TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

So when did it become a worker's holiday?

What do you call a group of turtles?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Why do mockingbirds mimic other birds?

It doesn't seem to make sense. Why would a bird
appropriate the songs of other birds? Most birds
use their songs to attract females and want their
songs to be as individual as possible to alert
females of the correct species. It would seem that
the mockingbird is making it harder, not easier,
for female mockingbirds to find him. But really -
female mockingbirds aren't fooled easily. The pitch
and tempo of the mockingbird's songs are different
enough from the original for the female to know
what they are. The mockingbird also tends to cycle
rapidly through thirty or more songs, making it
simple for a female to tell the difference. Female
mockingbirds actually LIKE a wide repertoire.
Researchers have found that female mockingbirds
are attracted to males with a wide selection of
songs. Since it takes a male mockingbird a long
time to learn a variety of calls, it may be that the
females are really looking for maturity and
experience in their mate. (Mockingbirds can learn
more than 150 calls! They can also mimic the
sounds of non-birds, including barking dogs,
squawking hens, frogs, and even a squeaky hinge.)

What exactly IS May Day? A pagan holiday or
a worker's holiday?

Both. May Day began as an ancient celebration of the
return of the sun after a long, hard winter. It was also
called "Beltane," ("bright fire") by the Anglo-Saxons and
Celts ("Bel" was a Celtic god of the sun). May Day
symbolized a return to life after a season of cold and
was celebrated with a joyous festival, including dancing
around the May Pole.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -

Stress And How It Affects Your Physical Body
A Few Ideas To Enhance Your Fitness Level.
PART 1 of 9

When I write these articles, I try to determine what the reader
is like. From my information requests, you are part of a very
diverse group. My intent is to "translate" the medical
terminology and world into common language. But it is also to
give some helpful, practical suggestions to make life a little
more fun and liveable for anyone! However, in many of the
requests, I sense an additional but not formalized "hint".
Stress! If you are healthy, your life moves forward the way you
choose it to be. You can deal with stress, but in an "unwell"
situation, you are often at the "mercy" of a kind-hearted
person. And sometimes with that, problems appear. It affects
your decision-making abilities and your independence. In your
need to "lean" on another person, the boundaries you have set up
for yourself are often ignored. And stress always accompanies a
problem. So I would like to address a few of these "invisible"
but very real issues and make some suggestions. Hopefully, you
have created boundaries already. I hope you won't ever have to
use them.but they are ready to be defended.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.

Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.

The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.

The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"We are fine. So is the family. Everybody is just going about
their business as usual. And how about you?" asked Oomano.

"Oh, we're just fine. All has been well around here for a
couple months now, and no rumors of any difficulty coming
close. I haven't even been called away to help out other folks.
Things have been quiet. I've been staying home, too, to help
out my Mother around the home." answered Sonora.

"We came to invite you to our wedding." said Romano.

"What? You two? Well congratulations." Sonora and her
Mother both became excited, and once more came and
gave the pair of them a hug.

"Oh that's wonderful. When are you getting married?" asked
Kenyata

"In a couple months. On our spring celebration weekend. It
is in the middle of the month of May. Can you come?" asked
Oomano.

"Certainly Oomano. We'd love to come, right Mother?" said
Sonora, "We will look very much forward to it."

"Yes, we will love to come. I would like to see your folks
again. Are you inviting others we know?" asked Kenyata.

"Yes. We are going to invite the folks who attended Eloise's
and Mazunta's wedding. That way you can again meet all
those folks. We know you all had a good time at their
wedding." answered Oomano.

"Will you stay for supper?" asked Sonora.

"We'll stay for a while, but please don't prepare food for us.
We just finished eating." said Romano, "Where is your Father?"

"He's over at the well. Folks gather around the well to talk
and gossip." answered Sonora.

'How are your Mom and Dad, Oomano, and Riata? I haven't
hear how she was doing with the orphans." Sonora inquired.

"I think we have a long story to tell you about that one.
The church decided they wanted to take over the orphanage.
They sent people to persuade her to let them take it over,
including city officials who threatened. She would not let that
happen, so eventually they sent an assassin. She decided to
let herself be shot, after consultation with some of the rest
of us. When that happened the orphanage was immediately
turned into a shrine. Now people from all over the world
come to be healed at the place where the 'holy lady'
was shot. She set up food for the visitors, hot food, with
a never ending supply, plus water, a never ending supply.
The orphans look after the place. Four of us were on
hand at the shooting event. Riata was immediately made
whole and is alright. What made the place a shrine was
that she visibly rose up from the ground and up into the
sky above the orphanage and then became invisible."
Oomano told her.

"My goodness, that must have been some ordeal?" said
Kenyata.

"It was, until it happened. The hard part was waiting for
the shot. Since that time the church has become greedy
and attempted twice to get the kids to turn the orphanage
over. They take in a great deal of money and the church
wants it. They have kidnapped the kids, even, to get their
way. Fortunately all they have done has backfired, and
the kids are safe and doing well. They have set up for
themselves quite an elaborate protection scheme. They
will be fine." said Oomano.

"We have noticed the church, here, too, has tried to control
the lives of all of us. The people in this village don't believe
the church. They have seen too many things happen
because the church says one thing and does another."
said Sonora, "They stick to their old ways here."

"The church does not practice what it preaches. The people
can see that. It disturbs them. The religion they follow
does not. Whether it is right or wrong it is not hypocritical."
said Kenyata, "Years ago we had much trouble here because
of that one point. The church said don't cheat, don't steal,
don't kill. The people were told this is the only true way.
When the people followed they found the white man's church
did not stop the white man from doing all those things. The
people rebelled in what was known as the Mau Mau Uprising.
It lasted for a long time and many were killed and hurt. The
church is still like that today."

"I know. Yet the law will find them out. They shall reap the
rewards of their action." confirmed Oomano.

"You're awful quiet today Romano." said Sonora.

"I was just listening. You women do enough talking for most
of us." he teased.

Oomano and Sonora each threw a stone at him, "You're
awful. You think guys don't talk so much? You should go to
the well and see, where my Father is." the girls both laughed.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!

"Be yourself; no base imitator of another, but your best
self. There is something which you can do better than
another. Listen to the inward voice and bravely obey
that. Do the things at which you are great, not what
you were never made for."

HA! HA! HA!

Mickey's wife was sick of her husband's heavy drinking
and one night she decided to give him a fright. She
made herself up to look like the devil and went down
to the local cemetery, knowing that her husband was
in the habit of taking a shortcut through it on his way
home from the pub.

It was not long before he came staggering along,
and out she jumped from behind a headstone,
"HAHAH" she laughed wickedly, "I'm the Devil, Henry!"

Mickey jumped back at first, startled, but then smiled
and said, "Put it there, Pal, I'm married to your sister."
