A New Religion?
by Ken Darby
He is lying near death on the sidewalk as a crowd gathers.
"A priest. Somebody get me a priest!" the man gasps. A
policeman checks the crowd and yells, "A PRIEST,
PLEASE!"
Out of the crowd steps a little old Jewish man of at least
80 years of
age.
Mr. Policeman," says the man, "I'm not a priest. I'm not
even a Christian. But for 50 years now I'm living behind the
Catholic church on First Avenue, and every night I'm
overhearing their services. I can recall a lot of it, and maybe
I can be of some comfort to this man."
The policeman agrees, and clears the crowd so the man
can get through to where the injured man lay. He kneels
down, leans over the prostrate man and says in a
solemn voice:
B-4. I-19. N-38. G-54. O-72
Cute huh? but oh so sad.
It is quite clear religions today are yielding to the call
for them to be a social circle. There was a time when
they steadfastly held to their interpretation of the Bible.
Today they seem to hold a service once a week and the
rest of the time they are in the gambling business.
Don't take me wrongly. I am no judge of what churches
want to do. I am only well aware the above joke is too
close to the truth.
So what am I saying? I am saying you are known for your
actions. You are known for your generosity or your greed.
You are known for what you do more than what you say.
Oh you can stand on a soap box and tell the world all you
want. But they will watch you and make their decision on
who you are by what you do. I guess that's why
Jimmy Swaggert is no longer the force he once was.
And that means you, too, will be judged by mankind by
what you do.
Think not the world is blind. Think not you can keep things
hidden. Think not you are in secret. All things somehow
get out.
So it is important that one maintains a personal integrity
from which you never sway. That way, in all situations you
will perform in a manner favorable to the world, and you.
You will gain that reputation and your children will have
something to be proud of in their father or mother.
And that brings us to you. That set of standards is your
religion. It is not to be broken nor bent. That standard is
you in all places. Maybe it is a...

MEDICAL COLUMN - - - -
Pulling Off A Scab...Not A Good Thing To Do.
Picture this.the cut or scrape on your forearm is now healed or
so it looks. The scab is dry and it's beginning to bug you. It's
in the way when you dry your arm. It's getting itchy. A corner
is lifting up. You're thinking it's time to rip that sucker off.
Not so fast!! In my years of nursing I've seen the results of
this "ripping off" and some of them were not too pretty! I'll
never forget the look on the face of a real macho guy as he
started to rip the scab off his leg. Hairy, very hairy legs.
Heavy, thick wool sock, fresh (very fresh) out of his leather
boot. He was showing me his scab and I think he noticed it as an
"incidental" obstruction or irritation. He proceeded to yank up
one corner with the intention of just pulling it all off.
Obviously the underlying skin hadn't quite healed and it started
to bleed.profusely! Man, was he surprised! And what a mess! The
blood flowed freely down his leg, into his wool sock, and onto
his fingers! There are easier ways to achieve the same end
results. If you want to get rid of a scab, you have three
choices. First you can just leave it alone till nature lets it
fall off. That would be best and I think my biker acquaintance
wished he had done that. Secondly, you can yank it off like my
biker friend did. Or thirdly, you can soak it off.
Number 2 option gives you a few better procedures, BUT I don't
recommend you do this any of these at all. If you HAVE to remove
the scab, be prepared for pain, bleeding, and possible
infection. And later on, a scar that will take a long time to
fade away. If you are just going to rip it off, have soap and
water handy. Wash your hands first. Then in fresh water, wash
the soft fragile skin underneath. Pat it dry well. Then leave it
to air-dry. Don't cover it unless you are in a dirty environment
in which case.don't remove the scab! It's nature's way of
protecting you. Chances are it will start to bleed and itch.
Keep your fingers away from it and don't scratch! Here's a
gentler, safer way to remove the scab if you really MUST get it
off. Immerse the limb in a warm clean a bath, bowl, or pail.
Soak it for quite a while. Then dry it gently with a clean soft
cloth, and let it air-dry. What if the limb if it will not fit
into a bowl, etc.? Moisten a clean face cloth in a small amount
of water and salt (1 teaspoon in one liter of water) and then
place this on the scab. Soak the scab for a long while. (You
might want to wrap the whole thing in a plastic bag so it
doesn't drip all over you.) Repeat this procedure a few times
for the next couple of days. You will notice the scab turning a
lighter colour. Two or three days of repetitive soaking will
have it fall off. There will be no bleeding. The underlying
tissue covers it, albeit very thinly. This skin will be very
fragile and pale, but it will protect you from any infections
unless you introduce bacteria to it. So keep the environment
clean. And keep your fingers away from the area, no matter how
itchy it gets! This "immature" skin will be very pale in
contrast to your regular skin tone. If you are a person of
colour or have concentrated melanin, this pink area will be
quite apparent for a while.weeks probably. For best results,
leave the scab alone. Then you won't have to worry about pain,
bleeding infection or scars.

