Who was "Typhoid Mary?"

Who was "Tokyo Rose?"

--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------

Is it true Columbus died a pauper in a Spanish prison?

No. He did spend some time in a Spanish prison (his
men said he was a cruel leader), but Queen Isabella saw
to his release. He died quietly, a relatively wealthy man,
at the age of 55, surrounded by friends and family.

What was Mata Hari's real name?

Margaret Gertrude Zelle, the wife of a Dutch officer,
changed her name to Mata Hari ("the eye of the dawn").
As Mata Hari, she was an exotic dancer and then, allegedly,
a spy for the Germans during World War I. She was executed
in Paris by firing squad in 1917.

STRANGE BITS AND PIECES!

In 1785, the city of Paris removed bones from cemeteries to
ease the overflow of dead bodies. They took these bones and
stacked them in tunnels now known as the Catacombs. You can
visit these tunnel attractions and work your way along long
corridors, which are stacked with skulls and bones.

iProspect Announces Patent In Response To

By Ross Fadner Staff Writer,MediaDailyNews
In direct response to Overture's official launch of its

Tuesday announced that it has filed for a patent for its
pay-per-click advertising bidding agent iSEBA (iProspect
Search Engine Bidding Agent). The company filed for
a patent on July 22, 2004, and claimed that its product is

DoubleClick Server Attack Halts Ads
By Kate Kaye Contributing Writer, MedialDailyNews
Wednesday, July 28, 2004
The Web seemed a bit less cluttered Tuesday when
Web ad serving behemoth DoubleClick's system was
down for the bulk of the East Coast work day. In a
statement made by a DoubleClick spokesperson and
relayed to the company's ad serving clients, the firm
blamed its inability to serve Web ads on a "Denial of
Service" attack from outside sources.

"The attack caused severe service disruption for
many of our ad serving customers," noted the
spokesperson, who said the problem occurred
around 10 a.m. yesterday morning. "The situation
has improved over the last few hours and we continue
to take steps to resolve the situation permanently."
In addition to the ad serving glitch, DoubleClick's
Web site was down until around 3:45 p.m. Eastern
time yesterday as well.

Online Ad Spending Poised to Surpass
Magazines, Yellow Pages
By Ross Fadner Staff Writer, MediaDailyNews
Wednesday, July 28, 2004

New Jupiter Research numbers say that the total advertising
spend online will match that of print magazines by 2007, and
then surpass it in 2008.

According to the new Jupiter Research forecast, set to be
unveiled this morning at the Jupiter Media Advertising Forum,
marketers will spend $8.4 billion on online advertising this
year, growing a massive 45 percent over the next three years
to $13.8 billion by 2007, and then $15 billion by 2008.
Magazine spending will rise at a more modest rate, from
$12.2 billion in 2004 to $13.8 billion in 2007, and finally
$14.5 billion in 2008.

Across other media, Jupiter forecasts Yellow Pages spending
to hit $17.5 billion, and radio to hit $26.5 billion by 2009.

Jupiter Research analyst Niki Scevak said online advertising
will continue its rapid growth pattern as it becomes more
performance-driven, to the benefit of publishers, advertisers,
and their clients.

Question On Sunscreens And Moisturizers:
Which Comes First?

QUESTION: I would like to know, when using both a sunscreen and
a moisturizer, which one should be applied first??? Also, I
would like to know which sunscreens are more moisturizing?
ANSWER: Thank you for this interesting question!!! The point is
you want the screen "protection" process as the last layer
between you and the sun. BUT you also don't want a lot of sun in
the first place. If you placed your sunscreen after your
make-up, it would smear the artistic design OF your make-up...so
that wouldn't be nice. That's why the beauty industry adds the
sunscreen to their products. THEY KNOW you want to protect
yourself. There is another issue here too: sun destroys and
damages the skin cells. That creates the aging process.and we
all want to stay looking fresh and youthful. so staying out of
the sun in the first place makes much more sense. If you can't
avoid the sun, get a SOLID wide brimmed hat with no possibility
of rays coming through any mesh. That might be cooling, but it
defeats the entire purpose. As far as the moisturizing is
concerned...you need to find a sunscreen WITH the "built-in"
moisturizer. They need to go hand in hand. You might do the
moisturizing, only to OPEN your cells TO the sun's UV rays,
making the cells even more vulnerable. So moisturize after you
get back inside. And don't stay out too long. But here's the
better thing to do... put your face/day moisturizer on your
face, then use a make-up with sunscreen SPF 15 at least. Many
doctors are now recommending 30 to 45 SPF. And WEAR A HAT so
your face and head doesn't get the sun directly for any length
of time. Then put the sunscreen on your body and keep out of the
sun as much as possible. Protect yourself with clothing as well.
Ironically the dark clothing will ABSORB the UV rays thus
keeping them FROM you. Light clothing will make you feel cooler,
but allows the UV rays to penetrate and reach your body. I heard
recently of people being told to get more vitamin E through
tanning salons.that this would be a good and safe way to absorb
it. This is NOT a good way to get Vitamin E. If you are looking
for tan and colour, consider all the new products on the market.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

