TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------

What queen of England never stepped foot
in the country?

What is an "infanta"?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

When is Grandparent's Day?

It's the first Sunday after Labor Day (in September). The
next one is September 7, 2003. National Grandparent's Day
was the brainchild of Marian McQuade, a West Virginia
housewife whose goal was to champion the cause of
lonely elderly in nursing homes. She also hoped to
encourage grandchildren to tap the wisdom and heritage
their grandparents could provide. President Jimmy Carter,
in 1978, made the holiday official.

What queen's first act after being crowned was to move
out of her mother's bedroom?

Queen Victoria of England was crowned when she was
barely eighteen. Her first act was to move out of her
domineering mother's room. While she continued to treat
her mother, the Duchess of Kent, with deference in public,
Victoria was said to shun her at home. Often, in reply to
the Duchess's request to see her daughter, Victoria would
send a note with the one word "Busy."

Discretion Is The Better Part Of Valor!
by Ken Darby

It was Saturday morning as Jake, an avid hunter,
woke up ready to go bag the first deer of the season.
He walked down to the kitchen to get a cup of coffee,
and to his surprise he found his wife, Alice, sitting there,
fully dressed in camouflage.

Jake asked her, "What are you up to?"

Alice smiled. "I'm going hunting with you!"

Jake, though he had many reservations about
this, reluctantly decided to take her along. Later
they arrived at the hunting site. Jake set his wife
safely up in the tree stand and told her, "If you see a
deer, take careful aim and I'll come running
back as soon as I hear the shot."

Jake walked away with a smile on his face knowing
that Alice couldn't bag an elephant, much less a deer.
Not 10 minutes passed when he was startled as he
heard an array of gunshots.

Quickly, Jake ran back. As Jake got closer to her
stand, he heard Alice screaming: "Get away from
my deer!"

Confused, Jake raced faster towards his screaming
wife. And again he heard her yell: "Get away from
my deer!" followed by another volley of gunfire!

Now within sight of where he had left his wife,
Jake was surprised to see a guy standing there
with his hands high in the air. The guy, obviously
distraught, said, "Okay, lady, okay!!!! You can have
your deer!!! Just let me get my saddle off it!"

I guess the guy is right. Rather than fight over the
issue just get the saddle and get out of there. Right?

How many times in life do we run across situations
where it is wise of us to say nothing and just leave.

I look at the times when that seems appropriate and
I find they do not relate to life and death situations
like the joke above, but it is nonetheless wise to act
similarly.

What it is really called, is minding your own business.
Most of us get into circumstances where there is a
compulsion within us to help someone who is having
trouble performing some task. Often this difficulty is
based on ignorance, indeed it is a learning situation.
Don't go barging in to show them or help them. Let them
learn to do it themselves.

I know of people who are unable to earn themselves
a living because their parents always did everything
for them. Now, when it is time for them to live by
themselves or with a significant other, they are useless,
quite unable to bring home the money needed to live.

Don't do that for your kids. Let them rough it. It is the
tough times that teach us, not the good times. You
must let folks suffer, if they would learn. Some of life's
lessons just don't come any other way.

Of course I am not advocating pain and suffering for all
who must lear something. I am only saying observe the
situation and let discretion be the better part of valor. There
are times and places where you are to help and times
or places where you stay away. Think on those things.

To be of real service to others sometimes dictates you
stay clear of what they are doing.

You will know the times, but if you don't, then make a
pact with yourself to think about situations before you
react "automatically".

Discretion Is The Better Part Of Valor!

Stress And How It Affects Your Physical Body
A Few Ideas To Enhance Your Fitness Level.
PART 4 of 9

Conversely, everyone else in your world is unique. Just as you
have your own thoughts, feelings, experiences, they are entitled
to their own "personality". How does this affect you? It gives
you the right to make your decisions with your knowledge. No one
has the right to do that for you. Of course in some
circumstances, for a "dependent person" this wouldn't apply, but
for the vast majority it applies. So each person is allowed to
be "unique". Why is this important? You will often find someone
making plans for you or expecting you to fall in with their
ideas. They mean well, but. If you are obliged to go along
without being a part of the decision, stress follows.

You might see yourself in either of the two characters in the
following example.
It's Friday afternoon and you are tired. A happy, exuberant
co-worker bounces in to your office and suggests you both clean
out the storage unit before you go home. All you want to do is
to clean up and go home! Imagine your inner conflict!
Or can you see yourself more often in this example? You have
just hugged the last child goodbye and are ready to put your
feet up. Your spouse comes in the door, waves his brand new gift
certificate in the air, and asks you to go the sporting mega
store "as soon as you are ready"! He needs "your advice and good
judgement". :) Now what do you do? How can you be make decisions
to suit your needs? You need to know that you are entitled to
your own feelings and decisions. We don't have slaves in North
America any longer, but sometimes I wonder. Still, there are
many, many people who feel they have no choices...they have to
do whatever someone tells them. They must obey everyone...except
themselves. And there are many people who feel others shouldn't
have any choices. In some cultures, even a child has more power!

