TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -

What countries are part of OPEC?
Which OPEC country produces the most crude oil?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
How many Americans fought on the British side in the
American Revolution?
An estimated 50,000 Americans provided military support for
the king. Not very many actually joined the British army,
but thousands served in provincial regiments under Loyalist
officers.
What is "OPEC"?
OPEC stands for the Organization of Petroleum Exporting
Countries. Established in 1960 by a resolution adopted at
the Baghdad Conference, the intent of the organization was
to coordinate and unify petroleum policies and to stabilize
international oil prices to prevent harmful fluctuations.
OPEC accounts for 40.4 percent of total world supply of
crude oil and 77 percent of the world's proved oil reserves.

Malpractice of The Mouth
Is your mind your greatest asset? Do you suffer from
malpractice of the mouth? That is the malady that occurs
when the mouth enrages before the mind engages! You may work
with someone afflicted!
There is no room in the workplace for verbal violence. None!
It is inappropriate, unacceptable, and, definitely,
unprofessional. No allowances for verbal violence should be
made for educated and mentally competent adults in positions
of authority. NONE!
Folks who yell and curse (and some who add obscenities) are
using their words in the same way they would use their
fists. It is no more sophisticated. It is both a sign of
lack of skills and a symptom of unmanaged frustration. They
need help--help to express their feelings and their need for
control appropriately.
Should providing this help be the responsibility of the
organization? That is an important question. Employees who
are doing an excellent job in most areas are the
consideration, aren't they? They are valuable and they have
a 'people skills' gap. The good news is that people skills
can be taught. The bad news is that some folks do not want
to learn them. So, the first assessment that must be made is
the willingness of the employee to examine and improve their
skills. No number of training hours can make a person
change.
A few years ago, I was delivering a program on managing
difficult people successfully. As this is a program I often
deliver, some agencies regularly sent folks to it. One woman
appeared in the course three times in three years. At one
break, she complained to me, "I just don't know why they
keep sending me on this silly course. I know it by heart.
It's a waste of their money." Well, I knew why she was
there. She was the 'difficult person' and she just would not
internalize the information being given to her. You know, we
may all be someone else's idea of a difficult person at
times. This woman was the poster child. She was bright
enough. She was able to grasp the concepts, but, she simply
would not apply them to herself. Perhaps, she is still being
sent to that same course. and still complaining about it!
Confrontation is not a 'four letter' word. Neither should it
employ certain four letter words. To confront simply means
to meet face-to-face. A confrontation adds the dynamic of
differing opinions. It is possible to have a conversational
confrontation when folks have skills and willingness.
Verbal violence is most often a scream for attention, a
misguided demand for respect or an attempt to exert control.
All three come from fear. Certainly, you can understand
those fears, however, two things must happen to make the
workplace safe. The violator must change his or her ways,
and, the violated must express their boundaries. Verbal
violence is clearly harassment. It has no place in the
workplace. Yes, every now and then, mistakes are made,
tempers flare and apologies are accepted. That goes with the
territory of being human. It is when verbal violence is a
management style that steps must be taken. Whether you are
managing other folks or managing your personal life,
violence leads to alienation, the very thing the violator is
seeking most to avoid!
First things first. If you are the violator, stop! Step away
and reflect on your needs for attention, respect and
control. Are they healthy? Are they serving you well? Are
they appropriate in this circumstance? If not, find help. If
you are the violated, remember, anytime that you take their
bait and participate in the verbal violence loop, you are
letting them get away with it. Anytime you cower and
retreat, you are also letting them get away with it. Simply
say that you find the treatment unacceptable and that you
are willing to have the conversation when it can be done in
a respectful dialogue and move away. Yes, I know that
sounds simple and is not always easy. It's your first step.
Also tell the violator that, if change does not occur, your
next step is to inform a higher authority of the verbal
violence, the harassment. Then, do it.
Remember, you are responsible for teaching people how to
treat you...everywhere.

