What is the "Sweetest Day"?
The Sweetest Day, celebrated on the third Saturday in
October, is a holiday for making others happy and
showing them that you care. It began during the
Great Depression when a man in Cleveland organized
people to provide a small gift to brighten the spirits
of the homeless, the underprivileged, shut-ins, and
orphans. Nowadays, it's common to give gifts or
perform small acts of kindness for others, too, including
friends and neighbors. The holiday is celebrated in the
United States, particularly in certain cities, including
Detroit, Cleveland, and Buffalo.
What is the Tasmanian tiger?
The Tasmanian tiger, or thylacine (also called the
Tasmanian wolf), is an extinct member of the marsupial
family. This strange dog-like animal, striped like a tiger
and having a pouch like a kangaroo, was hunted to
extinction more than a century ago. The Tasmanian
tiger had several unique features: it could open its jaw
VERY wide (more so than any mammal) and both
males AND females had pouches. The male's pouch
was to protect his testicles, while the female's
backward-facing pouch was for its young.

Cowboy Logic!

I wanted to take my kids to the movies but did not
want to wait on line to buy the tickets, so I called
ahead to the theater to buy them over the phone.
I asked, "How much is a ticket?"
They said, "Seven dollars."
I asked, "How much for children?"
They said, "Same price, Seven dollars."
I said, "The airlines charge half fare for children."
They said, "OK, put your kids on a plane to somewhere,
and you come to the movie. You'll enjoy it a lot more
that way."
Well now, that's cowboy logic if I have ever seen it.
And it makes a great deal of sense, even though one
isn't going to follow through with the suggestion.
Cowboys have a reputation for cutting right to the core
of the matter. I remember once, as a youth, I mounted a
horse from the wrong side. The owner sat there and
watched, fully expecting the horse to buck me off. He
was telling me this later and I was appalled. "Why
didn't you tell me?"
His response was that the horse would soon let me
know and that way I would learn my lesson properly.
So he just sat there and watched.
I remember another time when someone brought out
a handkerchief to blow their nose. It seems to be a
thing men do. There were a couple ladies present who
thought the event looked gross, and the said so. He
merely replied "Don't look then!" It was perfectly logical
to him. If you didn't like what you are looking at, don't
look.
It would help a lot of us if we developed some cowboy
logic. It has a tendency to brush away all the fancy, frilly,
unimportant matter and gets right to the heart of the
matter. Often we see such logic in children. There we
laugh at it because it seems strange to us a child
would have such sense. Yet we don't follow them
either.
What keeps us on the path to failing to understand of
act on cowboy logic is our own agenda. We try to
impress others so much we overlook the obvious
and really that is what cowboy logic is, the obvious.

drag-and-drop method:
Select the text you want to copy or move.
Slide the mouse over the selected text until the cursor
changes into an arrow.
Copy or move the text:
To move: Drag the text to a new location. As you drag, a
small square appears below the mouse pointer to show that
you are moving text.
To copy: Hold down the Ctrl key while you drag the text
elsewhere. A square with a cross in it appears below the
pointer.
At the place where you want to move or copy the text,
let up on the mouse button.

Body Parts: The Brain Some New Technology
For Understanding What
Actually Goes On In It

Most people take CAT scanners for granted now. The correct
terminology for a CAT scan is "Computed Axial Tomography" (CAT).
Computed means calculated. Axial comes from axis, which is the
imaginary line drawn through the center of your body. Tomography
is a technique in which sections or slices of the body are
investigated, using a special colour (dye) that shows up on
films or computer images. Certain areas are highlighted or show
up more readily. A computer in the machine analyzes the
information. These pictures can be stored, viewed with a
monitor, or printed on film. The purpose of the test is to
evaluate the circulatory system and also allows for further
evaluation of masses and tumors. It is often used in a trauma
setting to investigate the brain, chest, and abdominal injuries.
Another interesting use of this technique is in placing chest
tubes for blood drainage, or breast biopsies where the surgeon
wants to place the "locator" needles very specifically. But we
are talking mostly about the brain here.
The CAT scanner shows all sorts of layers, again with detail.
That can help tremendously in determining the nature of the
mass: a growth or a mass, blood clot, etc. However there are
limitations of what can be seen by a CT Scanner in the head. The
MRI is able to show precise details of soft tissue (including
some deep parts of the brain). These are less visible on CT
scans. For instance, the CT scanner is not as sensitive as the
MRI is in detecting inflammation of the "meninges", as in
meningitis. Meninges are the linings or membranes that cover the
brain. You may have noticed that there is no "A" in this set of
"CT" letters. The word "Axial" is missing. It is my
understanding that this is because the nature of the brain
doesn't lend itself to having the axis as a measurement tool. If
you look at the tissue, it all convoluted and goes many
directions. Although the two halves or hemispheres appear to be
the same, the location doesn't lend itself to the usual
measurement tools. And its functions or areas of responsibility
are very different.

