TODAY'S TRIVIA - - -
-----------------------
What is cowpox?
What language is spoken most in the world?
--------------
ANSWERS TO YESTERDAY'S TRIVIA - - - -
--------------
Where did the word "pox" come from?
Persons infected with smallpox break out in a red rash
that eventually turns into blisters. If the blisters
are broken, they leave a "pock" mark or scar on the
skin. The person becomes covered in "pocks." See the
connection.
Is it true that if you get chickenpox as a kid, you're
immune for the rest of your life?
True. People who have had chickenpox and are cured are
immune for the rest of their lives. However, the
varicella-zoster virus (a type of herpes virus) that
causes chickenpox can be reactivated as a painful
localized rash called "Shingles." The rash consists of
painful blisters with a reddish base that follow the
path on the skin supplied by the affected nerve,
usually on one side of the body. You can't get shingles
unless you've had chickenpox first. If you've already
had chickenpox, someone else's shingles rash can't
reinfect you. But if you haven't had chickenpox before,
and you're exposed to someone with shingles, you could
develop chickenpox.

Here's To Think On ...
with Ken Darby
------------------------------------
My Old Cream Separator!
The days of youth, all youth, are grand and glorious.
We, as kids, had not yet learned to pass judgment and
we just accepted things as they were, without a
problem. Oh, for the joyful days of youth.
I was sitting around on our deck the other day with a
bunch of kids around me and we were talking about such
things.
I told them how I had to go to the farm for milk every
night, and milk came in glass bottles and wasn't
pasteurized. I told them how all the cream used to rise
to the top of the bottle and we either had to take it
off or what we did most of the time was shake the
bottle. The milk was rich and filling.
Staying with milk, I told them how I used to milk cows
and how, when done, I would take the milk to the house
and there we put it into a machine we called a cream
separator. We put the milk in and then turned the
handle. The machine separated the milk from the cream.
It would let the cream run out into a bottle we had
placed under a spout and the milk into a pail we placed
under another spout. The whole thing was a really neat
thing.
And, of course, I told them about how I was visiting a
friend on a farm one day in the winter. My friend had
to sleep in a new addition to the house and they had no
heat in it yet. When I awoke in the morning I had a
mustache made of frost on my upper lip.
Well! I think you can guess at the reaction I got. In
unison I got "Grrannndddpppaa!"
"Okay guys, if you don't want to talk about things that
happened in the past, how about talking about things in
the future?" I said.
"Yeah, that's a good idea" they said.
Next I said "Can you imagine not going to school? Your
Mom would put earphones on you at night when you went
to bed, turn on a computer that would start making
sounds in your ears that would be teaching you the
grade you had to learn? And then, when you had to write
an exam all they did was hook you up to a computer and
all you had to do was think the answers to the
questions? Wouldn't that be neat?"
"Far out, Grandpa and would we have cars that would go
where we thought they should go? said the oldest.
"Of course!" I said, "and planes and ships and busses
and trucks, everything. All you would have to do would
be to put on a headset and just by your thoughts you
would be able to direct the vehicle where you wanted it
to go. Wouldn't that be neat?"
"Grandpa, that would be awesome!" they said, "do you
think that will happen?"
"Sure I think it will happen, but it is a shame" I
said.
"But Grandpa, why? Look at all the neat stuff you could
do just by thinking" the oldest one said.
"Well, son, if people would only learn to think the
right way now they could do it. Jesus taught that all
men would be able to do what he did and if you read the
chapter in your Bible called Luke 24 you will see how
he was able to come and go, just vanish into thin air.
Then if you go to Matthew chapter 21 verses 21 & 22 you
will see how you can do it." I said.
"Also, son, the crime is that man will spend all his
time and energies creating these machines when if he
put less effort into thinking correctly about higher
law he could do all that stuff and more. Why don't you
study on it?" I asked.
What an interesting afternoon that was. For those of
you who are regular readers, you know that is what THE
SAGA OF PINEHILL is all about, deep lessons.

Anaphylaxis: A Medical Emergency
PART 6 of 11
Essentially, anaphylaxis can cause a dangerous drop in
blood pressure, and decrease blood flow in the body,
especially to the brain, heart, and lungs. Symptoms
occur within minutes to two hours after contact with
the allergy-causing substance, but in rare instances
may occur up to four hours later. Anaphylactic
reactions can be mild to life-threatening. Near the
end, I will mention another type of reaction that can
be mistaken for an anaphylactic reaction. It is called
a vasovagal reaction.
How does your body protect you? The immune system
normally responds to harmful substances such as
bacteria, viruses and toxins by producing symptoms such
as runny nose and congestion, post-nasal drip and sore
throat, and itchy ears and eyes. This is an
inflammatory effort to wash away the toxins that have
been created. An allergic reaction can produce the same
symptoms in response to substances that are generally
harmless, like dust, dander or pollen. The sensitive
immune system produces antibodies to these allergens,
which cause chemicals called histamines to be released
into the bloodstream. These often cause itching,
swelling of affected tissues, mucus production, hives,
rashes, and other symptoms. Symptoms vary in severity
from person to person, and from exposure to exposure.
What are common causes of anaphylaxis? What could
give you an anaphylactic reaction?
Many, many people are affected by foods. If you have
any allergies, get in the habit of reading all labels,
all the time. Prepare your meals from scratch. Strict
avoidance of the allergen is necessary to avoid a
severe reaction. Ask questions about ingredients and
preparation methods when eating out. The Food Allergy &
Anaphylaxis Network

