What cartoon character drives the "Mach 5"?

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
What exactly is "Mach 1"?
A Mach Number is the ratio of the velocity of an object
(such as an aircraft) to the speed of sound in the medium
(air) in which the object is traveling. A plane traveling at
less than Mach 1 is traveling at subsonic speeds; at about
Mach 1, transonic, or approximately the speed of sound; and
greater than Mach 1, supersonic speeds. Contrary to popular
conception, though, the "speed of sound" is no absolute,
specific number. Sound moves at different speeds according
to the medium through which it is traveling. Conditions in
the air (altitude, temperature, and atmospheric pressure)
help to determine the speed of sound. At sea level, for
instance, the speed of sound is approximately 760 mph. At
36,000 feet, the altitude at which most supersonic planes
fly, it's only 660 mph. Fifty years ago, before the
development of planes able to withstand supersonic speeds,
pilots understood that there was a "wall of air" at the
speed of sound. As a plane neared this critical point, shock
waves would buffet its wings and tail, causing the pilot to
lose control, a condition then called "compressibility."
Often, the airplane would shatter into pieces.
Who was the first person to break the sound barrier?
If you look in the record books, they'll tell you it was
Chuck Yeager, a US test pilot. However, Germany is now
challenging America's claim as the first country to break
the sound barrier. The Times of London quotes veteran German
pilots insisting they achieved Mach 1 in April 1945 -- more
than two years before Chuck Yeager. Hans Guido Mutke, 79, is
credited as the first German pilot to break the sound
barrier, doing so during a dogfight while flying a new
jet-powered Messerschmidt, the Me262A. Pilots' handbooks
dated January 1946 in the military archives at Dayton, Ohio,
give a detailed picture of the capabilities of captured
Me262s tested by U.S. and British airmen and support the
German claims, making clear that they touched Mach 1 in
tests.

Just Be Thankful!
A foursome of senior golfers hit the course with waning
enthusiasm for the sport.
"These hills are getting steeper as the years go by," one
complained.
"These fairways seem to be getting longer too," wheezed
a second.
"And somehow, the sand traps seem to be bigger than I
remember 'em too," said the third.
Hearing just about enough from his buddies, the oldest,
and the wisest of the foursome at 87-years-old, piped up
and said, "Oh my friends, just be thankful we're still on
THIS side of the grass!"
Isn't that a truth? I love this joke for it reminds be to be
thankful. Being so has been one of the strongest motivations
in my life. I find that when I am thankful for whatever
happens to me it enlightens me to see the lesson things contain.
I find that when I am involved in something I don't like I
try always to be thankful. I get myself calm and go inside.
There I express my gratitude to my Maker for the condition
and often I find solutions, answers, and always lessons.
I believe nothing happens by coincidence, that instead we
broadcast to the universe what we want and the lessons
come along to prepare us to receive our request. Sometimes
those lessons are unsavory. Sometimes they hurt. Sometimes
they are so abundant we cannot handle it right. Always there
is a lesson for which we should be thankful.
Being thankful helps calm us down. It helps us have a real
look at the real circumstances. It helps us set aside our
emotion that we might see.
Being thankful is a close cousin to being forgiving. Both
cleanse the soul of burdens one carries around. One must
learn that to forgive does not mean we must again become
involved with another. It does mean we harbor no malice
toward another. There is no room in your heart for anger
and joy. You get one or the other. You are in control so it
is your call.
So, if you would prosper, if you would learn what life
has to offer...
Just Be Thankful!