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
by Karin Henderson
What Shall I Drink?
One of the challenges we face is what and how much
drink and I am not speaking of any alcoholic fluids here.
We all preach water, water, water, but it, too, has its
detractions. This confusion has us throwing our hands
up and doing things we KNOW to be less than helpful,
but we really don't KNOW what to do!
So let's discuss water first. It should be clean and not
smelly or you won't drink it. However, there is much
to water that you can't see or know about. I will write
another article outlying this a bit more, but know water
has its own set of problems and what you see is NOT
necessarily what you get.
Tea is lovely if you like it, but its makeup is naturally
chemical. Be very careful of the herbals. Many of those
are the bases of drugs, so if you don't know what you
are drinking, find out. Another misconception is that
these have been around for thousands if years and
are "safe". Maybe one or two cups are, but many
people in their desire to drink something safe, will
drink a lot of this
again, maybe not such a good idea.
Dizziness, fainting, and heart palpitations are common
side affects. Do some research of your own.
The same goes for coffee.
Now we hear dark chocolate has health supporting
qualities, which makes hot chocolate very attractive
as an alternative. It's very confusing, isn't it?
Personally I drink hot water, some (black) tea, some
hot chocolate, and coffee when we make it, but mostly
I heat normal "cold" drinks. I offer these as alternative
suggestions for you to try. AND ONLY in small amounts
at a time one glass or two, but not five or ten!
Frozen or canned lemonade, grapefruit, cranberry,
tomato, clamato, grape juices
diluted are all great
warm alternatives. Become creative. If you like you'll
drink it: if you don't , you won't!

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.
The Saga Of Pinehill, The Adventure
is now in bookstores. A controversial and powerful story.
It will change your life. Go to

