What exactly is "limelight" and why do we say actors

How did the expression "the Midas touch" come about?
People who are said to have "the Midas touch" are
financially successful. You might say that "everything
they touch, turns to gold." The original King Midas, a
character in Greek myth, was really not so lucky though.
He was granted his wish of having the "golden touch."
Literally, everything he laid his hands on turned into solid
gold. Unfortunately, this meant everything -- including his
food and drink. When he embraced his young daughter
and she, too, turned to gold, King Midas had had enough
and begged that this "gift" be withdrawn.
Where did the expression "mind your p's and q's" originate?
There is more than one story to account for the origin of this
expression, but a popular one is that it refers to bar tabs.
Hundreds of years ago, in English taverns, patrons would
run up a bar tab and the bartender would keep track of the
pints (p's) and quarts (q's) of ale consumed. If the bill got
too high, the bartender would remind his patron to
"mind your p's and q's."

Man's Greed Can Be His Problem ...
A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons,
Kevin, 5, and Ryan, 3.
The boys began to argue over who would get the
first pancake.
Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson.
"If Jesus were sitting here, He would say, 'Let my
brother have the first pancake. I can wait.'"
Kevin turned to his younger brother and said,
"Ryan, you be Jesus."
Yes, we're born with it. When we are young it is called
selfish and as we get older we translate and mutate
that characteristic into a drive to gain as many material
goods as is possible, often at the expense of others.
Then we call it greed.
Some say that is how we survive. Others claim that is
why we have such technological advances. And still
others say that keeps our economy strong and viable.
True, if that is your only goal. What about other values,
like helping one another out, like integrity, like providing
a good home for our children and a good example
for them to follow?
You say we do that too? I say look at the statistics.
With one in two marriages ending in divorce I think
we have a lot to learn. And there are other statistics,
too, like crime figures. I'm not talking about any
increase in crime, I'm talking about what segments
of society that commit the crime or where the
problems are. Do you think we have a drug problem
in this country because we concentrate on keeping
marriages together to show and guide our kids in
the way to conduct themselves?
Nearly all this type of problem comes from two
people who have children coming to a point in life
where they think their needs are more important
than each others or the children's. It is called
selfishness, placing oneself before others, greed.

I live in awe of how the mind brings circumstances into
play when you are dedicated to an objective. When
you pick a goal, against which you will accept no
alternative, you, too, will be amazed at how your
mind will bring to you things you didn't think possible.

Your Immune System: Delicate Yet Critical
How It Serves You And Why You Need To Keep It Healthy
Why a carrot is good and a chocolate bar is not...
PART 8 of 9
A majority of the illnesses that afflict us are related to
negative nutritional factors such as inadequate amounts of the
correct nutrients and the unavailability of a complete and
balanced lifestyle in a "friendly" environment. A diet high in
animal fat and cholesterol and low in fiber is unsuitable.
Tobacco/ smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, excessive
exercise, and factors such as chemical carcinogens, ozone
depletion, air pollution, industrial toxins, also contribute to
this negative environment. They result in oxidative stress.
Again, these, in our very simplistic terms for ease of
understanding, are "free radicals". And without getting too
technical, oxidative stress relates to the number of free
radicals and the inadequate amount of antioxidants to neutralize
them. In other words, the free radicals have outnumbered the
antioxidants.
All these are part of this overload. More "free radicals". But
you have to live... So want can you do? I often mention the JAMA
report on the use of nutritional supplementation.
Send a blank email to - mailto:jama2@rr-email.com
If such a conservative "institution" is supporting the use of
nutritional supplements to reverse and or prevent degenerative
conditions, it really pays to listen.
What can you do to help insure that your immune system can
provide you with health and energy? The answer has many parts,
but it can be described simply. Essentially you will want to
reduce the intake or exposure to anything that creates free
radicals or toxins, and increase whatever nutrients your body
needs to "empower" the Immune System. It's not quite so simple
as many things contribute to both the positive and the negative
side. You can't realistically sit in your garden and eat lots of
carrots, as your body needs all the elements of a nutritionally
balanced diet. (One of my fondest memories is sitting in a
strawberry patch on Cape Cod as a teenager, eating all the
strawberries I wanted. Instead of getting healthier, I broke out
in a rash! I guess my body was sending a message of
"unhealthiness". Maybe moderation should have been part of my
decision.) Start looking carefully at what you eat and make sure
it is helpful and supportive in your new search for health.
A healthy Immune System is supplied with a constant and adequate
flow of anti-oxidants (along with many other elements.) These
are received through a well balanced, complete, nutrient-rich
diet.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