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - by Karin Henderson
Anatomy And Physiology (A&P)
The Make Up Of Your Body And
How It Functions
PART 4 of 9
Your body's very basic unit is the cell and every cell has a
purpose or a function. The definition of a cell is "the
fundamental unit of all living tissue". For our purpose of
general explanation, each cell has a nucleus (the leader)
cytoplasm, in which the nucleus lives and a cell wall. There are
many other types of cells, but this one definition works for us.
So every part of your body is a cell. Nothing that is in you is
NOT a cell of some type. And these cells perform different
activities. Similar cells arrange themselves in groups and are
then called tissue. And tissue is described as a collection of
similar cells acting together to perform a particular function.
Nerve cells carry messages to the brain. Connective tissue holds
different parts together. Muscle tissue creates all sorts of
padding, and epithelial tissue holds your body in a nice shape
via your skin. Of course, there are many more combinations.
One kidney cell is pretty ineffective, but millions of them can
keep you alive. Same for brain cells. All this similar tissue
together is now called an organ (a very important member of
society is an organ donor. The generosity of such a gift will
change the course of another's life.) And in grouping these
organs together, you now have systems. In essence, you are one
tiny cell many times multiplied into ten systems.
We won't get too technical but just know that each of us has
these cells and that's the anatomy of the body.the make up of
the structures. An analogy is that we are all people of
different colours and races, but underneath we are all the same.
Same structures. Same organs. Same tissue. Same systems. Same
brain cells. But we seek out relationships that make us
comfortable: where we feel accepted. The same happens with the
organs and their tissue. All organs that deal with feeding or
elimination of waste production are grouped into the
Gastrointestinal or Digestive system. Anything to do with the
blood or the heart is combined and called the Cardiovascular
system. The eight other systems are Urinary, Respiratory,
Muscular, Skeletal, (often linked together as Musculoskeletal)
Endocrine, Integumentary, Nervous, and Reproductive. So from a
single cell, we have now established a living person.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby
-----------------------DISCLAIMER
Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Drug Companies Hand In The Cookie Jar
And Little Hitler Getting What He Asks For!
Lots in the world of medicine today. I guess the drugs the
medical community have been told to prescribe as an
anti-depressant are now proving to weaken bones to a point
where it puts the elderly at risk. Oh well, that’s okay. The
drug companies need the money more than the public need good
solid bones. The drug companies have likely known about this
for some time anyway. I see no reason, with their present
goals and objectives, why they should care about people.
Surely people to the drug companies are singularly a means
to more profit. They have no morals whatsoever.
In another medical story we see that XDR TB is getting too
strong a foothold in Africa. This form of TB not only kills
but is entirely resistant to antibiotics. It poses a world
wide health risk. Africa is being asked to isolate all such
cases because each case places everyone around them at risk.
And finally. I wonder how many people remember how Hitler
came to power in the 1930’s? Take a look at what Chavez is
doing in Venezuela. The same story, procedure, plan and
process. Soon he will be given dictatorial power and will be
on the march. Of course, he, too, will have to develop
nuclear weapons. Life just wouldn’t be worth living if he
didn’t have them. History does repeat itself and those who
fail to see and learn get what they ask for.
Have a great one folks!

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Lackadaisical: Why do we say a lazy, dawdling person is
"lackadaisical"?
It's a bit of keen phychological observation. The term comes
from the exclamation, "lackaday," which means "shame on you,
day" - just as though the "day" were a person. And since
most persons who cry "lackaday" and blame the quick passage
of time are looking for an excuse for their own lack of
energy, they are lackadaisical".

THINK ABOUT THIS TODAY!
"You need to feel love inside yourself before you can
offer it to anyone else." -- Denis Waitley

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
HA! HA! HA!
After just a few years of marriage, filled with constant
arguments, a young man and his wife decided the only way to
save their marriage was to try counseling. They had been at
each other's throats for some time and felt that this was
their last straw.
When they arrived at the counselor's office, the counselor
jumped right in and opened the floor for discussion.
"What seems to be the problem?" The wife began talking 90
miles an hour describing all the wrongs within their
marriage.
After 15 minutes of listening to the wife, the counselor
went over to her, picked her up by her shoulders, kissed her
passionately for several minutes, and sat her back down.
Afterwards, the wife sat there speechless.
He looked over at the husband who was staring in disbelief
at what had happened. The counselor spoke to the husband,
"Your wife NEEDS that at least twice a week!"
The husband scratched his head and replied... "I can have
her here on Tuesdays and Thursdays."
