Yes. The disease, mentioned repeatedly in the Bible,
is still around. Its real name is "Hanson's disease" and
it is not as infectious as most people think. In fact, it is
one of the least contagious of all infectious diseases and
has been completely curable since the 1950s.
Thalidomide, a drug banned in the US until recently
due to its risk of causing serious birth defects, has been
approved by the FDA for the treatment of Hanson's disease.
The drug is strictly regulated to prevent pregnant women
from coming into contact with it.
How fast can a snake move?
Many people think snakes are fast, but they aren't. Most
move about three to four miles per hour. Both children and
adults can easily outrun a creature moving this slow and
snakes do not normally chase humans anyway. They're
more likely to flee. There is one fast snake, though - the
black mamba of southern Africa. This snake is said to
move as fast as 25 to 30 miles per hour.

Do You Treat the Dishes Better
Than Your Cash Flow?

Cash is the lifeblood of every business. Cash is what keeps
your business alive. It is a very precious asset that must
be treated with the care and attention it deserves.
Always remember, Cash Is King, because No Cash = No
Business.
One of the cold, hard realities of business is that if you
ever run out of cash, your business goes down the toilet.
All your hard work goes right down the drain. Your dreams
and desires for creating an exciting and profitable business
come crashing down.
Stop and ask yourself this question - What is my cash
balance right now?
If your answer is "I don't know", then you don't have your
cash flow under control. It means you are not "doing
today's work today". You are not "doing the dishes" each
day.
AN ACCURATE CASH BALANCE IS CRITICAL
In business, you have to have good numbers. And the most
important number of all is your cash balance.
Even the most intelligent and experienced person will fail
if they are making business decisions using an inaccurate or
incomplete cash balance.
Decisions that might otherwise be brilliant become deadly
when they are made based on inaccurate data. If you go to
the doctor and he makes an inaccurate diagnosis, the
treatment he prescribes for you could be harmful - even
fatal.
DOING THE DISHES EVERY DAY
The key to keeping an accurate cash balance in your
accounting system is to do today's work today. It's "doing
the dishes" every day.
The problems start when you, or the person you have in
charge of your books, violate this rule. When entering cash
receipts is put off and entering invoices is delayed.
THE "DISHES" TEST
If you've gotten in the habit of putting off the "non
essential" accounting and "data entry" work, I'd like to
suggest a little test.
STOP Doing the dishes.
Allow the dishes to stack up for a full week.
Save yourself the time and trouble of cleaning up after
meals. After you enjoy a good meal, put the dishes in the
sink or on the counter and get on to the other things you
have to do. Move on to the other important things around
the house.
Just think how much free time you will create for yourself.
Life is good, right?
Well, maybe not. After the first day or so, a couple
thoughts start to run through your head. "I'm still going
to have to do the dishes. When I do, there is going to be a
huge stack and it's going to take a long time. After a
week, they are also going to be smelly and have old and
hardened food all over them."
You would be embarrassed when friends come over and see
a dirty pile of dishes stacked up in your kitchen. Then
after a week, isn't it a much, much harder chore?
Stop and ask yourself this question - do most people do the
dishes every day because they just love doing the dishes?
Of course not. They do them each day because it's one of
those chores that is best done in bite-sized chunks.
TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR CASH FLOW
Doing the dishes every day is the practice of doing today's
work today. You do it because the alternative approach is a
really bad idea.
You need to put this same approach to work in your business.
Specifically, make sure your financial records are kept
current each day. This will ensure you have an accurate
cash balance.
Make the commitment NOW to take control of your cash
balance. You owe it to yourself and to your business.
Remember, Cash Is King, because No Cash = No Business.

RAM
Let me help. RAM means random access memory. It is
the area where data is stored temporarily while the
microprocessor works on it. Random means the data
can be stored anywhere in memory, and the microprocessor
can go directly to it. That speeds things up.
RAM is a physical piece of equipment. When you look
at a picture of a motherboard, you'll see two, three or four
ong slots near the microprocessor. The RAM goes there.
Many computers will run faster with more memory. That's why
additional RAM is a common prescription for slow machines. If a
large program can be stored in RAM, the microprocessor can
manipulate it much faster. If not, data must constantly be called
from the hard drive. The hard drive is much slower than RAM.
There are three main types of RAM.
- SDRAM (synchronous dynamic RAM)--The oldest, It's
the slowest of the three.
- RDRAM (Rambus DRAM)--The fastest and most expensive.
- DDR SDRAM (double data rate SDRAM)- I put in my new
machine. It's very fast, and relatively inexpensive.
It's important that you get the right amount of memory. Too little,
and the computer will be slow. Too much, and you spend money
for no benefit. So, here's my recommendation: If you have Windows
98 or ME, bring your machine up to 128 MB of memory. If you're
running Windows XP, you need 256 MB. These are minimums; I put
512 MB in my computer, which has Windows XP.
Don't know how much RAM you have? Your System information
includes RAM. In Windows 98 and ME, click Start go to
Settingsthen to Control Panel. In XP, it's Startthen go to
Control Panel. In all three systems, double click the System
icon. On the General tab, you'll find the
amount of RAM.
Adding RAM isn't too difficult. Your manual should help you pinpoint
the location. You'll have to open the computer case. Beware of
static electricity; it can kill the circuitry inside a computer. So
ground yourself by touching a metal part first. If you are adding a
64 MB module to a system that already has two 32 MB modules, it
should go in the first bank (bank 0--computers usually count from
0). Your manual should have the details.
Again, check your manual for the type of memory you need. In
addition, it will tell you the maximum amount of memory the computer
can handle. Don't exceed that. You will just waste monmey any memory.

