What is a "Jolly Roger" and where did the name
come from?
"Jolly Roger" is the name for a pirate flag. Each pirate
captain had a different Jolly Roger, but they tended to
depict symbols of death and destruction, including the
classic "skull and crossbones." The flags may have been
intended to terrify the crews of potential targets. The
oft-used black and white Jolly Roger was probably scary
enough. The red Jolly Roger was much more terrifying,
as it meant that the pirates would show no mercy in battle.
Where did the name come from? "Jolly Roger" is thought
by many historians to have originated from a nickname
for the devil, "Old Roger." The name may also have
originated from the French word for
"pretty red" - "Jolie Rouge."
What is the real name of the painting known as the
"Mona Lisa"?
The real name of Leonardo Da Vinci's famous painting
is "La Giaconda." The painting is supposed to be a
portrait of the wife of a middle-class Florentine merchant
named Francesco del Giacondo. Art historians have
suggested other intriguing possibilities as well.

Where Is The Net Going?

Good question isn't it? There are things happening on
the horizon that will astonish even those of us that think
we have a grasp on the future.
We will see high speed internet services, even in rural
areas. That isn't new, neither surprising, but it leads the
way to a new phenomenon, home networks.
Home networks, you might think are networks within
the house. While that is true, home networks expands
that, now, to include computer driven music and
entertainment within the house, control of the household
environment and communications within the house.
It also includes ex-house networks. That is to say you
can network with your neighbors and even those friends
or families in other cities. It means that we all will have
access to one another's files, those we chose to make
available, and that communications will be far simpler,
easier, faster, and televised.
It will be breaking the ground for hordes of us to do our
work at home, during an 8-5 day and it will be, or seem,
just the same as if we went to an office to do the work.
That might have an adverse impact on downtown
real estate values.
Consider all the ramifications of this new world. It
seems to me we are all going to have to be on our
toes, even aggressive, about learning all the new stuff.
At theNEWSSHOP we have new systems going into
place to facilitate production and ease the coordination

New ideas and facilities come along every day and it

Questions and Responses
I have been taking iron capsules for approx.
1 year. I began taking calcium tablets approx. 2 months
ago and just now read that I should not take these at the
same time because they will bind together and not absorb.
How far apart should I take these two, my iron is prescribed
for twice a day. I have been taking 1 iron and 1 calcium
with breakfast and repeating at bedtime. Thank you in
advance for your answer.
My response
I am assuming your doctor has prescribed
the amount of iron to take. Normally our foods have
adequate amounts of iron, eliminating the need to
supplement. You don't say how much or what kind of
calcium (Carbonate, Citrate, or Elemental) you are taking.
I am enclosing a short description about calcium. (This
will be repeat knowledge for regular readers.)
CALCIUM: HOW TO TAKE IT FOR BEST ABSORPTION:
Be Aware Of The Difference
Calcium can be taken in one of several combinations.
For most benefit, you should read and follow the directions
on the bottle. (As you should for everything you eat.)
Calcium should be taken with Vitamin D for maximum
absorption. Be aware, too, that taking calcium with meals
can interfere with iron absorption. As it is fine to take it
outside of mealtime, this should be considered.
CALCIUM CARBONATE If your supplement contains
calcium carbonate, you should take it with meals.
Calcium carbonate is also more likely to cause
constipation. Take multiple, small doses for
maximum effectiveness.

to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

"Maria, do you not know that those who live by higher law
have overcome death. Riata lives, at home with Miguele,
her Mother, sister and a bunch of orphans. Did you not see
her here one day?" asked Romano.
"Yes, but that was in spirit. It was a whispy, smoky sort of
thing, not flesh and blood." said Maria.
"Maria, even the church knows she lives. That is what has
them so fooled. They do not understand it. They think it is
of the devil." said Romano.
"The next time Riata comes here Reno, if Maria is here,
have Riata shake hands with her." requested Romano.
"I will do that. This woman is stiff necked." she laughed
as she looked at Maria.
"I don't understand. If she is alive why doesn't she just
come here and end all the . . ."
"All the what, Maria?" interjected Romano, "Both the
people and the orphans reap great benefit from Riata
being here no longer. You might say she has taken a
guardianship role, where she will come when needed."
"But that is news. It should be reported." said Maria.
"I think not Maria." said Romano, dashing Maria's hopes.
"But, but - - - -"
"But nothing Maria. Such news would only benefit you
and do nothing for all the folk you see outside. It they
are practicing some faith, don't you think it best to leave
them? How many have you seen walk away, having
been made whole again? Would not the idea that
Riata lives diminish what they believe is the power
of this place? Think on that." said Romano.
"I - I don't know?" Maria was perplexed. She was at that
stage where she was almost between worlds She loved
and wanted so much to be like the orphans, like Romano,
Riata and others she saw living by higher law. She
wanted so much to believe, but her old world was
tugging furiously at her every thought. It was
approaching a time when she had to make a decision.
"Your time is coming Maria. Fear not for the road has
been well traveled before you. Indeed you are more
fortunate than others, you have guidance. There are
those like Eloise, who had to find it completely on their
own, without help or guidance by knowledgeable
friends." said Romano.
"Who is Eloise? I have not heard of her." asked Maria.
"My apologies. She is a lady from North America who
came down here on a dangerous trip. She found herself
in circumstances that were dangerous and she had no
knowledge or weapons with which to keep herself alive,
except the thoughts and ideas her Father had been
planting for years. At her home Eloise had learned to go
inside to speak with 'her real self' inside. When she found
herself in a situation she could not handle and which
was completely unfamiliar, she went inside. There
she found such help, she committed to living by this way
alone. Then something happened. She found that
commitment led her to higher law. From that day to this
she has lived by higher law and shown as many as wanted
to learn. It is because of Eloise that both Riata and I have
learned. You will meet her one day." said Romano.
"Why don't you take me and teach me like in a school?
That would be easier." said Maria.
"In a way we have. You just have not recognized it. Your
'school' is inside you. That is where you must go to find the
lessons you seek. When you learn that we can guide you
even further and better, but until then and until you accept
exclusive responsibility for yourself, we can only tell you
where you must go. The choice is yours Maria, and until you
make that choice we can only be your friends." answered
Romano.
"It sounds hard." said Maria.
"You are like all men and women. When you come to that
place where you have to accept that you and you alone are
responsible for who and what you are, what happens to you
and what powers you will have, you look for any excuse to
avoid the truth. It is much easier for you, so you think, to
accept the idea that things happen to you from outside and
you have no control over your life. That way you don't have
to accept responsibility, you can blame others and other
things. Learn this, Maria. You alone are responsible for
what happens to you." said Romano, "It does not matter
whether you like that idea or not, Maria. The truth remains
the truth, whether you see it or not."
