New Statistics

The stats are in. This was the biggest holiday season of
sales on the internet ever. According to Media News there
was an expenditure of nearly 95.6 Billion dollars this last year,
over the net, a lot of which occurred in the last quarter.
That is really something. When you combine this news
with the news we offered last Monday about the internet
becoming so regularly used it will disappear from our minds
as "something you do" and become an integral part of our lives.
When you combine those two concepts you will begin to
see the internet is not only here to stay but a great deal more
business will be done by the net.
Paying attention to these statistics is worthy for the serious
internet marketer.
Another concept of value is that the more email is opened
Wednesdays than any other day of the week. Now why that
should be, I don't know, but according to a survey done by
emailLabs over all of last year Wednesdays proved to be the
popular day for opening emails, with it being so in the first
three quarters of the year, reported thus far.
Take that into consideration folks, when it comes time to do
some serious marketing, or when advising ezine advertisers.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
Questions
Here are some more questions and my thoughts as an answer.
These are not to be taken as medical advice. If you need
specific advice, please go see your physician. And please
don't forget the pharmacist or some of the less recognized
but equally helpful health professionals. They all have a
vital role to play. I am seeing a major shift in people who
don't want to visit their family doctor yet are seeking
information to health related issues. So understand that
your health IS your own responsibility. But the doctors still
have a huge part to play in your well being. At this point
they are usually the only ones allowed to write prescriptions.
I have recently also written about the caution you should
use in letting your doctor know you have been searching
the Internet for health information. There are many people
who feel the Internet has no place in everyday life. Although
the opposite is true, some people are threatened and will
dismiss other forms of education. Nowadays there is a very
hefty increase in the knowledge of the ordinary people.
Later on I will give you a few (safe) web sites to seek more
information. Daily I hear from someone who was searching
for health information for a relative during their lunch hour . .
this was unheard of before, but now people are looking
for the "second opinion" online, instead of with another
doctor. Just be aware that what you find may not be
desirable for your doctor to hear. And you do want his
co-operation: otherwise you wouldn't be there. So the
comments I make to some questions I receive are more
as a guide to encourage more research. And another thing . . .
I am finding myself giving much more advice to people to
"allow" the other person they are trying to help, be
themselves . . . to find their own answers. As I get older,
I realize how different we all are and how the things we
do, are usually done because it fits our needs. And be
assured it won't fit the need of the person looking to
CHANGE the friend!

Question: I have a friend that drinks a lot of coffee and
doesn't eat right. She only eats approx. 1 meal a day and
relies on Starbucks coffee to fill her appetite. I am trying
to convince her to not only eat right, but also to just eat.
Can you help me find literature on this subject and the
effects it has on a women's body - short and long term?
My response: My original initial response was to send
you a link and leave it at that, but it doesn't seem to
address the concern I have. I realise that this "diet" sounds
very unhealthy! But trying to get her to eat three meals
a day and keep away from Starbucks isn't going to solve
her problem. I would suggest you see how else you can
help .... does she have money to eat healthier foods? Does
she have time? Does she have an image problem she
feels gives her security? Does she have a medical
condition, no money for a doctor's visit, and doesn't want
to know, in case she can't afford the costs? Does she
even have the energy to make any meals? Does she
have a desire to eat "real" foods? Is she afraid of gaining
weight . . a VERY real problem with people who want
to quit smoking? Has she asked you to help her find ways
to live a healthier lifestyle? Has she allergies that in the
past have caused her grief when she ate "healthy" foods?
Until she asks for help, I would protect the relationship
by just accepting her as she is. Isn't that why you find
her friendship desirable and want to help? But she is
the one who will have to make the changes and until
her life is at the point where she wants to, giving her a
link and literature on the long-term and short-term
effects on her body will only draw attention to her
"plight". I think she knows and doesn't need someone
she has as a friend, try to change her. Your local
pharmacy, doctor's clinics, community health office,
all have lots of literature on women's' health. And
here is one link to a reputable site. I will be very happy
to answer her request for help when she is ready to
make the lifestyle changes she should be considering.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

