How did the expression "the Midas touch" come about?

What is the highest waterfall in the world?
The highest, or tallest, waterfall in the world is Angel Falls
in Venezuela, rising more than 3,000 feet above the floor
of the Venezuelan jungle. The greatest system of waterfalls
can be found in Africa: the Victoria Falls.
What is the "lion's share"?
Most people think this expression refers to the largest
share of something. But it actually refers to ALL of it. In the
Aesop fable this expression comes from, the stronger lion
intimidates the fox, wolf, and jackal, and ends up eating
the whole meal.

Corn Flakes were invented after Will Keith Kellogg and his
brother Dr. John Harvey Kellogg set about developing a

Bubba and Earl, were driving down the road drinking a
couple of bottles of Bud. The passenger, Bubba, said,
"Lookey thar up ahead, Earl, it's a po-lice roadblock! We're
gonna get busted fer drinkin' these here beers!!"
"Don't worry, Bubba," Earl said. "We'll just pull over
and finish drinkin' these beers, peel off the label and
stick it on our foreheads, and throw the bottles under
the seat."
"What fer?" asked Bubba
"Just let me do the talkin', OK?" said Earl.
Well, they finished their beers, threw the empty bottles
under the seat, and each put a label on their forehead.
When they reached the roadblock, the sheriff said, "You
boys been drinkin'?"
"No sir," Earl said. "We're on the patch."
I can't help but think this will be the way of delivery
for alcoholic beverages in the future. We already do
it with tobacco, what with "patches" designed to give
us nicotine in decreasing doses.
In fact all of medicine is being looked at in terms of
delivery of medications. In our future we will see all
manner of "patch" style of medicine delivery. I see
they already use it for morphine in hospitals.
I speak of these things in the year 2005, because I see
it as the tip of the iceberg when it comes to change. We
already know of Bill Gate multimillion dollar house, all
run by computer. He is undoubtedly a forerunner of
many things we will see in our future.
A question I have in my mind is will society be able to
withstand the onslaught of technology? Before you say
"Yes" look deep, long and hard at the ramifications.
While I know man is evolving I wonder if his values are
coming with him. Change is, of course, good. Yet it is
not good if man's values can't keep up. I suggest man
will be changing his values, too. But will they keep pace
and will they be the right ones. It is folly to think that
man in the developed world will have the virtue to make
him infallible. That change in values is no small part of
some of the world's troubles. It creates an inequality, a
void, a chasm that will not be breached.
Be ready because ...

Your Immune System: Delicate Yet Critical
How It Serves You And Why You Need To Keep It Healthy
Why a carrot is good and a chocolate bar is not...
PART 7 of 9
Your body also recognizes every drug you coming into it (no
matter by what method) and wants to get rid of it. Every drug,
no matter how innocent or helpful, is made up of chemicals. So
think of all you take in, and, yes, that includes the wines and
other "spirits", the tobacco, and even "recreation" drugs, as
well as the cleaning aids we have in our mops, bathrooms, and
laundry rooms.
These might be considered pretty obvious "triggers" for the
immune system to start working, but others could something as
unusual as the insulation in your house or nail polish. If you
don't have a healthy immune system (abundance of anti-oxidants),
you are at the mercy of any and every negative condition in your
environment: smoke, air pollution, water pollution, etc., even
stress. Your body is not only physical...it has the emotional
and spiritual part of it and these are vital to its healthy
balance. And stress is a huge factor, but don't get caught up in
blaming stress for all your woes. That's easy to do and often
it's not a correct assumption.
For a time, it was widely assumed that infectious diseases had
been brought under control, especially in our industrialized
world. We now know that this is not true. The appearance of
AIDS, the huge increase in Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
and the recent re-appearance of Tuberculosis (TB) are very real
and disturbing. As well, we also now have harmful microorganisms
that are resistant to at least two very powerful groups of
antibiotics. If you are exposed to these pathogens
(disease-causing microorganisms), your immune system might be
unable to protect you. This is the immune response
malfunctioning (overloaded) or not even existing any more.
We continue to use antibiotics to "cover" everything. We are now
discovering that this was just adding more problems. (This is
why you should not overdo the use of anti-bacterial soaps: most
people have no real need for them.) Every chemical going into
your body is seen as an enemy: a free radical.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

