Okay, I give: What's a smut?
Are there any fossilized fungi?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What is the sport of gouging?
It's exactly what it sounds like! This brutal frontier
sport, imported from England and popular in the Ohio River
Valley circa 1800, involved using the thumb to gouge an
opponent's eyes out. Serious contestants would grow their
thumbnails extra long to most effectively gouge. Let's just
be thankful we humans are still evolving.
What exactly is a fungus?
According to Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, a
fungus is any of a major group of saprophytic (obtaining
food by absorbing dissolved organic material) and parasitic
spore-producing organisms usually classified as plants that
lack chlorophyll and include molds, rusts, mildews, smuts,
mushrooms, and yeasts. Sounds yucky, I know, but remember
the good things we get from fungi, like penicillin.

Your Weak Spot Is The Thing You Want The Most!
The bridge connecting Boston and Cambridge (Massachusetts)
via Massachusetts Avenue is commonly know as the Harvard
Bridge. When it was built, the state offered to name the
bridge for the Cambridge school that could present the best
claim for the honor. Harvard submitted an essay detailing
its contributions to education in America, concluding that
it deserved the honor of having a bridge leading into
Cambridge named for the institution.
MIT did a structural analysis of the bridge and found it so
full of defects that they agreed that it should be named for
Harvard.
Funny how some things done without thinking the act right
through, can come back to haunt us.
Whether we like it or not we will often act impulsively,
pushed on by the greatest yearning and need we have cultured
within us.
Undoubtedly Harvard never gave a thought about the integrity
of construction of the bridge. They only wanted their name
out front and center..
How often do we do that? How often do we pursue the thing we
want the most that we entirely disregard all else around us?
We are told to pursue our goals to the exclusion of all else
around us. Even I have given that advice. Yet it is presumed
you will not do so in any way that will place you in danger.
It is also presumed you have given considerable thought to
your objective and the worth or value of it to yourself.
For example, is pursuit of a million dollars really worth
the pain and suffering of a divorce? Or the emotional damage
one might do to children in a divorce?
The single most common theme that governs most folks lives
is money. Some have that urge completely under control and
manage it well. Others are so clearly on a mission for money
they can easily become targets for the more wise.
If you want money so bad you can taste it, you are also the
most vulnerable in that area. Others, who spot this can
easily weave a story that will capture your imagination and
cause you to act. It happens all the time.
In articles past I have mentioned dealing with Arabs. They
all wore sunglasses. The reason for that is they wished not
one shred of evidence about what they were thinking to be
communicated to the other party. The eyes can give you away
in a heartbeat. The Arabs know this and want to cover it up.
If you want sex bad, that, too can be completely obvious and
can lead to many a trap. Once more you are the most
vulnerable in that area of your life.
Have you ever witnessed what an addict will do for a drink
or a fix? Have you ever thought that as it pertains to the
thing you want the most, you behave the same way?
How many programs on the internet, appealing to your greed,
saying you will earn six figures, without doing anything,
have attracted your attention? How many have you purchased?
Do you keep looking?
It is entirely possible to pursue your goal successfully,
the more so if you "detach" yourself from it.
That's right. Detach yourself, so you are no longer attached
to your want emotionally. Once you cause that separation
from emotions, as they relate to your objective, then that
is the moment you can become clear headed and wise about it.
The unemotional, clear thinking approach causes greater
progress, less risk and wiser decision making. You are no
longer vulnerable.
In a phrase, 'The car salesman won't getcha.'
That means you won't be up sold, unless your clear thinking
permits it. Where earlier the car salesman could paint
nearly any story he wanted and you would go for it.
Detachment is the way to achieve anything you are after, be
it physical, mental or spiritual.
Think on these things and always bear in mind - - -

Why Checking Out Your Neighborhood
Could Be Healthy.
Your personal exercise program
Who says you have to have fancy exercise togs and a gym
membership? With your busy schedule, it's often difficult to
find a few hours a week to get in some consistent exercise.
But could you find twenty minutes a day anywhere you happen
to be?
Research tells us that any activity done repetitively for 21
days, will become a habit. So if you wanted to develop a
habit of exercising regularly and healthfully, you would do
well to start a walking of twenty minutes a day, everyday,
sunshine or rain or snow. There are some excellent walking
programs that start you off slowly, and work you up to run
several kilometres a day. But the ultimate goal is still
more that you can afford, time-wise.
Personally I check out my neighbourhood every day, rain,
shine, darkness or light and yes, snow. The first few times
it seemed like twenty minutes would never end: eventually it
just breezes by.
Don't take your dogs. Just you and your own company.
There are so many ways to go. One day you can go to the
left, then to the right, and so on. And clothing is
optional, but layers of clothes that you can remove and
sling around your waist are best. And don't buy fancy shoes.
Anything comfortable will do.
And if you find yourself out of town, and in a hotel take
along those walking shoes. I am sure you can find a sidewalk
just outside. No need to break the routine of this healthful
habit.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.
The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.
It will change your life. Go to

