Has Fort Knox ever been successfully attacked?

ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
When did the US first decide to store gold at Fort Knox?
The Gold Acts of 1933 and 1934 prompted the Federal Banks to
begin collecting all gold and gold coins. Basically, the
Acts made it unlawful to own or hold gold coins, gold
bullion, or gold certificates. The Treasury now "owned" all
the gold and no one else in the country was permitted to own
any except by express permission of the Treasury. (It did
not become "legal" for individual Americans to own gold
again until 1975.) This gold collected by the Federal
government was to be the insurer of the dollar to other
nations. In late 1934, the Treasury and War Departments
realized that the US needed a well-protected place to store
the gold. They sought a location east of the Mississippi
River, away from the country's borders. Fort Knox in
Kentucky and Fort McClellan in Alabama were considered good
locations because they were both a good distance from
possible invaders and surrounded by rough terrain perfect
for military entrenchment. Fort Knox was eventually
selected, due in part to the formidable reputation of its
First Cavalry. The first shipments of gold arrived in 1937.
Besides gold, has anything else of value been stored at Fort
Knox?
Over the years, the vault has served as a temporary home to
crown jewels from European nations, three volumes of the
Gutenberg Bible, the original Declaration of Independence,
the US Constitution, and President Abraham Lincoln's
autographed Gettysburg Address. There have been many rumors
of other items stored in the vault, but Treasury officials
pretty much keep mum about what's there..

Here's To Think On! ... with Ken Darby

Listening Works!
"Oh, master...tell me of fate."
"Ah, my son...it is what has brought great nations together.
It has made the world a smaller place in which to live. It
has inspired men of worth to work endless hours. It will
some day enable men to span the universe and light years of
travel will soon become mere seconds in time."
"And that, my master, is fate?"
"Oh, FATE! I thought you said FREIGHT."
I find this joke to be too typical. I know we all have a
time getting children to listen but you would think that by
the time we are adults we would have developed good
listening skills.
Not so. Look around you and watch peoples listening skills.
You will find well over half the people you deal with in a
day have very poor listening abilities.
That is the largest single reason why we have communications
errors, troubles and problems. Even though we might have a
common language by no means can we communicate. Have a good
university education in english? Even that will not help
because communication takes two people. One can deliver the
message, but the other must pick it up and absorb it.
Too often we are trained from youth not to listen. Too many
parents simply let kids go without spending the time to
train them how to listen. What a disservice to the child.
Listening is the greater part of communication, and I can
think of no other single asset one can have for personal
protection against those who would use you wrongly.
Listening on a one to one basis is done as much with the
eyes as it is with the ears. Look directly at the person
speaking to you.
Stop thinking of anything else while speaking and listening
to someone. You are not listening to a person speaking if
you are busy coming up with a rebuttal.
Listen until a person has stopped speaking before you
commence. And when you are speaking to someone, look them in
the eye. Nothing will convince your audience of your
sincerity more than direct eye contact.
Remember too, if you are following the advice of spiritual
masters and seeking truths you will have to learn to listen
to what you are being told from the inside. Nowhere will you
find more power and peace than developing this ability.
Listening Works!

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - - by Karin Henderson
Stress And How It Affects Your Physical Body
A Few Ideas To Enhance Your Fitness Level.
PART 8 of 9
Let me give you another example that is a twist to "cause and
effect" and decision-making or choices. A few days ago, I
listened to a talk show. A caller asked how he could prevent his
two daughters from becoming the "door mat' his wife was. He
didn't want that future for them. He told us that he and his
wife had made a decision to share all the household tasks. Both
worked and she felt overwhelmed with the load of
responsibilities she had for the family and her job. I applauded
silently as this husband shared this beautiful scenario of how
they would share this workload. But here is the twist...he then
added that if he felt he didn't want to do continue this longer
than the three-month trial, he would stop! Cause and effect! I
wonder if his wife had some negotiating power AND boundaries.
Some decisions are made silently without any thought for who
else can be affected. Hopefully this one would be negotiated.
The more additional experiences you have, the more they shape
your personal choices. It's those experiences that help you to
grow and upgrade. As you grow, your horizon broadens. And your
confidence grows. And your body learns that life isn't scary or
to be feared. Isn't it a whole lot better to realise that the
goal posts are always changing and so are you...with positive
anticipation than to accept fear and defeat? Acknowledge that
the long-term effects of this kind of conflict cause
hypertension and other health problems. So when you start to
build in some powerful de-stressors or protectors, it's worth
going through some of the short-term stress. Welcome your
experiences, but be discerning in what you commit to. If you
really want to do it, have your rules (boundaries) ready and use
them. Understand that every action has a built-in cause and
effect. And know that whatever decisions you make, are
"sanctioned" by you: not someone else. Welcome each "growth
opportunity": it will build up your confidence. Learn to let the
negatives roll off your back like the ducks do with water. At
some point you will suddenly like and welcome any tasks because
you know you can do anything!.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby
-----------------------DISCLAIMER
Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Increase In Strength And Numbers?
Today I worked out of the house for the entire day. I
returned home around 7:00 in the evening curious about what
the news held forth today.
Much was the same old same old so I felt anything more I
might say would appear like regurgitating rather than
contributing a genuine opinion.
So I decided I wanted to try something on you. For over two
years now I have been watching earthquake activity around
the world. I don’t suppose there is anything unusual or
wrong with that, but I wanted to tell you about one or two
of my observations. These won’t hit the news at all because,
for now, they don’t bring in enough readers.
When I first began watching on a daily basis I noticed that
the average strength per earthquake was around 4.0 to 4.6 on
the Richter Scale. That didn’t mean much to me but I watched
anyway.
As the last two years have passed I have noticed that the
average now appears to be 5.0 to 5.5 with a few 6’s thrown
in. Additionally I have noticed there are more earthquakes
on any day now than there was two years ago.
I don’t know exactly what Mother Earth is up to, neither do
I know if this indicates the trend will continue. I wanted
you to be aware of it. I am suspicious this will increase
even more as the days go by.
No, I am not saying this has anything to do with global
warming any more than the huge, accelerating increase in
population has anything to do with global warming. However,
both these issues will affect our future and you should be
thinking about them.
Have a good one!

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Quaker: How did the "quakers" get that name?
George Fox, the founder of the Society of Friends, in his
speeches admonished the magistrates of England and told them
they should "quake" at the word of the Lord. the term
"Quakers" comes from this phrase - and was devised by
Justice Bennet, a magistrate of Derby.

HA! HA! HA!
Dress Code.....
Employed by the human-development center of a corporation in
the Midwest, my friend trains employees in proper dress
codes and etiquette.
One day as she was stepping onto the elevator, a man
casually dressed in jeans and a golf shirt got on with her.
Thinking of her responsibilities, she scolded, "Dressed a
little casually today, aren't we?"
The man replied, "That's one benefit of owning the company."