<><><><>

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby

--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts

The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------

The night passed uneventful. It rained again
with all the accompanying elements of wind,
thunder and lightning. Yet all within the circle
remained dry and protected.

David rose first, then his family, and Mae and
Susan. The day appeared as if there was not a
cloud in the sky. It was difficult to tell, being
under this huge canopy of branches and leaves. But
they could see the sun hitting on the fields
beyond the trees and rightfully concluded it was a
warm cloudless day.

They said Good bye to their "circle" guests
and were on their way. Most people would stay put
today because no one could walk on the greasy road
the rains created. It would take another day
before anyone else moved.

Those who lived by higher law could move
because they created dry ground all around them.

Then something unique happened. They met
another who lived by higher law. He was travelling
the same way this small group was moving. He has
created a "circle" of dryness around him and was
moving at a good clip.

There was an immediate identification between
everyone. The master came over to be with them in
their "canopy".

They found the new master to be from India. He
was not as dark skinned as they expected but
otherwise spoke similar to those who lived in that
culture. His name was Balbir and he was on his way
to the southwest coastal area to meet with some
friends.

"So why are you walking?" asked Mae.
"I have some time and you never know when you
can do some good. So, because I have never been
this way I thought I would check it out as part of
my journey" answered Balbir.

"Come, let's sit down and talk. It is such a
joy to meet another master. It just does not
happen often" said Mae. With that the small group
retired to the side of the road, set up a fire and
had lunch.

It ended up this master was doing virtually
the same as Mae and Susan, walking China, only
from the opposite direction. He advised them they
were on the right route and that they had to look
out for the Himalayas come winter. He had been on
the road for two and a half years now and expected
to continue for at least six months before he
reached his destination. He advised Mae and Susan
to take their time. There was a lot to see and
appreciate.

"How far does this tunnel of trees extend?"

"Only for another five miles. You will be out
of it soon" replied Balbir.

"If you stay on this road you will have 40
miles going the direction you are" said Mae.

"Did I not see you at that flood we had here
in China some time back? I was over here working
on a certain section of the flooding river, but
there were hundreds of us. I think I remember you.
Weren't you holding up that sagging hillside while
I removed that woman and child. That's it. That
was you. I'm glad to see you again. How are you?"
David asked, excitedly.

"That was I. You were so busy getting that
woman and child I just left. I'm glad you
recognize me. That was some job. We were able to
help quite a number that day and, except for the
occasional cow, we had no deaths. That flood has
proven to be valuable for the area. The rich silts
offer much good growth."

They sat and chatted for nearly three hours.
Following a good lunch and beverage they decided
to be on their way once more. Balbir said good bye
and was on the road and walking in the direction
from which David, Mae, Susan, Pam and the kids had
come.

This group wanted to see if they could make
the end of the tunnel before night fall. It took
another two hours but they finally made it. They
had not been walking fast, for the kids sake.
Upon emerging from the tunnel of trees they
immediately notice the benefits of bright
sunshine.

The sun is funny. It is necessary to all life.
It aids in governing the mental well being of a
person and when it has been removed from you for a
while it then becomes appreciated. That is what
was happening when they were once more in full
sunshine.

They kept walking, seeing no villages. The day
had been a long one and they decided to once more
set up camp in a field at the side of the road.

"Mom, Susan, I think we will have supper with
you and then leave to get back home. We have had a
wonderful visit and we'll come see you again."

"Oh! That's too bad. We were enjoying having
you guys along with us" said Mae.

A man, whose level of drunkenness was bordering on the
absurd, stood up to leave a bar and fell flat on his face.

"Maybe all I need is some fresh air," thought the man as he
crawled outside.

He tried to stand up again, but fell face first into the mud.

"Damn it," he thought. "I'll just crawl home."

The next morning, his wife found him on the doorstep asleep.

"You went out drinking last night, didn't you?" she said.

"Uh, yes," he said sheepishly. "How did you know?"

"You left your wheelchair at the bar again."