In the month that had passed Mae and Susan had
witnessed many things in China. Much was just
having a first hand look at how the people lived
and worked.
Sure there were different customs, most of
which were based on needs imposed by geographical
location, climate or tradition, but the people
were still the same people. All had the same
needs, the same cares, the same worries as all
people all over the world. The only thing that
made the Chinese different than any other people
is the same thing that makes other people
different, a political system.
The majority of people in the world just want
to be left alone to take care of their own lives
and needs. They would prefer to be without any
political system. Of course they would prefer to
be without any "toughs" roaming the country trying
to take what little the people have.
It seems all men's systems are based on greed.
And when one gets ahead it seems there are those
he or she "owes". And the system then becomes
corrupt.
No system of mankind is free of this. All
function on greed and avarice, no matter what is
said to the contrary. So a lot of people have
trouble keeping up with the latest greed and soon
become tired and fall by the wayside. Man calls
these the poor, the downtrodden. Maybe they're
just the smart ones.
How simple it would be for man to live if they
all learned higher law. It is clearly the way to
make man's life better.
Within the month Wong had learned much. The
ladies felt, as did he, that it was time for him
to strike out on his own, which he did. They had
reached a city of about a million people. There
they found many coming to Wong, because of his
identifiable dress. It was the custom of the land.
He healed many and made the lives of so many
more peaceful and fruitful. Many were healed of
ailments they did not even know they had and were
sent away feeling better. Yet the press of human
flesh was great upon Wong. All monks endured this
to some degree, but Wong was blessed living by
higher law and as such had much more power and
influence.
They were talking one night, Wong, Mae and
Susan. "It is difficult to keep the people away.
They press in close and want to touch me."
"Form an invisible shield around you, Wong,
one that is a foot away from your body in all
directions. That will keep the crowd from pressing
so close they get in the way. Remember, too, the
law. The temptation to fall into a power trip is
easy when the people are pressing like this. It is
not your work, Wong, to stay in one place and gain
fame and recognition. You must move on."
"Miss Mae, I know. I have been thinking on
that. It seems that higher law brings with it a
set of problems all its own."
"All of life does, Wong. For every condition
there is an opposite" responded Mae.
"Wong, Mae and I have been thinking of
continuing our journey. We sense in you that you
want to move in a different direction, more the
way in which you were traveling when we met you.
Were you heading for Kowloon?"
"Miss Sue, yes. That is where I was going and
I would like to continue that. Is that all right
that we part?"
"Wong, we are never really separated. We can
communicate with each other any time we want or
need. We can be in one another's presence in an
instant. And we will all be called to help mankind
in different times and places. This is not a
parting any more than a man going to work in the
morning and returning at night" answered Mae.
"It has been so nice being with you. I have
learned much and now see men's agendas. I would
never have thought that of my masters, yet how can
it be otherwise. So long as man fails to live by
higher law, so long must he live by avarice. It
cannot be any other way. Even those who say they
are not greedy, are. It is a matter of fact. One
cannot be a little bit pregnant. One is, or not."
"Men must learn to see this Wong. That is just
the way it is. Regardless whether one pronounces
it good or bad, regardless how much one denies it
that is the fact of mankind's life" replied Susan.
"It is only because we too, were a part of
that system, Wong, that we know it. You too, now
know. Man lives on the efforts of other men. Man
lives by resisting. The more he resists the life
force the more powerful he usually becomes and
sets himself up for a mighty fall. No man, no
system, no country is exempt. All men are the same
in this regard" said Mae.
The conversation went on well into the night.
Then they slept and in the morning when Mae and
Sue awakened Wong had left.
Each said, in their minds, "So long Wong.
We'll meet soon."
Each received back into their minds, "Good bye
and thank you for so much. We will meet again."
So the ladies were once again on their own and
left to their own ways. That was fine. They
continued their journey.