"Well, my little pixie friend, what do you think?"
"About what, Billy? About beating on you because of all
the teasing you do to me? What do you mean pixie?"
"I could have said vixen you know."
"Oh, now you're in for it." Sonora slugged him twice on
his upper arm.
Billy feigned severe pain.
The pair of them laughed.
"Will you marry me, Sonora? I know this isn't very
romantic but we've been talking all around the subject for
weeks now and I have come to a decision within my own mind.
I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I hope you
feel the same."
"Oh, Billy, of course I'll marry you. I can't live my
life without you."
Sonora stood, faced him and straddled his outstretched
legs. When she was seated she reached out and put her arms
around him. "I love you Billy Hendricks. I want to be your
wife. I want to have your children and I want to live with
you for the rest of my life."
Billy hugged her.
Even though the two were close enough to get their blood
boiling again, they did not. This was a most serious
situation, to each of them. It was a life changing decision
and they both knew it.
When Billy had proposed and Sonora accepted, it suddenly
dawned on them this was a big one. They each drifted deep
into thought and became pensive. Uttering the words were one
thing. Giving life to them meant a complete change in ones
life.
They held each other for a while.
"Where do you think we should live?" That question
flashed through Sonora's mind.
"Honey, I don't know. We can live here if you like, or
in Pinehill or we can join Eloise and Maz in South America.
I know culture shock is going to get one or both of us once
we make up our minds, but I don't want you to be
uncomfortable about it at all."
"You're sweet, you know. That's kind, but I should be
thinking the same way. I am glad my Mom and Dad now live by
higher law. It frees me up to make decisions like this one
without thinking I'm leaving them to endure their old age
without my assistance."
"I don't think they mind where you decide to live. They
can come see us anytime."
"I know, Billy. Yet if they did not live by higher law,
I would be much more inclined to want to stick fairly
close."
"Oh, I see what you mean. I want to tell you that I have
no particular reason or desire to live in Pinehill. We can
if you wish but I'm quite happy to be here or with our
friends in China or with Missy and Maz. All those places are
fine with me. How many kids do you want?"
"I'm an only child of my parents, Billy. Hemno came
along later as an orphan. We took him in and cared for him.
That is the experience I have. But I like children and I
think we should have maybe three. What do you think?"
He grabbed her and threw her onto her back, surprising
her. "I agree, I think we should have three and I think we
should start right now."
Billy was laughing, as was Sonora. "Billy Hendricks you
get off me or I'll have to get tough with you."
"Yeah, you and what army?"
They both laughed the moment away and sat up.
"If you think we could, should or will have three,
that's good. I would like that."
"Oh, Billy," Sonora leaned onto his arm, "you know I
think you're right. I think we should start right now, right
this minute. Oh, Billy, I want you."
"You can't have me woman. I'm keeping myself for the
woman of my dreams, Mrs. Billy Hendricks."
"Wow, did you hear the sound of that? Mrs. Billy
Hendricks. I like that. That means I'll be called Sonora
Hendricks. Hey, neat."
"That's only if you keep your hands off me woman!"
Billy was laughing. "Ouch! You're going to have my arm
all black and blue, woman."
They laughed together.
"You know, Billy. If you are really honest about not
living in Pinehill, then why don't we live here. We can
always travel at will, and do. We can go to Pinehill anytime
you want and stay for as long as you like."
"I know, honey. That would be fine with me. The next
question we have to ask is when and where do you want the
wedding?"
"Do you want a lot of fanfare? Or would you like a
quiet, small wedding, invite a few friends and leave it at
that?"
"Hey, whatever you want is fine with me. I just want the
day to end with you as my wife, forever and ever."
"I'll have to think on that Billy. We have a lot of
friends in higher law. We have been to all their weddings
and I think it might be nice to have them come to ours. I
know it isn't and wasn't a cost thing, that isn't what
concerns me. Yet I love all those folks and I would like to
share that day with them. What do you think?"
"I'm with you, honey. They have been important to us all
through our lives. I want to share the day, too. So, let's
make it a big affair. A lot of those folks haven't seen this
part of the world. I'll bet they would be surprised at the
migration of all those animals. Why don't we hold the
wedding when the migration is in full force?"
"That's okay. We can do that. This next one or should we
await the herds return next year?"
"How long away is the next one?"

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Handicap: Where does the word "handicap" come from?
The word comes from the usual procedure in drawing lots.
Slips of paper are placed in a hat or "cap" and each person
in turn draws one out by placing his"hand i' the cap". This
practice is still followed in drawing for position in a
horse race. Slips bearing the names of the horses are drawn
from a hat and the first horse drawn gets the position next
to the rail, the second horse gets the next position and so
on.