"No, Sir, I am not a magician or medicine man. I am only
a man like yourself. I have learned to go inside to speak
with my Maker just as you can or any man can. Once I
learned to speak to my Maker I was shown the laws of the
universe and how to use them. It is available for all men."
"Do you say you can protect the village?"
"Yes, Sir, I can protect the village. So can Sonora,
Kenyata and Mombudo. They, too, have learned the way. You
stay away from them because you think they use black magic.
They do not. They use the laws of the universe just like you
can. They are not to be feared, but loved. They are not to
be avoided but embraced. If you would see these laws and
believe in them you, too, can do the things they do. That is
why I say the well will never run out of water, no matter
how many draw from it."
"How you come from other land and know this?"
"These laws are for all men in all lands. This is how
Mr. Sam is able to help this village, using the same laws."
"But Mr. Sam is a special man."
"Mr. Sam is no more special in the eyes of his Maker
than you are to your Maker. You have, all your life, thought
of God as separate from you. God is not. God is a vital part
of your being. It is for you to go inside to speak to your
God, your Maker. There you, too, will see the laws. So long
as you think you are separate from your Maker so shall you
be." Billy's words rang with authority unto the ears of the
elders.
"Can you harm us?"
"Yes, but if I do then that harm will come back unto me
with such force it might destroy me. I can protect myself
with love. I have no need or desire to harm you and if I did
I would pay a much heavier price than you. There is no
purpose in me doing so. There is only purpose in me giving
you love."
"Then we shall appoint you the one to look after the
well. You shall be permitted to build your hut over near
Mombudo's. You shall have the headman to marry you and you
are permitted to have as many guests as you wish. They shall
be permitted to use the well and it will be your job to
ensure we will always have all the water we need."
"Thank you, Sirs. I shall be happy to be a member of
this village. I will make sure the village is always safe.
Miss Sonora will too. Thank you. May I ask the council for
something else?"
"What is it you wish?"
"Would you like all the children to learn this
knowledge, that they might live by higher law?"
"You can do this?"
"Miss Sonora has already trained Hemno. All three of us
can work with the children or any person who wishes. In that
way we can have the village people look after themselves.
That will make this village strong. I do not expect an
answer now. All I ask is that you think about it. If you
would like us to do that it would be our pleasure. I will
meet here again with you when you are ready to answer that
question."
"Mr. Billy, we shall speak of this around the village
and amongst ourselves the next three days. On the fourth sun
you shall be here at high sun. We will give you our answer.
Until then, go in peace and build your hut."
It was pretty clear from the intonation in the elder's
voice that he expected Billy would take all those four days
and maybe more to build and complete his hut. As it was, the
hut was already up and awaiting Billy, even as he rose to
leave the council.
Sonora was waiting for him outside.
"Ah Hah! Eavesdropping were you?"
"No, Billy, but I was getting anxious. Sometimes the
elders respond more from fear than from wisdom."
"They looked like they were leaning that way. Not
understanding what we do they had a notion it might be black
magic. When I explained you did it, Hemno, Kenyata and
Mombudo lived by higher law as did Mr. Sam and that all men
can live this way, they became more interested. I know not
how far it can go, but I pushed my luck and asked if you, I
and Hemno could teach the children in the village. They are
going to think on it."
"Billy, you didn't!"
"Yes, honey, I did. I thought that if we could reach the
kids then the whole village would be a part. It would give
them a common goal and would be the talk of the village for
quite some time. I thought that might be a help."
"Well, it will be interesting, that's for sure."
"I think it would be wonderful if the village agreed.
Look what Eloise and Maz have done with their village. All
the kids now live by higher law. It's terrific."
"When do they want to see you again?"
"They want to meet at high sun on the fourth sun from
today. They will take three days to talk to the village and
amongst themselves and then give me their decision."
"Well. You have guts, that's for sure. I'm glad you
asked. They will listen to an outsider more than they will
listen to their own. That's the way of it around the world.
A profit is not recognized in his own home town."
"They gave us permission to marry, and to have as many
guests as we want, and they can use the well. They appointed
me to be the keeper of the well. I am to make sure there is
always enough water there for everyone."
"My, you did make an impression, didn't you?"
"I guess so, but it is like you said an outsider is
believed more than a local. It is hard for them to think you
have learned this stuff."
On the fourth day Billy returned to the lodge at high
sun.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
In the Swim: Where do we get the expression "In the swim"?
From fishing. Anglers call a gathering of fish a "swim". The
term was eventually applied to social gatherings at which
people came together in large groups. And s, to be "in the
swim" is to be a part of such gatherings.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!
"Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it you will land
among the stars." -- Les Brown
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
A tourist visiting New York City walked into a pet shop and
was looking at the animals on display. While he was there, a
police officer walked in and said to the shopkeeper, "I'll
take a Patrol monkey, please." The shopkeeper nodded, went
over to a cage at the side of the shop, and took out a
monkey. He fit it with a collar and leash and handed it to
the officer saying, "That'll be $1,000." The officer paid
and walked out with his monkey.
Startled, the tourist went over to the shopkeeper and said,
"That was a very expensive monkey. Most of them are only a
few hundred dollars. Why did it cost so much?"
The shopkeeper answered, "Ah, that monkey is an expert in
firing small arms, can write 20 tickets a month, and is
certified in small unit tactics -- well worth the money!"
The tourist looked at the monkey in another cage. "That
one's even more expensive! $10,000! What does it do?"
"Oh, that one's a POST certified Technician Patrol monkey;
it can instruct other monkeys in basic firearms skills,
counter-terrorism training, physical training, small unit
tactics, and investigative techniques, and it can even type.
All the really useful stuff," said the shopkeeper.
The tourist looked around for a little longer and saw a
third monkey in a large cage of its own. The price tag
around its neck read $70,000. He gasped to the shopkeeper,
"That one costs more than all the others put together! What
on earth does it do?"
The shopkeeper replied, "Well, I haven't actually seen it do
anything, but it says it's a Sergeant."
