What is a "yellow dog contract"?
A "yellow dog contract" was one of several strategies
employers once used to prevent employees from joining
unions (the practice is now against the law). The contract
stipulated that an employee could not join a union under
penalty of being fired. How did the contract get such a
strange name? The "yellow dog" part of the name no doubt
referred to cowardly, despicable behavior. Whether the
insult was meant to apply to the employer or the employee
who agreed to sign such a contract is unclear.
Where did the expression "red herring" originate?
A "red herring" is a diversionary tactic - something that draws
attention away from the central issue. The term originated
from the use of smoked herring (which is reddish brown
and extremely strong-smelling) to distract hunting dogs from
the trail. In the seventeenth century, smoked herring was
actually used as a lure to train dogs to follow a scent. But it
was ALSO used by criminals to divert bloodhounds from
the trail.

You Gotta Love'em Anyway!

On their anniversary, Bob took Cathy out to dinner.
Their 4 daughters said they'd have dessert waiting
for them when we returned.
After they got home, we saw that the dining room
table was beautifully set with china, crystal and candles,
and there was a note that read: "Your dessert is in the
refrigerator. We are staying with friends, so go ahead
and do something we wouldn't do!"
"I suppose," Bob responded, "we could do the dishes."
Wow! Isn't that the truth?
But, you have to love them anyway. Their heart was in
the right place concerning the anniversary gift. It just
doesn't extend far enough to cover regular daily tasks,
like doing the dishes.
It probably doesn't extend to cleaning their rooms, either.
Boy, can that be frustrating. I wonder, sometimes, how
these kids will ever run their own homes and their
own lives.
It is an unfortunate truth that when you are sloppy in
one task, you are sloppy in others. A friend of mine has
a saying, "The way you do anything is the way you
do everything."
I can believe that. At one time I spent quite a number
of years in the real estate business. I used to insist my
sales people keep their cars clean, including the back
seats etc. Whenever you look into someone's car you
can tell immediately how they run their lives. The messy
ones look after their business in a similar fashion.
I was disappointed the other day to learn that a woman
daughter of a friend, now age fifty, kept her bedroom,
today, just as she did as when she was a teen. There
were clothes all over the floor. No idea which of them
were clean, when they were worn last etc. Can you
imagine trying to keep the wrinkles out? Yet this
woman is now over fifty.
You realize none of this matters to me. Folks can live
their lives as they wish. What I am trying to say is you
broadcast who and what you are by the way you
conduct your life. If you are sloppy in one area you
are sloppy in others.
So when the kids find it difficult, at age fifteen, to do
boring, everyday household chores, when will they
learn. Is there some magic line they cross at age
sixteen? And can they run their own households
that way?

different ways. To sort a list of files or directories:
In Explorer, select the drive and directory you want to view.
Then choose the View menu.
Point to Arrange icons. A submenu appears.
From the submenu, choose the way you want to sort the
list of files . You can choose By clicking the column
heading that you want to use to sort.
If you set Explorer to show files as large or small icons, Auto
Arrange appears as an option on the View, Arrange Icons menu.
Selecting this option allows Explorer to automatically arrange
the icons.

Meniere's Syndrome
"Meniere's" is a condition affecting the
nerves of one or both inner ears.
PART 1 of 5
I want to share a little about a very disruptive and
debilitating condition. I wrote about it a while ago, but not in
much detail. Through thousands of emails, I have learned a lot:
about health care and about people, and it's time to say a
little more.
Normal Ear Function
Each inner ear has two nerves running side by side: the balance
(vestibular) nerve and the hearing (acoustic) nerve. Normally
the balance nerve will send and receive messages twenty four
hours a day to keep your body in whatever position you choose to
be in.bending over, shifting your weight, turning your head,
etc. And the acoustic or hearing nerve is there to receive and
interpret sounds so they will have meaning for you. For
instance, if you are exposed to loud noise, you will be able to
do some correction because it feels so uncomfortable. And
normally sound-wise, you have a lot of silence interspersed with
ordinary noises or unusual tones. You can handle all this
nicely. If you are exposed to some balance problem, chances are
you won't know about it, but the brain senses this imbalance and
sends a message asking the inner ear's "vestibular" or balance
nerve to correct it. Unless you are "hearing -impaired" you will
have these nerves working properly, but you most likely take
their activities for granted. And it's important to know that
each ear and its parts functions fairly independently. Just as
one hand can manage lots of activities, so can the ears.
Although it can be troublesome and often terrifying, Meniere's
is not something that's contagious. Meniere's symptoms usually
occur in only one ear. It affects both ears in only about 30% of
people.
Signs & symptoms that cause most of the difficulty are
characterized by abnormal sensation of movement (vertigo), loss
of hearing, and noises or ringing (tinnitus) in one or both
ears, and pressure or fullness in the ear. Vertigo is most
easily explained as the sensation of a room spinning out of
control, but there are different degrees of this spinning. For
some people it's a very fast spin.for others, it gets to the
point of dropping to the ground without any prior warning! And
still for others, it's a gentle movement, still unpleasant, but
the person can "live with it". For some, it's a dizziness that
comes and goes.usually without warning. Tinnitus is noise: again
different degrees of loudness or shrillness. Hearing fluctuation
is the changes of the sounds: high or low pitches. And pressure
or fullness in the ear is the sensation that there is
"something" in the ear.a very frustrating and uncomfortable
feeling. Our nerves automatically carry through with these
messages or commands. It is our body's intention to be "in
balance" at all times, so it adjusts for any differences.

