What are dust mites?
Dust mites are microscopic bugs that eat human skin
particles and produce new generations every three
weeks. Whole populations of these creatures are sitting
right now on your desk. We can't see them, but they cause
major problems: many of us are allergic to mite excreta,
and therefore to dust. By the way, you should never
actually try to SEE these things up close. I remain
tormented by a high-school science film that showed
dust mites under a microscope. They looked like sci-fi
bug-monsters, and I think about that film every
time I dust.

Pew: One In 10 Own MP3s

SOME 22 MILLION ADULTS IN the United States--
11 percent of the population--own iPods or other MP3
players, according to a new report of the Pew Internet
& American Life Project.
The study, based on telephone interviews of more than
2,200 people, concluded that those who are younger,
wealthier, and use the Internet are more likely to own
such gadgets.
While one in five people under the age of 30 have an
iPod or other MP3 player, the number dropped to one
in seven in the 30- to-48 age range. About a quarter
of people with household incomes of $75,000 or more
owned MP3 players. That figure dropped to 10 percent
for those in the $30,000 to $75,000 range, and to
6 percent among those earning less than $30,000.
The study indicated that those who use the Internet are
four times as likely as non-Internet users to have MP3
players. The study also showed that men have a
50 percent greater chance than women of owning a
digital media player.
Separately, Swedish-Japanese mobile phone maker
Sony Ericsson just announced the imminent launch of
digital Walkman phones in March to better tap into the
mobile music market, seen as a top growth area for 2005.
Some of Sony Ericsson's models already feature a digital
music player, but the new handsets will have more
music-playing features, and will get access to Sony's
digital download service on the Internet, called Connect.
The announcement this week coincided with a Nokia
announcement that it had struck a deal with Microsoft to
put Microsoft's Windows Audio player in Nokia handsets.
In a bid to reach a wider audience, Microsoft also said it
will use open standards for its compression and
anti-piracy software in its audio player.

These days, my life revolves around explaining how the immune
system works, how it has broken down, and why you really need to
keep it healthy. This is not some far off ethereal, wishy-washy,
"tip toe through the tulips" concept. It is a very practical
choice you have to make consciously, and apply to your health
NOW. We have made giant steps in understanding our bodies: how
they die (slowly and painfully) and how to keep them alive
(happily and healthily). Ponder this...why do some people live
healthily till they die and why so others limp along painfully
to a sad ending? Why wouldn't we all die the same way? And that
is what I want to share here. This is about living everyday and
every minute to your best possible potential. Not living in
anticipation of your death, but taking an active role in
creating a good life for yourself. And the factual part is that
only YOU can create it for yourself. Neither your doctor nor
your spouse, nor anyone else, can do this for you. This is a
brutal, but real fact. The other scary part is that the choice
to take control is YOURS. So if you choose to move forward in
health and longevity, you need to learn how to do this.
I am going to give you a variety of descriptions, definitions,
and research sites. I urge you to start paying attention to what
is going on ...or not going on, in your own body. This is how
you can prevent many degenerative conditions from getting a
foothold. That includes cancer. One marvellous place to find all
sorts of information is "Medline". It is a site used by many
health care professionals and the research community.

