What is the difference between influenza and a cold?
What is "stomach flu"?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -

What US president kept flying squirrels in the White House ?
Teddy Roosevelt (the man who gave his name to the Teddy
Bear!)
How many people get the flu each year?
Approximately 10 percent of the US population catches the
influenza "bug" each year. In epidemic years, this
percentage can rise to 25 to 30 percent. Sounds low, when
you think about how many people call in sick with the flu,
but remember: influenza can be difficult to differentiate
from a nasty cold. People sometimes THINK they have flu when
they don't. And, of course, sometimes they call in sick just
for the heck of it.

Apple's iTunes Music Store hits one billion songs sold
milestone
Thursday, February 23, 2006 - 12:37 AM EST
Apple Computer, Inc. has just this minute (hit the one
billion songs milestone in their "iTunes Music Store Billion
Songs Coundown."
As Apple marked thier way to one billion, the music fans who
downloaded every 100,000th song (starting at the 950 million
mark) received a prize package featuring a black 4GB iPod
nano and a $100 iTunes Music Card (good for any media type).
The lucky grand-prize winner (currently unknown, stay tuned
for the press release) who downloaded the billionth song
from the iTunes Music Store, has won a 20-inch iMac, ten
60GB iPods, and a $10,000 iTunes Music Card (good for any
media type). In addition, Apple has created a full-ride
scholarship in the winner's name to a world-renowned music
school.

Google rapped over adult photos
Google argued its use of the images constituted fair use
Google could be forced to change its image search service
following a court ruling in the US.
A federal judge found that the search giant violated
copyright by displaying small, thumbnail versions of images
from the adult magazine Perfect 10.
Google had argued that the thumbnails constituted fair use.
The case reflects the growing discrepancy between
technological change and the legal system, in particular
over copyright and fair use.
Lengthy ruling
Perfect 10 (P10) launched its case against Google in
November 2004.
It alleged that Google users could find for free its
pictures of nude women by providing links to sites
containing pirated copies of its images.
We anticipate that any preliminary injunction will have no
effect on the vast majority of image searches, and will
affect only searches related to Perfect 10 Michael Kwun,
Google The firm publishes a magazine that sells for $7.99
and has a subscription-based website that costs $25.50 per
month.
In his ruling, US District Court Judge A. Howard Matz
concluded that "Google creation and public display of
thumbnails likely do directly infringe P10's copyrights".
"The court reaches this conclusion despite the enormous
public benefit that search engines such as Google provide,"
said the judge in a lengthy court order filed on Friday.
He said that the Google-created thumbnails could undermine
Perfect 10's efforts to sell small images to mobile phone
users.
Damages issue
However there was some good news for Google. The judge said
the search company did not gain financially from the
thumbnails.
Instead the websites hosting the pirated images were at
fault, meaning that a damages claim against Google was
unlikely to succeed.
Judge Matz issued a temporary injunction against Google and
gave the two sides until 8 March to work out their
differences.
Google has sought to reassure users following the court
order.
"We anticipate that any preliminary injunction will have no
effect on the vast majority of image searches, and will
affect only searches related to Perfect 10," said the
company's litigation counsel Michael Kwun said in a
statement.
The case highlights issues of copyright in a digital age.
Google in particular has faced a barrage of complaints for
linking to copyrighted material online via its news
aggregator and its book search services.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson
The Relationship of Oral Health to Overall
Health and Longevity
by Tom McGuire, D.D.S.
PART 11 of 31
The study concluded that bacterial endotoxin or similar
factors may be related to myocardial infarction and
poor dental health and could not be excluded as
causative factors.
Heart Attack and Tooth Loss A study by K. Paunio showed
a relationship between missing teeth and coronary heart
disease. I find this significant because both
periodontal disease and decay can cause tooth loss.
While some studies have shown that decay is not a
direct risk factor in heart attack, it can and does
cause tooth loss, which has been demonstrated to be a
secondary factor in heart attack.
Stroke Dental infections have also been associated with
stroke. A study by J. Syrjänen showed a relationship
between dental infections and a bacterial infection
associated with cerebral infarction (stroke) in males.
Another study demonstrated that preceding infection is
an important risk factor for stroke, even when
controlled for other established common risk factors,
such as high blood pressure, smoking and alcohol use.
All dental and periodontal infections are of bacterial
origin. The causative organisms include a number of
harmful bacteria. Dental procedures can cause transient
bacteremia (presence of bacteria in the blood), but
even chewing can induce increased levels of bacteria in
the blood in the presence of poor oral health.

