What woman has had numerous plastic surgeries in order to
intentionally look like a "Barbie" doll?

Cindy Jackson, founder of the London-based Cosmetic Surgery
Network, has spent many thousands of dollars and had more
than twenty operations to turn herself into a living doll--a
Barbie doll, to be precise. She's had liposuction, tummy
tucks, chemical peels, face-lifts, eye-lifts, breast
implants, and nose jobs. At one point, her lower lip was the
only part of her body NOT to be modified. Want to see her?

How old was Martin Luther King Jr. when he was assassinated?

The civil rights leader was just 39 when his life was cut
short. But he managed to accomplish a remarkable amount in
the time he had: winning a Nobel Peace Prize, writing
several books, completing a PhD in systematic theology, and
leading the nation in its civil rights struggle.

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!

Central Park located in New York has 125 drinking fountains.

The expression "Tying the Knot" comes from an old Roman
custom where the brides clothes were tied up all in knots and
the groom was supposed to untie the knots.

Every three seconds a baby is born somewhere in the world.

Enthusiastic Parenting

A father had three very active boys.

One summer evening, he was playing cops and robbers
in the back yard after dinner.

One of the boys "shot" his father and yelled,
"Bang! You're dead!"

He slumped to the ground and when he didn't get
up right away, a neighbor ran over to see if he had
been hurt in the fall.

When the neighbor bent over, the overworked father
opened one eye and said,

"Shhh. Don't give me away. It's the only chance I've
had to rest all day."

Over the years I have had the privilege of watching parents
raise their children in many different ways. Being a parent
myself I know, first hand, how tiring it can be.

I saw my wife get up with the kids when they were babies.
She would get up at all hours of the night. That was our
indoctrination to the idea that parenting was a 24/7 job.

Later, when the kids were a little older we would take turns
looking after their needs. We noticed that with children,
everything is immediate. Everything is really good or
really drastic in the now. Their vision and patience into
the future doesn't exist.

Then we arrived at a time where they were a little self
reliant. That was the time when we had to make
decisions to do things with them or let them go out
and get into whatever all the other kids were doing.

What with drugs about, we decided we wanted to be
with our kids, play with them, know how they were,
what they were doing. We didn't want that because
we owned them. We wanted to have fun with them at
every stage of their life.

So we played, day and night with our kids. What they
wanted to do we wanted to do. What a wonderful reward
kids are. We had a great time with our kids, but then
we were enthusiastic parents.

We got through the teens, when the kids are no longer
little boys or little girls, and neither are they adults.
When I look on parents today going through those
years, I wonder how it was that we made it successfully.
Yet I see that the more parents are involved with their
kids the better the kids do in school, in life, socially and
emotionally. Strange as it seems it appears too, that
the busier a youngster is in sports, music, clubs, the
better they do in school.

I've seen, too, the parent who does nothing. They don't
want to be bothered by a child, so they give them some
money and tell them to go to the store. As these kids
grow to be teens these are the ones who head into trouble.

Parenting is a never ending job, and 24/7 for the rest
of your life. I recommend making it fun. Parenting can
be a joy when you practice - - -

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - - by Karin Henderson

Stress And How It Affects Your Physical Body
A Few Ideas To Enhance Your Fitness Level.
PART 3 of 9

That is why I talk so much about stress and de-stressors. You
need to be aware of your body's ability to provide a negative or
positive outcome. It doesn't happen by chance. It happens
automatically. It's a learned response as opposed to your heart,
which beats automatically. Your heart beats until you die, but
the pace at which it beats can be controlled. If we realise just
how we get these negative results by our unconscious actions, we
would stop them immediately.

But you didn't even realise you were being programmed! We simply
think our stressors are this way and no one will tell us
differently. Now here is the good part...if you know you can
change the outcomes, would you do it? Of course! But you need to
be wise to the things that are helpful and those that are
harmful. It comes down to choices and they are yours. But it
takes courage to follow an unusual course of action. And being
less than 100% fit, it adds another dimension: a lack of energy
and possibly motivation to defend your independence.

Often, others feel it is their right to tell you what to do,
etc. But if it leads to undesirable health conditions such as
high blood pressure or arthritis, why would you listen to them?
As I answer health questions, I am quite aware of similarities
that underlie the actual questions. If you really knew you had a
choice to do something different, would you want to be sick? I
doubt it very much. Because I have had to learn to deal with
similar situations myself, so I thought I would share some of my
"lessons". One of the most important factors to always keep in
mind is that you are UNIQUE. There isn't another person in the
world like you. Bearing that in mind, know that not only are you
unique, but now there is also no one who has your feelings or
your exact experiences...similar: yes, identical: no. They may
be able to relate to or empathize with your results, but they
don't have all your experiences. And it's those experiences that
allow you to become who you really are. They are a very
important part of your growth as a "free" individual.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby

-----------------------DISCLAIMER

Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Wild-Card Issues

It might be well and good to speak of the effects of
global warming. Some conditions are predictable, such as
food shortages. That is a direct result of the population
growing faster than we can support - at the approximate rate
of 240,000,000 per year. Combined with enormous and
increasing reduction in food producing land it soon is easy
to see that those numbers will one day create a food
shortage.

However, what we will have to deal with are what I call
wild-card issues. Those are sudden disasters not necessarily
immediately related to global warming. For example in 2005
there was an ice shelf fall off a glacier in the Canadian
Arctic. The ice shelf was the size of Texas. There is no
telling what, if any, damage that will do if it gets loose
into the shipping lanes.

Then there will be earthquakes. If there is a serious deadly
earthquake near any financial centre we will see that impact
on our daily lives too. It will result in more food
shortages and all sorts of things. A really bad one could
knock the worlds financial markets completely out of norm.

Or there could be sudden floods where seldom there is rain,
or normally green crop growing areas turning to desert. Not
all these things can be forecast. Many of them will be
sudden and catastrophic. These things are wild-cards that
could happen at any time that will probably serve to
accelerate all global warming issues.

The rising ocean has already claimed two inhabited islands
near India. That is to say these two islands housed people
who have had to move to the mainland because the islands no
longer exist above water. While predictable, and there will
be more, this kind of thing happened rather sudden like.

So keep your eyes peeled for things that can affect you by
creating rising food prices, shortages, real estate
downturns etc.

Have a good one folks. See you tomorrow.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?

Quaker: How did the "quakers" get that name?

George Fox, the founder of the Society of Friends, in his
speeches admonished the magistrates of England and told them
they should "quake" at the word of the Lord. the term
"Quakers" comes from this phrase - and was devised by
Justice Bennet, a magistrate of Derby.

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!

"I do not think much of a man who is not wiser today
than he was yesterday." -- Abraham Lincoln

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

HA! HA! HA!

A school teacher injured his back and had to wear a plaster
cast around the upper part of his body. It fit under his
shirt and was not noticeable at all. On the first day of the
term, still with the cast under his shirt, he found himself
assigned to the toughest students in school.

Walking confidently into the rowdy classroom, he opened the
window as wide as possible and then busied himself with desk
work. When a strong breeze made his tie flap, he took the
desk stapler and stapled the tie to his chest.

He had no trouble with discipline that term.
