What insect needs humans to take care of it?

The Bombyx mori, a silkworm moth, has been so cultivated
by humans that it can no longer fly and needs human
care to survive.

Is it illegal to kill a praying mantis?

My mother taught me at an early age that killing a praying
mantis was a no-no, as the insects were allegedly protected
by law. Friends report hearing similar tales. Turns out it's
pure myth. In most states, you can kill a praying mantis as
you would any other bug. The FEMALE praying mantis
certainly doesn't worry about the law. It's common for her
to decapitate and devour a male praying mantis during
courtship.

OPTIMIZE LIFE NOW!™
with Dr. Rhoberta Shaler
---------------------

When The Watering Hole Shrinks ...

I've heard it said that when the watering hole shrinks, the
animals look at each other differently. That's the way it is
at work when downsizing is occurring, too.

We look at each other differently. Our competitive nature may
leap to forefront. Our suspicions about people's motives and
behaviors arise. We watch for political moves. In fact, we
become hyper-vigilant. Everything is a 'sign'. Watch out for
this.

You can only do the best possible job you can do. Be wise. Be
pro-active. But, be assured that some things in the equation
are entirely out of your control. When you live each day in
fear, you are paying attention to what you don't want.
Newsflash! Paying attention to what you do not want attracts
just that into your life.

Does that sound simplistic? In fact, it is not. It is simple
but profound. Who is in charge of your attitudes? Who is in
charge of your sense of self? Who is in charge of your
behavior? Obviously, it's you. What are you paying attention
to? How is it affecting the quality of each day?

I was working with a coaching client the other day who was
obsessing about losing her job. At the beginning of the
lay-offs she had been twenty-five from the bottom of the list.
Now, she is fourth--and with twenty-five years on the job.
Naturally, she was concerned. And, she was at the top of her
'what if?" game. What if I lose my job? What if the economy
doesn't turn around? What if I can't get another job? What
if I don't have the rent money? What if my relationship
suffers? What will happen to my pension?

I didn't suggest to her that there is no wisdom in keeping her
eyes and ears open. I did not suggest that she hide her head
in the sand about the current conditions. Of course, reality
exists. I did suggest, though, that her power was in her
ability to keep the bigger picture in mind. Who was she?
What were her strengths? How did she demonstrate what was
important to her every day at work? What does she have
control over and how can she exercise her options?

Fear causes folks to panic, to forget themselves. Normally
pleasant, cooperative people clam up and keep their cards
close to their chests. Out-going people may talk more because
they are anxious. Quiet folks may withdraw for the same
reason. Fear exaggerates the negative in life. Don't let
that happen. Get on top of it right now.

I'm talking about your overall game plan in life. Make it as
positive as you possibly can. Focus on what you want, where
you're going and how you're going to get there. Make your
conversation about what you want to attract into your life.
Fill your mind with pictures of your ideal job, ideal
relationships, ideal life. Only when you can clearly see the
outcome you want are you likely to take a direct path to it.
Remember that line from
Alice in Wonderland, "If you don't know where you're going,
any path will take you there." Know the destination and
create the path.

How does this translate to daily life at work when fear lurks?
Again, your greatest choice every day is your attitude. Where
are you placing your energy? How pro-active are you being?
Are you willing to ask questions that will help you make good
choices and better plans?

Secrets seem to abound in workplaces that are dwindling. Some
people are 'in the know', others, 'out of the loop'. Ask
questions. Get the facts. Be grounded in reality while
steadfastly focused on the outcome you want.

If you believe in cooperation and collaboration, demonstrate
it in the workplace consistently. Remember, whatever you
value must be part of what you do and say every day, no matter
what the climate or scenario. Don't be pulled off course from
your beliefs and values by fear. Don't let the attitudes,
fears and follies of others sway you from your path.

Even if the lions are at the door, your best plan is to keep
your head. Be true to your values. Be pro-active. And,
definitely, don't feed them.

HOW TO CHOOSE A NUTRITIONAL
SUPPLEMENT: A "Multivitamin" Safely And Wisely
Part 2 of 5

Your challenge is to find the supplement best suited to
your needs. To make this a little easier, I am including
information from Lyle MacWilliam's highly respected '
Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements' (3rd edition)
Lyle MacWilliam, BSc, MSc, FP (www.macwilliam.net).
I suggest you get a copy if you are serious about your
health. He shares a lot of essential background knowledge,
which allows you to make better-informed decisions.

Some people are willing to settle for " piecemeal" (individual
products) and then create their own formulation. However,
you may not know how to do this. You need a firm foundation
of a balanced, complete supplement to complement your
regular daily meals. Maybe then you can adjust the "add on'
to fill in the "deficits".

No matter which way you choose the fact remains that you
are "buying" the expertise of the manufacturing company!
(And don't kid yourself to think that because it's called a
manufacturing company, the products are "unnatural" ...all
products are manufactured somehow.)

This field of supplements, vitamins, minerals, herbs, etc.
is unregulated. In Canada supplements are required to
carry a DIN Drug Identification Number. So regulation is
implied, but the important question is "does the manufacturer
meet those standards. And if there are no regulations, how
will you know what is safe to eat...

