ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Is there a difference between motion sickness and sea
sickness?

There's no difference. Some people experience nausea while
in a car or airplane and some while on a boat. We call it
"sea sickness" when on the boat, but really it's all "motion
sickness."

Who is "Punxsutawney Phil"?

Punxsutawney Phil is the "The Seer of Seers, Sage of Sages,
Prognosticator of Prognosticators, and Weather Prophet
Extraordinary." In other words, he's the groundhog that
emerges from his burrow in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, on
February 2. According to folklore, if the groundhog sees its
shadow, he takes it as an omen of more bad weather and
returns to its den. That means we'll have another six weeks
of winter. If the day is cloudy and, hence, shadowless, he
takes it as a sign of spring and stays above ground. That
means spring is on the way. Phil is such a celebrity now
that he actually has an electrically heated burrow. I've no
clue why he comes out at all, unless it's in his contract.
Groundhogs generally emerge from their burrows after winter
hibernation for two things: food and a mate.

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!

Iced Tea was invented by R. Blechyden who served tea with
ice at St. Louis World's Fair.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Persistance Pays!

A policeman pulls over a driver for swerving in and out of
lanes on the highway. He tells the guy to blow a breath into
a breathalyzer.

''I can't do that, officer.''

''Why not?''

''Because I'm an asthmatic. I could get an asthma attack if
I blow into that tube.''

''Okay, we'll just get a urine sample down at the station.''

''Can't do that either, officer.''

''Why not?''

''Because I'm a diabetic. I could get low blood sugar if I
pee in a cup.''

''Alright, we could get a blood sample.''

''Can't do that either, officer.''

''Why not?''

''Because I'm a hemophiliac. If I give blood I could die.''

''Fine then, just walk this white line.''

''Can't do that either, officer.''

''Why not?''

''Because I'm drunk.''

I love this joke. The policeman was at least persistent in
doing his job.

Sooner or later we all get successful results when we are
persistent at what we do.

Success is rarely an overnight thing. It just does not
happen that someone can become successful just because they
wish it. Success comes from the steady, persistent
application of effort, one step at a time, toward a goal one
has envisioned. It does not jump out of a hat like the
magicians rabbit. If it did we would not appreciate what it
means. Success must be earned. It must be justified within
our own psyches. If it is not then it will disappear as
rapidly as it arrived.

You will notice that in the joke above the blowing of the
breathalyzer was not the success the policeman was looking
for, neither was the urine test, or the blood test. All were
merely steps he had to follow to get to the success he
wanted. His persistence alone brought on the success he
wanted. He had to go through all the other steps to get
there.

I see many, on the net and off, who think success should
come just because they are there. Think again. We all look
to those we see as successful and are of the mind that
because we do what they do we should be as successful as
they are. In time that might be true, but it is rarely true
the day you do the looking. The reason is you have not put
in all the preliminary effort. You must pick a goal, a plan
and work everyday toward that objective. Failing to do that
will only give you less results than you want.

Setting your plan and sticking with it insistently,
persistently and consistently is the only way to reach the
success you seek.

Remember too. Money might be a part of the success you seek,
but any concentration on that alone will only render you as
one having money. If you are not a well rounded personality
around which people like to gather, and whose fairness,
judgment and caring for others is held in high regard by
others then you will be far from successful even if you do
have money.

So, consider carefully... Persistance Pays!

Health Question About
Fibromyalgia & Arthritis
PART 2 of 5

HEALTH QUESTION: Hi there, I have a question. I had an x-ray
confirming I have "degenerative lippings" in my neck. Is this
Osteoarthritis? I am 32, what can I expect to happen in the
future as I age?

(1) Will this cripple me?

(2) I also have fibromyalgia.... which is painful, but at least it isn't
degenerative!

(3) Any help you can offer in answering my questions is greatly
appreciated... as I have searched a bunch of different websites,
but none actually specify what "degenerative" lippings are.

(4) Since I have had the Fibromyalgia in my upper back, I have the
degenerative lippings, I have had constant "bloatedness"

(5) I now have a sluggish bowel, occasional swelling of my
leg calves, eyes sore & swollen, jaw aches, inflamation in
my shoulders, neck & upper back. I never sleep well, wake
sore and unrefreshed. I feel like I am 90

(6)! Thanks so much for your time.

Let's revisit the terms: aging & degeneration. Aging is a
normal, natural process and has nothing to do with disease. It
starts at birth and ends in death. We all go through it and
can't avoid it.

Degeneration is seen as becoming UNLIKE the other. Pertaining to
a disease, it is the deterioration or impairment of the
structure or function of the specific body part. Some examples
of this condition are arteriosclerosis (hardening of the
arteries), brain tumours, cancer, and osteoarthritis.
Degeneration is usually caused by an injury or disease state
that results in loss of function. In some instances, it is
caused by an inflammatory process, infection, or other negative
health situation. If you choose to relate it to a standard of
excellence use "10" as the benchmark. It is the lowering of that
standard to a "3" or "4". And it's usually an ongoing process
unless it is halted by some method. That means that the reader
can only expect to have things get worse. (2) According to the
American Medical Association, a complete and balanced
nutritional supplement in optimum amounts will help your
situation.

Can you see the difference? We can choose to age with or without
degeneration. However, we sometimes have little control over our
environment. For instance a hockey player or football player
could have a much greater chance of having arthritis than
someone who works on a computer has. (Of course he/she could
stop playing hockey.)

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby

-----------------------DISCLAIMER

Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Giving Chavez More Power Is The Downfall Of Venezuela

Another day with a bunch of bits and pieces.

Vista has finally shipped to a world that appears to be
underwhelmed, author Sidney Sheldon dies, and some Muslim
countries are finally getting sick and tired of all the
bloodshed.

Microsoft is trying its best to make a big deal out of
shipping Vista. It has been a long time in creating it and
from reports it appears to be the same as XP with minor
changes. However, apparently security is not that much
better and the OS is a hog for disc space and ram. Most
users will need to purchase new computers in order to use
Vista.

In the grand scheme of things it looks to me like Microsoft
may have blown this one.

It is refreshing, though late, to hear some Muslim countries
calling for some common sense from their people. Pakistan
and Indonesia both call for Muslims to cooperate and put an
end to all the bloodshed.

Some congressmen and senators are “stunned” that the White
House would interfere with government scientists on the
matter of global warming. I guess so.

Chavez of Venezuela is being given new and greater powers,
all under the guise of improving conditions in his country.
You watch he will commence Hitler like decisions within
minutes of getting this approval. There will be much trouble
from this man in the future.

Giving Chavez more power will be the downfall of Venezuela.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Sabotage: Where does the word "sabotage" come from?

The word - which originally meant a willful destruction of
machinery by workmen in industrial disputes - is French and
is derived from sabot, the name of the French workmen's
wooden shoe. When looms were first introduced in France the
workmen of the mills objected to them and threw their wooden
shoes into the looms in order to put them out-of-order.

HA! HA! HA!

My six-year-old grandson called his mother from his friend
Charlie's house and confessed he had broken a lamp when he
threw a football in their living room.

"But, Mom," he said, brightening, "you don't have to worry
about buying another one. Charlie's mother said it was
irreplaceable!"

A young boy walked up to his father and asked,
"Dad? Does a lawyer ever tell the truth??"

The Father thought for a moment. "Yes Son," he replied,
"Sometimes a lawyer will do *anything* to win a case..."
