TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

Who writes "Dear Abby" now?

Is it true that a whole town was recently sold on eBay?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Was Esther Pauline Friedman the first woman to write under
the "Ann Landers" name?

No, but she will almost certainly be the last. The Ann
Landers column existed for twelve years before "Eppie" took
it over.

Is it true that "Ann Landers" was the twin sister of "Dear
Abby" and they shared almost the same name?

Yes. Esther Pauline began her column in 1955 under the name
Ann Landers. Her twin sister, Pauline Esther, became known
as "Abigail Van Buren" or "Dear Abby" just three months
after her sister started writing. The twins were competitive
and had an acrimonious relationship for awhile.

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!

A giraffe's heart weighs an incredible 24 pounds.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

March To A Different Drummer!

A man drives to a gas station and has his tank filled up.
The gas pumper spots two penguins sitting in the back
seat of the car.

He asks the driver, "What's up with the penguins in the
back seat?"

The man in the car says "I found them. I asked myself
what to do with them, but I haven't had a clue."

The clerk ponders a bit then says, "You should take
them to the zoo."

"Hey, that's a good idea," says the man in the car and
drives away.

The next day the man with the car is back at the same
gas station. The clerk sees the penguins are still in the
back seat of the car.

"Hey, they're still here! I thought you were going to take
them to the zoo."

"Oh, I did," says the driver, "And we had a swell time.
Today I am taking them to the beach."

Most of us reading this joke would think the penguins were
lost and should be taken back to the zoo. At least that is
what I thought.

It is clear this guy is marching to a different drummer than I
am. That's cool. I like that. In fact I fight long and hard for
every person's right to do that. Each is on a journey and it
is important they complete that journey. I, for one, insist on
a person's right to be different.

It is true many are odd, or that far out from the norm that I
am not sure I really want to associate with them, but it is
their right. They know what they are doing even if I don't.

Some days when I walk down the sidewalk and see
teenagers hanging out at the corner it scares me. Oh! I'm
not afraid of them but my goodness have you had a look
at their clothing, their make-up, their hairdos lately? Wow!
I know we did the same thing. I just never thought we
looked so bad to our parents as some of the kids do today.
Oh well! The pendulum will swing. It always does.

Soon these kids will come into the workforce, marry,
have kids, buy cars and houses and do all the things
we did too. And one day some of them will write an
article about marching to a different drummer. It is
always a current subject.

We, each, are exclusively responsible for what happens
to us. Only by going inside yourself to study that, will you
understand that truth.

Health Question About
Fibromyalgia & Arthritis
PART 5 of 5

HEALTH QUESTION: Hi there, I have a question. I had an x-ray
confirming I have "degenerative lippings" in my neck. Is this
Osteoarthritis? I am 32, what can I expect to happen in the
future as I age?
(1) Will this cripple me?
(2) I also have fibromyalgia.... which is painful, but at least it isn't
degenerative!
(3) Any help you can offer in answering my questions is greatly
appreciated... as I have searched a bunch of different websites,
but none actually specify what "degenerative" lippings are.
(4) Since I have had the Fibromyalgia in my upper back, I have the
degenerative lippings, I have had constant "bloatedness"
(5) I now have a sluggish bowel, occasional swelling of my
leg calves, eyes sore & swollen, jaw aches, inflamation in
my shoulders, neck & upper back. I never sleep well, wake
sore and unrefreshed. I feel like I am 90
(6)! Thanks so much for you're time.

(4) "Degenerative" lippings is a term I could not find, but if
you think about the wearing out of the soft and bony tissue, it
should be easy to see how these would develop. I can easily
picture "sandblasting" your joints and bones wherever they are
exposed to the disease process (free radicals). Our reader
mentioned many of the classic signs of Fibromyalgia. If you
think this could be of more interest to you as well, I urge you
to study what can be done to halt this condition and how you can
take back control. There are many links included here. Please
use this information only as a stepping stone to more research
and a visit to your health care provider.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby

-----------------------DISCLAIMER

Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Bird Flu Keeps Raising Its Ugly Head

The UK is taking fast and drastic measures against the “bird
flu” virus. The have gassed 160000 turkeys on a farm in
southern England where 2600 birds have died with the virus.

The world is sure trying to stay on top of this bird flu
thing. It appears to be a killer with pandemic potential.
Every country in the world is on top of this thing.

Let us hope something else doesn’t slip under the radar when
they are so focused on this one virus.

I see, too, Australia is about to impose a “Carbon permit”
system in an effort to reduce their output of greenhouse
gasses. All things a country can do in that regard is, of
course, good. However, the real measures they should take
will have such a negative impact on the economy they are
reluctant to do the things they should be doing.

Nonetheless, my hat is off to Australia for their efforts.

Have a good day folks.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Vamp: Why are seductive women and firemen both called
"vamps"?

A seductive woman is called a "vamp" in allusion to the
"vampire" of folk lore - ghostly being that supposedly
sucked the blood of living persons. A fireman is called a
"vamp" because at one time in england "vamp" meant "to
tramp" or "walk" - and the volunteer firemen generally went
to the fires on foot.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!

Fitness Philosophy

My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was
60. She's 97 now & we don't know where the hell she is!

The only reason I would take up jogging is so I could hear
heavy breathing again.

I joined a health club last year, spent about 400 bucks.
Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to show up?

I have to exercise in the morning before my brain figures
out what I'm doing.

I don't exercise at all. If God meant us to touch our toes,
he would have put them further up our body.

I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people
who annoy me.

I have flabby thighs, but fortunately my stomach covers
them.

The advantage of exercising every day is that you die
healthier.

If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a
small country.

I don't jog... it makes the ice jump right out of my glass.