So this day passed without incident for Miguele and Romano.
It was kind of a day of bonding between the two men. Funny
combination, this. The one man was the Father of two lovely
daughters, each of whom lives by higher law. It was higher
law that saved his life when he was shot and left for dead.
The one who had shot him was now going to be his son-in-law,
Romano, now sitting beside him.
Romano had come to learn higher law because of his act
in the shooting of Miguele. In saving Miguele, Mazunta had
been called in. He did the deed, of course, and Miguele was
safe. Yet the young men who did it were still around Miguele's
truck, thinking they could steal something. Mazunta spoke
with them, saying he would be at this same place tomorrow if
any of them wanted to talk. Romano came back and that was
his beginning into learning higher law.
One day, after learning higher law, he was able to visit Miguele's
house, and it happened. He set his eyes to contact Oomano's
and it was love at first sight. That is how Romano and Miguele,
this odd couple of men, came to be together this day, and would
be for the rest of their days.
Driving around the city gave Romano a good opportunity to
witness what is a "normal" day for Miguele. He enjoyed the
time, the travel and the being with Miguele.
Once they came near the orphanage, and Miguele pointed out
he had to drive ten blocks our of his way, because of the
congestion of both people and vehicles, the orphanage, or
rather the shrine, caused.
"I never really had any idea of the traffic snarl up the shrine
caused. This is crazy. No wonder city officials are concerned.
Traffic can't move." said Romano.
"When I have a delivery for one of the merchants next to the
shrine, I have to park two or three blocks away and carry it
or roll it in with my dolly." said Miguele, "And, I have a parcel
for a merchant in there today."
"That's good. I haven't been there for a while. I don't know if
any of the kids will remember me, but we'll see. I'm looking
forward to it." said Romano.
That stop didn't come up until well into the afternoon. It was
about three o'clock when Miguele was looking for a parking
spot near the shrine. He finally found one two blocks away.
The parcel was a light one so he merely carried it, along with
the necessary paperwork.
The pair of the men were not in a rush. Miguele, knowing the
time this was going to take had saved this one until last. They
walked casually.
The crowds were getting thicker as they neared the shrine.
"Don't they ever thin out?" asked Romano.
"I've been coming here ever since Riata was shot. There
was a time when the weekdays would be a little better than
the weekends, but now with the trouble with the churches
the crowds have grown and are overflowing all the time.
Those who cannot get here, because of the crowds, on the
weekend, will come back on a weekday. I understand that
ten at night is the same as is five in the morning. The shrine
is busy all the time. Riata caused the area to be lit at night,
without having to use electricity. The people look upon that
as another miracle." answered Miguele.
In order for them to make any headway, as the crowds
thickened, they had to keep close to the walls of the shops
along the way. Miguele was in a company uniform and he
was carrying the parcel and paperwork, so the crowd made
a little room for him, not much, but a little.
They were finally at the shop immediately next door to the
shrine. It was tough going for the last half block and had
taken them twenty minutes to travel that distance.
They entered the shop. The shopkeeper was glad to see
them. He was expecting the parcel and wanted it. He
greeted Miguele enthusiastically. Signing the papers, he
then set about opening the parcel. It was merchandise he
could sell immediately. And, as he was sold out, he was
glad to have it. "There will be more coming by truck, much
more, but I had them air freight this in to fill in my stock
until the bigger delivery arrives." he said.
Miguele asked him, "Is there a way we can go out the
back? It would make it easier for us to return to our vehicle."
"Certainly, Miguele. Here, come!" answered the merchant.
Romano was glad Miguele had asked to go out the rear.
He wanted to go next door, and it would not be fair to do
it obviously in front of those gathered long before him.
As they were let out the rear door of the business, the
sentries for the orphanage became instantly alert. They
did not know who it was yet, but movement caught their
eyes and they were on guard. They sent the signal and the
kids inside the orphanage knew there was someone in the
alley even before the businessman closed the door to
his shop.
