How did the Amazon get its name?
The Amazon is named for fierce female warriors who
allegedly were spotted along the river's banks by Spanish
explorers. Some historians doubt these warriors existed.
They may have been a tale told by the explorers to get
additional funds to continue their search near the river
for "El Dorado," the legendary city of gold.
What unusual species of fish live in the Amazon River?
The Amazon boasts saltwater creatures that ordinarily
don't show up in rivers, like sharks, stingrays, and
long-snouted dolphin. Scientists believe the Amazon Basin
was once an inland sea that opened to the Pacific. Then,
millions of years ago, the Andes mountains heaved
upward and this sea was severed from the Pacific forever.

Around The Net ...
Looks like spammers are everywhere.
Industry unites against IM spam
Renai LeMay
ZDNet Australia
February 22, 2005, 08:55 GMT
Days after the first arrest for instant-messaging spam, an
innovative software product has been launched to help
counter the menace of 'spim'
Back in December, instant-messaging (IM) management
company IMLogic partnered with security companies
McAfee and Sybari (recently acquired by Microsoft) to
build IMLogic's Threat Center, which aims to protect users
from peer-to-peer and IM threats, such as viruses, worms,
spim and malicious code. The centre monitors honeypots
(servers that attract security threats) on private IM networks
run by AOL, Microsoft and Yahoo to identify the latest
problems in the IM world. IMLogic was founded by
Francis deSouza, who built Microsoft's first IM server.
And now IMLogic has released version 7.0 of its IM Manager
software, which it says is the first instant-messaging
management solution to be integrated with the IMLogic
Threat Center for automatic real-time threat protection.
IM Manager protects users against viruses and spam sent
via IM.
According to the company, the launch couldn't have come
at a better time. While market research firm Gartner has
predicted that by the end of 2005, instant messaging will
surpass e-mail as the primary way people interact
electronically, the technology may be particularly attractive
to the business world. Technology market research firm
The Radicati Group has come to the conclusion that "more
than 85 percent of all enterprises report using instant
messaging for business".
Yet IMLogic says that "most IM usage is still unmonitored
and unprotected" and that "Symantec cites in their recent
Internet Security Threat Report that IM/P2P applications
were used in 7 of the top 10 Internet threats in 2004, with
IM security threats growing at 100% every six months."
However the software may not be as attractive to
customers who already subscribe to an antivirus package,
with both Symantec's Norton Antivirus and McAfee's
VirusScan packages featuring the ability to remove
viruses from files received via IM. IM Manager does have
the ability to interoperate with Symantec's AntiVirus Scan
Engine. Additionally, IM users may be able to simply
restrict their clients to only receive messages from users
who they have previously authorised, stopping rogue
users from sending them messages at all.
Although 18-year-old Anthony Greco, who was arrested
last Wednesday at Los Angeles International Airport for
allegedly sending around 1.5 million instant messages
advertising pornography and mortgages may be the first
known US citizen to be arrested for sending spim, it's
certainly not the first time that the authorities have had
their attention on the spim phenomenon.
America Online, Microsoft, Earthlink and Yahoo (which
together form the Anti-Spam Alliance in the United States)
announced> in October 2004 that they had each filed
new lawsuits in the US Federal Court against senders
of unwanted computer messages. The announcement
was particularly noteworthy as it was the first lawsuit to
target, amongst other things, spim.

Your Immune System: Delicate Yet Critical
How It Serves You And Why You Need To Keep It Healthy
Why a carrot is good and a chocolate bar is not...
PART 6 of 9
The immune system also plays a crucial role in your ability to
weather exposure to parasites, bacteria, viruses, toxins, and
other hazards that interact daily with your body. Your body's
struggle against disease is played out twenty four hours a day,
seven days a week, in each and every individual cell. Your
immune system meets innumerable challenges and overcomes
countless enemies throughout your lifetime.
Although your Immune System is seen to be completely supportive,
it does have a negative component. This it the "auto-immune"
activity. This occurs when the body doesn't appear to like
itself and tries to attack its own cells, as in the case of
lupus or scleroderma. There is controversy about its possible
existence, cause, and treatment. Traditional treatment calls for
more chemicals, resulting in more free radicals. Are you
beginning to see the connections? There are children who have a
very limited (compromised) immune system. They have to spend
their entire lives in very protective environments so as to
avoid exposure to potential life-threatening organisms.
How would you overload or cause your immune system to
malfunction? Simply by using up its supply of antioxidants at a
rate higher than what your body is being supplied with. In other
words, what you eat doesn't supply enough nutrients to power the
system consistently or adequately. So the carrot you eat,
provides some antioxidants. The chocolate bar you snack on
provides elements that the body wants to get rid of, especially
sugars.
Unfortunately, you are not the only contributor to "neglect" in
your body. Other situations that add to this deterioration are
chemicals, and irritants such as molds, pollens, etc. These are
not natural to your body. They may be common, but they are not
"of the body". They may be going into your body, on it, or being
inhaled. Your eyes, nose, throat, skin, etc. are all entry
points. They are those unpleasant "noxious" smells you breathe,
your headache medication, your calorie-reduced drinks, surgery
and all its related drugs, some types of fillings in your teeth,
the implants in your bones, the fluorescent lights in your
environment...the list goes on. They all contribute to this
unwanted demand in your body. And what about the unnatural
amount of salt or the preservatives you find in your prepared
foods that enhance taste, freshness, and appearance. (We ask for
them because we want our foods to look great and be tasty.)

