What do the letters in "EPCOT" stand for?
Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow. Walt Disney
envisioned EPCOT as an enclosed and regulated community
where people would live and work. The idea was to enclose
the whole community within a dome so it could be entirely
controlled and all the bad things in society, like crime and
grime, could be kept out. Instead, EPCOT became a popular
exhibit combining technology with international cultures.
How did Disney animation artists poke fun at a rival theme
park in the film "Beauty and the Beast"?
In the 1991 film "Beauty and the Beast," Belle's father
encounters a fork in the road, with one road sign indicating
the path leads to "Anaheim," while the darker, more sinister
looking path is supposed to lead to "Valencia." Anaheim, of
course, is the site of Disneyland, while Valencia is the
home of the rival Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park.

Do You See Straight?
A man named Mr. Smith was flying from San Francisco
to LA. Unexpectedly, the plane stopped in Sacramento
along the way. The flight attendant explained that
there would be a delay, and if the passengers wanted
to get off the aircraft, the plane would re-board in
30 minutes.
Everybody got off the plane except one gentleman who
was blind. Mr. Smith had noticed him as he walked by
and could tell the blind man had flown before because
his Seeing Eye dog lay quietly underneath the seats in
front of him throughout the entire flight. Mr. Smith
could also tell he had flown this very flight before
because the pilot approached him, and calling him by
name, said "Keith, we're in Sacramento for almost an
hour. Would you like to get off and stretch your legs?"
Keith replied, "No thanks, but maybe the dog would
like to stretch his legs."
Picture this: All the people in the gate area came
to a complete quiet standstill when they looked up and
saw the pilot walk off the plane with the Seeing Eye
dog! The pilot was even wearing sunglasses.
People scattered. They not only tried to change
planes, they were trying to change airlines!
Can you imagine being in that waiting area when that
pilot came up the gangway? Wow! what a sight that
would be.
You know what happens when one is in a condition like
that? Panic begins to set in. You might not think much of
it at first, but someone will panic, without reason, then
someone else thinks it "might be wise to play it safe", and
then someone else takes the same action and before you
know it there is an "electricity" that fills the air. That
"electricity" is panic. It affects everyone and spreads
through the crowd like fire. The next thing you know each
person is experiencing fear, all because a pilot was kind
enough to take a dog for a walk.
What happens is people don't do their own thinking.
Someone responds to what they think they see, and
without thinking it through, or without being reasonable
they react to what they "think they saw". Their actions
affect those close to them and the first thing you know you
have a panic on your hands.
Completely unreasonable and no thought given to the matter
at all, but then panic is never reasonable. It can kill,
however. And it can cause any individual to respond in ways
their own clear thinking would ordinarily not permit.
Now, this is a public situation of "not seeing straight".
How about the private ones where only you interpret
circumstances? They can be just as harmful to you. How
many times, for example, do you see a condition as failure
when, with one more step, you can walk into the brilliant
sunshine of success? How many times do you experience
fear when, in truth, there is nothing to fear? How many
times do you fail in a single act because you are suddenly
faced with something you have never been faced with before
and you are afraid to make a decision?
All these are examples of "not seeing straight". They are
places where, in the calm of your mind you can see the
truth of a situation, but in the "consciousness" of your
mind you respond in ways you wish you wouldn't. These
reactions can cost you money, time, love, relationships
and success. Think on these things.
Do You See Straight?