One thing about a three legged stool is that
the only practical application is as a milk stool
in the barn. There, it is the perfect thing to sit
on because it can never rock around. It is at once
the most stable of stools and the most unstable.
While sitting on it, properly centered, with a low
center or gravity it works like a miracle, but any
other application it is the most unstable
instrument to sit on imaginable.
Romano and Oomano had gone out for the day.
They had been called away on a mission to aid man
in some part of the world. They felt they could
leave Marietta with Juanita and things would be
fine. That was actually true, for Juanita was
wholly attentive to Marietta.
Juanita had done a washing and was out hanging
clothes on the line. Simultaneously she was
cooking lunch, a big pot of boiling water on the
stove with which she was going to make soup.
In a moment she had not noticed Marietta slip
back into the house. When she did notice she only
had one bed sheet left to hang so she continued.
Little Marietta was a curious child, and she
liked to help her Mother and Juanita in the
kitchen or elsewhere around the house.
Seeing the pot on the stove she thought she
would have a look at what it was. She had no idea
it was only water, neither had she any idea of
what hot water, boiling water, meant in terms of
danger.
She went to get the three legged stool in the
corner of the kitchen. She didn't know how to use
that either. She dragged it over to the stove and,
holding onto a handle on the stove she was able to
get onto the stool.
Standing straight she went to move one foot,
so she could get closer to the pot. The stool did
it's thing, and tipped. Marietta was falling. She
grabbed for anything she could reach.
The pot handle brought the pot with it. She
tumbled onto the floor, the pot overturned after
her.The water hit her full force, scalding her
little body instantly.
The scream was one of terror. It told Juanita
where Marietta was and it told her she was already
too late.
She dropped the sheet and ran. Never before
had she run so fast. She came screaming into the
kitchen, literally screaming Marietta's name.
The child was unconscious on the floor. The
burns were all over her body and severe. Pain put
the child into a state of unconsciousness. Shock
was already taking over the body.
Juanita had no experience with burns. Yet she
knew this was not only bad, she sensed it was
deadly. She went to Marietta ...
She stopped. Inside her she was told not to
touch the child. Juanita became desperate. She had
to call someone to help. She had to do something.
She was on her way out the door. She stopped ....
"Juanita" the voice came, "Stand over
Marietta, at her feet."
Juanita did as she was told. "Hold your hands
out, palms toward Marietta. I will cause energy to
come into you through the top of your head and you
will see it leaving you into Marietta, through
your hands."
Juanita did as she was instructed. The energy
came and she could see it leaving her hands and
into Marietta's still little body.
"Now see her as the perfect child you know she
is. See her as whole, unharmed and happy as she
always is."
Juanita again did as she was told. She closed
her eyes and "saw" Marietta as the happy, healthy,
bouncing, curious, courageous little girl she
really was.
"Project that image outward through your hands
unto Marietta, and call her."
Juanita saw that image from her mind leave
her unto Marietta through the palms of her hands,
then she called, calmly ... "Marietta".
The child stirred. She was not screaming in
pain. She opened her eyes and as she did, her
clothing dried instantly and all her visible
features became normal. There was no wrinkled or
blistered skin, no redness, no peeling skin.
The two looked at one another with full love
for each other in their eyes. Juanita had tears in
hers. This was a revealing moment for each.
Marietta rose and came to Juanita. They
hugged.
In that instant all the water had been cleaned
up, the pot put onto the kitchen counter and the
stool righted.
Hugging Marietta, Juanita took her over to the
kitchen table where they sat.

TODAY'S REPORT:
Still enjoying the weekend. We have grandchildren around.
That's fun. Did I tell you Mom and I were made great
grandparents the other day? Not bad for being such
young folk, right? They brought the great grandson over
the other day. He's a cutie. I keep telling the kids that if
they are going to call us great grandparents that the
emphasis should be on the word "great". They shrug
it off as coming from a pompous old man.

HA! HA! HA!
My sister has the courage--but not always the skills--to
tackle any home-repair project.
For example, in her garage are pieces of a lawnmower
she once tried to fix. So I wasn't surprised the day my
other sister, Dianne, and I found our sister attacking
her vacuum cleaner with a screwdriver.
"I can't get this thing to cooperate," she explained
when she saw us.
"Why don't you drag it out to the garage and show
it the lawnmower?" Dianne suggested.