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.

Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.

The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.

The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

"Oh! Hi Sam. How are you today?" asked Jim.

"I'm fine Jim, yourself?" replied Sam.

"I'm good Sam. Can I help you with something? I'm just
on my way over to the court house with some documents,
but nothing is a rush. Who is your company?" asked Jim.

"Jim, this is Romano. He is the young man who is going
to marry Miguele's daughter, Oomano. He came to ask
you something." said Sam.

Jim and Romano shook hands.

"Wow! Oomano getting married. That's terrific. She is a
wonderful little girl. Humpf! Getting married. I guess I
should say she's a wonderful woman. At least I certainly
enjoyed her company when Eloise got
married." replied Jim.

"Mr. JIM. Oomano tells me that you folks from Pinehill
had such a wonderful time at Missy's wedding that she
wanted to invite you all to attend ours. Would you and
your wife please come to our wedding?" asked Romano.

"Romano, I wouldn't think of missing it. If you have come
all this way to invite us we will most certainly attend. I
would like that very much and so would my wife. We will
both look forward to meeting everyone again. Are you
inviting all those who attended Eloise's wedding?" he
asked.

"Yes." came Romano's reply.

"That's wonderful. We will come, if Sam and Alewka will
take us on their 'magic carpet'." Jim winked.

"Thank you Mr. Jim. We will look forward to having you,
and I know Oomano's Mama and Papa will be excited
about you coming." said Romano.

They said goodbye to Jim White as he was on his way,
and proceeded upstairs in the Police Station to
Ben Striker's office.

They could hear Ben, speaking loudly as he was wont
to do, as they approached his office. They stopped in
front of his secretary, identified themselves and asked
to see Ben.

"Of course Mr. Henry. You know he will see you
anytime." said the secretary.

"Sam! Is that you?" said Ben's voice from his open office
door. Soon his big frame filled the doorway. "I thought I
heard Mildred say your name. Come on in."

Sam and Romano walked in to Ben Striker's office. It
was well appointed, but not lavish. It was tastefully done
as one might expect of a senior city official.

"So what are you two up to today?" asked Ben.

"Ben, do you know Romano? He is from the same city
as Miguele, in South America." asked Sam.

"No. I haven't had the pleasure. Hello Romano. Glad to
have you here in our fair city. On a holiday? I guess if
you're with Sam Henry you're 'one of them'." Ben laughed
out loud with a large guffaw.

Sam and Romano laughed with him.

"Yes Mr. Ben. I'm 'one of them'. I understand you are
quite at home with those who live by higher law. Indeed
I understand you are yourself only held back by your job,
and what you think are responsibilities." said Romano
with the love and calm he was using in front of the
Police Chief.

"Inspired insight my man. Inspired insight. I would love
to become one who lives by higher law. I find my job is
not conducive to that situation. I plan on retiring as soon
as the city can find a replacement. I have already given
them my notice." said Ben.

"Ben! You haven't? Congratulations." said Sam.

"But what brings you here today you two?" asked Ben.

"Mr. Ben, I am going to marry Miguele's daughter,
Oomano. She and I came to invite you and Mrs. Ben
to our wedding and we sure hope you will come." said
Romano.

"You're going to marry little Oomano? Well
congratulations son. If I were thirty years younger I
would do the same. She is a wonderful young lady, but
I guess you know that. Congratulations. Yes. My wife
and I will be happy to attend. Sam will bring us down,
I guess. Right Sam?" said Ben, looking at Sam.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!

"Let us then be up and doing, With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing, Learn to labor and to wait."
---- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

HA! HA! HA!

Two men waiting at the pearly gates strike up a
conversation. "How'd you die?" the first man asks
the second.

"I froze to death," says the second. "That's awful,
how does it feel to freeze to death?" says the first.

"It's very uncomfortable at first, you get the shakes,
and you get pains in all your fingers and toes. But
eventually, it's a very calm way to go. You get numb
and you kind of drift off, as if you're sleeping...How
did you die?" says the second.

"I had a heart attack", says the first guy. "You see, I
knew my wife was cheating on me, so one day I
showed up at home unexpectedly. I ran up to the
bedroom, and found her alone, knitting. I ran down
to the basement, but no one was hiding there. I ran
up to the second floor, but no one was hiding there
either. I ran as fast as I could to the attic, and just as
I got there, I had a massive heart attack and died..."

The second man shakes his head..."That's so ironic,"
he says.

"What do you mean?" asks the first man.

The guy replies, "Well, if you had only stopped to
look in the freezer, we'd both still be alive!!"