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET
<><><><>
THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many
adventures and many places.
As you read enjoy. It continues . . . . . . .

They ate their supper and it was time for
David, Pam and the kids to leave. They all gave
Mae and Susan hugs and kisses. "Next time we visit
you won't need to put on a lightning show for us,
okay?" David laughed.
With that they were off, back home.
Mae and Susan set up their protection circle
and simply stayed by the fire well into the night,
just talking. It was kind of nice to have the
peace of being on their own again. The thing with
having a bunch of people around is there is seldom
much quiet or peace.
The present quiet and peace helped both Mae
and Susan to become more centered. Each spent time
in meditation offering thanks unto their Maker for
the life they were leading and the powers they
each held.
Susan, and for that matter, nor Mae were into
meditating before they learned higher law. They
came into the life courtesy of Jesus' gift at the
wedding. However, they immediately practiced
meditation from the day they first learned higher
law. They well knew the importance of maintaining
communication with their Maker.
The night was balmy and humid from the recent
rains. They slept well.
Rising they had a bite to eat and were on the
road again. They had been walking a good four
hours before they came to a town.
Spotting what they thought was a restaurant or
eating establishment they walked in. The place was
dark and dirty. The fine dust from the road
permeated everything. In here they didn't bother
to clean it up.
There were tables around but there was no
lighting in the place. It was almost as if they
expected no business. Mae concentrated and created
light like the sun, light that shone everywhere.
There were no shadows.
They heard a whimper. Looking around Mae saw a
child in the corner of the building. Walking over
to the child, broadcasting love she asked, "What
is the matter, my beloved?"
They child looked upon Mae's countenance. It
shone as if with a halo. "I have no parents. I eat
food scraps here, but often he chases me away. So
I sit in the corner and wait for someone to throw
me something to eat. I have not eaten in three
days. I am hungry."
"How old are you?"
"I am six" she said sticking out her chin as
with attitude.
"Come, we will eat" said Mae, taking the
child's hand.
Mae removed the light and began to walk out of
the building.
"Wait a minute you can't take that girl. She
belongs here. She has work to do" were the words
they heard coming out of the kitchen.
Mae looked at Susan and kept right on going.
They had communicated in that second. Susan would
stay behind and run interference.
Susan never had children. She did not know the
value and benefit of their love and the joy of
their growing up. Yet she had definite opinions
about the treatment a child should receive and to
have a child not fed for three days irked her to
her depths.
A man came out of the kitchen with a knife in
his hand. It was not there intentionally to hurt
the women, he just forgot to put it down. He was
now waving it as if it were a flag.
"Leave that child here!" He began running
after Mae, paying no attention to Sue. That was a
mistake.
Suddenly there was a chair in his way. He
tripped. He got up and was on his way again when a
table literally jumped at him and he was on the
floor again, this time with a table on him upside
down.
The man pushed the table aside, rose and was
again on the move. This time Susan caused a table
to come down on his head, with the table upright
on its legs. She cast a wire fence to surround the
table legs, tightly. the man could not get out.
She also caused the table legs to be firmly
attached to the floor.
"Let me out of here." The man yelled. No one
could hear him. He kept yelling. No one came.
Susan, while invisible walked slowly past the
man and to the doorway, opening it.
The man looked, thinking someone was on the
way in. He could see no one. Who or what opened
that door? He was doomed to staying where he was
for a full day and night.

Marriage Insight
I was married by a judge. I should have asked for a jury.
George Burns
--------------------------------
A couple were driving to a church to get married. On the
way, they got into a car accident and died. When they
arrive in heaven, they see St. Peter at the gate. They ask
him if he could arrange it so they could marry in heaven.
St. Peter tells them that he'll do his best to work on it for them.
Three months pass by and the couple hear nothing. They
bump into St. Peter and ask him about the marriage.
He says, "I'm still working on it."
Two years pass by and no marriage.
St. Peter again assures them that he's working on it.
Finally after twenty long years, St. Peter comes running
with a priest and tells the couple it's time for their wedding.
The couple marry and live happily for a while. But after a
few months the couple go and find St. Peter and tell him
things are not working out, and that they want to get a
divorce.
"Can you arrange it for us?" they ask.
St. Peter replies, "Are you kidding?!! It took me twenty
years to find a priest up here. How am I gonna find
you a lawyer?"
