get to the ground safely?
That’s courage!

Do you have a secret dream of being a cowboy even for a
short while? Why not plan a week at a dude ranch...just
the act of thinking about this possibility gets you
away from the ordinary. But it does more than that. If
you actually go through part or all of this project,
you will find yourself in several new experiences,
meeting different people and seeing situations you
probably never had encountered before. You will never
ever be the same person again because of these new
experiences. I encourage people do to their own
research. Why? Because it takes them out of their
ordinary routines. You may choose to go back later, but
the experience will change you and add to your
confidence. But if you actually spend a week at a dude
ranch, you know none of your family or your friends
will be there (unless they share the same dreams).
This will force you to learn to be your real self
(nice company!) And wouldn’t that time help you relax
and find pleasure in ways you never considered?

But what if you never got to the ranch, or took the
trip to Tuscany to learn more about Mediterranean
cuisine, or painted the Eiffel tower scenes and only
did the planning…just that would set off different
thoughts and ideas. I want you to keep one or two of
these “scenes” in mind as I share a wonderful
relaxation tool with you. A few years ago, I found the
need to change things I was doing, especially with my
stress levels. We are all flooded with time crunches.
No one escapes.  We don’t have time to slow down.  Even
just thinking about it is irritating. Our lives are
like stretched guitar strings…about to snap!
Eventually, some physical challenge comes at you and it
forces you to reassess your lifestyle. And of course,
being very intelligent, you realise that you can’t
expect anyone else make these changes for you. That
adds to the irritation “file”! Now you have this blood
pressure problem, or diabetes just discovered, or
arthritis that are acting up and the last thing you
need is to be told to slow down. Where does courage
come into this equation? How can you possibly relax
with these added problems? Let’s combine your need to
relax with your unfulfilled dreams. The tool is called
the Power Pause. And you can get a free copy here.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"That is not true, Juanita. Only the men you
know act that way, but you do not know all men."

"What you do? You read my thoughts? What are
you trying to do or say? Are you trying to scare
me?"

"Juanita. I just read your mind. You were
thinking that all men wanted was sex and after
that they didn't care about you. I merely pointed
out that is only true of the men you presently
know and you do not know all men. Some men, beyond
your present group are interested in things that
are different. There is much more to this world
than sex."

"So you say." She was arrogant and sneering,
angry "You are like all men. You will use me and
throw me away."

"You remind me of myself when I first met the
man who helped me. I thought he was a missionary
or a church man who came down here to help those
he felt were the downtrodden and then go back to
his church and brag about his deeds. I didn't
trust him any more than you trust me. That's okay
Juanita. A little distrust is healthy. It will
keep you in charge of your own life. And think on
this, if you really don't trust me, then go. If
you want nothing to do with me that's fine, you
can leave. I'm not holding you here."

"You just say these things so you can lure me
into your bed. Then you will do what you want and
go away. I know you and men like you. I know the
church men you speak of. They have used me too.
They come down here and try to convince us they
know the only true way. They sweet talk and when
they think they have you believing them then they
want to bed you. I know these people."

"My, your experience seems to be all bad,
doesn't it? At least that is what you are trying
to tell me, but what you aren't telling me is that
you like it."

"What? You make me a liar? Who are you to say
this. What do you know?"

"Juanita! Think not I am come to control you.
Think not that I want to bed you. Think not I am
devious or have some purpose for you other than
what I say. Those thoughts will only make it more
difficult for you to truly hear what I do have to
say. All I ask is that you look at the thoughts
and ideas we might talk about. What you do with
them is your business. I want nothing of you or
from you."

"I will watch. I don't trust you."

"Good. I like that. Now tell me what you
thought about yesterday. Tell me what you think
happened to your Hondo or is it Pedro, and his
friend Kelly."

"I don't know what to think. I saw them try to
fight you but their knives broke in half. I saw
Pedro slash at you and his hand and the knife went
right through you and you never moved. Then I saw
him take his gun to shoot you and it backfired. It
blew his hand off. Then I saw Kelly come in and he
was going to do the same to you, and he tried. He
ended up the same way. What did you do? You never
even moved so much as your feet. Who are you?"

"I told you, Juanita. About five years ago I
was a gang member here just like you. We had our
"girls" here then, too. But one day I shot a man
and left him for dead on the floor of that
building right over there. He had come in to
deliver a parcel and I was afraid he was the
police. In fear I shot him and left him there on
the floor bleeding. When we ran and came out of
the building there was his truck, full of parcels.
I was going to steal some of them. Pedro was there
at the time. Before I could steal any of them the
guy I shot came walking out of the building with
another man, a native. The guy I shot had no blood
on him and no sign of being shot. He was perfect.
The native was a big man, huge, and stood tall and
proud. He spoke and when he did his words seemed
to enter my ears and rattle around in my head as
if it were an empty gourd. The big man spoke
softly, but his words might as well have been
blasted from a loudspeaker. They sat heavily on my
soul. He, too, offered to meet any of us here on
the sidewalk the following day, just to talk."

"What did you do. How could that man get up
and walk away if you killed him?"

"At the time, Juanita, I did not know. That
frightened me and I did not know how to react. The
next day I thought I might go see if he was there,
on the sidewalk. He was. I came up to him much
like you just came up to me. I was cautious. I was
scared. I didn't know what to expect. Yet, somehow
I felt safe. He seemed to be calm, peaceful and I
felt he would not hurt me. I began talking with
him and told him much the same as you just told
me, that I didn't trust him and that I thought he
was a charlatan."

"What did he do?"

HA! HA! HA!

I am a first-grade teacher and a new empty-nester. One
night I was trying out an art project: making a person
with simple materials.

I took a coat hanger, attached a paper-plate face, put a
shirt on the hanger, and stuffed it. Then I set it on the
couch to see how it looked.

Later that evening, my son walked through the door,
home for a surprise visit. Taking one look at my
coat-hanger friend sitting on the couch, he
said, "Mom, it's not THAT bad, is it?"