Fortunate for Juanita she had come to Romano
and Oomano. They would not let go and they would
show her the way. Her life was about to change.
As she "floated" through her days she could
observe what was happening around her. She was not
"attached" to the point where things bothered her,
instead giving her an opportunity to witness life.
That is what Juanita began to do. She began to
question life itself, not from the standpoint of
criticism but from the motivation of curiosity.
The more she looked, enquired, thought, the closer
she was getting to her answers. She began to
realize man does not live by bread alone. There
was something else within man that motivated his
actions. True, food appeared to give him energy
but food was not man's sole source of energy.
There was something else, something she was
beginning to covet, respect, seek and recognize.
Juanita was no longer pulled by animal
instincts. Her body no longer had control over
her. The roles had become reversed. She now had
control over her body. Life became peaceful and
she was allowed to observe things from the
philosophical point of view Romano and Oomano
seemed to think on.
She would spend long hours in conversation
with them now. What they spoke of made complete
sense to her. Romano often told her not to believe
him, or not to believe Oomano, but instead to go
inside herself and learn to communicante with her
Maker. Romano advised her to follow what she was
being told from the inside. If that was different
than what he, Romano, was saying that was fine. It
was her relationship with her Maker that was the
single most important thing in her life. The
sooner she had that established the sooner she
would have life to it's fullest extent.
The idea sounded good to Juanita, but it
seemed hard to do. However, now she no longer had
a war going on. She could sit for hours, quietly,
and ponder what Romano and Oomano told her.
She was beginning to see. She would sit and
meditate. It took her quite some time to get to a
point where she could stop the dialogue within her
own mind. She was continually talking "inside".
Romano had told her to look at things as being
neither good or bad, not red or white, not up or
down. Just look at things as they are. Accept them
as they are. Don't try to describe them in your
mind, what is - is.
Juanita began to practise looking at the world
that way. She started to see that by not
describing things, not pronouncing them anything
according to her point of view, she found they had
no more hold on her. She found she no longer was
"attached" to those things and she could look upon
them as what they were. Now, when going into her
meditations she could take that practice with her.
Now she could look, observe, and not talk within
herself describing everything.
Then one day she noticed a quiet understanding
was beginning to form. She saw that the life that
motivated her was also the same life that existed
in all things. She saw that if you removed that
"life" from a stone, the stone would not exist. It
would not even be a memory, it just would not
exist. She discovered too, that if that life was
removed from her she would not exist and it would
be as if she never existed, no one would ever have
a memory of her. She saw that this "life" is what
most call the soul and that if she were to die it
would only be discarding her body but her soul
would go on. It took her back to the brilliant
white light she saw. She knew her life was in that
soul. She knew that was her Maker. She knew she
could learn to live by the laws her Maker had put
in place for her.
Ever so slowly her world began to change. The
cleansing permitted her to witness life from
inside. She saw how things went together. She saw
how love was the motivating force of the universe.
She saw how people missed the truth because of
it's simplicity. She saw how power, peace and
plenty all resided in the quiet corners of each
person and that if they did not seek those corners
they missed those rewards.
Three months after her transformation life was
going good for Juanita. She now knew and
understood what Romano and Oomano were speaking of
when they spoke of the laws. She knew those laws,
intimately in her heart. She loved her new
knowledge, yet somehow she couldn't quite seem to
step over the veil of simplicity to become an
accomplished master.
She was again becoming frustrated with her
seeming inability to step beyond the veil. Then,
one day disaster struck.

HA! HA! HA!
My wife seems to be losing her sense of humor for no
apparent reason.
Why just the other day, she got mad when she
announced that she was going to the beauty parlor.
I asked, "are you going in for an estimate or are you
going to get the work done?"