In order to see how to understand what you are trying to
do, it would be a good idea to pretend that you are standing
in the health food store or drugstore, ready to buy. (Please
remember that there are many other providers of such
supplements, and the same standards will apply. Your health
is at stake.) Now you are faced with this row upon row of
bottles, all labeled with words you aren't sure you understand.
Some names jump out at you: Vitamin D, folic acid, Glucosamine
sulfate. And then you see all these boxes of "multivitamins".
You recognize names from TV ads. Surely they are safe and
helpful. Please continue your research by reading on.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------

Tim Henry, Eloise's brother, was on his way
over to see his girlfriend, Sharon, at her suite.
He arrived, knocked on the door, and let himself
in to the call from inside.

"Hi! How are you today? Have a good day at
school?"

"Oh, Tim, I wish I didn't have to continue,
just to make the folks happy. The kids at school
have found out I now live by higher law. They are
after me all the time wanting this or wanting
that."

"How did they find out?"

"They all know you and I are going out. Some
of them know I have moved out of the house into a
suite of my own. The girls, especially, are
interested in that. Most of them want to move out
of their homes as well. Too many of them want to
do things their parents won't allow. I don't blame
the parents. Some of these girls are into drugs
and their parents don't know. Anyway, in our
PhysEd class one of our girls was going to put
away the parallel bars. As she undid the bolt to
let down the bar it slipped, taking her hand into
the socket with it. She ripped her hand up bad.
There was blood all over the place. I felt
compelled to help her. Something inside me told me
to go make her whole. She was with the teacher and
they were on their way to the school nurse when I
asked them to stop. I told her to look at me in
the eyes. I broadcast love, raised my palms to
face her then told her to flex the hand she was
holding. As she did she became whole. All the
blood disappeared and she was fine. You can guess
the rest. Not one of those girls could shut up.
Even the teacher was stunned and had to go to the
office where she told all present what had just
happened. All I wanted to do was help."

"Welcome to the real world, Sharon. You did
right and if the opportunity arises again you
should do it again. It is unfortunate man thinks
this is magic and think, for some bizarre reason,
that you owe them. But that is the way he is. He
never seems to look to the truth he could do
likewise. All he ever does is want you to do
things for him. It happens to all of us."

"What can I do?

"Well there are times when you simply turn
yourself invisible. The crowds will disperse when
they cannot see you. There are other times when
you might want to envision yourself here, at home,
and come home. But what I think you might want to
do is go to the office and seek an interview with
the principle. Ask him if it would be all right if
you missed the balance of school and if you could
write all the exams in a quiet room by yourself.
Tell him you are well able to get 100 per cent on
each exam and that you are continuing school only
to please your parents who insist on you having a
high school diploma."

"Do you think he will do that?"

"We had nearly the same situation with Tom, my
brother. Dad wanted him to continue school too,
until it became obvious it was folly. Dad made
arrangements with Tom's principle, a Mr. Stenky.
Tom wrote all the exams and passed them all and
Mr. Stenky permitted him having a diploma. I think
if your principle calls Mr. Stenky he might be
encouraged to do the same. Your presence is quite
disruptive to the school. It isn't that you are
doing anything wrong, to the contrary, but it is
nonetheless disruptive. Ask him."

"I will. This is crazy. Why can't the kids see
it is possible for them to live by higher law.
None have come to me to ask how. All they want is
for their boyfriend to like them, or to have a
mole removed from their face, or to make them
romantic or all kinds of other foolish kid things
that will be meaningless once they are out of
school. It's crazy."

"I know. We had crowds around our place once
that Ted Kuzik let out the story on television
about my sister helping that lady in the car
accident. There was nearly a riot. Many folks
threw rocks through our front window. Mom, Dad and
all of us had to keep our cool. Dad went out the
back to slowly move the people out back away from
the house. He led them three blocks away then
disappeared. He had Tom, Eloise and I do the same
with the folks out front of the house. We led them
in three different directions for two or three
blocks, then vanished. It can be a problem
sometimes. They leave us alone pretty much now.
They think we are far above and beyond them, that
we are unreachable. That is not true but it does
keep many from us. Every once in a while we will
see a mother who is desperate over the life of a
child, but for the most part folks stay away now."

"Are all men like this?"

"Yep!"

"Will it ever change?"

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!

"I am not judged by the number of times I fail, but by the

---- Tom Hopkins

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

HA! HA! HA!

Pig farmers have never done well in the United States.
Most Americans prefer beef to pork. Hamburger is an
American favorite but contains no ham. The porcine
raisers were hopeful to see a significant increase in
their business after the scares about health over beef,
but most of the benefits had gone to the poultry and
fish industries. Sale of ham and bacon remained
virtually unchanged.

Because of this, The National Porcine Association hired
a major Madison Avenue advertising firm to boost sale
of pork products. They decided on an intensive campaign
to saturate magazines television and radio with
ads urging people to eat pork patties. The campaign
was given an extra boost when Congress was convinced
to designate the second of February as the day when
every family would be urged to eat pork sausage.

That day would be celebrated nationally, of course,
as ... Ground Hog Day.
