thePEBBLE - 02/14/06 - Too Eager?
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
A typical, obviously American, community. Two young people
given an opportunity for an a adventure with an attainable
financial reward. Their adventure into the inkonwn, not
restrained by dogmatic rules or community restraints, leads
them to resources that change no only the two adventurers'
attitudes, but attitudes of others.
The reader will either come away with a a feeling of
wonderment or question the writer's declared source, his
Maker, for the content.
I was not envious of the characters' adventures but enjoyed
the book as it refreshed the wonderment I had as a youth and
now as a practical adult, to "think outside the box" about
powers that are within us.

Honourable Joe Clark, the former Prime Minister of Canada
It took me back to my youth and now inspires me to "think
outside the box".

TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

What country would Sinbad the Sailor be from if the story
were written today?
What is the structure of The Thousand and One Nights?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What is jumping DNA?
Nearly half of the human genome is composed of transposable
objects, or "jumping DNA." Dr. Barbara McClintock, studying
peculiar inheritance patterns in the colors of Indian corn,
first proposed the theory of jumping DNA in the 1940s.
Basically, jumping DNA refers to the idea that some
stretches of DNA are unstable and transposable (they can
move around) on and between chromosomes. Scientists in the
1980s confirmed Dr. McClintock's theory by observing jumping
DNA in other genomes. Now they suspect that "transposons"
may be linked to certain genetic disorders, such as
leukemia, hemophilia, and even breast cancer. Researchers
also believe that transposons may have played a significant
role in human evolution. Dr. McClintock received a Nobel
prize in 1983 for her discovery.
What is a "roc"?
A roc is a legendary bird of great size and strength
believed to inhabit the Indian Ocean area. The legendary
Sinbad the Sailor dealt with one of these! Just how big was
a roc? Well, let's put it this way: Sinbad saw a roc egg and
described it as a tremendous dome. When he saw the bird
itself fly over, it blocked the sun. Worst yet, as Sinbad
watched the massive bird, he recalled hearing stories that
the roc fed its young on elephants!

Here's To Think On ...

Too Eager? You Might End
Up Wearing Egg On Your Face!
A rookie police officer was out for his first ride in a
cruiser with an experienced partner. A call came in
telling them to disperse some people who were
loitering.
The officers drove to the street and observed a
small crowd standing on a corner.
The rookie rolled down his window and said, "Let's
get off the corner people." A few glances, but no one
moved, so he barked again... "I SAID, let's get off
that corner... NOW!"
Intimidated, the group of people began to leave,
casting puzzled stares in his direction.
Proud of his first official act, the young policeman
turned to his partner and asked, "Well, how did I do?"
Pretty good," chuckled the vet, "especially since
this is a bus stop!"
We often are so eager to please we get ourselves in
trouble. It is a hangover from our youth when we, in
lots of situations, wanted to please those around us.
Remember when you were first dating someone you
cared for? I'll bet you were pretty keen on pleasing his
or her folks, at the time.
As we get older we often take on a new job with real
gusto and enthusiasm that shows our eagerness to
please. In fact we are often like the rookie cop in the
joke above.
That's okay. That's part of life and living, yet there are
times when we should know better.
One of those times is when we first begin in internet
marketing. We want so badly to please our customers
it is not unusual to see people giving away the farm.
We get so eager to please we make promises we
cannot keep. We say things that are not correct and we
border on hype, if indeed we don't get right into it.
The mistakes of a rookie can be understood. Yet rookies
mature. If sales are still not forthcoming, as well as one
wants, we again slip into the condition of being too
eager, rather than get involved in research and look
for further markets.
Being too eager, for those mature in the way of things,
is often like getting caught with your hand in the cookie
jar, you end up with egg on your face.
In all the years experience I have enjoyed in and out of
the internet business I have found the calm, steady,
unceasing, dependable effort to be the "magic" formula
for success in any venture. Growth and progress comes
not from the sensational but rather because of all the
efforts gone before it. Each day is a new opportunity to
serve. That is where your success comes from.

The Relationship of Oral Health to Overall
Health and Longevity
by Tom McGuire, D.D.S.
PART 3 of 31
With that in mind, this booklet will focus on:
How dental /oral disease, amalgam fillings, and
dental materials can affect ones overall health;
Why these issues are so important in regard to health
and longevity; and
How physicians and other health professionals can
help their clients recognize the importance of this
issue.
You will also discover that if dental disease, and
other related oral health issues, are not acknowledged
as an obstacle to achieving overall health, any efforts
to accurately diagnosis a disease or illness, treat the
problem, improve health, and extend life; will be less
effective; and will often fall short of the desired
goals. As you will see, dental problems can effect many
serious diseases and illnesses, ranging from heart
attack and stroke to idiopathic diseases, such as
Menieres and chronic fatigue syndrome.
Background A number of oral health issues can
negatively affect general health. All but one of the
oral health problems listed below are the direct result
of dental disease, in one form or another. These oral
health issues can be divided into two distinct, but
overlapping categories.
1. Dental/Oral disease. The most important of these in
regard to their impact on general health are:
a. Periodontal (gum) disease;
b. Infected root canals;
c. Cavitations (infected extraction sites); and
d. Other diseases of the oral cavity, such as oral
cancer.
2. Amalgam fillings, fluoride, and non-compatible
dental materials
All of these dental/oral issues can affect your general
health and, ultimately, longevity. Their impact is
determined by the seriousness of the related oral
health problem(s), its duration, and how many of the
above dental issues are active at the same time. Thus,
some individuals may be dealing only with problems
related to gum infections or amalgam fillings, some
with both problems, but there will be a significant
number of people whose health is compromised by all of
these dental issues.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.
The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure

Susan Miles, the Henrys long time neighbor had not been
around for a couple years. She and Mae Wiley had been
walking China, India and back into China.
That was quite a change for Susan. She had always been
the timid, unwed neighbor who relied on the Henrys for
assistance, often. Now Susan lived by higher law and you
couldn't hold her back. She went anywhere and everywhere.
She was made welcome and another chair was manifested
for her at the table. Alewka poured her a coffee.
"So what are all the Henrys doing together? Is this some
sort of celebration?"
"Not really Mrs. Miles. It just sorta happened. We all
decided to come home and visit the folks and when we got
here we found everyone else here. It was kinda neat." Tom
was the one who replied.
"Hello, Tlang. My you have grown into a beautiful woman.
It is so good to see you and it is so good to see you in
such great company. I love this family, all of them. You
couldn't make a better choice in a man than you have, dear.
I'm proud of you."
"Oh, Miss Susan. Thank you. It is good to see you too.
Where have you been?"
"Gee, I guess I haven't reported in for a long while,
have I? Mae and I walked from Delhi down through the center
of India to the jungles in the south. Then, we decided to go
back and visit friends we had met in China a few years
earlier. It was almost like walking China all over again. We
were up on the steppes and down in the jungles. We were all
over. We finally ended up at Riata's orphanage, looking for
you Tlang. Riata told us you had come over here for a visit.
Miss Mae had not seen her family for a long time so she went
home to her place and I came here. She'll be up in a day or
two. Wow! What's this I see?" Susan was pointing to Sharon's
stomach. "It looks like we have another little Henry on the
way." She smiled and sent her love and blessings to and into
Sharon.
"Thank you Mrs. Miles. We are sure looking forward to
having babies around. I think the folks are, too."
"How are your folks, Sharon?"
"They're fine, Mrs. Miles. I don't see them too often.
Even though they are in town they think we don't have much
in common any more. They have expressed no interest in
higher law. That little taste they got at the wedding didn't
take root. I think they would like to have grandchildren
though."
"I'll bet they would. You'll be such a good Mother. I
think it's wonderful. Say hi to them for me."
"I will."
"Hey, you guys. There are more here at the table than
just you guys." Tom was jesting with Susan. "Mrs. Miles, I
sure am glad you found this little girl and brought her to
me."
"Tom, I did no such thing. You just spotted her at your
brother's wedding and you wouldn't let go."
"Maybe. I can tell you I'm not going to let her go now.
We plan to marry, maybe in the fall after Billy and Sonora's
wedding."
"Oh, my. All sorts of changes going on. I'm going to
have to stay home more. Tlang, I think that's wonderful. You
just wait until Mae hears about this. She'll be overjoyed.
"I hope so Miss Susan."
"Well, all you travelers. Are any of you getting hungry?
I sure am. Just listening to you is enough to give a man an
appetite."
"Oh, Sam Henry, you're always hungry. It's good to see
you Sam, Alewka. I've missed you folks."
"You couldn't have missed us that much. You've been away
for quite a while. Your poor old house there has been
wondering if you were ever coming home."
"Oh Sam. You're such a tease."
"Do you remember Billy, Mrs. Miles?"
"Of course, Tom. Why do you ask?"
"Billy and Sonora are getting married in the fall. I
think it's terrific they got together. Tlang and I along
with Amenti and Reno spent some time with them on the
Serengeti. It was a terrific time."
"I sure hope he invites everyone. I'd like to see Billy
again."
"And so you shall, Mrs. Miles." Billy and Sonora had
suddenly appeared behind Susan. "Hello you all. Its good to
see you. How is everyone?"
In unison everyone responded, "Hello Billy, Sonora. Good
to see you."
A place was made at the table for Billy and Sonora.
"Billy, you're sure tanned!"
"I guess so. It comes from spending too much time with
this hot little number." (meaning Sonora)
He ducked from the blow he knew was coming. Laughter
erupted from the table.
"Billeeeeeee!" Sonora's blow landed squarely on his
shoulder. He feigned pain.
"Don't worry about it Sonora. These Henry men can't pass
up a good chance to tease. Billy took to it natural like."
"Thank you Mrs. Henry. I knew there was some reason for
it someplace. He's merciless sometimes."
"Join the crowd, Sonora. This man of mine has got to be
the worst. He's always teasing.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Handkerchief: What is the origin of the word "handkerchief"?
The "ker" of this word comes from the Old French covrir,
meaning "to cover". The "chief" comes from chef, meaning
"head" A "kerchief" was originally a "head covering"
especially the bit of cloth used by women to cover their
heads when entering a Catholic Church. A "handkerchief" was
one carried in the hand.

A guy had been feeling down for so long that he finally
decided to seek the aid of a psychiatrist.
He went there, lay on the couch, spilled his guts then
waited for the profound wisdom of the psychiatrist to make
him feel better.
The psychiatrist asked me a few questions, took some notes
then sat thinking in silence for a few minutes with a
puzzled look on his face.
Suddenly, he looked up with an expression of delight and
said, "Well, I think your problem is low self-esteem. It is
very common among losers."