I would really encourage you to take exceptional care of your
brain. It is huge...when laid out lengthwise! If you have ever
seen one or a lobe (part), you would see all the many, many
folds. It is still only about three pounds in weight, but that
three pounds "carries" all of you! Did you note #3? It has to do
with drinking lots of water. Water will keep the areas in and
around the neurons in good shape. A neuron is the basic nerve
cell of the nervous system. (That includes your thinking and
interpretative processes.) Water allows the electrical impulses
to move or fire much more easily around each neuron and in the
surrounding important areas. How do scientists know that?
Because they can now see all this happening with this SPECT
instrument! Do you realise now that simply drinking a glass of
water frequently can lubricate your brain and make a huge
difference in your physical health? We suspected it before: now
we know for sure.

The next thing they knew it was suppertime.
Ordinarily that would have thrown a lot of people,
but Riata, Amenti and Reno settled right in to
feed the kids, adults and even a stray goat that
had shown up.
Riata and her helpers were quite used to this.
They did it every day back home. First they
manifested the tableware and plates and then, just
as suddenly they had steaming food on the plates.
All this, of course after they had seated all the
people on mats that appeared from nowhere for them
to sit on.
This was the first experience like this for
the kids, even the adults. The kids were talking
about it all through the meal. The adults were
somewhat apprehensive about all this. Food
appearing from nowhere as if by magic was a little
scary.
Again, the love projected by Riata, Reno, Mae,
Sue and Amenti was so strong it had a magnetic
working on the audience.
Once the food was consumed, Riata had another
surprise. The plates vanished. There was no mess
to clean up.
She instructed everyone to find a place to
sleep for the night, reminding them that to sleep
under the roof would likely be the most dry in the
event of rain.
The behavior of the kids was calming down.
The rough and tumble lifestyle of a street kid
breeds a tough attitude. Yet each one desired the
love and kindness they felt from those serving
them.
The adults were sure there was going to be
some preaching. They had never before participated
in things like this where there wasn't someone
going to come out and give them a talk on religion
and getting closer to God, their way.
But the expected harangue never arrived, only
love and kindness. Those expecting more didn't
know to be disappointed or thankful. They were
left to be themselves. There was no requirement
asked of them. This was hard to take. They did not
understand these people who gave without asking
for anything back, even a thank you.
Before long it was time to settle down for the
night, but Riata had other ideas. She had prepared
a spot outside the roofed area, for a fire. She
had built the fire and now asked everyone to come
join her. She lit the wood, and before long all
present came and sat around the fire.
Riata knew they would all develop bonds of
friendship with each other around this fire and
she intended to hold one every night she could.
Darkness fell and the fire danced. The fire
and the camaraderie was having its desired affect.
Many of the street kids already knew one another
but this sure helped everyone get acquainted
whether they knew one another or not. Even the
adults fit in with the system and began to take on
feelings of family.
Much would be accomplished here, not unlike
the orphanage in Matto Grosso.
Late into the night Riata let the fire die
down and all went to bed. Tiredness grabbed them
all and sleep was fast in coming.
Riata had been right. It did rain that night
and the roof held them from the wet.
And, as you might expect, the shield of
protection kept them all safe. There was no actual
intrusion during the night but somehow each
occupant of the area felt safer and more at home
than they had ever felt in their lives.
When they all rose, Riata, Reno and Amenti
prepared a meal for them all in the same manner
supper had been given to them the night before.
Again, there was marveling at this process,
although much less than last night. Riata knew
that one more meal and it would be completely
acceptable, for that is the way of man. It has
long been known that man, when seeing a disgusting
situation will, at first sight, be repulsed by it.
The second time he sees it he will be disgusted
but not to the same degree and by the time man
sees such a sight for the third time he accepts
it.
Mae and Susan wanted to get back to their
journey. They approached Riata to say their good
byes. "I would not be surprised if we came across
this kind of thing again. Should we call upon you
to help, when we do?"
"Certainly. And if I cannot help I know a lot
of those who now live by higher law who can." She
winked. "Enjoy your journey, you are doing good
work."
With that they hugged and bid each other good
bye. Then Mae and Sue moved over to Amenti and to
Reno to offer their good byes. Waving to the
youngsters and oldsters in the orphanage, the two
of them were off.

told of a time when he climbed into a taxi cab in Paris. Before he
could utter a word, the driver turned to him and asked, "Where can I
take you, Mr. Doyle?"
Doyle was flabbergasted. He asked the driver if he had ever seen him
before.
"No, sir," the driver responded, "I have never seen you before."
Then he explained, "This morning's paper had a story about you being
on vacation in Marseilles. This is the taxi stand where people who
return from Marseilles always come to. Your skin color tells me you
have been on vacation. The ink-spot on your right index finger
suggests to me that you are a writer. Your clothing is very English,
and not French. Adding up all those pieces of information, I deduced
that you are Sir Arthur Conan Doyle."
"This is truly amazing!" the writer exclaimed. "You are a real-life
counter-part to my fictional creation, Sherlock Holmes!"
"There is one other thing," the driver said.
