Are all igloos made from ice?
Not at all. "Igloo" is the Eskimo word for "house" and
applies to all types of houses. The kind of house most
people think of when they hear "igloo" is really a snowhouse,
made from blocks of compacted snow (NOT ice). At one
time, it was a common winter dwelling, but not in the
present day. Most modern Eskimos have never even
seen one.
Did pirates really wear earrings?
You often see earrings on the ears of pirates in children's
books and pirates in film. Did they really wear them? They
did indeed. So did many other seafaring men. According
to historians, pirates and other seafarers believed that
piercing their ears improved their eyesight. This sounds
like a rather ridiculous theory, but acupuncturists do call
a point on the earlobe the "eye point" and focus on it to
correct vision problems and several eye ailments. It's
possible that seamen picked up the practice of ear
piercing from visits to the East along Oriental
trade routes

It's Nice To Be Wanted!

After not seeing each other for quite some time, two elderly
women found themselves at the hairdressers at the same time.
After inquiring about each other, one asked her friend how
her husband was.
"Oh goodness, of course you couldn't know. Jack was out in
the garden last week, digging up some potatoes for dinner,
and he died right there in the potato patch from a heart
attack!"
"I'm so terribly sorry dear," her friend replied. "What did
you do?"
"I opened a can of green beans instead."
Goodness! I hope my wife never thinks like that. Wow!
It makes me think how much I appreciate being wanted.
I'll bet you appreciate being wanted, too.
If that is the case then there is a lesson for us. If we like
being wanted as much as we do, then can you imagine
what you do for others when you make them feel they
are wanted and needed?
And extrapolate that into the business you do, the work
you do in the community, the social life you lead. Look at
what advantages that would have for you, provided you
are genuine to the core.
Am I advocating being nice to others so you can do well
in your business? YES!
Am I saying you should be nice to further your community
life? YES!
Am I telling you to be nice so you are more socially in
demand? YES!
In fact I am telling you that when you are nice to people,
make them feel important, needed and wanted, you are
using the law the way it should be used. I am saying your
life will go much better, be much more prosperous and
happy, when you treat people like you like to be treated.
That sure sounds like the Golden Rule doesn't it? Yet
it goes much further than that.
One of the most fundamental of all laws of the universe
is "As ye sow, so shall ye reap."
It then becomes clear that when you make people feel
wanted, important, you are then using the law in a very
positive way. You know what your rewards shall be.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
Questions and Responses
Question: I had my ears pierced over two months ago
and I don't feel like they've healed... In fact, I feel as
thought they may be infected. Sometimes they swell
and are red and when I pour hydrogen-peroxide on it
fizzes like mad!! There is little to no stinging when I
clean the piercing with alcohol. Is my ear infected?
Could I go deaf if the infection gets worse?
My response:
No, you will not go deaf from this, but living with a
suspected infection is not a good idea. Your treatments
have been fine up until now. And I also think your
deduction is correct. An inflammation is where the
area hasn't actually been diagnosed as having
bacteria growing. The infection does. This is the body's
way of trying to get rid of an irritation inside. No matter
which it is, it needs a bit more help right now. The
hydrogen peroxide fizzes because it "meets" protein.
That's its reaction. Now you want to know what that
protein is...is it bacteria? If so, an antibiotic might be
necessary. Most people would start by washing the
area with soap and water several times a day. If the
alcohol has no sting, it may well not be near the pierced
area. But if it is near this possible open area, it would
keep it from healing. So that might not be the best thing
to pour on. And it won't really "get into" the area unless
you open up the edges...and I would NOT suggest
doing that.

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"Miguele, I'd like to stop next door for a bit, if we can. Do
we have the time?" asked Romano.
He began to broadcast love outward a greater distance
from himself. He knew the kids had a warning system that
was likely already in play.
"Sure, that was the last delivery of the day. We have lots
of time." answered Miguele.
The pair of them proceeded to the rear of the orphanage
yard. Romano looked up and waved to the sentry up on
the roof, across the alley from the orphanage, and he
waved to the sentries at each end of the alley.
This permitted the sentries to send the signal the two men
were friends, and brought two of the kids out from the
orphanage toward Miguele and Romano.
Romano began to walk toward them, still broadcasting
love. Miguele was close behing him.
"Hello! My name is Romano. I am a friend of Riata. This
is Miguele, Riata's Father. We were next door and thought
we might come in for a visit. Would that be
permitted?" asked Romano.
"Yes, Mr. Romano. We recognize the Father of our
beloved Riata. You are welcome." said one of the
youngsters.
They were ushered in to the orphanage and were allowed
complete freedom.
Maria, the newspaper woman was also there, talking with
Reno again. Maria was spending a lot of time here at
the orphanage.
She observed the two men who just arrived and watched
them go where the wanted, without supervision. She
drew the conclusion these men were well known to
the kids.
Romano and Miguele walked to the front of the orphanage
where they could see the crowd out front. The people would
stop at the shrine, bow, pray, move over to the table to get
some of the never ending hot food. Some would put money
into the pail sitting on the earth at the end of the table. The
kids put it on the ground so it was not so conspicuous. To
have it on the table, by the food implied they were asking
for money.
The crowd was orderly, moved slowly, but was in constant
motion. Many who came, left with lighter hearts, smiles
and a sense of joy that pervaded their personages.
"Who are those men, Reno?" asked Maria.
"The older one is Riata's Father. The young one is a friend
of Riata's. He has been here a couple times, to help Riata
when she was shot and later when she came to help us
when the church was putting on the pressure to take us
over. His name is Romano. He is going to marry Riata's
sister." answered Reno.
"He seems a young man to live by higher law." observed
Maria.
"Maria, there is not age limit on higher law." reminded Reno.
"No, I suppose not. Yet I find it difficult to understand."
responded Maria.
"That is only because you yet do not trust completely and
you have not yourself committed to living this way. Romano
was in a situation where he had to commit or he would have
lost his life. He was thinking about it, and beginning to do
things against what his gang thought he should. They shot
him, stabbed him and left him naked in the garbage dump
to die. It was only one of higher law who saved him." said Reno.
"My, I guess I would commit too, then. How did that all
happen?" asked Maria.
"It is a long story, Maria. It began when Romano was with
some of his friends, up to no good, when that older man
made a delivery to an apartment where they were. Romano
and the other thought he was the police, and Romano shot
him, then ran. Riata and her sister knew immediately their
Father was in trouble and sent for help. Help arrived instantly
and her Father was made whole once more. On their way to
the truck, they saw Romano and the others thinking of stealing
things from the truck. When Romano saw the older man, Riata's
Father, walking as if nothing had happened, he was inwardly
amazed. He knew the old man should be dead." said Reno.
"But what happened then?" asked Maria, insistent about
wanting the rest of the story.
