Is it true, as in the film, that Frank Abagnale Jr. has
become friends with the FBI agent assigned to catch him?
Yes. Just like in the movie, the FBI agent and the con man
became friends. Abagnale reported in a recent interview that
he talks on the phone with the agent all the time and that
the agent "has watched my children grow up."
Are a jackass and a donkey the same thing?
Yes, if you're talking about animals. An ass, a donkey, and
a burro are all names for the same creature - an equine
mammal smaller than a horse and having long ears. "Jackass"
or "jack" is used when you are referring to a male ass. The
female ass is called a "jennet" or "jenny" (yes, not
"jillass"). Burro is a name Spanish in origin and more
commonly refers, at least in the US, to the smaller sized
asses common to Mexico.

OPTIMIZE LIFE NOW™ ... with Dr. Rhoberta Shaler

The Garden Of Your Mind
If you think of your mind as a garden, what have you
planted? You know what's planted there by what's growing!
If seeds of doubt are planted, life may seem uncertain. The
harvest may include questions such as 'Do I deserve to get
what I want in life?', or 'Can I succeed?' or 'Will I ever
be good enough?' These seeds can be planted very early in
life without our consent however, once you find them they
must be made into compost! If you find these weeds popping
up, dig down to extricate the roots completely. Even after
doing this, you may find tiny shoots still. They are hardy
plants. Weed often. As you remove each weed, remind yourself
that you deserve a beautiful, productive, well-balanced
garden.
If you find that your 'garden' is overcrowded and little
grows well, you may need to transplant some items to your
nursery bed and save them for another season. Simply look
at the size of your garden plot right now. What are the
most important 'crops' right now? Perhaps you have small
children who need attention. You may have to save the 'I
should write a book' seeds for another time. When you look
at the garden and see that it is unbalanced, be ruthless.
Look at the needs of the seeds you want to grow and make
room for only those. Save the others for another season.
What do you need to transplant?
If a plant has completely overshadowed the entire garden, it
may need pruning. This sometimes happens when that one
plant is receiving all the nutrients, time and attention.
Others cannot flourish unless they were planted because they
prefer shade. Are there some seeds in your garden that
cannot grow because they need more light? You may have to
prune that one big tree! Yes, you likely can make a great
case for keeping it. Of course you can because that's where
you have been putting so much fertilizer for so long and you
just know you were doing the right thing. What's shriveling
from the lack of the sunlight of your attention? Prune!
Do you regularly visit other gardens to stimulate your
imagination, or to verify your choices? It's wise to do
this. Spending all your time in your own garden is limiting.
You learn very little and your garden seems so very big.
Expand your thinking. See what others are planting and the
effects. A new plant may be just what your garden needs for
beauty, balance or new growth.
Check your garden for slugs. They are attracted to
conditions of dampness and coolness. They feed on decaying
plant matter. Do you have any slugs in the garden of your
mind? If you are focused on what is wrong with things, on
what is not happening, on negative judgments about yourself
and others, these could well be 'slugs' for you. As with
real slugs, the first step is to eliminate places where they
can hide. Dark places where sunlight cannot reach. They
need to be handpicked off. Draw them out in the dark, put
them in soapy water and throw them on the compost. Slugs
have no redeeming features. They take away valuable much
time and draw much negative attention. Remove all slugs and
set up barriers to keep them out so you never have to deal
with them again.
Your life, just like your garden, is never balanced but
always balancing.
Be a master gardener!

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - - by Karin Henderson
Understanding Medical Terminology
A Little Bit More
PART 5 of 7
Sometimes there are two root words such as "cholelithiasis".
These two root words are "chole" meaning bile and "lith(os)"
meaning stone as in "lithiasis". And it means something (a
condition) having a stone. You can have a gallstone
(cholelithiasis) or a kidney stone. You can have stones in your
mouth's salivary glands but you can't have stones in your lungs
or your heart. I also haven't heard of liver stones.
Common terms are CHOLECYSTITIS. It mean to have gallstones
(chole = bile & cyst = bladder or sac). HEMOCHROMATOSIS means
you have too much iron in your blood Hemo = blood, chroma =
color, and osis = condition of. MENINGITIS is an inflammation or
infection of the covering of the spinal cord and the brain.
Let's use some of the terms in a fun way..a sort of recipe.
We'll just use a few of each group: prefixes, root words, and
suffixes. I won't bother with the combining forms. Our prefixes
are hyper (high), pre (before), dys (painful), poly (many).
Our root words are liver (hepat), lungs (pneumo), stomach
(gastro), brain (neuro).
Our suffixes are ectomy (removal), scopy (looking into with an
instrument), otomy (opening into), ia (condition of), plegia
(paralysis).

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby
-----------------------DISCLAIMER
Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Wild Card Side Issues Are Getting Us!
I just read another article on bees. They seem to be
disappearing, nation wide. Hives are empty by anywhere from
30 percent to 70 percent.
Bees pollinate 14 billion dollars worth of crops in the US,
never mind the dollar value of the honey business.
What is happening? Scientists are scrambling to find out but
we will all see the results of this loss.
This brings me to the point I was trying to make yesterday.
How come these wild card side issues are happening? We speak
of global warming and how it might affect us but we seem to
be getting slapped in the face by a dozen other issues we
cannot yet tie to global warming.
Things like this bee disappearance may seem small on the
surface but when you add it into the puzzle the whole
picture begins to look different.
Global warming, whether man’s fault or not, is coming on us
like a runaway freight train. It is causing drought where
there should be none and flood where there was no water
before. Population is increasing and food production
decreasing. On top of that we take food producing lands and
are turning that produce into biofuels.
Sometimes man’s thinking amazes me at how stupid he can be.
Someone says we should produce biofuels - ostensibly, I
guess, to reduce greenhouse gasses. Yet they have no clue
what they are doing to the food chain.
Man will pay for this one, too.
So what else can happen? We have food producers turning out
tainted food that needs to be recalled, bees disappearing so
our crops don’t get pollinated, food producing lands now
growing crops for biofuel, population increasing
dramatically and climate change at a rate man cannot
understand, change, control or otherwise deal with.
I would suggest we get ready for a day when our food costs
four times as much as what we are paying today.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Kangaroo Court: Why is a mock trial held by convicts called
a "kangaroo court"?
The term originated in Australia at the time when it was a
penal colony and the use of "kangaroo" is an allusion to the
prisoner' belief that they had no more to say about what
happened to them than the kangaroos of that continent.

Medicine in my Country is So Advanced
Four doctors were talking shop one day...
An Israeli doctor said, "Medicine in my country is so
advanced, we can take a kidney out of one person, put it in
another and have him looking for work in six weeks."
A German doctor said "That's nothing! In Germany, we can
take a lung out of one person, put it in another and have
him looking for work in four weeks."
A Russian doctor said, "In my country, medicine is so
advanced, we can take half a heart from one person, put it
in another and have them both looking for work in two
weeks."
The American doctor, not to be outdone, said "Hah! We took
an asshole out of Texas, put him in the White House and half
the country was looking for work the next day!"