by higher law that is your business, not anyone
else's, including Evelyn's. It is fortunate,
indeed, that the pair of you are talking about
this and thinking about it, however, in the final
time it is exclusively your decision, and Evelyn's
commitment is her decision."
"But what will the kids think?"
"What are you getting at, Darryl. What
difference does it make what the kids think? What
can they think? Do they not want the very best for
their parents? And if you make the decision will
they not come to you for help in time of need?"
"Well, yes, they do that anyway, but won't
they be embarrassed?"
"Darryl, you're carrying this too far. What
will they be embarrassed about, and if so, what is
their standard? Other than you going around as a
perfect fool, why should they be embarrassed?"
"I guess you're right Sam."
"What I see happening, Darryl, is that the
more you think on this and the more logical it
becomes to you the more scared you are at doing
it. You are looking for any excuse you can reach
so you won't have to commit. We have seen that
kind of step many times before. It is a way of
sidestepping your responsibility and blaming your
decisions on others. This is your decision,
Darryl, not your children's."
"Are you saying to me, Sam, that I am trying
to avoid what is my responsibility?"
"That is exactly what I am saying. You are
looking for any excuse you can so you will not
have to make the final decision. That attitude
comes from the notion you are having to leave
something you think is valuable, rather than
looking at the truth that you will be going to
something that is far more valuable. It reveals
doubts in your mind that you will be unable to
achieve living by higher law. You would like to be
able to do the things you see me and my family do
but you are not sure you will be able to succeed
and those doubts have you looking for any excuse
you can find."
"My God! Are all men this way?"
"All must wrestle with the decision, Darryl.
Many fall by the wayside, unwilling to pay what
they think is the price."
"But, Sam, why? If living by higher law offers
so much, why?"
"Because from the day man draws his first
breath he it taught to live within the rules of
man. He is taught by the law that to go beyond the
law is cause to punish him. He is taught by the
church that to go in search of truth is to go
against the church. He is taught by his parents
that to break the rules in the house is cause for
punishment. By the time man reaches adulthood he
is well schooled in the rules. Now you think that
living by higher law is outside those rules. Deep
down inside you the thoughts are that you are
stepping over a line someplace. I ask not that you
believe me, Darryl. I ask only that you go into
meditation, get real quiet, stop any inner
dialogue, then permit your Maker to tell you what
is right. Follow that and you will never go
wrong."
"Sam, I have not done much of that. I think
it's hard."
"You might be better off believing it to be
different, rather than hard. Nothing is hard once
you are used to it. Even your business looks hard
to someone who is not in the business. It is more
a matter of commiting and doing. The learning
comes, Darryl. How do you think Eloise learned?
She had nothing where she was. She has no guidance
from without, no one to show her the way. She
simply sat and meditated then followed what she
was told from her inside. All men are the same. In
your case you have several examples you can
follow. You have Alewka, myself and our kids, you
have Ben and Helen Striker, you have Jim and HIlda
White, now you even have Tim's girlfriend, Sharon
Smithson."
"Does she live by higher law?" Darryl was
quite surprised at this piece of news. He was well
aware of the faux pas Sharon's father had made
when the television crews were here that time the
town blew up.
"Yes, I do Mr. Sparks" Sharon had materialized
in the center of the living room.
"Oh my! It is nice to see you Sharon. I did
not know you lived by higher law."
"I went through all the same questions you are
asking Mr. Sparks, Mrs. Sparks. I guess all men
and women do. I found it tough because I did not
want to leave what I thought I had. But I was and
am in love with Tim. I didn't want him to get
away. I wanted to be with him always. The only way
I could do that was to commit to higher law. I
did. My family is not too sure they like it but it
is my life, Mr. Sparks."
"You are a brave girl, Sharon."
"I'm not brave, Mr. Sparks. At heart I'm
chicken. I just saw more advantages to living by
higher law than staying where I was. Already I
know I will never go back. Life is so much better,
easier, peaceful and rewarding with higher law I
can't believe I fought against it so much."

HA! HA! HA!
A man decided that he was going to ride a 10-speed
bike from Phoenix to Flagstaff, Arizona (about 140 miles).
He got as far as Black Canyon City (about 40 miles) before
the mountains just became too much and he could
go no farther.
He stuck his thumb out, but after 3 hours hadn't gotten
a single person to stop. Finally, a guy in a Corvette
pulled over and offered him a ride. Of course, the bike
wouldn't fit in the car. The owner of the Corvette found a
piece of rope lying by the highway and tied it to his
bumper. He tied the other end to the bike and told the
man that if he was going too fast, to honk the horn on
his bike and that he would slow down.
Everything went fine for the first 30 miles. Suddenly,
another Corvette blew past them. Not to be out done,
the Corvette pulling the bike took off after the other. A
short distance down the road, the Corvettes, both going
well over 120 MPH, blew through a speed trap.
The police officer noted the speeds from his radar
gun and radioed to the other officer that he had two
Corvettes headed his way at over 120 MPH.
He then relayed, "...and you're not going to believe this,
but there's guy on a 10 speed bike honking to pass."