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

The time it took for all this to happen to
Juanita was over a span of about four hours,
before Romano "knew" he could go in to her and
call her back from death. Inside him he knew what
was going on, and he knew what he would see when
he entered her room, but he was being told that
now was not the time. He waited until he "knew" it
was all right.
He entered her room and sure enough there she
was, lying fully naked in pools of her own blood,
motionless. He took the time to repair the broken
door she had slammed so hard. Then he raised his
palms and sent energy unto the blood stains
around. They were cleaned up. The next thing he
did was extend his palms to her and in a flash she
was fully dressed in clean new clothing.
Then and then only did he stand at her feet
with his palms extended toward her and gave her
the command "Juanita. Rise up and walk." He
continued to stand over her allowing energy to
flow to her.
Now that Juanita was up and sitting at the
kitchen table she was in a daze and wonderment for
nearly another four hours before she began to
speak in any normal fashion.
Both Romano and Oomano knew what had happened
to her and were pleased.
Over the next few days Juanita continued in a
daze. It seemed to her as if she floated through
her days. The same things were happening but
somehow she was no longer attached to them.
In the old days Juanita learned early she
could use her body to get what she wanted. If she
was involved in a dispute with any of the gang
members she would throw herself at them and cause
them to have sex with her. The issue would then be
resolved and she would move on. Over the span of a
couple years she learned to use her body
skillfully and she found she could, in her way,
control what was happening within the gang.
She learned, however, that she could go no
further. Somehow this was a useless dead end. Her
entire world was wrapped up in this group of a few
men and women and every day was the same as the
last.
When Romano came along she saw a gleam of
light. There was a ray of hope that maybe he could
lead to different worlds. She decided to explore.
That exploration led to her nearly getting killed
and if it had not been for Romano she would have
been. Now she was living with Romano and his
family and the things she used to do each day were
no longer there. These people lived by values she
was unfamiliar with and she knew not what to do.
The months had passed and she was continually
at war with herself. She could see what was right,
yet she wanted the control back that she had with
the gang. She could sit and talk with Romano and
Oomano about philosophical points but it did not
penetrate the feeling in her mind and body. Her
former experiences led to her days being intense.
Here there was no such intensity. In the old days
there was inter activity within the gang that
sooner or later led to a coupling with one or more
people. Here, sex was not even discussed. She knew
it was not a taboo subject. It was just not high
on the list of people's priorities.
So Juanita was at war within herself. She was
fighting with animal instincts on the one hand and
genuine love and knowledge on the other. The
former could hold her imagination because of the
strong and intense emotions it evoked. The latter
she could only pay intellectual attention to and
it did not seem to offer her the substance she
needed.
Even though Juanita knew the new path was
correct she could not follow. The pull of old
habits kept grabbing her. Several times a day she
would resort back to the old ways and have to go
to her room to keep from being seen.
The war eventually became so frustrating she
could hide it no longer. It reached a crescendo
when Romano failed to have sex with her, as she
thought any man would. Her world came crashing
down upon her. She knew not what to do. That is
what led to her decision to cut her wrists.
It seemed to her that Romano in one swoop of
time had come into her life and removed from her
the sense of values by which she lived, then
replaced it with nothing she could get her hands
on. It placed her in the worst of all possible
worlds. It was the same thing missionaries do when
they go into a non-Christian environment and try
to "show the people the way". They say this is the
way, this is the book, then they go about living
their daily lives where men steal, cheat, lie,
covet, kill, take and otherwise live in a manner
different than what they teach.

HA! HA! HA!
Recently while going through an airport during one of
his many trips, President Bush encountered a man with
long hair, wearing a white robe and sandals, holding a
staff.
President Bush went up to the man and said, "Aren't
you Moses?" The man never answered but just kept
staring ahead. Again the President said, "Moses!" in
a loud voice. The man just kept staring ahead, never
answering the president.
Soon a secret service agent came along and President
Bush grabbed him and said, "Doesn't this man look like
Moses to you?" The secret service agent agreed with
the President. "Well," said the President, "Every time
I say his name, he just keeps staring ahead and
refuses to speak. Watch!"
Again, the President yelled, "Moses!" and again the
man stared ahead.
The secret service man went up to the man in the white
robe and whispered, "You look just like Moses. Are you
Moses?" The man leaned over and whispered, "Yes, I am
Moses. The secret service agent whispered back, "Why
don't you answer the president?"
Moses replied: " The last time I talked to a bush I
spent 40 years wandering in the desert!