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - - by Karin Henderson
Anatomy And Physiology (A&P)
The Make Up Of Your Body And
How It Functions
PART 6 of 9
Let's review the definition of anatomy and physiology
and then use the heart as an example.
ANATOMY is the study, classification, and description of
structures and organs of the body. I think that's pretty well
explained.cell to tissue to organ to system to body.
PHYSIOLOGY is the study and process of the function
of the human. It is the study of the physical and
chemical processes involved in the functioning of the
living organisms and their component parts.
We know that the heart is a huge muscle, as is your
biceps muscle in your upper arm. Same tissue, but
their FUNCTIONS are VERY different! Let's suppose
you are to cut out 3/4 of your biceps muscle because
it was diseased and becoming necrotic (dying tissue).
You would have a big hollow in your arm, but life
would continue. Do the same 3/4 "reduction" in your
heart (organ) and life COULD not continue! So
function of any cell and its larger part, is vitally
important. And of course each organ has its own
specific, specialized and non-duplicable function.
Obviously with ten different systems working
simultaneously in your body, there is a lot of activity.
And most of it done without any knowledge or help
on your part. Your heart beats. Your lungs expand
and contract automatically. They exchange blood
with oxygen for blood without oxygen. Your kidneys
are constantly filtering. Your digestive tract is
handling input and output of nutrients. Your skin is
protecting you and holding you together. Your bones
are holding you upright and your brain is
computing millions of messages. You are a living
miracle! And this list isn't anywhere near complete!
Nothing so far has been said about maintaining
this perfect "machine". It does require maintenance.
Nothing runs forever. Systems break down by lack
of one or more deficits. The basic cell can be
impaired by a number of factors. In a very
simplistic way, any food that the cell can't use or
is harmful hinders its health maintenance. All
systems are required to work in harmony and
efficiency. It is called dis-ease. Your body has
supplied the cells, and the systems and the
functions. It's up to you to supply the
maintenance factors.

PERCEPTIONS . . . by Ken Darby
-----------------------DISCLAIMER
Some around me think I am an opinionated old goat.
Whether that be true or not I will sometimes, in this column,
talk about things people don't like to talk about - or don't want
out in the open. Take it all with a grain of salt.
Do your own thinking, and don't accept the things I say as
gospel. They are only mental meanderings from a simple soul.

Go Ahead, Shoot It For Two Minutes
Good Day folks!
I see we can put microwave ovens to a good use. Scientists
have found that putting a dishcloth or a sponge in the
microwave for two minutes will kill 99 percent of the
bacteria it contains.
That’s pretty good considering that a dishcloth is thought
to be the best place in the world for the breeding and
growth of bacteria like e coli and other deadly pathogens.
The dishcloth has been shown to be the worst bacteria source
in the house. You could literally drink toilet water and be
in less danger than eating off a plate that has been wiped
with a wet dishcloth three or four days old.
Think on this a minute. You are preparing chicken for
frying. You need to trim the chicken a little so you take
out a cutting board and do that. Soon you have the chicken
ready to fry and you put it into the pan. Now you have to
clean up the mess you made while you were getting it ready
for cooking. You take your dishcloth, perfectly clean and
safe because you just took a clean one, and you begin to
wipe up. When you have finished with the cutting board it
gets wiped and put away. Now you wipe up the counter. Soon
it is all clean and you are onto other jobs. Oh, first you
rinse out the dishcloth in the sink and lay it at your
favorite spot.
An hour later you are preparing salad and you again use the
dishcloth to clean up. And the kids spill some pop or milk
so you clean that up, all with your trusty dishcloth.
You are a very careful homemaker and you are sensitive about
what you do to keep your family healthy. Part of that is
continually rinsing the dishcloth to keep it clean. You have
never thought too much about this aspect of dishcloths so it
is not unusual for you to use the same dishcloth for three
or four days before you change it for a clean one.
Within that three or four day period your dishcloth is a
breeding ground for salmonella, e coli and other nasty
things. In spite of your phobia for cleanliness you may very
well be creating a breeding ground for the bugs you don’t
want your family to have. Solution - - - put that dishcloth
in the microwave, damp, once a day. Shoot it for two minutes
and it will no longer contain anything harmful. This does
more to stop bugs than washing the dishcloth with the
clothes, rinsing it out in the sink or any other manner of
handling the problem.
Go ahead, shoot it for two minutes.

WHY DO WE SAY IT?
Nail One's Colors To The Mast: Where does the expression
"nail one's colors to the mast" come from?
From naval warfare. In a battle at sea a ship surrenders by
striking its colors- that is, lowering its flag. If the
colors are "nailed to the mast" they cannot be lowered and
the ship cannot surrender; it must fight on no matter what
happens.

They had lived together in the backwoods for over fifty
years.
To celebrate their fiftieth anniversary, he took her to a
large city and they checked into a plush hotel.
She said to the bellman, "We refuse to settle for such a
small room. No windows, no bed, and no air conditioning."
"But, madam!", replied the bellman.
"Don't 'But madam' me," she continued. "You can't treat us
like we're a couple of fools just because we don't travel
much, and we've never been to the big city, and never spent
the night at a hotel. I'm going to complain to the
manager."
"Madam," the bellman said, "this isn't your room; this is
the elevator!"
