Has the Mona Lisa ever been stolen?
Yes. It was called the biggest art heist in history. In
1911, an employee at the Louvre simply walked out
with the Mona Lisa (a rather small painting at
20 7/8" x 30") hidden under his painter's smock.
The employee, Vincenzo Peruggia, felt the Italian
painting belonged to Italy and shouldn't be kept in
France. Peruggia was encouraged to steal the painting
by Eduardo de Valfierno, an Argentine con man. While
Peruggia himself kept the Mona Lisa, hiding it in the
false bottom of a trunk, the con man took advantage of
the theft by hiring an art forger to make six copies of
the stolen painting. He sold these copies to unscrupulous
collectors who knew the painting had been stolen and
believed they were getting the real thing. Now that's a
con! The con man made what would be millions in
today's currency. The Mona Lisa was not returned to
the Louvre until 1913 when Peruggia attempted to
sell it to a Florence art dealer.
Why do some animals have eyes that glow in the dark?
If you've ever taken a flashlight and gone outside at night
to look for your cat, you might have been greeted with the
eerie glow of two eyes that appear to be floating free of the
cat. What makes cat eyes, and those of certain other animals,
glow in the dark? Many nocturnal animals (those that hunt
at night) have a mirrorlike layer called the tapetum behind
the cells of the retina. This reflective surface helps the animal
to gather more light so that it can see clearly even in very
low levels of illumination. Among animals that have this
ability are rabbits, deer, cats, raccoons, wolves, and even
bullfrogs. Animals' eyes glow different colors, too, depending
on the type of animal and the pigment in the animal's
photoreceptors. Some shine red or green, while others
are yellow, golden, or white.

ARE YOU LEAVING EFFECTIVE
VOICE MAIL?

How can your message avoid the delete button? What
is missing in your message that might get the call returned?
Voice mail is your friend. Do you believe that? Most folks
don't. They are frustrated, annoyed and discouraged when
they are met with an 'automated assistant'. Don't be. Voice
mail IS your friend.
Sure, there are varying opinions, two schools of thought: To
leave or not to leave, that is the question. Some believe
that any contact is a good contact. They always leave
voice mail. Others hang up because they don't want to
'waste' the contact. What's your opinion? And, what do
you do?
Different calls, different answer? Remember, people are
busy, overwhelmed, in fact. Research suggests that an
average business executive gets 350 communiques each
day--voice mail, email, faxes, pagers, and letters. With
that much 'noise', any excuse to delete seems a valid
one. If your voice mail rambles, or, if it begins without
a clear point, gone!
'Cold calling' may be going the way of the do-do bird!
It has been ruined by telemarketers. Even if you do
have a terrific offer, consumers are so sensitive to sales
calls--even if you do not seem to be reading a script--that
hanging up has become easier and easier for them.
You might remember a day when hanging up on
someone was the height of rudeness. Well, that was in
the same day, when talking over, through, around and
under someone was also considered crass. The
persistence and insistence of some telemarketers has
made hanging up a more viable alternative than letting
loose with what you really think! Folks are hyper-vigilant
to unsolicited connections.
So, if voice mail is your friend, how do you use it to
your advantage?
Voice mail can be straightforward, full-on marketing.
You have only a few moments to build credibility, leave
a clear message and a call for action or decision. Of
course, there are degrees of effectiveness. Make your
messages so compelling folks have to call you back.
If you are thinking that an effective voice mail is a
predictable one, you're on the wrong track. We live in a
'sound bite, video clip' world. If the message is predictable,
the listener has tuned out.
If the message is all about you, you're toast! Even in the
voice mail world, that old radio station, WIIFM, is still the
most popular. That's "What's In It For Me?" The answer
is "whatever the listener wants/needs to know".
"Sell the benefits." You know that is the key to sales &
marketing. It's the key to effective voice mail as well.
What can you say that will lead the listener to know and
believe that you have something of value for them?
Prospects return calls if you convince them you may
have something they want...and, soon.
Leaving messages for friends and family is a spontaneous
act. Not so at work. You need to prepare your message.
Be ready before you dial.
I know you've received messages that sound as though
the caller was bored to tears. Make sure your messages
are fresh, enthusiastic and energetic. When I am recording
promos or doing voice-overs, I make it a point to stand
up during the taping. Why? My voice is more animated.
I even hold my hands up above my shoulders to increase
the projected energy. Do the same if you have several
calls to make. It will make your message stand out.
Leave short, succinct messages. Arouse their curiosity.
That means not giving them the whole message. It gives
then a enticing reason to return your call.
Step up! Confidently TELL people to call you back rather
than asking them to do so. If that is a big stretch for you,
practice on your friends first. But, do it! It makes a
significant difference in your return rate.
Just a few ideas for making voice mail your friend. Get a
higher return on your time and energy investment.