THE NET'S BEST KEPT SECRET

THE SAGA OF PINEHILL
by Ken Darby
--------------------------------------
Eloise Henry, age 18 when the story began
and David Wylie, age 20, were selected by a
stranger in town to take a dangerous trip,
together. The idea was that each was to take
only the clothes on their back and go
anywhere in the world where the stranger
took them. They were to be left there to find
their own way home. They had no money,
no identification, and no idea where they
were. If they arrived back home, there
would be a million dollars waiting in each
of their bank accounts
The story deals with their adventures along
and leads to the only way they could survive.
The story leads to many friends, many adventures
and many places.

"You're right, Harriett" said Alewka. "We love
these people dearly."
"Good day, Harriett. I gather you are the
Mother of the bride. I'm Mae Wiley. I'll bet this
is a day you've been waiting for."
"Hello, Mae. I've been waiting to meet you. I
have heard so much about you it is a pleasure to
finally meet you. Where do you live now?"
"When I'm not traveling, Harriett, I live in
the same village as Sam's and Alewka's daughter,
Eloise. My son and daughter-in-law live there and
I set up home there, too. It is paradise in earth,
Harriett. You must join us one day. You will
surely love it."
"Sharon has told me about the village. She
makes it sound almost too good. I don't know that
I believed her when she spoke of it. I'm sure
learning though. These people are wonderful. I
know they don't all live there but if the village
is anything like this it must be wonderful. Are
you 'one of them', Mae?"
Mae smiled so much it led to a laugh. "Yes,
Harriett. I'm one of them. Please come join us. We
need all the help we can get."
"You've got to be kidding. Why would you need
help? You people can do anything."
"Yes, Harriett. To you it must look that way.
Yet part of the work we do is to aid mankind in
his journey back to his Maker. We need as many
people helping us do that as we can find."
"I never thought about it that way. I just
thought you lived funny. It never occurred to me
that you served mankind in any way. Sharon never
told me."
"She would have when the time was right. We
are not out to sell our way of life, Harriett. All
who come must do so out of their own free will.
Sharon would have told you when you were a little
more settled with the idea. From what I see, I
think you are already seeing the benefits of
higher law."
"I did something today I have never done
before, or at least something happened to me that
has not happened before. I wanted my camera. It
was on the front seat of the car. As I was
thinking of it, suddenly, there it was, in my
hand. I had to sit down to think about it for a
while. Then a friend of yours, Abetta?, came and
sat with me for a while. She explained what had
happened, and assured me all was well."
"Congratulations, Harriett. That's good. You
see, it's not so bad after all." Sam was goading
her.
"No, Sam, it's not so bad, but it was
disconcerting."
"Sure, but don't worry about it. There will be
lots more of that happening. You'll get used to
it."
Harriett observed there were many people here
and the ones she and Bob had invited hadn't shown
up yet. She was meaning they would show up
tomorrow, the day of the wedding, but there were
already many here.
"I think, Harriett, everyone is using this
wedding as an excuse. We don't get together that
often and when a function like this comes along
they all take advantage of it to meet with loved
ones they have not seen in a long while."
"What do you mean loved ones, Sam? They are
not all related are they?"
"Yes, Harriett, they are. Each is a brother or
sister to the other. When you live by higher law
you come to understand that each is an inseparable
part of their Maker and therefore each of us is
truly and honestly related. We are brothers and
sisters far beyond what the eyes of man are able
to comprehend, and far past the 'brotherly love'
movement. We are actually all wholly related. In
the realm of spiritual law we are all one. It is
only when man sees, that changes will occur to the
benefit of man."
"Now you're talking too deep for me, Sam
Henry."
"And maybe too deep for the occasion, Harriet.
Let's enjoy. I do hope you and Bob feel
comfortable amongst all these guests."
"Oh, Sam, it's wonderful. They are all such
nice people. I have a question, though. They don't
all dress this way at home, do they?"
Alewka broke in, "No, Harriett. When we move
from place to place we have found it easier to
deal with people when we dress the way they are
dressed. That way we don't stand out as something
that is to be watched. We blend in better. If Sam
wore his stetson in China he would be classed as
and treated as a foreigner. If he were to dress
like the locals they would think he had been there
for years and had come to understand the
conditions in which they live. It goes back to
what Emerson said 'Your actions speak so loudly
that what you say to the contrary, I cannot hear.'
Mankind has always made assumptions based on
dress, always. It is one of his downfalls and weak
spots."

HA! HA! HA!
A research team proceeded towards the apex of a natural
geologic protuberance, the purpose of their expedition
being the procurement of a sample of fluid hydride of
oxygen in a large vessel, the exact size of which was
unspecified.
One member of the team precipitously descended,
sustaining severe damage to the upper cranial portion
of his anatomical structure; subsequently the second
member of the team performed a self-rotational
translation oriented in the same direction taken by the
first team member.
In simple English what does this translate to??
Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of
water. Jack fell down and broke his crown and Jill came
tumbling after.