to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures

"You mean I could have learned all this stuff long ago?"
"Yes, Sandra. Your Maker has long been trying to reach
you, just the same as with all mankind. You have failed to
listen because you thought you were working on things
too important. Today you are asked to put priorities on
what is important to you. Think on that." said Riata.
Sandra yawned. She was tired from the activities of
the day. After discussing this with Riata, they both
decided they would lie down to catch some sleep.
Sandra was pleased to have company for the night. They
were asleep in no time.
Sandra was in an unusual world. All the thoughts she
had been thinking of for the last year seemed to pummel
her at every turn.
She had, inside, argued against what Sadhu was telling
her, while, at the same time, wanting it to be true. Here,
this experience today, and this stranger Riata, brought to
the front, things on the positive side of that argument.
She was tossing and turning. She dreamed and the dream
would not leave. It followed her for what seemed an eternity.
She was at her normal work, back home. Everything was
going fine, too fine. Every time she needed to do something
she would think about it and by the time she got to the task
it was done.
One time when she wanted to go somewhere, she was
instantly there. It shocked her. Then she remembered her
experience on the mountain.
When she was hungry she thought of her favorite meal.
Then, there is was, on the counter in front of her.
Her world was now controlled by her thinking. She was
master of all. Her life was going far easier than before. She
saw she no longer clung to material things, but used them.
If she needed something she did not have, she was able
to manifest it.
She saw herself speaking with Sadhu about this. He merely
smiled. "I am glad you learned to live by higher law. Now,
remember, from those to whom much is given, much is
expected. You are privileged to learn higher law. You must
now aid others in their journey, too.
And he reminded her that now, more than ever before the
law "As ye sow, so shall ye reap" was the overriding law of
her life. She must never think ill of anyone or anything, for
those thoughts would come back to haunt and harm her.
She must always love those whose thinking remained on
the material plane. One day they would learn.
Sadhu explained that from time to time she would be
called away, just like that woman Riata was, to help
those in need.
A sudden loud clap of thunder made her sit bolt upright.
She was shaking.
Looking around, in the light Riata had caused, she saw
Riata, sitting there, smiling at her.
"I just had the most wonderful dream." she said.
"Yes, I was watching. Welcome to the world of higher law.
When you want to talk we shall. There may be some
questions you will have." responded Riata.
"I don't believe it is so simple!" said Sandra, "I now feel
as if I can do all the things you showed me, all the things
Sadhu spoke of. I feel different."
"You are different. You will find you are looking at the
world through different eyes now Sandra. You are looking
at the world from the point of knowing. All you need or
want is now at your command, because you believe, and
thereby are able to influence the spiritual underpinnings,
the spiritual matrix of all things. There is no longer any need
for you to pursue money, you have all you need. There is
no need for you to worry for your safety, for there is nothing
you cannot get away from. There is no need to worry about
dangerous animals, they will come to you as meek as
kittens. Such is your new world, Sandra." said Riata,
"Welcome!"
Riata, carried on. "Would you like to go visit my home?"
"You - you mean now?
"Yes. You are perfectly able. Come on, let's go. It's about
ten in the morning there now. Come." Riata held out her
hand.
The instant Sandra took her hand they were at Riata's
home.

A farmer got pulled over by a state trooper for
speeding and the trooper started to lecture the
farmer about his speed, and in general began
to throw his weight around to try to make the
farmer uncomfortable.
Finally the trooper got around to writing out the
ticket, and as he was doing that, he kept swatting
at some flies that were buzzing around his head.
The farmer said, "Having some problem with circle
flies there, are ya?"
The trooper stopped writing the ticket and said,
'Well yeah, if that's what they are. I never heard
of circle flies."
So the farmer says. "Well, circle flies are common
on farms. See, they're called circle flies because
they're almost always found circling around the
back end of a horse.
The trooper says, "Oh," and goes back to writing the
ticket. Then after a minute he stops and says, "Hey,
wait a minute, are you trying to call me a horse's ass?"
The farmer says, "Oh no officer. I have too much
respect for law enforcement and police officers to
even think about calling you a horse's ass."
The trooper says, "Well that's a good thing", and
goes back to writing the ticket.
After a long pause the farmer says, "Hard to fool
them flies though."