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

"So what brought that on?"
"Oh, I just happened to observe there were many magazine
articles being written on the subject and many books.
Alewka. honey, there will be a faction of the people who
will become scared. They are afraid they don't know what to
do. They feel powerless. Some of these stories talk of
lawlessness and there are those out there who fear that.
When they look at the whole picture they see themselves
hoarding food, yet they know it is impossible to ever have
enough, and worse, if it became known by others that they
had food those others could and likely would come after them
with guns. The entire picture is a scary one for them."
"I would say it's a picture of hopelessness. It is true
that if you don't live by higher law that none shall be
exempt from the effects of such times. The only solution is
to commit to learning higher law for only there will there
be peace, prosperity and plenty."
"That's right, Alewka," said Ben, "but how do we reach
the people and get that message out? You know and I know
many will seek out the church and the church will love it.
It will give the church the sense of power they are always
after, but it will do nothing for the people because the
church can do nothing."
"Yes, Ben, I know.
"Further, many will think money will help them out, that
somehow, if they have money they will be able to buy things.
Little do they realize there will be no things to buy, no
merchants to buy from, and if there were the price of a box
of cereal would be thousands of dollars. The whole free
enterprise system will be in chaos. Then there will be those
who know you can't buy things. They will simply beat and
kill to get what they want. It all stems from people not
following the instructions given out so long ago. It comes
from fear of death, ignorance and stupidity."
"I can see that. Man, presently, is almost living in a
'bubble of Utopia'. He thinks life will only get better and
like all men in all times is quite unwilling to consider
there may be a time when the world can no longer support
life as man is living it. He doesn't want to look at that
because he can't see his way out of it. So, he parties along
trying to put those thoughts out of his mind. He somehow
hopes something different will happen. Man has continually
denied that he alone is responsible for who and what he is.
He thinks there is somehow a God person living in someplace
called heaven, who will intervene and make things better.
Man will go to church every Sunday just to make sure, and if
things get too rough he will go to church every day."
"That's the picture." Ben was in sync with Alewka's
observations. "The church has created that kind of
condition. That is the message they give out. None teach the
people to do what Jesus told them to do. If they taught that
message there would be no need for the church. The people
would accept responsibility for their thoughts and actions
and train themselves as Jesus told them. The church does not
want that so they will keep on with the same doctrine,
pulling in money and fooling the people."
"The great law is about to be realized by man, isn't
it?" Alewka asked.
"Honey, if you mean that the end times are here or
coming and man will realize on penalty of death the price of
his actions, we must be careful. We don't know the when or
the how. It is not our business. Neither is it our business
to cause fear and worry among the people. It is our business
to give them hope, to show them the way, to aid in their
disasters. What brought this on was the increasing number of
pieces that are giving out the end times message such that
it will cause and already is causing the people fear. The
great law works all the time in small situations and large.
This condition is no different than any other. The law
works."
"I know, Sam. I wasn't trying to endorse the end times
philosophy. I was only observing the law will work in small
things and big things. At all times man will pay the price
of his foolishness until he learns to live as his Maker
wants. Then only shall he be able to use the law to his
benefit. Somehow we must get the message out."
"Well, that is our desire, yet we should understand once
more, there is plenty of literature out there that points to
the way. It will be only those few who see it and pursue it
that will save themselves. It is not a situation we can
force, neither do we want to. It is only for us to help
those who seek, ask, knock."
"That is the way it has always been, just like Jesus
said, 'Straight is the gate and narrow is the way and few
there are who find it.' So, really, that means we continue
to do just what we have been doing. We will respond to calls
as they come and all we can do is watch the scene unfold."
"Some will come, honey. Some will come. Have you any
more coffee?"
"Oh, yes. Here." Alewka passed the pot over to Sam and
he poured coffee for both he and Ben.
"Where are all the kids?"
"I think they all went back to Eloise's and Maz's for a
while. Billy and Sonora, of course, went back to Africa. I
think Billy likes it over there. He is sure taken with
Sonora."
Ben spoke up. "From what I saw, she is pretty taken with
him, too. Ahhh! Young love is such a wonderful thing to see
and be around."
"It is, Ben. I am so glad Eloise found the way and
brought it back to us. I am so thankful I have been able to
live by higher law somedays my heart wants to burst with
joy. If what those publications say is true, I am happy we
have no worries and can help others." Alewka was always
thankful for higher law.
"Amen to that!" Sam endorsed her position.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Jerkwater Town: What is the reason a small town is called a
"jerkwater town"?
On a long trip a railroad train will have to stop now and
again to get water for the engine from an overhead water
tower. These towers are equipped with long nozzles that are
pulled down over the tender. When a train gets water in this
manner, it is said to "jerk water". If a town is so small
and unimportant that the only reason the train stops there
is to get water, it's called a "jerkwater town".

"Actions can say more than words, but without words
actions can be meaningless." -- Michael McEwan
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
A minister decided that a visual demonstration would add
emphasis to his Sunday sermon.
Three worms were placed into separate jars.
1. The first worm was put into a jar of alcohol. 2. The
second worm was put into a jar of cigarette smoke. 3. The
third worm was put into a jar of good, clean soil.
At the conclusion of the sermon, the minister reported the
following results:
1. The first worm in alcohol - DEAD. 2. The second worm in
cigarette smoke - DEAD. 3. The third worm in good, clean
soil - ALIVE.
So the minister asked the congregation, "What can you learn
from this demonstration?"
A little old woman in the back quickly raised her hand and
said, "As long as you drink or smoke, you won't have worms!"
