What "Ma" was the head of an infamous criminal gang?
Ma Barker (born Arizona Donnie Clark) was head of
the ultimate dysfunctional family - a 1920's criminal gang.
Her gang, which included her sons, was responsible for
numerous kidnappings and robberies of post offices and
banks. Ma herself was never arrested, but three of her
four sons served time in Alcatraz, Leavenworth, and
Kansas State Penitentiary. Ma, along with her son
Freddie, was killed in 1935 at the age of 63 in a shootout
with FBI agents. Later, two of her other sons also met
with violent deaths--one shot himself instead of giving
himself up to police and the other was killed in an
attempt to escape from Alcatraz. Where was "Pa" Barker
in all this? Mr. George Barker never joined the gang
and Ma left him in 1927.
When did Mother's Day first come into being?
Mother's Day was first suggested by Julia Ward Howe, a
women's suffrage leader and author of "The Battle Hymn
of the Republic," in 1872. She envisioned it as a day to
celebrate peace and wanted it to be June 2. In 1907,
West Virginian Anna Jarvis began serious campaigning
for a "Mother's Day" to be held the second Sunday in
May. Woodrow Wilson approved it as a national holiday
in 1915.

HOW'S YOUR VIEW?

It is comforting to know that we choose the way we see
the world, isn't it? We choose both our view and our
response to the view. Why do I think this is comforting?
Because I have the ultimate control to change my
perceptions and reactions. And so do you! For some,
this is not comforting, it's terrifying! What would happen
if you had no one to blame your feelings on?
You've probably all heard the saying, "You'll be about
as happy as you make up your mind to be." There is
so much truth in that. I remember when I really
understood that truth. I was a young single mom with
three children and had just been awarded the custody
of the children and all the family debts. The choice was
clear. Option One: "Ain't it awful!" followed by justifiable
depression. Option Two: "He done me wrong!" followed
by justifiable anger. Option Three: "Here's a challenge!"
followed by determination to create something better
than ever. Simplistic, for sure, but it makes the point.
When you know that you choose your perception of
an event or situation, you can be empowered to choose
the response to it that fits your values.
It's usually easy to find a lot of agreement for the
negative responses in life. For example, it is not
difficult to find someone to complain to, and with, in
the coffee room at work. What if you simply stopped
doing that? Focused on the positive? Or said nothing?
What if you made an agreement with yourself that
whatever you said in future would be
solution-oriented rather than problem-oriented? What
if you stepped past the problem and into possible
solutions! This is not denying the problem. Of course,
they need to be identified. They just don't need all
that investment of time and emotion.
Identify and move to solution!
Remember to ask for help! It is a great compliment
to others to ask for their help. It shows confidence
in their ability to generate solutions with you...not
for you!
For today, notice your focus. Is it on problems or
solutions? How quickly can you reassemble your
thoughts to say something that focuses on solutions?

Stress And How It Affects Your Physical Body
A Few Ideas To Enhance Your Fitness Level.

This really happened to a friend of mine and she couldn't talk
about it for a long time, as anyone she should have been
telling, would harm the "friend". I'll call her Lori. She was
and is a beautiful gal: gifted as a child and very talented. And
now she is also very beautiful to look at, and of course very
talented. When she was in her early teens, Lori and her brother
were invited out by a family friend to have a ride in his new
car. She had to sit on the console, as this was a "two-seater".
Her brother was totally distracted by the blaring stereo.
Several times Lori felt this man's hand go up her skirt and rub
her leg. She would push his hand away and glare at him.
Eventually she was able to get away. Her brother was a little
suspicious but she didn't say much and he didn't ask. Over the
next many years leading into Lori's adult life, this family
friend continued to pursue her, in spite of all her rejections.
Eventually she was caught in a situation where she had to enlist
the help of a neighbour who ran to protect her. My point here is
that Lori had set her boundaries and had made her wishes known
very definitely. Yet persistently someone tried to override
them. She was successful, but the scars remain. And now her
stress is showing in other ways. But isn't this a very familiar
story? Isn't it sad that we have to be so watchful.
Once you consciously choose your boundaries you don't need to
announce them to everyone. But you will feel much more powerful.
In Lori's case, she was still a child when the first choices had
to be made. And all through her teens, she could have told
someone, but she also knew her family would be very harsh on
this "friend". So in protecting him, she violated her own
boundaries. But now she needs to be reminded and rewarded for
sticking up for herself at great emotional cost. She was
courageous then and she is still that same person today. It's
strange how people wake up to acknowledging this power once
someone brings it to their attention. They need to be given
personal examples and ways of expanding it, but one they get it,
they really "get it"! Once they feel consciously good about
their goals and futures, and recognize their abilities and
uniqueness, its' quite amazing to see them grow. We all have
this power, but the sad part is that we don't use it or even
know it's available as a choice. This is where recognizing your
uniqueness is brought into play. Use it and wonderful things
happen. I wish this recognition for everyone!

Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began, and
David Wylie, age 20, were selected, by a
stranger in town, to take a dangerous trip, together.
The idea was that each was to take only the clothes
on their back, and go anywhere in the world where
the stranger took them. They were to be left there
to find their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they were.
Upon their safe return there was a million dollars
waiting in their bank account for them. If one did not
make it that money would go to the survivor. If neither
made it the money would go to their families.
The story deals with their adventures along the way
and leads into the only way they could survive. That was
for Eloise to learn higher law and commit her life to
that end. Along the way she learns how to perform
many a miracle.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places. As you read on, enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

A man, who was drunk, began throwing his weight around
at the shrine, breaking things. The more the kids tried to
subdue him the more violent he became.
Riata told her Mother and left the kids in her charge and
immediately went to the orphanage.
In less than seconds she had the picture figured. She did
not materialize. Instead she spoke to Reno.
"Walk calmly, but with purpose. Face the man head on
and broadcast love with every ounce of energy that's in
you. Say the word 'Halt'. Speak with authority to him and
hold out both your hands, palms facing him. Look into his
anguished eyes. See love moving from your hands and
hitting him mid chest. I am with you." she spoke to Reno's
mind.
Reno moved forward. The man was thrashing around. He
had hurt some people, and knocked down the table. He
had fallen and put his hand in the hot food, and it burned
him. He hollered the louder and was the more angry.
The place was chaos. Everyone stood back. When Reno
appeared, all were quiet. This little girl, not much over four
feet, alone dared to face the man.
When he saw her coming, he, too, held back and became
quiet. There was something different about her. She shone,
glowed, with a light that seemed to emanate from her being.
"Halt" he heard and he stood transfixed.
She brought up her arms and the palms of her hands
faced him. Then he felt her force.
He crumpled. On his knees, crying and sobbing.
"Now Reno, go put your hands on his shoulders and begin
to pull him up. See him as whole, healthy, sober and
dressed from head to foot in new clothes." the words were
spoken to her mind.
Reno bent over, placed her hands on the man's sobbing,
quivering shoulders. She saw the man as whole, healthy
and sober. The quivering stopped. She pulled upward. As
the man rose his old clothes fell of as if they were scales.
He was fully dressed in new clothing. He was clean of
body and clean shaven.
The crowd could not believe. The ooooed and aahhhed.
They talk soon spread among them. This child had created
a miracle.
"Now Reno, tell the man that when he gets to his house
he will find his wife alive and well." were the next words
she felt.
"My - my - my wi- - - -" the man stammered.
"Go home. Your wife is alive and well. She will greet you
with open arms. She is safe." spoke Reno quietly, but with
the authority of her Maker.
Each word struck him with a force that shook him. He was
completely unable to speak. Yet, he somehow knew that
what this child was saying was true. He bent over took her
hand and kissed it. Then he turned and ran away. He
wanted to get home as quickly as possible.
Reno quietly turned and walked toward the table. She
stopped, turned and looked to the people the man had
hurt. With outstretched hands she sent a beam of love
unto all where she could feel the pain. All were made
whole.
She turned again and in the same manner made the table
whole. She made a new container of never ending hot
food, while the other one remained visible to those
standing around her. She made another container and
filled it with the never ending beverage.
Standing back she pointed her palms to the spilled food
and containers. In an instant they vanished and the
ground around was dry.
The crowd murmured. News of this traveled far and wide.
Before long it was all over the city.
Reno turned and walked inside and disappeared to the
eyes of the crowd.
"Now you can teach the others. Welcome to the world of
higher law Reno." Riata had materialized and made
herself visible. The pair hugged, a long and loving
embrace.
The kids of the orphanage all gathered around. They
were all talking at once. They all wanted to do what
Reno had done.

Our young daughter had adopted a stray cat. To my distress,
he began to use the back of our new sofa as a scratching
post. "Don't worry," my husband reassured me. "I'll have him
trained in no time."
I watched for several days as my husband patiently "trained"
our new pet. Whenever the cat scratched, my husband deposited
him outdoors to teach him a lesson.
The cat learned quickly. For the next 16 years, whenever he
wanted to go outside, he scratched the back of the sofa!!