Questions and Responses
Question : A while ago after I would eat large meals the
food would come up out of my stomach involuntarily. I did
not force it up or stick my finger down my throat or anything
like that it came up involuntarily. Sometimes I would spit
it out, but usually I would just swallow it back down until it
stopped happening. Lately, however, the food has been
coming up every time I eat and even if I swallow it, it just
keeps coming up and I have to spit it out. It's never a lot
of food only like half a cup. What is wrong?
My response
I hope you have gone to see a medical
doctor by now. This is not a normal condition and should
not be neglected. You might want to check the size of the
individual pieces and make sure they are small enough
to fit your throat. Then make sure you have the food moist
enough so it can slide down. Anything very dry will
activate/irritate the vagal nerve in the area and may
cause a reflux reaction (automatic regurgitation). Your
doctor may ask if you have indigestion or ever had an
hiatus hernia problem. Make sure you can give a good
history as to duration of symptoms, weight loss and
presence of pain, eating habits (including size of servings)
and bowel activity. As you are stating, this is obviously
a progressive situation, which you do NOT want to have
continued without any medical intervention. Have you
tried different kinds of foods? Some are very easy to digest,
such as yogurts and milk-based things like custards and
puddings. Some spicy foods are difficult to digest, and
the doctor will want to know all you have experimented
with and the results. Do it before you book the
appointment if you haven't gone already. You don't
want to spend his/her and your time on obvious
suggestions. If you need to places to jog your thinking,
go to sites like General Foods or Kraft Kitchens, etc.

David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"Not only that Papa. The church has much more to think
about these days. Their treasury is shrinking, as are their
congregations. They have much work to do to repair the
mess they made. The papers made them look terrible. I
do not know if they will recover. The people don't like to
be led by those who perform criminal acts. I can't blame
them. It gets even worse when the church as a whole tries
to cover it all up and make it disappear. It means the entire
church organization is corrupt. The people see that and
rightfully pull away." said Riata.
"Is that good or bad Riata?" asked Miguele.
"It is neither, Papa. It is a function of the law. I am no judge.
It is not for me to say things are good or bad. Each man
judges himself by using the law according to his own
thinking. Nothing is good or bad Papa. Only the way you
think about something makes it so. The church is reaping
the rewards from the actions it has sown. That's all. Some
will say it is good. Some will say it is bad. The real truth is,
it is neither. It is merely a reflection of the law." she
answered.
Then she got a call.
"Just a minute Papa. I'm getting a call to help someone." she
held up her hand to keep her Father from speaking. She
did not want to miss this message.
"I'm being called away Papa. I'll be back as soon as I can,
but I don't know if this will take hours or days." she said.
Then she disappeared.
Riata was called to Australia. In the high country it was
raining, nearly snowing. The day was cold, wet and
darkening. A young lady, in her late teens had been up
here camping. The weather, plus an infection from a
slip with an axe, had her disoriented. She was wandering
around aimlessly, and lost. She was in danger of walking
too close to a cliff edge.
Riata, remaining invisible, gently nudged her away from
a the cliff. The girl decided to sit down on a rock. The storm
was coming in with a fury. The winds were blasting, the
rain/snow combination was lashing at her face. She was
not properly dressed and getting very cold.
The girl's camp was over a mile away.
Riata decided to make herself visible. From a distance
she touched down and began walking toward the girl. She
created a circle of light around her that soon shone upon
the girl.
The young lady looked up to see this woman walking within
a circle of light. She thought of an angel, immediately.
Riata came up to her. Standing tall she waved her hands in
full circle and stopped the storm all around them for a
hundred feet in all directions.
"Whoo - who - who are you?" the girl stuttered, whispily.
She was distraught, cold, tired and not of clear judgment
because of infection in her leg.
"Sandra stand." Riata ordered, with that commanding voice
that left no alternative for the listener. Sandra stood.
Riata looked her straight in the eye and held out her hands,
palms toward Sandra. Broadcasting love, there was a sudden
flash of light that traveled from Riata unto and into Sandra.
Sandra nearly fell from the force of love that came upon her.
Suddenly she felt warm. As she stood, she was aware she
no longer hurt. She felt her clothes and they were dry. She
felt whole once more.
"Who are you?" she asked.
"My name is Riata. I was sent to help you. You have come
to the attention of those who live on a plane just higher than
you and invisible from you. You are known to have a kind
heart, one that helps those less fortunate than you. You are
doing good work and you must continue." said Riata.
"I - I - had an accident with my axe, when I was chopping
wood. I didn't realize blood poisoning had set in. My mind
must have been delirious." she said.
"You have been working with Sadhu. He has been speaking
with you about living by higher law. Had you believed him
and resorted to higher law while here you would have been
alright. You yet are afraid to let go and let your Maker do for
you what is to be done. You must learn to trust. In your
meditations are you not given direction?" asked Riata.
"Y - y - yes. How do you know I have been speaking with
Sadhu?" Sandra asked.
